Gamma's Story by gamma

Separation

Hello there, how are you today? Well, I suppose now isn't really time for chit chat, since I'm sure you'd rather hear my story, so here goes...

"...two humans, I really don't want to deal with two hundred," I heard in my sleep.

The voice woke me up. I slowly opened my eyes, the first sight of the day being Delta's dark brown eyes. I rolled over and sat up.

"Good morning, Gamma," Delta greeted me.

"Morning," I responded. I yawned lightly and looked around.

The front door suddenly opened. I turned to see what was happening. The boy, Aaron walked into the house. Peter was standing on his shoulder, lazily leaning on the side of Aaron's head. He jumped down off of Aaron's shoulder and walked over to Tom's chair, which Ryan was sleeping upon. Seeing that Ryan was still asleep, he walked over to Delta and me.

"Morning guys," he said.

"Morning Peter," Delta replied.

"Good morning," I greeted him.

"Hey Peter," a voice said from the fireplace near the kitchen. I turned and saw the Growlithe, Greg, lying on the hearth.

"Aaron wants to continue today, Delta. He said it was nice being able to come here, but he wants to continue his journey," Peter said.

"Oh," Delta said sadly. "So you mean..."

"Yeah, I'm afraid so," Peter interrupted. He looked at Delta and saw that he was on the verge of tears. I could see that he really didn't want to leave me again. "That is, of course, unless Gamma decides to come with us."

Delta suddenly turned around to face me.

"What do you say, Gamma? You want to come with us to explore the world?" he asked excitedly.

"I'm sorry, Delta, I really would like to go with you guys, but I can't just leave Jenny. Like I said yesterday, I owe her my life," I answered.

"I'm sure Aaron would let her come with us," he added desperately.

"But Jenny has a life here, she can't just up and leave. I would really love to go with you, but I can't."

He sat there staring at the floor. He knew he couldn't force me or Jenny to go, and he wasn't going to try. Truth be told, I really wanted to go with him.

The hours quickly passed by until about noon. Aaron had called all but Delta and Ryan into Pokeballs. I didn't understand why he left Ryan out, but I didn't really care at the time. Delta walked up to me.

"I guess this is goodbye, Gamma," he said. I could see a tear forming in his eye.

"I suppose," I answered him. "But at least this time we're being separated in a peaceful manner. You'll always be welcome here, brother." I could barely bring myself to say the last word. "Goodbye."

I watched sadly as he left. He turned around to look at me again. I imitated something I'd seen Jenny do towards Tom when he would leave. I raised a paw and waved it at him. He mimicked me, then slowly turned away. I turned to return to the house.

I saw Jenny pacing around the living room. She looked worried about something. I heard her mutter to herself, "Where could he be?" I realized that Tom had been missing for the past two days. Jenny seemed to have come to some resolution and walked over to the table next to his chair. She picked something up from the table, something she called a 'telephone', and pressed a few buttons on it. She held it up to the side of her head and waited.

"Hello," she said suddenly, causing me to stare up at her in surprise. "Is Tom Labyr there?"

She stopped for a moment before she spoke again, seemingly to nobody.

"What!? He hasn't shown up the past couple days?" The worry in her face became more obvious after she said those words. "Well, thanks anyway."

She set the telephone back onto the table and sat down. She appeared to be lost in thought, so I decided to leave her alone. We sat in silence for a few minutes before the door opened. I jumped and turned to face it. Jenny simply looked up. Tom entered the house, causing Jenny to jump out of the chair she'd been sitting in and rushed over to him. I stared at him for a moment, observing his appearance. He was wearing all black again. He looked exhausted, as though he'd been working himself extremely hard. He simply walked past Jenny after a quick greeting and into his room. I watched as he staggered down the hallway, looking like he was going to collapse from the effort.

"I'm just glad he's back," I heard Jenny whisper to herself. I turned around to face her and she gazed down at me. "Oh, Gamma, I completely forgot. I never gave you back your collar."

She rushed off into her bedroom and returned with the green fabric. She wrapped it gently around my neck, carefully fastening the small latch on it. I nuzzled her hand to thank her. She moved her hand above me and stroked my back.

The day seemed to slip past. I stayed on the couch the entire day, thinking about what Delta must be up to. Night fell on Elysia, and I simply laid on the couch, trying to sleep. A storm had been roaring on for hours, and the noise was very bothersome. I jumped down off of the couch and walked into Jenny's room. I looked around, trying to find a place that would somewhat mute out the sound. Deciding that the best place was probably beneath her bed, I crawled underneath it. The storm could still be heard quite clearly, however. I gave a deep sigh and just closed my eyes, hoping to be able to ignore the noise.

It would have been wonderful to go and see all the places he's told me about. Still, I don't regret my decision, I couldn't just abandon Jenny after all she'd done for me. She saved my life, and I owed it to her. Well, I have a few errands to run, so I guess I'll talk to you later. Bye for now.
