Gamma's Story by gamma

The Beginning

First, let me introduce myself. I am called Gamma. I am Delta's twin brother. I am an Espeon, as you can plainly see, although I'm sure you've noticed an oddity about me. Unlike most Espeons, I have green eyes rather than a very deep blue. I'm sure you'd like to hear my side of the story. Very well then, I shall oblige...

My story starts at about the same time Delta's did. Back when we were just two weeks old. My mother woke me up early that morning. I opened my eyes, seeing that Delta was just woken up as well. A howl rang out in the distance. Our mother, Beta, ran over to the edge of our home, calling for us to go with her. I had a bad feeling about what was going to happen. Our mother told us the day before that she made an enemy of a nearby Growlithe who swore vengeance on her. Apparently she got into a fight with him over territory. She found a berry bush and took some of its fruit, and he wasn't happy about it, seeing as the bush was on his territory. She managed to fight him off, and he swore a vendetta on her. I felt like he was coming to take his revenge on our mother. And I couldn't have been more right. The Growlithe leapt out from behind a tree

"Where do you think you're goin'? The party's just about to start," he said, smirking. "And you are our guests of honor."

I saw two more Growlithe come up behind him. Wasting no time, one of them leapt at our mother, but she was able to dodge out of the way. Turning to face him, she let off a Thundershock, taking him down. Delta ran over to me, looking scared. The other Growlithe dove onto my mother's back, tackling her to the ground. She used another Thundershock, weakening him enough for her to toss him off. I looked over to see the lead Growlithe staring at Delta and me. I didn't like the look he gave us one bit. Before I could react, he threw himself at us. Delta jumped out of his way, but I couldn't get away in time. I felt a sharp pain in my chest as he tore into my flesh. I hollered in pain, his claws ripping into me. Our mother launched herself at him, knocking him off me. Everything was starting to get blurry, I could hardly breathe. My mother came over to me, trying her best to comfort me.

Everything faded to black.

I awoke to a very strange sight. I was in a white room, laying on a soft surface. The pain from the attack returned to me, and I cried out in pain. I squirmed from the agony that I was in. I noticed that I was covered with something odd. A material of some sort wrapped around my body. I heard a clicking noise behind me. I turned my head, looking to see what made the sound. A human female walked into the room. She walked over to me and sat on something near where I lay.

"I see you're awake, that's good," she said. I watched her cautiously, remembering what my mother told me about my father, Alpha. He was killed by a human about a week before Delta and I were born.

"You're probably wondering what you're doing here. Well, I found you alone in the forest while I was on a hike. I saw you lying helplessly on the ground, covered in blood and unconscious. I looked around and didn't see any sign of your family, so I picked you up and brought you here. You're in a Pokemon Center, it's a place where sick or hurt Pokemon are taken care of. You're lucky I found you when I did, Nurse Joy said if it was just a few minutes later, you wouldn't have made it," she explained. "My name's Jenny, by the way. Do you have a name?"

I looked up at her. I remembered my mother teaching Delta and me our names. She drew our names into the dirt with her claw, their original Greek forms. I remembered how to make the gamma that I was named for, and I attempted to trace it onto the cloth I was laying on. She looked at it for a moment, apparently not understanding the symbol.

"y?", she asked me, staring at me, confused. "Your name is y?"

I shook my head. She didn't understand the Greek letter I had etched onto the fabric. I heard the same clicking noise as before, and looked around to see another human enter, this one also female. Her clothing was considerably different from Jenny's, and she wore a white hat with a red cross on the front.

"Nurse Joy, he's finally awake," Jenny said.

"Really? That's great. I think our little friend just might pull through. What's that?", Nurse Joy asked, pointing at the gamma I had drawn.

"I'm not sure. I asked him what his name was, and he responded by drawing that."

"It looks like a y. But that doesn't make sense." Nurse Joy looked at it for a moment, trying to figure out what it was. "That might be a gamma, but I'm not sure."

I looked up at her, and she stared back curiously. "Is that your name? Gamma?" I nodded in response. "Okay, I need to get to work."

She began unwrapping the bandages wrapped around me. She disposed of them, and began inspecting my wounds. I lay there helplessly, writhing in pain from the treatment, my chest burning in agony. She held me down so she could continue her work. She applied a medicine of some sort to my cuts. I screamed out, the medicine causing an intense wave of searing pain. Knowing that my movement would make her job harder to do, she asked Jenny to hold me still while she quickly finished. She wrapped some new bandages around my midsection. She then walked over to the table next to me and picked up a needle. She also took a small bottle and filled the syringe with the fluid within. She set the bottle back down and placed a hand on my back. I panicked and began to squirm, knowing what was about to happen, but I stopped because of the pain caused by my motion. She quickly stabbed the needle into me, injecting the liquid into my body.

"Don't worry. It's to help with the pain", she assured me. She was right. Soon after, the pain seemed to melt away, leaving a rather pleasant feeling in its place. It made me feel a bit drowsy as well. I let my head fall onto my forepaws as I quickly fell asleep.

I woke the next morning, the first thing I saw was Jenny's face. "Good morning, Gamma. How are you feeling?" she asked me.

"Ee...eevee, vee..." I said.
"I...I'm OK, I guess..."

Of course, she couldn't understand me, but I think she got the idea. I could feel the pain start to return, but it was definitely weaker than the day before.

"You hungry?" she asked me. "You've been out for a few days, you must be starving."

That was true, I was really hungry. I nodded to her, and my stomach answered for itself as well. She laughed and got up. "I'll be right back."

A couple minutes later she returned with two small bowls. She laid them before me and I peered into them. One filled with fresh berries, the other with water.

"Eevee eev," I said to her.
"Thank you,"

She gently patted me on the head. "You're welcome," she replied. She continued petting my head, and I slowly closed my eyes, enjoying the feeling. She stood up and left the room to let me eat in privacy. I looked back down into the bowl with berries and picked one out. I remembered this kind in particular. It was the same kind my mother got into a fight with that Growlithe over. I popped it into my mouth, savoring the tangy taste. That berry got me thinking about my mother, and I felt a tear roll along my face. I wondered where she and Delta were. It didn't seem right that I was alone when Jenny found me, something must have happened. I tried to force the thought out of my mind and continued eating.

Jenny walked back into the room a while later with another human, this one male. She noticed that I had finished and came over to me. "How was it Ga..." she paused, noticing my face. I couldn't get rid of the thought of being separated from my family. "What's wrong?" she asked my worriedly.

I looked up at her with tears in my eyes. She seemed to understand what was bothering me as though reading my mind. "You're worried about your family, huh? There's not much I can tell you but that they weren't there when I found you. I did notice several paw prints going away from you though. I think something may have happened to them. It doesn't make sense that a mother would abandon her child."

Her words were of little comfort to me, but they did shed some light on what may have happened. That Growlithe must have come back to finish what he started, and my mother and Delta must have fled. She probably thought I was too injured to survive, but Delta, being unharmed, had a fighting chance. You might think I was upset by that, but it made perfect sense to me, even then. Jenny sat down next to me, gently petting me in an attempt to comfort me. The other human walked over behind her.

"So this is the Eevee you told me about?" he asked her. She nodded to him.

The door opened and Joy entered the room. "Hi Jenny, Thomas. How is he?"

"He seems alright," Jenny told her.

Joy walked over to me and began to unwrap the bandages around my body. "He looks like he's almost recovered. I think he can be released tomorrow."

"Really? But, where would he go? He has no home." Thomas asked.

"Well, I was thinking about taking him in when he got better. He doesn't have anywhere to go, so why not let him stay with us until he's ready to live on his own?" Jenny replied.

She reached down to me and began stroking my fur. I loved the feeling of her hand running along my skin. I thought about what she said. She was offering to take me into her home and care for me. I never expected a human to care about Pokemon, not after the story about my dad, but before me stood a compassionate, caring one. Joy bandaged my injuries and left the room.

"OK, Jenny, I'm gonna head home, I have something I need to take care of. I'll talk to you later," Thomas said. He scratched behind my ear before walking out of the room.

"Well Gamma, how would you like to live with me?" she asked.

"Ee...Eevee ee," I responded.
"I...I don't know"

I looked at her uncertainly. I wasn't entirely sure I could trust her, but she hadn't done anything to me besides save my life, so I figured I'd give her a chance.

"Eevee vee eevee," I said smiling at her. She smiled back at me, understanding what I tried to tell her.
"I would love to."

The rest of the day passed by in a blur. Jenny stayed with me the whole time, telling me about herself. She was 17 years old; lived with her brother, Tom; and she loved going into the forest. I'm quite thankful for that last bit of information, considering that's how she came by me in the first place. She left the room as night fell. She gently patted me before leaving. I fell asleep a short while after.

That's where I think I'll stop for now. Come by later and I'll tell you more. Good bye for now.
