Story Notes:

This is like something to empty my head because until I find the flash drive with the Myst series on it I'm screwed, so this is to keep you entertained in the meantime.

Chapter 3: First step forward

Jack opened his eyes and quickly closed them as a glaring light shined into his eyes. He tried again, and it didn't hurt as much now that he was prepared for it. Looking around he now found himself in a hospital room of some kind. Outside his window it was night, and Jack's heart sunk lower. He hated hospitals; he played too many survival horror games to like them. He tried to wipe his eyes but remembered that his left arm was disabled as only his right hand came up. He sighed and fell back on the bed, wincing a little from the fresh scars on his back. Just as he was about to fall asleep a low rumbling noise escaped his stomach.

Nurse Joy sat at the reception desk, after all that commotion with the stolen Pokemon and there were still 2 balls unclaimed. She figured they belonged to the boy in room 1-216. She clicked the boy's medical files and clicked his room's camera. She almost dropped her coffee mug when she saw he was missing. People in critical condition don't just miraculously get up and walk around. She clicked through the different cameras and froze when she stopped at the lobby cam. The patient was standing in front of the reception desk... Where she was.

She slowly looked up and saw him smiling.

"Hey, can I get something to eat, and my Pokemon healed if that's okay?" Jack said innocently.

Nurse Joy gaped at him. He came in on the verge of death and not even 3 hours later was he healed to the point where he could walk upright. Slowly she nodded and got out of her chair. After a few minutes Jack was sitting down, eating steak and bacon, with a glass of water. Nurse Joy then pulled out the chair across from him and sat down.

"Do you know where you are?"

Jack swallowed, "Well, I'm in a poke' center." She nodded. "In Petalburg city?" She shook her head side to side slowly, her eyes focused on him.

Jack stopped eating a minute, "Where am I then?"

Nurse Joy motioned him to follow. Jack quickly scarfed his food down and followed her to the reception desk. First she pulled out his brother's ranger clothes. Then she pulled out a room key, then she pulled out and unfolded a map on top of it all. She pointed to Rustboro city, A couple towns away from Oldale town. Jack groaned but then remembered he didn't specify to the Alakazam what poke' center he wanted to go to.

Jack looked at her, "What about my Pokemon? Are they okay?" Nurse Joy once again bent down under the desk and pulled out two poke' balls.

"Both are healed and a-ok. Now, off to your room, If you are strong enough to walk then you are well enough to have a room."

Jack nodded and reached into his pocket for his Trainer card but found it missing. He then smiled as he scratched his head. "Ah, it seems I have misplaced my ID."

Nurse Joy smiled, "Pokemon rangers get rooms for free that are sort of like a penthouse, but only rangers get them."

Jack nodded slowly, folded the map, and grabbed his clothes, the two balls, and his keycard. After walking for what felt like an hour he came to his door. After unlocking it he dropped it on the nightstand and dropped all of the other stuff on the bed. Now that he was done precariously balancing stuff with one arm he walked over to the phone. He then pushed 9, then he typed in the number for Birch's lab.

The phone rang about 7 times until someone picked it up.

"Hello?" A sleepy voice asked through the phone.

Jack leaned forward in the desk chair, "Professor Birch? It's Jack, Is May there?"

The person on the other side of the line dropped something then quickly came back on the Phone, "Jack, where are you?"

"Rustboro Pokemon center."

The person on the other line was quiet for awhile, "I'm going to send you a Poke' nav as well as a new Poke' dex, the last one you had was broken into pieces. I will also send you your Trainer card, I'll tell May to call you on your Poke' nav, ok?"

Jack agreed and hung up the phone, it wasn't as if he had much choice. No more than 20 minutes later did Jack hear a tapping on the window. He opened it and a Spearow flew in. It dropped the two electronics in it's beak and then flew back out the window without so much as a noise. Jack ignored the window for now and picked up his poke' dex. He pushed the update button and after a few seconds his Trainer card popped out of the slot. He pulled it out the rest of the way and looked at it. Not only was Talon's icon on his card, but there was another one that looked like a white dog. He opened his Poke' dex with a curious look, he clicked Pokemon, catches, Solaris?

Absol
Name: Solaris
Every time Absol appears before people, it is followed by a disaster such as an earthquake or a tidal wave. As a result, it came to be known as the disaster Pokemon. Absol also has the ability to foretell the coming of natural disasters. It lives in a harsh, rugged mountain environment. This Pokemon very rarely ventures down from the mountains. It sharply senses even subtle changes in the sky and the land to predict natural disasters. It is a long-lived Pokemon that has a life-span of 100 years. When it senses danger, it only appears to warn passerby of the imminent disaster.

Jack closed the poke' dex once it was finished and held the Absol's ball in his hand.

"Heh, Solaris, nice name."

Jack jumped back as the ball burst open and the white Pokemon appeared, standing on his bed.

It looked around with a look of confusion, "Thank you, but where am I now?"

Jack got back to his feet, "You're in Rustboro city. I should return you to your trainer and-"

"No, please don't!" It said in Jack's mind as it jumped on top of him. "The things he did to me... Please don't make me go back... Jack."

Jack looked into her pleading eyes and sighed, "Fine, but I want to know one thing."

Solaris looked at him then nodded her head, "Dark types can use telepathy too, only some though."

Jack yawned and looked at the clock on the wall to his left, it showed it was 3:00 AM. Solaris got off his chest and let him stand up. Jack took off his hat and jacket and climbed into the bed. He closed his eyes and felt something warm and soft against his chest again. He opened his eyes some to find Solaris curled up his body, sleeping. Jack put his head back down and soon fell back asleep. Solaris opened one eye and then reached her head up and licked Jack's lips.

"Thank you, Jack."

Solaris stirred as she felt warmth on her body. She opened her eyes and jumped off Jack causing him to mutter in his sleep but otherwise not move. Solaris then stretched, licked herself some, then jumped back on the bed and proceeded to lick at Jack's face to wake him up. After showering and combing his hair, Jack got into his clothes and collect all his gear.

Solaris walked alongside him as Talon stood on his shoulder. They walked through the city but were then stopped by a passerby trainer.

"You," The trainer yelled. "I want to battle!"

Jack complied and Talon jumped off his shoulder, ready for a fight. Solaris sat back and watched to see how well her trainer did in a battle.

"Go Pikachu, I choose you!" The boy said as he Pikachu jumped out of his backpack

"Pika Pi!"

Jack smiled and told Talon to use scratch, Jack had a good game plan. Solaris at first thought that Jack was crazy, The opponent had a type advantage here and Jack was just letting Torchic attack the Pikachu? Solaris then let her jaw drop as she saw his plan.

Soon Jack's Torchic started glowing and growing brighter as his form shifted. After a minute of light shows Talon stood there as a Combusken. The opponent spun his hat backwards and ordered his Pikachu to use thunderbolt, but Jack smirked.

"Talon, Double team then Double kick it." He said calmly as his smirk grew bigger.

Talon nodded and then made what looked like copies. The Pikachu was certainly confused as it looked from Combusken to Combusken. Suddenly a clawed foot came crashing upon it's face twice, sending it flying into a nearby signpost. The boy ran over to his Pikachu and Jack tossed him a full revive he bought earlier for just such an occasion.

"Thanks, my name is Ash by the way. Are you a Pokemon Ranger?"

"Not really, My name is Jack by the way."

Jack sat across Ash in a restaurant petting Solaris as Ash practically inhaled his food. Jack Looked down at Solaris, she had a look of content on her face with her tongue hanging out.

"So Ash, how old are you?"

"14" He said between bites.

"Really, and you said you started when you were 10?" Ash nodded.

Ash swallowed the last of his meal and sighed, " What about you?"

Jack drank more of his iced tea, "Well when I was 10 I decided to stay in school until I turned 17 a couple months back. So I'm really actually new to this."

Ash looked at him in awe, "Wow you must have a strong connection with your Pokemon if you knew he would evolve mid-battle."

"Yeah I guess so." Jack said said as if that was it. But that wasn't the case, just like when he was looking for the psychic Pokemon in prison, something in him told him it would happen.

Ash jolted up and grabbed Pikachu. "Oh my god, I forgot I was supposed to meet May over in Petalburg city 20 minutes ago! We were going to go battle the Gym Leader!"

Jack stood up as well, "Really, ya' know my father is the Gym Leader." Ash's mouth hung open again. "You know if you let me come along I might tell you some tips on beating him." Jack said with a smile. He needed to know where May was and now he did.
Chapter End Notes:I was telling myself I wouldn't do this but it worked out in my opinion
