Chapter 5: One night...

(Brandon's POV)

After forty minutes of nothing, but silent walking I broke the awkward silence by saying, "So Kelly I have a question for you."

She looked up to me with a smile on her face and asked, "Yes, what is it?"

"How much have you traveled before we leave today?" I asked her.

"Well I had been to the Sinnoh region, before to attend the Pokémon league. So Basically I've been all over that region, now I'm here to go to the Pokémon League in this region. Does that answer your question?" She asked cutely.

I then nodded to her and looked down the road. Looking down the road to see how far we had to walk, I then let out a soft sigh. She lived right on the far edge of the city, plus we were walking so it had made the trip a lot longer than I'd hoped.

More than likely father has surely called by now and I'm pretty sure he wants Brian and myself to leave that city. I just don't know where yet and that's bothering me more than it really should.

As we neared the edge of the city we could her house, it wasn't anything special; nothing a person passing by would give a second look at.

She seemed to get a lot happier once we started approaching it. I looked over to her and saw the grin on her face stretch almost to her ears.

"Why are you so happy?" I asked her curiously.

"Not sure...think it's because I haven't actually traveled with someone during my last journey." She then looked to the sky and then back towards me. "I thought I would have to go through this region alone, I have to say it feels good to have some company."

"I'm sure having your Pokémon with you should have kept you somewhat company, right?" I asked her while looking at her house.

There was a front porch with a couple of chairs on it with a red door next to them.

"Yeah you can say that, but come now how would you like to spend three month with nobody except Pokémon. Also every other person you meet wants to battle you..." She said sighing probably recalling on the past.

Deciding it was for the best to change to subject I quickly said, "So how long do you think it'll take you?"

"Oh...umm...about fifthteen minutes." She said guessing.

"Ok then I'll just wait out here for you, plus a have to make a phone call to my brother and see what he's up to." I said back to her smiling.

"Alright then I'll be back quickly as I can." She said dashing off inside her house.

I made my way up to her porch and over to the chairs that were facing out towards the rest of the city. The view wasn't too great simply because of the tall buildings blocking the sight, but watching life move along in a fast pace environment was bad either. To a person who isn't a huge nature lover, seeing the city the way it is now is pretty good.

My mind began to think about all the Pokémon that I owned, which weren't that many to begin with. I only had three, but I'm pretty proud to have them all. Just capturing them all felt like an achievement in itself, probably because they all had a story behind it.

(Memory)

I had my Quilava 'Ruption', a Mienfoo 'Foo', and my Pawniard 'Swipe'. My first Pokémon Ruption I received when I lived back in Johto. It was about two years ago right after my brother and I got into a fight, just right after he gotten that horrid Eevee. He felt that he was the best trainer in the world although she would never say anything or show any real emotion.

He would always boast to me about it which was quite annoying and one day I got sick of it and hit him in the face. We both fought each other for an entire day even when teachers would try to separate us we'd find each other and fight.

So at one point I grew tired of fighting with him and ran away into the nearby forest. Once I was deep enough to feel that nobody would have followed me. I found a tree that fell over and was on the ground decaying, I didn't think too much about it so I decided to kick it to vent out my frustration.

After about fifteen minutes of nonstop kicking I final started to become fatigued. That's where I met Ruption who was sitting by my side most likely the entire time. At the time he was a Cyndaquil, and he was very timid. I later find the tree was his home and I just completely it stomped in.

After then he wouldn't stop following me even after I went back home, so I decided to keep him. I tried to battle Brian and that Eevee, but they were too damn strong. When we use to get challenged together with them Diamond and Ruption were almost invincible, but I don't really want to rely on my brother strength for the rest of my life.

I would like to spend more time with Ruption, but dealing people is much easier than dealing with Pokémon. My brother on the other hand would train with his Pokémon so much to the point that Diamond evolved into the cold hearted beast that she is today. Whenever she battled with Ruption or any of my other Pokémon she'd most likely use them as a shield if our opponent attacks are too powerful for her to handle.

The time that Ruption evolved made me one happiest people on this planet. It was during the time our father came to pick us up and I guess the excitement must have evolved him accidently.

He just as happy as well spouting a wall of flame to display his new found power, that or I think since Diamond was there he wanted to intimidate her. After that he's always been my powerhouse and my best Pokémon.

After that I began to think about my Pawniard and how I found him, he was really aggressive for something to be so small. Back when I first came to this region I saw a group of three knightly looking Pokémon one day while I was walking through the forest. They all wielded lances for arms and wore very familiar helmets. I wanted to know what they were doing so I decided to follow them.

They were walking in a straight line which made me curious as to what they were doing. About twenty minutes passed before they actually did something. There was a small Pawniard that stood in the front of them pointing one of its blades on its arms at the group.

I could immediately tell what it was trying to do and I could also tell that it wasn't going to work. It rushed into the crowd of knights I saw that later they were Escavalier. The small Pawniard was strong enough to take out one of them, but soon was overwhelmed by the other two.

My body moved on its own as I pulled Ruption to help the small Pokémon. Since they were bug/steel types my Quilava was easily able to take care of them. With a quick surprise flame thrower they went down fast.

When we were done the Pawniard silently approached us. He suddenly dropped his right knee and bowed respectfully, but it wasn't towards me. It was towards Ruption; Ruption looked back up to me with the confused look in his face. All I did shrug at him and signaled him to leave with me, just in case something else wanted to pop up.

As the both of started leaving we look back to see that the Pawniard was following us as well. The thought of when I had first met Ruption in a similar fashion came into my mind which caused me to giggle slightly. Shaking my head at the thought I smiled as I continued onwards back to my new home.

(Present)

Suddenly I heard a door burst wide open snapping me back to reality. "I'm ready!" I heard a feminine voice yell.

"Shit I wasn't thinking anything!" I said after being startled while holding a guard over my face.

"Huh!?" Kelly said looking towards me very confused.

"Damn girl you scared the hell out of me..." I said standing to my feet to face her.

"So what were you thinking about?" She asked innocently.

"Nothing don't worry about it...you got everything ready?" I counter asked her changing the subject.

"Yeah I'm ready... Did you make that phone call?"

Using my right hand I slapped my face hard into my palm.

"I'll take that as a no." She said with a slight giggle.

Taking my face from my hand I look back towards her house and ask, "You have any folks staying here?" My face turned into a concerned one when I asked. I didn't want to take her away from her family just because wanted a female companion.

"No, I don't have any family. I make all my money through battles and sponsorships, so I'm free to go where I please." She said smiling at me.

"Wow then you should be a pretty good trainer then to achieve so much at such a young age." I said smiling trying to look for a brighter side in this conversation. I would like try to relate to her, but I know this subject can be very sensitive.

"Yeah I guess you can say that, but it was a lot of hard work and doing it alone wasn't any better." She said smiling walking down her stoop that leads to the sidewalk.

I notice that she had a different outfit on nothing to flashy just a plain black shirt a pair of blue jeans and a pair of black shoes. She had a camouflage back pack; she had her pink bright hair pulled back into a pony's tail. Her light skin tone was much like that of mine and my brothers which just added to her beauty.

"I'm surprised that you don't have a boyfriend already. I mean just seeing you walk down the stairs there almost gave me a boner. I know while you were out in the Sinnoh region there was plenty of guys who would have killed to be in my position." I said just speaking my mind.

"Quite the flatterer aren't you?" She said with a hint of a giggle.

"You are beautiful I'll give you that, so you think I could ask you question?" I said following behind her.

She blushed while turning her face from me to hide it away from me saying, "And what would that be?"

"Why me?" I asked her curiously.

"I don't know really..." She started walking down the street back towards the mansion we stayed at.

"Please don't tell me it's because money?..." I asked slightly disappointed continuing to follow behind her.

"Umm...well actually yeah, but it's not the reason you're thinking of. More like you're a person with a lot of power yet you don't dangle it over people's heads. You share what you have, and I could tell that you enjoy people, also seeing them happy. I could tell that from last night." She said stopping.

"Heh now you're flattering me, but I don't think I'm the way you think I really am. Though we could talk about this later it's getting pretty late and my brother really hates waiting." I said looking to the sun.

Another hour flew by when we made it back to the mansion. Brian was sitting down outside in a chair with both his Pokémon out. He had them doing the strangest thing ever. His Dewott was riding on top of his Glaceon like a horse, but it look as if though they were stuck that way.

As Kelly and I got closer, I could see that he had his Dewott torso wrapped up in a bandage that was also attached to his Glaceon torso. For as long as I knew my brother I would have never guessed him to be a masochistic type person.

I really didn't think he'd do this sort of thing atleast not to his Pokémon, I mean he's a Pokémon lover but this is taking it too far.

"And what's going on here?" Kelly asked in great confusion.

"Yeah this is some pretty freaky shit Brian." I said walking over to the both of them kneeling down to their level to see how he has the connected.

"Whatever, dude you should have seen them in the kitchen. Thanks to these two it's completely trashed, so if they don't want to learn to get along with each other...things like this will keep happening." He said pointing at the two of them.

"Wow bro, but don't you think this is a little extreme..." I said in protest.

"Nope, I don't think it's harsh enough. Though in a while it's going to get a lot tougher on them that's for sure." He said retracting his hand and closing his eye angrily.

"So this is how you treat your Pokémon?" Kelly asked Brian.

"I know what you're thinking and no, it isn't; if you were to have seen what kind of death grip those two had each other in you would do the same thing." He said while still looking at his Pokémon.

"Umm...no I wouldn't." She said bluntly.

Turning his attention to Kelly he stood up and out of his chair and said, "Alright first of all 'hi' my name is Brian and you are...?"

"Kelly, nice to meet you, but my answer still stands." She said sternly.

Brian turned his gaze over to me as I started to approach him. I just gave him a slight shrug in somewhat confusion, but in all honesty I really didn't care. Though knowing Brian he isn't going to let it go till he gets his point across.

I just walked right in front of him and shoved him out of the way and took a seat in the chair that he was sitting in. I knew this was going to turn into argument, but I was more curious to see what degree though. Also if Kelly had it in her to shut my brother up, because if going to travel with us she's going to have to defend her pride while he's around.

"Brandon, what the hell are you doing?" Brian asked me.

"Nothing just watching..." I answered back.

"Anyway...Kelly my Pokémon fights as a team and when I turn my back on them for a slight second they'll be trying to kill each other. So there you have it and that's why they are in that position." He said point towards his Pokémon again.

I followed his hand to look at them myself and slightly giggled at the sight of his Glaceon in that position. She was a very prideful Pokémon but to be put in such an awkward position was too funny for me to hold a straight face. I noticed that her left eye was closed and her right eye was open; though that could be because of the weight of his Dewott on her back placing a strain on her.

His Dewott looked to be dead the way she looked. She didn't even look up when Kelly or I made our way towards the mansion. Then again Brian would know what's best for his Pokémon and this isn't the first time I heard about the two of them fighting with each other.

"I just think how you're handling this is wrong is all I'm saying." Kelly said causing me to look towards her. "Brandon you just let your brother do "this" to his Pokémon?"

I just sighed at the question and said, "Kelly it may not look right, but I'm sure if I were to go inside the house right now it'll be completely trashed. Plus I know his Pokémon and they aren't the two of the friendliest you could meet. And if he had to do this to them as a punishment I'm more than sure that they deserve it."

Kelly just shook her head and folded her arm looking off in the distant away from Brian and me. Once she did that I reached out had tapped Brian on his leg, waving my index finger inwards I silently asked him to bend his head closer. Without saying a word he did so.

"So did father called?" I asked whispering to him.

"Yeah he did." He replies.

"What did he want?"

"He wants the two of us to head to Nuvema Town and be there in two weeks." He said with a disappointed look in his eye.

"Sounds good...Brian what's wrong?" I asked him.

"Well it's just that he's going to be here personally and you know how that makes me sometimes." He confessed.

"Don't worry bro, nothing going to happen I'm sure he just wants to check up on us that's all." I said hopefully cheering him up. Though I know I'm just being a little naïve when I say that, but we can't start panicking just because the man is coming here.

"For our sake I hope that's true, he wants to see how well we've progressed in our journey as well. So bro starting tomorrow we're going to be training like there literally no future..." He said with all seriousness in his face.

"Okay..." I said disappointed.

"Are you two done whispering to each other?" Kelly said breaking the mood between Brian and me. "If so then I'm ready to head on out now."

I stood up out of the chair and made my way over to her. She remained still while having her arm folded, she smirked a bit as I approached her. Upon reaching her I reached out and grabbed her around her shoulders and pulled her into a deep kiss. As expected she offered no resistance.

"Ugh last I check you have a room..." Brian said making a fake gagging noise.

"Yeah I do, so you know what let's stay one more night here. That'll give me a chance to get ready and relax before we head there." I said looking back at Brian with a hint of a smile on my face.

Shaking his head Brian pulled out two Clam shells and made his way over to his Pokémon. He knelt down and used the clam shells to cut the white cloth. Placing the shells back on this Dewott he pulled out two of his Pokéballs and aimed them towards both his Pokémon. A red beam shot out and made contact with the two miserable Pokémon and recalled them back into their balls.

"For once I think could agree with you, but we'll be training twice as hard alright?" He said standing to his feet looking at both Kelly and I.

"Sure thing bro." I replied.

"Aww Brandon I really did want to leave..." Kelly said.

"Nah the place my brother and I are going, will be one of the most stressful and life changing places we will ever have to go. So I have one more question..." I said while looking her in the eyes.

"Another one? Go ahead shoot." She said now smiling.

"Are you sure you want to go?" I asked.

"Yeah sure why not, plus I need the gym badges from over that way while we're heading that way. So everything will work out." She said still smiling.

"Well all of that fun stuff doesn't start till tomorrow, but for the rest of the day let's go have our own brand of fun." I said as I leaned in to kiss her again.
