Forgotten Instincts
Episode 01
"To Hell and Back"
By Darfix

"RUN!" he hears his mother, a looker of an Umbreon, yell to him while emitting a growl and standing her ground between him and their enemies. Darfix, a young Eevee, who wasn't far from entering an age where we would no longer need to depend on his mother for survival, watches fearfully as she stands with her back arched, fur standing on end, staring down an Arbok and a Raticate, who have just been called out by two men in black. "Darfix! I said RUN!" she repeats, turning to face him temporarily, "Don't worry about me..." she adds shortly after with a less than convincing voice. Darfix whimpers, too afraid to leave his motherâ"he complies, and rushes for cover in a nearby, only poking his head out a tiny bit to watch. Kisuna (Keh-sin-uh) meant the world to him! It was her, and only her, who managed to raise him.

Darfix manages to smirk a little, despite his fear, watching his mother and his father, Serko (Sir-Koh), a Mightyena, fortify themselves in front of the Arbok and Raticate. Serko then turns, facing Kisunaâ"he whispers something into her ear, to which she gasps. Darfix can clearly make out what comes out of her mouth, "You're leaving us ALONE?!" Serko only nods, licks her cheek less than affectionately, and bounds off in the opposite direction.

Darfix's ears wilt upon seeing this, "...daddy, whyâ"would you leave mommy to fight alone?" he asks, mostly to himself...

"Sssseems your mate hassss retreated, Umbreon..." taunts the Arbok, as his tongue flickers out from his mouth. "Perhaps you should just stand down, and let our trainers capture you!" the Raticate hisses at her, "That wayâ"no one gets hurt..." he adds with an evil smirk.

Kisuna shakes her head, growling at the two foes, "You won't see me surrender until you AND your trainers are no longer a threat to my son!" she retorts whilst baring her teeth. "...have it your way..." the Raticate replies with a glare. At this point, Darfix watches as one of the men raises his arm, and shouts, "Raticate, Hyper Fang attack!"

The rest seems to happen in the blink of an eye to the poor Eevee. Kisuna quickly evades the Raticate's attack, and with great ease. However, before she could recover from that defensive maneuver, the other man shouts, "Arbok, Poison Sting now!" Kisuna's jaw drops a little, as several poisonous barbs shoot out of the Arbok's mouth, heading straight for her!

"Come on mom! You can do it!" Darfix yips softly, watching from the bushes. Kisuna begins to charge right for the Arbok now, despite his attacks. While doing so, she uses Quick Attack to dart back and forth, dodging most of the poison shots. The Arbok's jaw drops now, seeing her come at him with such speed. He hardly has time to make a move, let alone think one through. She slams her shoulder into his head, knocking him down for the time being.

One of the humans clenches his fist, and yells, "Raticate, Dig now! Come at her from underground!" The Raticate quickly complies, and digs itself into the earth. Kisuna glances down at the ground quickly, knowing the Arbok wasn't a threat right now, as he tried to right himself. She pays attention to the slight movements under the pads of her paws, able to detect the estimated whereabouts of the Raticate within the ground. When she feels the movements change pitch, and becoming increasingly close, she leaps up into the airâ"just in time to see the Raticate poke its head out, teeth bared. On her way back down, she lands on the Raticate's head, and bounds off, heading for the main threatâ"the humans!

Both humans' eyes widen in fear, seeing this magnificent fighter approaching them with a vengeance. She managed to disable their Pokémon JUST long enough to leave them wide open for attack, and she was closing fast! Darfix watches with excitement, as she readies herself for the attack! He then, catches a glimpse of something being pulled out from one of the human's sides. It reflects the moonlight, shining it right at Darfix's eyes. He lifts his paw to negate some of the light, and squintsâ"just in time to hear three loud BANGS...and then silence...

Suddenly, Darfix wakes in the middle of the night, panting, and sweating rapidly! He glances from left to right frantically, noticing his surroundings weren't the sameâ"and his body, his furâ"he wasn't an Eevee, he was an Umbreon again... Finally, he sighs, and runs his forepaw through the fur on his head. His sudden awakening had woken up his companion, a young Vulpix.

She groans a little, obviously a little frustrated with this awakening. "...did you have that same dream again, Darfix?" she asks with a concerned frown. Darfix sighs again, and nods, "More like a nightmare, but...yeahâ"the same one...I'mâ"sorry I woke you, Destiny..." he says, with an apologetic look plastered on his maw, "â"it just seemed...so real..." he adds.

She half smiles, and gently places one of her forepaws over his, rubbing it softly while looking up into his eyes, "...hey, after what you did for me...I have little reason to be upset with anything you have to doâ"just, try to get back to sleep, ok?" she asks, slowly curling back up into a ball of fur, and placing her six tails over her features, a typical sleeping position for such creatures. Darfix nods with another sigh. He was surprised she didn't ask him this time what the nightmare was about. Two times now, he had refused to tell her this dark past of hisâ"he didn't want to obligate her with his troubles, added to her own. He looks down at her sleeping figure with a slight smile. She was such a sweet thing.

When they first met, she was skeptical of him, even though he had saved her from a Grimer who couldn't take no for an answer... He lets out one more sigh, thinking about that day he had saved her, as well as that night long agoâ"

Finally, he shakes his head, and lies his it down on his forepaws, curling his body up slightly form warmth. It takes him a good twenty minutes before he closes his eyes, and eventually dozes off into another uneasy sleep...
