Bunny Love by XD385

A Bond formed from Loss

"So, you hungry?" Ash asked his little friend, Freya. The little Buneary yawned as she looked around the cabin. She had a most unusual dream about her and Ash. She was certain that her dream would involve Pikachu, but her crush was nowhere to be seen. Instead, she was with Ash. Even so, she did not dislike the dream, as he had saved her from drowning after she was blown overboard last night.

"You sure slept late. I'm surprised Dawn hasn't come to pick you up yet. So, whatcha want for breakfast? We've got quite a few leftovers!" Ash grinned as he checked the refrigerator. Freya remembered the feast from last night. It was too much to eat in one sitting and they had to stash away the rest.

"BRRRRAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!! Man, that was great!" Ash sighed as he patted his belly. Freya did the same as she was stuffed. "OK, we should reach Slateport city in two days. Maybe we'll see May there. I wonder how her Blaziken's doing." Just then, they heard a barely audible knock at the door. "Huh?" A moment later, the knock was heard again, this time a little louder. "OK, I'm coming."

When Ash opened the door, he found Dawn standing there in tears. "What happened to you? And where's Pikachu?" Freya overheard and bounded over to Ash's side. She already had a bad feeling by the sight of her Trainer's face. Dawn sobbed, "I'm sorry...I....." Ash was worried and asked, "What are you sorry for? Did something happen to Pikachu?" Dawn did not want Ash to hate her, but she knew he had the right to know. Gathering her courage, Dawn took a deep breath and cried, "I'm sorry... Pikachu drowned....."

Ash and Freya stared dumbfounded at Dawn. Did they here that right? "He...he's dead?! How?!" Dawn tried her best to explain, "It all happened so fast... We went up on deck late last night. He was riding my shoulder, just like the way he did with you..... We were looking over the railing when a wave crashed into the other side of the ship. I was thrown off balance and Pikachu fell overboard... I'm so sorry... I should've been more careful!" Dawn burst into tears again.

Ash felt tears building up in his eyes as he played Dawn's words over in his head. His best friend was gone. After only two years together, Ash had lost his most trusted companion. "No way... Pikachu!" Ash barged right past Dawn and ran up on deck. He ran up the stern to the railing and yelled out, "PIKACHU!!!" His gaze scanned the horizon, but saw no sign of his friend. "Please... We've come so far together... Don't go!" Ash dropped to his knees and sobbed. If he had been with Dawn at the time, he could have saved his friend.

In Ash's cabin, Freya had stayed behind while Dawn returned to her own cabin. The news of Pikachu's death hit her hard. She wept while hiding under the bed, "No, this can't be real! I loved you, Pikachu! I wanted us to become mates someday! How could you leave me?!" The little Buneary sobbed into her fluffy white fur. The love of her life was gone forever.

After a few minutes of grief, Freya heard the door to the cabin close, followed by the sound of someone collapsing onto the bed. Curious, she crawled out from under it and hopped onto the bed. She saw Ash laying face down with his face buried in his arms. As she listened to him cry, Freya understood just how much Pikachu meant to him. It was as if he had lost a part of himself. She even noticed just how much he reminded her of Pikachu. It was as if he was a human version of him.

Freya crawled over to the weeping Trainer and patted him on the shoulder. "I said I want to be alone, Dawn." Freya tried again. This time Ash looked up and said, "I said...huh?" Freya saw the sorry state Ash's face was in. His eyes looked burned out from just how much he was crying. "Freya.....you too?" Ash saw the fluffy fur covering the lower half of her body had been completely soaked with her tears. Suddenly, she could not hold out any longer and collapsed into Ash's arms.

"You really miss him too, huh?" Ash whispered as he cuddled the weeping Buneary. "Yeah, now I remember. You were always flirting with him, right?" Freya's face went red with embarrassment as she looked up at Ash. Though still exhausted from sorrow, he had begun to smile. "No wonder you miss him so much. You must've really loved him." Freya weakly nodded. "I thought so. I think he didn't think the same way though." Freya stopped crying for just a second, but surprised Ash with what sounded like a small laugh.

"Yeah, we had all sorts of odd stuff happen. I'm pretty sure he zapped me over 100 times by accident! I also remember just how much he liked ketchup. He would even carry around a bottle of the stuff." Freya had completely stopped crying and could not stop laughing. "Now that I think about it, he was a lot like me. We did everything together. We weren't always that close. I'm sure he zapped me five times on our first day. Still, it was all worth it. I probably wouldn't have gotten this far without him." Freya stopped crying at that last bit.

"I don't know if I can go on as a Trainer without him. Pikachu always managed to cheer me up in rough times. I still want to be the best Pokemon Master of all time, but it seems like an empty dream now. I don't think I have it in me to see it through to the end....." Ash's mood had dropped to a new low as he explained how his life felt so empty without his best friend.

As Freya listened to Ash describe his innermost feelings, something crossed her mind that had not done so before. If he felt that his career as a Trainer was meaningless without Pikachu, would he leave her and Dawn as soon as they reached Hoenn? She recalled just how tender and caring he was to her last night. He even risked his life to save her from drowning even though he was not her Trainer.

Ash looked up and noticed that Freya seemed lost in thought. "Freya? I know its hard losing him, but I can at least try to fill the gap in your heart. That is, until I go home after we reach land." This confirmed Freya's fears. In desperation, the little Buneary leapt at Ash and cried out in her native tongue, "No, don't leave me! I know Pikachu's gone, but I don't want to lose you too! Please stay!" Naturally, Ash had no way of understanding what she was saying, but he could tell that she seemed upset about something that involved him.

"Freya... Do you just want to stay with me for a while?" The Buneary nodded while clutching his shirt tightly. "OK. I'm gonna take a nap right now. You tired too?" Ash held up the covers for his little friend. Freya felt burned out from all her crying and rested her head on the pillow. "OK. Let's get some rest." Ash closed his eyes while holding the little rabbit to his chest. Freya did not mind this. She even felt more relaxed and secure. Thankful that there was someone who understood her pain, she fell asleep in the hands of possibly her closest friend.

That evening, Ash awoke to the sound of knocking at the door. "Huh? What time is it?" He lazily rolled out of bed. Freya was awakened by the shifting movement and looked around dozily. When Ash opened the door, they were both surprised to see Dawn standing there with a Poke Ball in hand. She still seemed down on herself, but she had stopped crying.

"Dawn, are you still upset?" Dawn remained silent for a moment. "Don't beat yourself up. Pikachu wouldn't want us to be moping around forever." This seemed to cheer her up slightly, but Dawn replied, "I know that. I just wanted to give you something." She then held out the Poke Ball. "I know it's not a fair trade, but I want you to be Freya's Trainer."

Freya gasped as Dawn offered Ash to be her Trainer. As much as she liked the idea, she knew it was Ash's decision. "Sorry, but I can't. How will you be a Coordinator if you don't have a Pokemon?" Dawn then surprised them both with a smile. "To be honest, Freya is first Pokemon I ever caught, but is only the second I've ever owned!" She then pulled out another Poke Ball. "THIS is my first." With a flash, Dawn released the Pokemon inside. Soon, a small blue penguin like creature stood before them.

"Huh? What's this?" Dawn smartly replied, "Why don't you check your Pokedex?" Ash grunted and pulled it out. "Piplup. The Penguin Pokemon. It lives along shores in northern countries. A skillful swimmer, it dives for over ten minutes to hunt." Ash put away his Pokedex and asked, "So, Piplup was your first Pokemon?" Dawn nodded, "Yup! We've been through a lot already. I was even planning on entering him first in the contests. So you see, it's OK if Freya belongs to you. Just promise me you'll take good care of her." Ash looked back at the little Buneary to see her give a very happy cheer. Taking Freya's Poke Ball in hand, he smiled, "I promise."

A little later, Ash was introducing Cyndaquil and Totodile to Freya. "Her name's Freya and she's gonna be with us from now on. Since she's a girl, you guys better be nice to her!" The two Pokemon understood and gave the Buneary a hearty greeting. Freya waved shyly at the two boys as their Trainer watched over them. They seemed to be getting along already.

As everyone was having dinner in Ash's cabin, including Dawn, Totodile brought up a question. "So, Pikachu's gone? Doesn't seem right for Ash to be a Trainer without him." Freya sighed, "Yeah. I'll miss him. I really liked him." Cyndaquil then added, "But I'm sure Ash is a nice match for you. If you ask me, he and Pikachu were identical in personality and tastes. If you liked Pikachu, I'm sure you'll grow to like Ash too." Freya looked up at Ash, who was seated at the table, and sighed, "I noticed. He's different, but he still reminds me of Pikachu."

As everyone had dessert, Totodile asked, "Hey Freya, do you, uh, really like Ash?" The Buneary gave the Water type a puzzled look. "I mean, do you like him enough to mate with him?" Freya blushed, "What?! No! I mean... I've only known him for one day. It's not like it was love at first sight!" He laughed, "Yeah, you've got a point. Well, just as a friendly warning, I think it would be best that you DON'T go that far. He has a Bayleef at home who's madly in love with him. If she were to find out that another girl has got the hots for him, she...well...actually, I don't wanna know what she'd do." Totodile sweated a little as he munched on an ice cream sandwich.

Freya pondered Totodile's words as she enjoyed some carrot cake. Ash definitely was a nice person. He was caring enough to her to risk his life for her. Still, she did not want to put the moves on him if it meant dealing with a jealous Bayleef. Heck, she did not even know what a Bayleef looks like. But judging by Totodile's reaction, Bayleef sounded like a very powerful and fearsome creature. Even so, maybe she would never meet this Bayleef.

That night, Ash took Freya up on deck again to enjoy the cool night air. Once again, Freya felt very romantic as the stars in the sky twinkled. "I'm not gonna let you fall overboard this time, no matter what!" Ash bolded spoke as he held Freya in his arms. "With you in my arms, there's no way the wind will take you away." Freya giggled that Ash was being so careful this time. He was the kind of person who learned from his mistakes. And he learned well.

"I guess it can get boring out in the middle of the ocean with nowhere to go. But there's no way around it. Once we get to Hoenn, we're gonna take a nice long day off." Freya was liking her new Trainer more and more. He seemed to be very concerned for her. The thought of him being a possible mate began to seem more believable. "Maybe he would be a good mate after all."

As Ash strolled along the deck, Freya gazed skyward at the stars. She even began to connect the stars just for the fun of it. She saw many forms. She saw herself wearing Ash's hat. She even saw herself holding hands with Pikachu. She even saw an Onix, a carrot, and even a flock of birds of varying sizes. However, she soon spotted a very large picture that covered a good field of her vision.

"That's Ash, but is that.....me?" Freya saw Ash holding hands with what seemed to be a much taller version of herself. But there were some key differences. The legs were longer and slender with tiny feet. The fluffy fur around her waist was gone and seemed to have moved up and around the wrists. The ears were much longer and even reached the hips. It had very long eyebrows that stuck straight up. She knew immediately that the form Ash was next to was not a Buneary. Could be an evolved form?

After a good 30 minutes of strolling about above deck, Ash carried Freya back to his cabin. "Since Pikachu never wanted to stay in his Poke Ball, I won't make you either." Freya liked the idea of being outside at all times. He was a Trainer that was different from the rest.

As the two of them bathed, Freya was enjoying having her fur scrubbed by her Trainer. She let him know through pleasured chirps. "I take it you like that? How about now?" Ash sped up his fingers, producing more and more lather. Soon, Freya was covered in bubbles. "Mom would think you're so cute. I can't wait to introduce you to her someday."

Once the two were bathed and dried, Ash carried his new friend to bed and covered them both before turning out the lamp. "You comfy, Freya?" However, Freya decided that it was the right time and gave Ash and unexpected surprise. She pressed her lips against his. Since he couldn't see, Ash was completely oblivious to just what was happening.

As she pressed into the kiss, Freya became increasingly lustful. She could feel moisture building somewhere inside her fur between her legs. Still, she knew better than to go too far too quickly. She had only just met Ash and did not want to risk their relationship. Still, she was not afraid of testing Ash's feelings.

Ash felt something wet and warm stroke his lips. Curious, he opened his mouth slightly and reached out his tongue. He shuddered as he felt something just as wet touch his tongue and swirl around it. Though strange, Ash found it surprisingly enjoyable. He replied in kind by dancing his tongue around the other. Soon, he could taste a faint trace of carrot cake. (What the...Freya?)

Freya noticed that Ash was beginning to catch on and broke the kiss. Ash felt his saliva and that of his 'lover' fall against his chin. Still, he wasn't all that bothered by it and reached out and patted Freya on the head. "I don't know what that was, but I liked it. Thanks, Freya. Goodnight." Ash then held his little friend close as he drifted off to sleep.

Freya just lied there thinking as she felt Ash holding her. She began to think of Pikachu and compared him to Ash. After a moment of pondering, she closed her eyes and whispered, "I'm very sorry, Pikachu. I've met someone who I love more."
