Return to the Pokemon Center

Well hello there. I know it's been a while, so let me think about where I left off. Oh, right...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke the next morning to a squeaking noise above me. I lifted my head and was greeted by a sharp pain. I lowered it back down and looked up to see what I hit. I had forgotten I was beneath Jenny's bed. I crawled out from underneath it, careful to not hit my head again. I looked up and saw Jenny still asleep on top of the bed. She must have just moved in her sleep. I padded over to the door and nudged it open, leaving the room.
I entered the living room and looked around. With Delta and his friends gone, it seemed empty. I let out a deep sigh and walked toward the kitchen, hoping to find something to eat. I heard a small squeak and then the sound of metal hitting metal. I turned around to see the source of the noise and noticed a piece of paper on the floor near the front door. I went to examine the small object, noticing that it was not a piece of paper, but rather an envelope. I figured Jenny would like to see this, so I picked it up carefully and carried it into her room. I pushed the door open and walked inside. I looked at the bed and saw Jenny was starting to wake. She turned her head and saw me standing by the door, holding the envelope.
"Oh, hey Gamma. What's that you've got there?" she asked, standing up from the bed. I set the envelope down onto the floor to let her take it. She bent down and picked it up off of the floor.
"Oh, I know what this is," she said before opening it. She reached into it and pulled out a piece of paper and a small plastic bag that held something gold and shiny. I watched her as she read the letter. She set it down onto the desk and opened the small plastic bag, extracting the small metal object within it. She knelt down before me and showed it to me.
"Gamma, this is your license," she explained. I examined the license she held before me. That's when I understood why she wanted me to make another gamma for her, as the medallion bore the symbol as well as a word I couldn't read. She turned it over and I saw some more words inscribed onto it. "It has your name and our address on it. As long as you have this with you, you can roam about town without supervision, so long as you don't get into trouble."
She reached down and removed my collar. I watched as she attached the small tag to it. She put the collar back on me, making sure the tag was hanging down on my chest. She scratched my head behind my ear after she finished, the feeling making me squirm.
"You want something to eat?" she asked me. I quickly nodded to her.
She walked out of the room, and I followed her as she walked to the kitchen. I watched her retrieve a jar of Pokefood and a bowl from a cabinet above the counter. She scooped some of the food from the jar into the bowl. She put the jar back into the cabinet and set the bowl down in front of me.
"Eevee vee," I said to her before digging in.
"Thank you,"
Jenny left the kitchen as I began to eat. I enjoyed the flavor of the food as I scarfed it down. I pulled my face out of the bowl after I finished, licking my muzzle to get any bits that had gotten onto it. I pushed the bowl out of the middle of the floor with my nose, placing it against the wall, then left the room. I walked into the living room to see Jenny sitting on the couch, watching the TV. I leapt up next to her and laid down, resting my head on her lap. I looked over at the TV and saw that she was once again watching the news. She began idly stroking my head as we watched.
"...and snow is to be expected for tomorrow. Back to you Paul," the weather reporter said.
"Thank you, Jamie. More news from the Ryca shoreline. Not only was yet another Pokemon's corpse found this morning, but this time an unidentified man as well. He was found wearing dark green clothing of some kind. The two were taken to Ryca for autopsies. Still no results as of yet. More on that story later, but now, on to sports..." Paul reported.
Jenny turned off the TV after hearing about yet another murdered Pokemon. I turned my head to face her. She just looked down at me with a blank expression. Perhaps the stories of all those Pokemon that were killed were getting to her. She just stared at me for a moment.
"It's going to snow tomorrow, maybe we should see if we can get you a PokeFlu vaccination today," she said suddenly. She stood up and walked into her room. I stood up and stretched out, knowing that she was planning on going to the Pokemon Center. She came out of the room a few minutes later, fully dressed and ready to go.
"Ready?" she asked, opening the front door. I hopped down from the couch and walked out the door. She closed it behind us and we left for the Pokemon Center.
We made our way towards the Center, reaching it shortly. We walked through the automatic front doors and up to the counter. Unlike the times before when I had been there, the Center seemed rather calm and empty. Nobody was in the lobby, and Nurse Joy was nowhere to be seen. Jenny looked around for a moment, probably looking for Nurse Joy, before ringing the bell on the desk. Soon after, Nurse Joy came into view from a pair of double doors to the right of the desk.
"Oh, Jenny. What can I do for you today?" she asked, smiling.
"I figured I'd bring Gamma in for a PokeFlu vaccination," Jenny answered.
"Oh, well you're in luck, we still have a few doses left," Joy said. She looked down to the floor on our side of the counter to see me. "Gamma, if you'll come with me, we can get this over with."
I was unsure of what she meant by 'get this over with'. Nevertheless, I followed her as she led me through the doors she entered from. We walked down the long hallway past several rooms, some of which had their doors marked to show that it was occupied. She stopped suddenly while I was looking around and I bumped into the back of her leg. She turned and looked down at me. I looked away from her, rather embarrassed by what I did. She opened the door she had stopped at and ushered me in.
"Alright, if you could get up onto the table, we can get started," she said and turned to retrieve the supplies she'd need. I walked over to the table she mentioned, noticing a small staircase on one side of it. I climbed up the stairs onto the table and sat down, waiting for her to finish. She turned around, holding a needle, and I immediately understood what she meant earlier.
"Lie down please," she instructed. I complied nervously, never taking my eyes off of the syringe she carried. She walked around the table behind me. "Alright, this will sting a bit, but it'll be over shortly."
I tensed up, knowing what was coming. She stuck the needle into me, injecting me with the fluid within it. I nearly jumped off the table from the sudden prick, but she held me down with her free hand. She pulled it out, setting it on the counter against the wall. I relaxed my muscles, realizing the worst was over.
"All done. Not too bad, was it?" she said to me. I shook my head to her and she smiled. "Well, lets get you back to Jenny."
She walked over to the door and opened it. Eager to leave, I leapt off the table and rushed out the door. I could hear her giggling behind me as she closed it. As I walked back into the lobby, Jenny was sitting in a chair by the window, reading the book I'd seen her with for a while. It must have been a good book, because she didn't even look up when Joy and I approached her. I hopped up into the chair next to her and sat down. She closed the book, marking her place.
"Well, how was it?" she asked me. Not knowing how to properly explain it to her, I simply nodded. I was getting a bit annoyed not having a real method of communication with her. Nurse Joy was watching me for a moment before turning to Jenny.
"He might be pretty tired for the next couple days, it's a common side-effect of the vaccination," she informed Jenny. "Though, if it becomes more than just a lack of energy, bring him back here immediately."
"Thank you, Nurse Joy," Jenny replied. She stood up and walked towards the door. I followed suit and trailed behind her.
"Gamma, can I see you for a moment?" I heard Nurse Joy call from behind us. I turned around and stared at her, confused. "Please?"
I looked back at Jenny, who was giving me a look that plainly said 'go ahead', so I figured I'd go see what Joy wanted. I walked back over to her, and she picked me up and carried me over to her desk, placing me upon it.
"I saw the expression you made after you answered her question. I can tell you're frustrated not being able to speak with her." She hit that one on the nose. "Well, there is hope that the two of you can communicate. Some humans, like myself and the other Joys, are capable of understanding Pokemon languages. It takes a while to fully comprehend, but after some time and study of how Pokemon speak, we can translate their speech. However, not all humans can do this, and of them, very few know all the languages. Each Pokemon evolution chain has its own language, and it takes time to learn each one. There are some other ways you could talk with her though. There are some kinds of Pokemon that are capable of speaking Human languages, but they don't necessarily know them. Most of the list is made up of psychic-types and humanoid Pokemon, but there are some that aren't. Among the list, is the full range of Eevee and their evolutions, which means, with study and practice, you might be able to speak our language. Again, not all are capable of doing it." With those words, my spirits brightened. There might be a way for me to speak Human language, and that would allow me to communicate with Jenny. I thought about it as Joy continued her speech. "I suppose you could also try to learn our written language, but it's pretty hard for a quadruped to write."
"Wait, you said I could maybe be able to speak your language?" I interrupted. After she said she could understand Pokemon language, I knew she'd know what I said.
"Yes, it is possible. You'd have to practice a lot though. While it's possible, it's not necessarily easy to do. Most Pokemon just can't speak it because of difficulty forming the words. If you really want to be able to do that, it takes dedication and hard work."
"I don't care, I'll do anything to be able to talk with her," I said eagerly. She simply smiled at me.
"Well then, make sure to practice speaking our language. If you need help, you can always come here if I'm not busy, I'll help you out. I see you've been registered, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting here. Well, you should probably go with Jenny, she seems to be getting impatient."
She was right. I turned and saw Jenny standing near the door, tapping her foot. I quickly thanked Joy and jumped down from the desk, returning to Jenny's side. We left the Pokemon Center and headed home. She opened the door when we got back and we walked in, seeing Tom sitting on the chair, once again watching TV.
"Where have you been?" he asked as we entered.
"I was taking Gamma in for a PokeFlu vaccination," Jenny responded.
"I see..."
I was beginning to feel a bit tired like Nurse Joy had said would happen. I walked over to the couch and hopped up onto it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't really remember much else about that day, considering I fell asleep almost immediately after lying down on the couch. I don't remember much of anything about the next two days either, I was just too tired to do anything but sleep, except when Jenny woke me up to eat, after which I just fell back to sleep. That day gave me hope, though. Nurse Joy's speech about Human-Pokemon communication gave me something to do for a while. But that's a story for another day.
