A Winter Emergency

Hello there again. Let's get straight to the point, I'm kind of tired right now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Several weeks had passed since I received my license and my PokeFlu vaccine, and not much had happened during the Winter season. For the most part, I stayed inside, sheltered from the bitter cold, but there were times when I would go out with Jenny and play in the snow. I practiced and studied Human language every day whenever I got a free chance, and I visited Nurse Joy every so often. I hadn't exactly made enough progress to have a proper conversation with a human, but I was at least learning. Jenny didn't know about my studies, I intended for it to be a surprise when I was able to speak her language.
I awoke rather late in the morning that day. Jenny was already out of bed, and Tom had already left for work. Seeing as I was alone, and I had no pressing needs, I decided to practice speaking Human again. With Jenny not around, I couldn't study her speech patterns, so I had to rely on memory to practice. I continued my practice until I began to grow hungry.
I padded over to the door of Jenny's room and wedged it open with my nose. I went into the living room, expecting to see Jenny, but she wasn't there. I searched the house, and there was no sign of Jenny. I figured she was just off around town or something. I walked into the kitchen to grab a bite, but was once again disappointed. The only food in sight was out of my reach, a basket of fruit positioned on top of the counter. Not knowing when Jenny would return, I tried to get to it myself. Knowing that I couldn't jump that high, I tried to find something to boost me up there. I figured one of the chairs in the dining room would suffice, so I walked over to one and tried to push it into the kitchen. Unfortunately, the carpet in the dining room wasn't about to let me take it. I pushed it, but only succeeded in tipping it over a bit. Not wanting to have it fall over, I gave up on it. I thought about my situation for a little while, then I saw a small stepladder on the far side of the kitchen that I hadn't noticed before. I approached it, walking around it and carefully pushing it up to the counter. Once I had positioned it, I hopped atop it and prepared myself to make the bigger jump onto the counter. I sprang up, landing rather ungracefully on top of it. I walked over to the basket, my mouth watering in anticipation. I stared into it, trying to decide which fruit to take. I spotted one I didn't recognize and pulled it out. I sat on the counter, savoring my prize, the pale-green fruit having a rather sweet taste to it. I finished eating it down to the core, which I took and dropped into the trash can near the counter. I walked back over to the basket and laid down. I was a bit concerned. Where was Jenny? My question was answered fairly quickly. I heard the door open and walked to the edge of the counter so I could see who it was.
I saw Jenny walk through the doorway, she seemed to be carrying something inside her coat. I looked down at the floor to make sure there were no obstacles, then leapt down, landing noiselessly on the soft carpet of the dining room. I walked over to her, curious to know what she had. She looked down at me with an expression I'd not seen on her face before. A mixture of fear and worry. She slowly pulled out what she carried from her coat. A small, furry, red creature was in her arms. It appeared to be sleeping, but with Jenny wearing that expression, something more serious was taking place. She quickly crossed the room and proceeded to light a fire, gently laying the red creature on the hearth. Now that I had a clear view, I could see that what she held was a very young, female Vulpix. Can't have been more than a month old. She lay unconscious and nearly frozen. I walked over next to her to better examine her and see if there was anything I could do to help her situation. I was curious about why Jenny brought her here instead of taking her to the Pokemon Center. As if reading my thoughts, she spoke to me.
"Pokemon Center's completely blocked off by snow. We had a terrible snowstorm last night. I found this poor thing passed out just outside town while I was on my way to the store," she explained.
Jenny stood up from the fireplace and walked over to the couch. She sat down, unsure of what to do about the freezing fox. I was worried that the poor girl would die from the ordeal, Vulpix don't fare very well in the cold, or any fire Pokemon for that matter. Sure, they had incredibly high body temperatures, but in the bitter cold it was outside, it didn't matter much. I sat next to the young Vulpix, hoping that perhaps some miracle would happen and she'd be alright. Of course, said miracle didn't occur. Jenny seemed to be worried to the point of incapacitation. She simply sat still on the couch. I knew that the young fox wouldn't last very long without help, so I did one of the craziest things I've ever done in my life. If Jenny couldn't bring the Vulpix to Nurse Joy, I was going to bring Nurse Joy to her.
Lucky for me, Jenny was in far too much of a hurry to properly shut the front door. I darted out into the thick snow, almost blinded by the sheer amount of white. A heavy, freezing wind threatened to blow me off course as I ran full speed towards the Center, occasionally sinking a bit into the snow. I heard Jenny cry out after me, but I couldn't stop. I had to get to Joy before it was too late.
After fighting against the wind for what seemed an eternity, I reached the Pokemon Center. What Jenny said was true. All the entrances were sealed off by the snow, at least all the ones designed for humans to use. There was a window that wasn't blocked along the side wall. I dashed towards it, hoping against hope that there would be someone there. I reached the window and to my horror, saw nothing but darkness within. The entire Center was shut down from the looks of it. I stared into the darkness, almost ready to give up hope, when I heard footsteps behind me. I quickly turned and saw Joy standing before me in a heavy parka with a red cross on it.
"Little cold for you to just be out running around, Gamma. Come on, let's get you back home to Jenny," she said warmly. She reached down and lifted me easily off the snowbank I'd been standing on and brushed the snow from my fur. I shivered slightly at the cold touch. Joy pulled something from her pocket and offered it to me. It looked like some kind of candy. I gratefully took it from her and to my surprise I soon felt a wave of warmth wash over me.
She carried me all the way back to Jenny's house. I explained the situation with the Vulpix to her. She looked very concerned after hearing the story. We arrived back at the house quickly, Joy was in a rush to get to the freezing fox. She knocked, but there was no answer. She knocked once more, but again, no response.
"Hey! Who are you?" I heard a voice from behind us. Joy swiveled around and was face to face with Jenny. "Nurse Joy! Oh, thank goodness you found him. I looked all over for him."
"Now's not the time to worry about that. He told me about that Vulpix you found."
"Yeah, she's inside. I lit a fire to keep her warm, but I don't know if it's just too little, too late."
She walked over to the door and opened it. The two of them scrambled inside and I leapt out of Joy's arms and rushed over to the fireplace. The poor fox was still out cold, pardon the pun, and she wasn't looking any better. Joy walked over to and examined her. She removed her parka, wrapped it around the Vulpix and pushed her closer to the fire.
"There's not much more I can do with her unconscious," Joy said, standing up. "We'll just have to hope she comes around."
The weather from the night before had apparently not finished. A sudden snowfall was visible through the window, coming down heavily.
"Oh no. Nurse Joy, another storm's starting," Jenny informed the nurse. Joy sighed at those words. "I wouldn't want you to have to go back out in that. Why don't you stay here until it passes?"
"Oh, thank you, Jenny," Joy replied graciously. "There's no telling when this will end, but it will allow me to monitor that Vulpix to make sure her condition doesn't worsen."
"Okay, I'll show you to the guest room."
Jenny led her to a door near the kitchen and opened it, revealing a short hallway which ended in a bedroom. I followed curiously, having never seen this room before. The carpet was a blue color as opposed to the lavender in the rest of the house. The bed was a bit higher than Jenny's, the light blue coverings hanging over the sides. Aside from the blue color, this room was almost identical to Jenny's. Jenny and I left the room, letting Joy get acquainted with it.
"Oh, Gamma! I left you alone all this time, you must be starving. Let me get you something," Jenny said suddenly. She didn't realize I had already fed myself, at least not yet. She walked into the kitchen and saw the stepladder against the counter. "Gamma? Did you put that there?" she asked in disbelief. I simply nodded to her.
"Wow, I suppose you already ate then?" Again, I nodded. "You're a very smart little Pokemon, Gamma. I'm impressed."
Hours passed as we sat in the living room, keeping watch over the Vulpix. Joy had extracted some of her tools from the coat she had wrapped around the small fox. Every so often, Nurse Joy would inspect her to make sure her condition wasn't deteriorating. Night fell, and the fox had still not awaken. Joy checked her one last time before she went to bed, noting her body temperature on a small pad of paper. She walked into the guest bedroom and closed the door. I crept over to the fireplace and laid down next to the Vulpix. The heat from the fire quickly made me drowsy and I soon succumbed to it.
*Yawn* I'm about to fall asleep, so I'm going to leave off there. Good night.
