Chapter 5 - The Great Crystal Heist
A week had passed since Wolf had said his second good bye to Lucky and Caelas, although the atmosphere had seemed much different to the first time. Wolf had felt much better seeing them again, his mood lightening to see both of them safe and happy. The result was that he felt much more relaxed that he was leaving them in good company, and that he had been able to take even a small part in the raising of his son.
There was another effect the visit had had on the weary trainer, one which he really noticed when he walked out into the restaurant of Sunburst Island's pokemon centre to find his pokemon, feeling much more energetic than he had for quite some time. He had even managed to sleep from nine the previous night until eight in the morning, getting some much needed rest. His pokemon were already having their breakfast, chatting amongst themselves about various things. Wolf placed his order before joining them, waiting patiently for his meal to arrive. Ivysaur moved to stand next to him, having already finished his breakfast and not being involved in some of the more girl only talk with the other pokemon.
"So, what's on for today?" he asked, raising himself onto his hind legs and placing the forelegs on the edge of Wolf's seat so that they were closer. Wolf shrugged, his dark green eyes free of the blood shot vessels that had plagued them for almost an entire month.
"Probably nothing." He replied. "You guys have all been training pretty hard, so you deserve a rest." Ivysaur grinned, happy at the idea of some rest and relaxation that most of the team still needed even a week after the battle against Shayne's horde. Wolf looked at each of his pokemon in pride before he finally registered that one was absent.
"Hey, where's Happy?" he asked, directing the question at no one in particular. Serenity heard him, turning to regard him with her bright red eyes.
"I think she went outside." She answered, looking at the door. "That was a while ago, so she'll probably be back soon." He nodded, though whatever thought he had been about to voice was cut off by a loud yelp from outside the pokemon centre. Turning to the door, Wolf watched as it slid open and Happy ran inside, jumping up onto the seat next to Wolf and huddling close to him. Wolf unconsciously placed one arm around her, holding her in a half hug. She looked quite distressed, moving as close to him as she could.
"Happy, what happened?" he asked in alarm. Happy took a while to respond, the beginnings of tears in the corners of her eyes.
"I..." she began, voice quivering. "I... I bit my tail." Wolf looked at her, his alarm fading to a concerned look.
"What did you do that for?" he asked, careful to keep from sounding like he thought she was weird. She sniffed, not looking at him.
"I was chasing it, and I caught it." She murmured, trying her hardest not to cry. She had bitten her tail quite hard, thinking to keep it in place. Wolf rubbed her flank with one hand, trying to comfort her.
"Aww, Happy." He said, holding her close. "I told you what was going to happen if you chased your tail, didn't I? But now you know, don't you?" He waited for her to nod, not releasing his hold on her. She hadn't really listened to him, and now she had learnt the hard way. "Do you want me to kiss it better?" Happy looked at him curiously, wondering if he was being nice or if he really could kiss her tail better. Jazz smirked, hopping up onto Wolf's other side.
"Wolf can kiss anything better." She intoned suggestively. "Even if it doesn't hurt." Shushing Jazz with amusement, Wolf gently moved the Umbreon's tail around until the tip hovered in front of his face, before bringing the spot he assumed she had bitten to his mouth and lightly kissing it. Happy watched him, wondering why he would kiss her tail.
"It's nice to see a trainer who cares for his pokemon." The group turned to find Joy standing there, Wolf's breakfast on a tray which she placed in front of the trainer. "Someone chasing their tail?" Wolf nodded, Joy petting Happy on the head to help her stop feeling foolish. "It wouldn't be the first time I've seen it." Joy left the group to continue their conversations, although Happy felt much better that Wolf cared for her and that she wasn't the only pokemon to chase her tail.
***
Wolf made his way down the sparsely populated main street of Sunburst Island, Eve perched on his shoulder and Happy trotting alongside him. He had asked her if she wanted to join them rather than remain in her poke ball because he wanted to try and lift her spirits after the events of that morning, and she had readily accepted. Now she was scurrying around his feet, eagerly taking in the sights of Sunburst Island's city with the benefit of the relatively empty street.
When he had left, Joy had called out to him to be careful, which had puzzled him no end. He had seen little of anything that might bring him harm, but the warning still echoed in his mind. Why would he need to be careful? He waved the thought aside, figuring that whatever came his way he could deal with it.
"Hey, what's that?" Eve asked, pointing at a store front. Wolf glanced at the sign hanging above it, seeing that it was a crystal figurine store. Wolf wandered over, the shop keeper emerging as he did so to fix up one of his bill boards. He had relatively short brown hair, growing downwards to cover most of his forehead but leaving his hazel eyes uncovered. The man wore a blue shirt and black pants as well as an apron, withdrawing a piece of chalk from a pocket on the white garment to write something on the bill board. He glanced over as they approached, taking in Wolf's appearance and his features.
"You're not from around here, are you?" he asked, his tone showing only curiosity. Wolf grinned, gripping the shop keeper's hand as he stood in a firm handshake.
"I'm from Hoenn." He replied, the shop keeper smiling back as his guess was confirmed. "My name's Wolf."
"Blake." The shop keeper offered, before motioning Wolf inside. Wolf stayed for a second, fingering the poke balls on his belt. Blake noticed the movement, smiling. "They're free to come inside, so long as none of them are too big." Satisfied, Wolf called out his pokemon, giving them all a quick lesson on being careful in a crystal figurine store before allowing them to go inside. He forestalled Squishy from going in though, the Milotic frowning at him.
"You can poke your head inside, but you'll need to stay outside." He said, Squishy nodding eagerly before she took up the position he had outlined, letting Wolf and Blake enter first. As the pokemon looked around at all the crystal carvings of pokemon, Serenity taking a few to let Squishy have a better look, Wolf and Blake made their way to the counter to talk.
"We don't get many visitors anymore." Blake said, picking up the crystal piece he had been polishing and getting back to work on it. "It's kind of strange, especially since exports are getting more expensive. I figured more people would come to Sunburst since crystal figurines are our greatest export." Wolf nodded absently, listening but not really taking in any meaning. "Enough about that anyway. What can I do for you?" Wolf blinked at the question. He hadn't really come in for any reason other than to let his pokemon see the crystal figurines.
"I wonder, would you be able to make a figurine of this?" he asked, fishing out his wallet and taking out the picture he had taken on his visit to Eyllisithek. He had had Serenity take it on his phone and printed it out upon his return, wanting to have a hard copy to always carry around. He was sitting on the ground against a tree, Lucky perched comfortably on his lap. Caelas was once again on his shoulders, the family smiling pleasantly at the camera. Blake took the photo and examined it, a smile appearing on his own face.
"That's no problem." He said, fishing out some uncut crystal and his tools. "Normally I'd ask you to leave the picture with me for a day so I can really get into the feel of the moment, but I've got it already!" He placed one hand on the back of his head and grinned. "I've never seen such emotion in such a simple picture."
"Hey! Watch it!"
Wolf and Blake turned to where Squishy had voiced the outburst, seeing two men clad in suits pushing past the Milotic and into the store. Serenity quickly stepped aside, the figurines she had been showing Squishy clasped tightly in her hands. As they approached the counter Wolf could make out more details of the smirking suits. One was almost a foot shorter than Wolf and heavy set, his coat hanging loosely off his frame as it perched on his shoulders. He wore a bowler style hat, which didn't quite conceal that he had only a small amount of light brown hair. His light blue eyes kept their focus on Blake, condescension in his stare. His partner was almost the opposite, a towering brute who didn't wear more than a shirt and a waistcoat on his torso, which Wolf assumed was to keep his arms moving freely. His blonde hair was shaven close to his scalp, and his sunglass hidden eyes were constantly roving the store and checking out each of Wolf's pokemon in turn. Disdain was on his face, believing that none of them would cause trouble for fear of damaging the stock on the shelves.
"Blake, my boss would like to know why you didn't pay in full this week." The short man said, arrogance in his voice. Despite being almost a foot and a half shorter than Blake, it was the shop keeper that looked subservient.
"Business has been bad since I had to increase my prices." He replied shakily, though his words made it clear where he thought the fault should lie. "I can't give you what I don't have." The man smirked again, before gesturing to the crystal box Blake had put on the counter. The brute grabbed it, holding it under his left arm and smiling sadistically.
"Then I guess you'll have to return this then." Shorty said, his pleasant look not fooling anyone present for one second. He was enjoying this, especially since no one could do anything about it. Out of the corner of his eye Wolf noticed his pokemon drawing closer, wanting to help out the beleaguered shop keeper.
Serenity, tell the others to back off. Wolf thought to her, hoping that the Gardevoir would hear his thoughts. She must have, the pokemon stopping in their approach reluctantly. The only exception was Happy, who moved to stand next to Wolf, still growling at the thugs. Shorty noticed this and laughed, the sound like something Wolf would liken to a weasel.
"You might wanna tell you pokemon to back off kid." He said, tapping Wolf lightly on the cheek with the backs of his fingers, causing the trainer to stiffen. "Things might get ugly real quick."
Eyes narrowing, Wolf nonetheless motioned for Happy to stop. The Umbreon stopped growling grudgingly, thought she still glared at the mobsters. Still laughing, the pair exited the shop, pushing rudely past Squishy again. Once they were gone, Wolf turned back to Blake. The shop keeper was pale and shaking, prompting Wolf to fish out his water bottle and pour some into a camping cup for the poor guy.
"So, who were those goons?" Wolf asked, Blake doing a spit take at his brazen description. Eyes wide, he grabbed at a piece of paper and a pen just under his computer screen.
"Those esteemed businessmen are a valuable part of my shops supply chain, and that's all you need to know." He replied loudly, all the while scribbling something on the paper. Wolf frowned at the display, his interest growing when Blake simply left the counter and headed for the back room. The trainer glanced at the scrap of paper, reading what had been hastily scrawled on it.
9 Dewbird Place. Half an hour.
Curious to see how deep this mess went, Wolf pocketed the scrap and left the store, returning all of his pokemon except Happy. The Umbreon followed him steadily, sparing a single glare for the direction the thugs went.
"Why didn't you listen to Serenity?" Wolf asked her. "I told her to tell you all telepathically to back off in the store." Happy tilted her head, looking up at Wolf in confusion.
"I can't hear telepathy Wolf. I'm a dark type, remember?" she replied, wondering if Wolf would still be unhappy. He simply nodded his acceptance of her explanation, setting off in search of someone who could tell them where Dewbird Place was.
***
"They're part of a criminal organisation that's started moving into the Orange Islands." Blake explained, busying himself pouring Wolf a soft drink. Wolf himself was sitting at the dining table, having waited outside the shop keeper's home until the man had arrived. He had said nothing until they were both inside and the door was closed, unwilling to talk until he was sure no one would hear. "Officer Jenny was looking into the matter, but she disappeared almost a week ago." Blake sighed as he took a seat next to Wolf, nursing his coffee and staring morosely at a framed picture on the other side of the table. Blake and Jenny were in the picture, though Jenny was wearing casual clothing instead of her customary police uniform. Blake remained silent for a second, Wolf easily guessing the feeling that weighed on his heart.
"So they've moved in and they're taking over the lifeblood of the island?" Wolf asked, trying to get Blake to focus on the matter at hand. He didn't like upsetting the shop keeper from thoughts of his girlfriend, but it was important for him to know what was going on. Blake sighed again, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Yeah." He replied, shifting his gaze to the trainer. "There was no warning or anything. One day we all woke up and found the mines under their control. Usually we just donate part of our profits to pokemon habitats and we're allowed to get some crystal, but things have changed. They deliver crystal to us, but it's almost six times what we gave to the habitats and it goes straight into their pockets." Blake's eyes turned angry, unable to comprehend what kind of people would do such a thing. Wolf drained the last of his glass, before fixing his gaze on Blake.
"Okay. Where are the mines?" he asked, the shop keeper indicating a map of the island that hung on his wall.
"The opposite side of the city." He pointed out the area, starting as Wolf rose from his chair, Happy standing up next to him. "Wait, you're not thinking of going there are you? They'll kill you on sight!" Wolf grinned, the prospect of a challenge bringing out his easy confidence.
"Someone has to." He said, exiting the house before Blake could utter another word. He simply stared after him in shock, convinced that Wolf would be the last visitor to Sunburst Island.
***
Wolf and his team followed the road directly towards the mines, the pokemon glad to be out of their poke balls for the walk. The road had been little more than dirt for a couple of kilometres now, with the buildings being left behind and leaving a nice calm field between the city and the mountains that housed the mines. Wolf couldn't see them yet, a small slope rising for another kilometre keeping the mines just beyond out of sight.
What had been most surprising was that no one seemed to be monitoring traffic between the city and the mines. Wolf had expected that someone would have tried to stop them from approaching, but the distance between them and the city had steadily increased without incident. The whole thing seemed much too easy for him, setting him on guard. Someone should have tried something before now.
As the team began to walk up the last slope, a distant sound much like an engine could be heard. Moments later the source was revealed, a sleek black helicopter rising from where Wolf guessed the mines would be. The ominous vehicle swung its nose towards the city and covered the distance between them and it in seconds before hovering before them, presenting its side to the trainer and his pokemon. The down draft from the rotor was incredible, the trainer forced to brace himself to keep from falling over. They glared up at the helicopter as the side door slid open, certain of who was inside. Sure enough, the chubby mobster and his hired muscle poked their heads out of the helicopter and grinned vindictively down at Wolf.
"Will you look at this kid?" Shorty called out mockingly, making sure that Wolf could hear him over the rotor. "Thinks he's some kind of hero like Officer Jenny!" His associate laughed heartily before reaching behind him. In his hands were four poke balls, the thug wasting no time in calling them out to surround the team. Once they materialised, Wolf was horrified to find himself staring at four of the largest Electrode he had ever seen.
"Electrodes, use explosion!" Shorty yelled, the pokemon beginning to glow in response to the order before detonating together, the blast throwing up great clouds of dust and sending tremors through the earth. The ear splitting noise even drowned out the noise of the helicopter, though the down draft cleared the dust with incredible speed, revealing a crater almost three times the width of the road. Not taking much notice of Wolf or his team, the mobsters returned their Electrode to their poke balls and returned to the mines, laughing all the while.
Wolf pushed himself to his paws, having managed to transform before the attack that would surely have killed him. Pokemon were much more resistant to such things, and Lucario's steel heritage allowed him to bear the blast with little complaint. Everywhere hurt though, and as Wolf looked around him it wasn't just physical pain that he felt. All of his pokemon had been knocked out, and many of them had sustained quite drastic injuries. Without word he transformed back so that he could return them all, before returning to his Lucario form and heading for town. He didn't care if anyone questioned the presence of a Lucario on the island, only about the well being of his close friends.

Joy finished bandaging Jazz, placing the Raichu on a spare bed in the back room of the pokemon centre. Wolf glanced around his pokemon helplessly, feeling guilty because it was his actions that had lead to them being caught in that deadly blast. He got up from his position next to Serenity, having finished bandaging her arm. He had insisted on helping in any way he could and Joy had let him, feeling that it would help ease his remorse. She knew that he couldn't have predicted what had happened, much less reacted in time to prevent it, but it didn't stop him from feeling as though it was his fault. He approached her, the nurse giving him a gentle smile.
"They will all be alright." She said, watching as Wolf breathed a sigh of relief. "They just need some rest. It's a good thing you got them here so fast." She looked at him curiously, unable to tell how he had managed the trip on foot so quickly. Joy placed her hand on his shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze before leaving to check on other patients. Wolf watched her go, before turning and sitting down next to Happy. He looked miserable, worried that one of the last things he had said to her was to question why she hadn't listened to his order relayed through Serenity.
The moon shone high in the sky, the trainer having spent the whole of the afternoon caring for his injured pokemon. The soft glow illuminated the room, Joy having said that keeping the lights off would be of more benefit at this point in time. He glanced down at the Umbreon, surprised to see the yellow bands on her fur glowing the same soft blue of the moon. Before his astonished eyes her wounds began to heal, all traces of damage disappearing in less than five seconds. Happy blinked her eyes open, bolting into an upright position and looking at her surroundings. Wolf reached out and ran his hand along her back, calming her down somewhat as she turned to regard him with bright red eyes.
"Happy, slow down." He murmured, worried that she might still be hurt. She kept her gaze on him before turning to look out the window, seeing the moon high in the sky. She smiled, turning back to Wolf.
"I'll be okay." She assured him, wagging her tail. "The moon healed me. But Wolf, what happened earlier? The last thing I remember was seeing that Electrode land in front of me." Wolf hugged her, holding her close while a single tear escaped from the corner of his eye.
"Those mobsters dropped four Electrode." He whispered, not letting go of her. "They all exploded, and I thought... I thought you all..." He couldn't finish the sentence, his throat constricting to stop him voicing what he had been dreading the whole afternoon. Happy nuzzled him, trying to comfort him while she looked around the room over his shoulder. She could see the injured forms of her friends, her face turning to a scowl as she thought of the mobsters who did this to them. She pulled back from him, looking him square in the eye.
"We have to punish those bad men!" she said, Wolf's eyes widening in alarm at her impetuosity.
"Happy, we can't go now!" he whispered back. "We can't beat them on our own!" She glared back at him, the trainer drawing back in the face of her anger.
"We can beat them Wolf." She stated, not letting up her stare for a second. "I know we can. For all the others." Seeing her determination, Wolf couldn't help but agree with her.

Less than an hour later, Wolf and Happy were on the outskirts of the mining complex watching the various trucks and mining equipment moving about in their various tasks. At the far end, near where the buildings set aside for mining staff were, a large cargo plane waited with its ramp down, the trucks emptying their payload of crystal into the hold and leaving to get more. The trucks waited in a line below an automated conveyor belt that dumped the crystal into them, stopping every few minutes while the full truck left and an empty one took its place. A small gaggle of men stood near the plane, observing the movements of the trucks. Wolf could recognise the squat figure of the mobster that had dropped the Electrode on them, his hand clenching at the sight.
Wolf moved quickly and quietly around the perimeter, Happy padding silently in his wake. As they approached the group they began to make out parts of their conversation, the mobsters talking louder to make themselves heard over the machinery.
"I don't like this." One of them said, clad in a spotless white suit with a blood red shirt and purple tie on. He wore a white hat and carried a cane that had a large diamond set into the pommel. Much like the short fat mobster he wore a coat on his shoulders, his pose and posture making it clear that he was the one in charge. "Having that kid come snooping about was bad for the operation. What made you think dropping four Electrode on him was the best way to get rid of him?! That explosion could be heard for miles around!"
"Sorry boss." Shorty was quick to apologise, his tone weedy and lacking any of the confidence it had held earlier today. "It did the job though. We won't need to worry about him again." The leader nodded, running his thumb along one side of his pencil moustache.
"I know." He replied, though his tone suggested that he thought the method they had used was excessive. "But it still happened. We need to find another base of operations to avoid any more snoops. At least we'll be able to finance it well." He chuckled nastily, watching another truck empty its load into the plane.
"The mine is almost empty, boss." Another mobster spoke up, a tall and rangy man dressed in a black suit much like his opposite number. "Another hour and there won't be anything left for these losers." Wolf hated listening to the greed in their voices, turning to Happy.
"Happy, use shadow ball." He murmured, watching as the Umbreon peeked her head out over their refuge and launched the attack at the tight group, the ball of concentrated shadow detonating in their midst and sending them flying. Once the dust cleared, the mobsters looked over to find Wolf and Happy standing in the open, glaring daggers at the criminals.
"Sorry boys, but I'm gonna have to throw a spanner in your works." Wolf said, mimicking the voice of the leader to grind their nerves. The man in white looked at Wolf in shock, unable to believe that he could be standing there alive after what his underling had reported to him.
"Four Electrode at point blank range and you still screw it up!" he yelled, rounding on the cringing fat man. Snarling, he got to his feet and drew an ostentatious poke ball from his belt. "Aggron, let's go to work!" he yelled again, throwing the poke ball. The rock and steel colossus appeared in the customary flash of white light, cracking its knuckles and baring its teeth in a threatening smile. Happy stared defiantly back, unafraid of the pokemon standing in front of her so long as Wolf stood by her side. The trained looked over Aggron, unimpressed by the ungainly pokemon.
"Happy, use faint attack!" he called out, watching as Happy made a slinking approach to her adversary, who watched her movements as though mesmerised. Her attack hit its mark easily, the behemoth staggering back a few steps under the impact but taking no noticeable damage.
"Metal claw!" the mob boss countered, Aggron's claws glowing as it tried to pummel Happy into the ground. The Umbreon dodged its attacks with little more than scorn, unimpressed even by the boulder shattering force. Its owner growled, being goaded on by the pokemon's inability to hit Happy.
"Use iron tail!" he roared, grinning savagely as Happy backed up against the hill side. Aggron's tail came slamming down, though Happy nimbly avoided the attack yet again, unperturbed by the boulders that came crashing down on the area she had been occupying. Seeing the boulders fall, the mob boss was struck with a particularly cunning idea.
"Aggron, use rock throw on him!" he ordered, pointing at Wolf. Watching as the pokemon heaved the biggest rock over its head, Wolf stood rooted to the spot as it heaved the rock through the air towards him.
"Wolf!" Happy cried out, the Umbreon snapping him out of his trance early enough to allow him to leap out of the way, the boulder crashing down on the spot he had been occupying scant feet behind him. Picking himself up, he glared murder at his smirking opponent.
"Hey!" he yelled. "Do I look like a pokemon to you?!" Snickering, the mob boss stared Wolf in the eye while his cronies laughed.
"Nah, but I think things will be much smoother with you outta the picture." He said, gesturing to Aggron as it picked up another rock. "You might wanna think more about that, kid." Wolf scrambled away again as another deadly accurate rock hit the spot where he had been. Seeing Aggron stoop for another shot, Wolf noticed Happy rushing to stop it.
"Happy, confuse ray!" he yelled, the Umbreon stopping long enough to unleash a bright spark of light straight into Aggron's eyes as it heaved another rock over its head. Aggron blinked in uncertainty, looking around for the human it was supposed to throw the rock at. The boss groaned, rounding on his pokemon.
"Will you throw that rock already!" he yelled, just as Aggron's eyes settled on the plane. Hearing the order, but forgetting what the target was, Aggron sent the boulder through the air at the plane with incredible power, the impact tearing off one of its wings and crushing part of the cockpit. The boss roared in fury, walking up and smacking the errant pokemon with his cane.
Turning, Aggron's unfocused mind registered the angry human hitting it with the cane as the enemy. Bellowing back, Aggron swung its arm and caught the mobster in the gut, sending him flying into his underlings, knocking them sprawling into a heap. The pokemon charged at them, still creating a deafening racket, though this time a red light lanced from the pile of gangsters and returned the metal colossus to its poke ball. The mob boss sat up, glaring at Wolf.
"You'll pay for that kid!" he screamed, face red and hat askew, revealing his slicked back blonde hair. Now it was Wolf's turn to mock his opponent, nodding towards where Happy stood.
"Don't you want to worry about her?" he asked innocently, before nodding curtly to the Umbreon, who launched another shadow ball at the pile of gangsters. The attack detonated on contact, throwing up a dust cloud as well as pained cries. When it settled, all of the mobsters were silent, having been knocked out by the attack. Confused shouts were coming from the trucks, the drivers having abandoned their work and run from the area, afraid that Wolf may have more pokemon with him capable of serious carnage. Wolf and Happy moved to stand over the unconscious men, the trainer turning to the pokemon.
"You did well Happy." He said, the Umbreon beaming at him for the praise. "I hate to ask, but do you think you could find me some ropes?"
***
The next day Wolf stood at the mines once more, though this time Officer Jenny and Blake were next to him as well as Happy. She had found the beaten and bruised policewoman in one of the staff rooms in her quest for rope, snapping at the ropes that held her until they came apart. Jenny, happy to be free again, wasted little time in getting Wolf's mobile phone and calling in Sunburst's police force to round up the fleeing gangsters and take their leaders into custody. Wolf had also let her call Blake, the shop keeper practically racing to the mines to see her again.
"Looks like Sunburst will be able to recover from this." Wolf observed, watching the cleanup crews recover the crystal strewn about the quarry. Though the mobsters had practically emptied the mine of its value, they had also unwittingly opened another offshoot to the mine that housed even more crystal. The early estimates showed the vein to be worth almost twice as much as the original mine had been when they began, so Sunburst's trade would be able to continue for many more years to come. Jenny and Blake turned to Wolf, both of them wearing identical expressions of bliss from their reunion.
"We have you to thank for this Wolf." She said, one arm wrapped around Blake's shoulders while he had one draped around her waist. They had been inseparable ever since they'd been reunited, something Wolf was glad to see. "You were the one who stood up to the gangsters, and you beat them yourself. That took a lot of courage."
"That's not accurate." He replied, blushing slightly at the praise. "I couldn't have done it without Happy." He picked up the Umbreon and cradled her in his arms while she licked his cheek, enjoying his praise. Blake reached over and petted Happy, wanting to show his gratitude too.
"Well, we'll definitely have something to show you after a couple of days." He said, a glint of inspiration in his eyes.

"We are gathered here today to honour two of the greatest heroes that Sunburst Island has ever seen." The governor's voice rang out over the speakers, amplified by the system so that everyone present could hear him clearly. The man himself stood on a raised platform next to a massive object under a red sheet, Wolf and his pokemon seated nearby. All except Happy were still nursing some injuries from the Electrode attack, though they had healed enough to be present with little fuss.
"Recently our fair home was invaded by a vicious criminal gang that sought to take our community's lifeblood away from us, but a gallant trainer and his faithful pokemon stood up to their greed and prevailed. It is my great honour to present to you Wolf O'kai and his pokemon team!" Applause erupted at the mention of the team, Wolf grinning awkwardly at such praise. It wasn't like he hadn't been in front of a crowd of fans before, but they had all been fans of his pokemon battling, not out to celebrate him for doing a good deed.
"Wolf and his Umbreon Happy were the ones to send those vile criminals packing, not only recovering the stolen crystal but saving our own Officer Jenny in the bargain!" More applause followed this, before the mayor turned to Wolf, a cheeky smile on his slightly flabby face.
"Now Wolf, I expect you're curious to see what's under this sheet?" he asked, not really waiting for him to respond. "It's a token of esteem from our community to you. In recognition of your bravery and your heroism, I am honoured to unveil this exquisite statue made entirely of crystal!" Pulling at the sheet, a massive crystal statue was revealed that had the crowd cheering and clapping enthusiastically. Wolf stared, unable to stop himself from laughing in a fit of egotism, at a fifteen foot tall statue of himself and Happy standing proudly in the main courtyard of the city. He couldn't believe that they would go to so much trouble just for him doing the right thing. Seeing that Wolf was in no condition to talk, Serenity walked up to the microphone, adjusting her sling to keep her injured arm comfortable.
"Wolf's feeling a little overwhelmed at this point, but I assure you that he's deeply touched by this display." She said, speaking both in her natural tongue for benefit of the pokemon and her telepathic voice so that the crowd could understand her. They cheered even louder, Wolf blushing furiously in the face of their praise. After all, he was just glad that he had been able to stop the gangsters and help people in need.Chapter End Notes:I'll admit I did want to fit in a sex scene with Happy, but things just didn't really pave the way for it when I was writing. Maybe I can get her in in a future chapter
