Story Notes:
A short story I wrote for a member of this site. I might do a redone version of this later, since it's not exactly my best work yet. It's pretty good as is, but it could be better, which I'll be sure to fix one of these days.
Tragedy Brings Love
Well, here's a request that someone on this site proposed. I hope you all like it, as this is probably the longest chapter I've created thus far. As for this story, it takes place during the episode where Dawn has her first Pokémon contest. But, I couldn't find out the dub name for Dawn's rival in contests, so I left her name as Nozomi. Anyway, enough chatter, let's get to the story!

"All right, everyone. It's time for the semi-finals to begin, with our first match between Dawn and Nozomi." Marion, the contest MC said to the audience. After winning each of their first matches, Nozomi and Dawn made it to the semi-finals of the Pokémon Contest. They walked out onto the stage to their respective sides of the battle arena. They were about to face off against each other, to see who would make it to the finals and win the contest. "Let the battle begin!" Marion said out loud. The timer of five minutes started counting down.
"Piplup, I choose you!" Dawn said, releasing her Piplup from her Pokéball. Piplup's Pokéball had an entrance sticker that generates bubbles, so Piplup appeared with bubbles surrounding her as she made her entrance.
"Glameow, I choose you!" Nozomi said, releasing her Glameow from her Pokéball. Glameow's Pokéball had an entrance sticker that generates rose petals, so Glameow appeared with rose petals surrounding her as she made her entrance.
"Piplup, use Bubblebeam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup opened her mouth and started releasing many bubbles at Glameow.
"Glameow, dodge and use Shadow Claw!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow jumped out of the way of the bubbles and her paws started glowing a dark color, preparing for a Shadow Claw attack. She then moved forward and hit Piplup in the chest with her Shadow Claw attack.
"And Glameow strikes the first blow with its Shadow Claw attack." Marion said to the audience. Then, Dawn's points decreased slightly from the hit her Piplup took.
"Piplup, use Peck!" Dawn ordered. Piplup's beak started flashing and then grew longer. Piplup started charging toward Glameow, preparing to hit her with her Peck attack.
"Glameow, dodge!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow started backing away, dodging Piplup's barrage of Peck attacks. "Now use Iron Tail!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow jumped back and her tail started flashing, preparing to launch an Iron Tail against Piplup. Glameow started charging forward, to launch the attack wagered against Piplup.
"Piplup, dodge!" Dawn ordered. Piplup started to back away from Glameow, but it was too late. When Glameow got close enough to Piplup, she hit Piplup in the side with her Iron Tail attack. Piplup fell down to the ground, but then started to get back up.
"What speed! Using a series of dodges, then charging forward for an Iron Tail attack!" Marion exclaimed. Dawn's points started decreasing again from the hit that her Piplup had taken.
"Piplup, use Pound!" Dawn ordered. Piplup started running forward, pounding at Glameow with her paws repeatedly. Glameow started backing away, from being hit by the series of Pound attacks.
"And Piplup comes back hard using its Pound attack. Glameow's points are taking a hit." Marion said. Nozomi's points started decreasing slightly each time her Glameow was hit by the Pound attack.
"Glameow, use Faint Attack!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow smiled, before she disappeared into thin air. Piplup looked around her, searching for where her enemy could be hiding. Then, without warning, she was struck in the side by Glameow's body running into her.
"Impressive! Using an offensive attack for both offense and defense. What a technique!" Marion exclaimed to the audience. Dawn's points started decreasing again, but her eyes were focused on her Piplup that had trouble getting up.
"Piplup? Can you get up?" Dawn asked her Pokémon. Her Piplup started pushing against the ground, trying her best to get back on her feet. Then, she stood up on her legs and looked toward her trainer. "Can you keep going?" She asked. Her Piplup nodded her head at Dawn's question and turned to face Glameow. "Then, use Bubblebeam!" Dawn ordered.
Piplup started releasing many bubbles from her mouth, just like before. Seeing this, Nozomi smirked and calmly replied. "Glameow, use Fury Swipes." She said. Her Glameow's paws started flashing and then, she started scratching at the bubbles repeatedly so they wouldn't hit her. Piplup just looked on in shock at what had happened to her attack. There was about a minute left on the clock.
"Glameow uses its Fury Swipes attack to stop the Bubblebeam. With a minute left to go, can Dawn find a way to come back?" Marion asked the crowd. Dawn's points were decreasing again, from her attack being blocked by the Fury Swipes. She had a look on her face like she was unsure of what to do.
"Glameow, use Fury Swipes!" Nozomi's order quickly brought Dawn back from her thoughts as she saw Glameow running towards Piplup. Glameow's paws started glowing, preparing to launch the attack against her Piplup.
"Piplup, jump into the air!" Dawn shouted at her Piplup. Piplup did as her trainer had ordered, jumping into the air above Glameow and turning to face the Pokémon below her. "Now spin around and use Bubblebeam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup started spinning around as Dawn told her to and released bubbles from her mouth once again, watching them fall down and explode upon hitting Glameow.
"An awesome dodge, then a counterattack spinning around using Bubblebeam. And with that, Nozomi's points take a hit once again." Marion said to the audience. Nozomi's points started dropping again from the Bubblebeam attack her Glameow took, but her points were still higher than Dawn's.
"Piplup, use Peck!" Dawn ordered. Piplup's beak started flashing again as it grew longer. Then, she charged forward toward Glameow.
"Glameow, use Iron Tail!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow's tail started flashing, preparing to do an Iron Tail attack. She ran forward toward Piplup to hit her. Piplup and Glameow were on a collision course toward each other, but neither one of their trainers said a word as they didn't want their Pokémon to stop in the middle of their attack.
Then, at the last second, Glameow jumped out of the way of Piplup's Peck attack and launched her tail at Piplup's side, scoring a direct hit with her Iron Tail attack. Piplup fell down to the ground again and tried her best to get up. But, while she was doing this, the timer ran out and the battle was over.
"Time is up! So who will go on to the finals?" Marion asked out loud. She looked up toward the scoreboard and noticed that Nozomi's points were higher than Dawn's. "Nozomi and Glameow will go on to the final round of competition! Let's give them a big round of applause!" Marion exclaimed. Then, the crowd started cheering for Nozomi and Glameow, since they were the winners.
Dawn was looking at her Piplup, smiling at her. "You did a great job. We'll beat them next time." Dawn said, smiling to her Piplup. Then, she directed her eyes upward and saw Nozomi walking over to her and her Piplup.
"You did a great job. I'm impressed you made it this far in your first contest. I'm sure you'll do better next time." Nozomi said, smiling at Dawn. Then, she put out her hand to Dawn, so she could shake hands with her opponent. Dawn put out her hand and grabbed Nozomi's, shaking it.
"Thanks. I look forward to the next time we battle each other." Dawn replied, smiling back. Piplup was looking at Glameow as well, smiling at her.
"Well, that was a good battle. I look forward to an even better one next time." Piplup said, smiling at Glameow. However, Glameow turned her head and chuckled lowly.
"Are you kidding me? That was pathetic. You barely did anything to me." Glameow said. Piplup turned her head to the side in confusion.
"What are you talking about? I thought it was a good battle." Piplup replied in confusion. Glameow turned her head back to face Piplup.
"Well, I know from my trainer, that your trainer is the daughter of the legendary coordinator, Johanna. And as the Pokémon of the daughter of the legendary coordinator, I expected more of a fight from you. You're nothing but an embarrassment to your trainer." Glameow said, smirking at Piplup.
"Let's go, Piplup." Dawn said, breaking Piplup up from her conversation with Glameow. She nodded to her trainer's words and started walking off the stage with her. They walked back to the waiting area, where Ash and Brock were waiting for them. "Hey, guys." She said.
"Hey, Dawn. You did a great job out there. You should be proud of yourself." Ash said, smiling at her.
"Thanks, Ash. This was my first contest, though I plan to do better in my next one!" Dawn replied, smiling back at him.
"That's the spirit! Never give up!" Brock said. Then, Pikachu started walking over to Piplup.
"Hey, great job out there. You should be proud of yourself." Pikachu said, smiling at her.
"Thanks." Piplup said sadly. At this, Pikachu's face changed into a confused look.
"Is something wrong?" Pikachu asked. He was certain Piplup was feeling a bit down about something, but he did not know what it was.
"Well, it's something Glameow said to me." Piplup said sadly. Pikachu looked at her with a curious expression.
"What did Glameow say to you?" Pikachu asked. He was certain he wouldn't like to hear what Piplup was going to say, but he still wanted to know.
"She said I'm an embarrassment to my trainer and I think she's right. If it wasn't for me, Dawn probably would've won that contest." Piplup said softly. Pikachu didn't like seeing her like this. He didn't want her to feel sorry for herself, she did the best she could and that's all Dawn ever asked of her.
"Come with me." Pikachu said. He grabbed Piplup's paw and started leading her toward the door that led to the area outside of the waiting room. "Ash?" Pikachu said, drawing his trainer's attention toward him. He knew his trainer did not understand him, but his voice did its job. "Can we go outside for a little bit?" Pikachu said, pointing to the area outside with his paw.
"Sure Pikachu. You can go outside, but don't wander off too far. Come back when you're done." Ash said, smiling to his Pikachu. He knew his Pikachu was strong, but he still didn't want him to wander off too far on his own. Pikachu, still holding Piplup's paw in his hand, started walking with her outside of the room, down the hall, and then walked out of the contest building.
They kept walking around the building, until they had reached the other side. Piplup had a confused look on her face, wondering why she was brought here. She looked towards Pikachu and saw he had a smile on his face.
"Why'd you bring me here?" Piplup asked Pikachu. She was wondering why he had brought her out here.
"To try to cheer you up. Why do you suddenly feel this way just because of something your opponent said?" Pikachu asked. He really didn't know why Piplup would question herself just because of one thing her opponent had said.
"Because as I said, I feel she's right. You know my trainer's the daughter of a famous Coordinator, don't you?" Piplup asked. Pikachu looked at her with a curious expression, wondering why she had said something like that.
"Yes, but what's that got to do with anything?" Pikachu asked. He really didn't know what Piplup was doing. Was she saying that because Dawn's mother is a famous Coordinator, that she should be good like her? But Pikachu didn't think that she would ever compare herself to anyone else.
"Well, I feel that since Dawn's mother is a really good Coordinator, that I should be good at it as well. But, today proved that I'm not as good as I should be." Piplup replied sadly. She looked toward Pikachu to see that he still had a curious expression on his face.
"But, you can't expect to be good at something, just because Dawn's mother is. You've just started in Pokémon contests, so it'll take some time before you become good at it. I know it's taken me a while to become as good as I am in battles." Pikachu said. He looked toward Piplup and saw that she still wasn't cheering up.
"Well, that may be true, but I should still have a natural talent for it. Dawn doesn't deserve a Pokémon like me." Piplup replied sadly. She now had a sad look on her face that she was sure Pikachu could see. He looked toward her with a questioning look.
"What are you saying?" Pikachu asked fearfully. He was worried about what Piplup would say back to him, yet he still wanted to know.
"I'm saying that maybe it's for the best if I just leave. I know Dawn will be upset, but eventually, she'll get over it. Plus, she has Buneary, so she won't be alone." Piplup replied sadly. She looked toward Pikachu and saw that he had a shocked expression on his face.
"But that's crazy! Why should you have to leave, just because of losing your first contest? It doesn't make sense!" Pikachu exclaimed. He couldn't believe that Piplup was feeling like she was currently.
"It's because I'm nothing but a weakling. A pathetic loser, a nobody..." Piplup trailed off. Then, she started crying softly because she couldn't hold back her tears any longer. She didn't care anymore, she just wanted to let her feelings out.
Pikachu stood there in shock. He couldn't believe Piplup was crying and feeling sorry for herself. He didn't want to see her like this, so he quickly thought of how to cheer her up. Then, an idea popped into his head and he walked over to her. He placed his paw on her head and turned it toward his.
"You're not a loser. You're a very unique Pokémon." Pikachu said smiling. He could see that Piplup had stopped crying momentarily at his words. He wiped the tears off of her face with his paws. He could see that she had a confused look on her face.
"How do you know that? What makes you so sure?" Piplup asked curiously. She didn't know why Pikachu had said those things to her, unless it was just to cheer her up.
"Because I wouldn't have fallen in love with a loser." Pikachu said smiling. He looked at Piplup, who was staring at him with a confused expression. She looked away, blinked once, and then looked at him again.
"You love me?" Piplup asked. She saw Pikachu answer her with a nod. She couldn't believe that he was in love with her, but was wondering how and when this happened. She was brought out of her thoughts by him speaking.
"Yes, I do. You're so kind, caring, and helpful that I can't help but love you. I've loved you ever since we first became friends after we first met." Pikachu said chuckling. He thought back to when they first met, when Dawn was just starting out and she had ordered Piplup to battle Pikachu.
"Yeah, sorry about that. I was only doing what Dawn ordered me to." Piplup said, chuckling as well. She smiled as she remembered that memory as well.
"It's no problem. I understand you were only doing what you were told to. But, I have a question for you. Do you love me too?" Pikachu asked seriously. He was afraid to hear the answer, for fear of having his heart possibly broken. But, he figured he would be able to get over it.
Piplup stood there quietly, thinking about Pikachu's question. Did she love him or did she just consider him a friend? She thought back on all the moments they spent together with each other. She enjoyed his company, was impressed with his battle skill, and liked that he protected his friends at any cost. She smiled as she realized her answer.
"Well, what's your answer?" Pikachu asked curiously. He looked at Piplup and saw that she was smiling. He knew her answer, but was still excited when he heard her talk.
"Yes, I've realized that I love you too. You're so friendly, strong, and protective that I can't help but love you as well." Piplup said, smiling at Pikachu. Then, she moved her beak towards his face and pushed it against his lips, kissing him. She stood there, enjoying the feeling of her first kiss with her love.
Pikachu stood there in shock, amazed at what he was experiencing. After a second, he began to respond, experiencing his first kiss with his love. Then, he pushed his tongue out against Piplup's beak, trying to push it into her mouth. She understood and let her beak open to meet his tongue with her own. "You're welcome." Piplup replied smiling. Then, she had an idea that came to her mind. "Pikachu? Can I ask you a favor?" Piplup asked.
"Um, sure I guess. What is it?" Pikachu asked. He wondered what Piplup's favor could be. He had an idea what she wanted, but he didn't want to assume anything.
"Will you mate with me?" Piplup asked. She saw that Pikachu was pondering over her question, but he looked like he wanted to.
"You want me to mate with you? Are you sure you want this? I don't want to do anything we'll regret later on." Pikachu replied. He knew he loved Piplup and she loved him, but he didn't want to ruin things with her by doing something so fast.

"We should get back to the others. They must be worried about us." Piplup said. Pikachu nodded to her question, as he knew they must be worried as well. They started walking back toward the other side of the contest building, until they reached the entrance. They walked in and noticed their trainers sitting on a bench near the entrance.
"Pikachu!" Ash exclaimed, smiling as he saw his Pikachu back at last.
"Piplup!" Dawn exclaimed, smiling as she saw her Piplup was back as well.
"What took you guys so long?" Ash asked, wondering what the two Pokémon were up to. He noticed that Pikachu and Piplup looked at each other and smiled. Then, they turned back to face him. They both laughed as they looked at them and responded.
"Oh, nothing much." Pikachu said, knowing that his trainer couldn't understand him. Then, he put his paws around Piplup's body, hugging her close to him.
"Aw, isn't that cute? Looks like our Pokémon have gotten close while they were gone, Ash." Dawn said happily.
"Yeah, looks like it Dawn." Ash replied. Then, he heard someone walk up behind him, so he turned around and saw Brock walking up behind him.
"Well, looks like Pikachu and Piplup are back finally. So, are we ready to continue our journey now?" Brock asked, looking at his friends.
"Yeah, I'm ready!" Ash exclaimed.
"Me too! I'm going to train even harder and we'll win the next contest! Right, Piplup?" Dawn asked. She looked toward her Piplup and saw her nod at the question.
"All right, then let's go!" Brock said, walking out the door alongside his friends. Pikachu and Piplup were walking alongside each other as well. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
"What was that for?" Pikachu asked slyly. He turned to look at Piplup and saw her grin at him.
"Just felt like it. I'm hoping that we'll be together forever." Piplup replied. She saw Pikachu smiling at her.
"I'm sure we will. I won't ever leave you and that's a promise, Piplup." Pikachu said.

"Glameow, I choose you!" Nozomi said, releasing her Glameow from her Pokéball. Glameow's Pokéball had an entrance sticker that generates rose petals, so Glameow appeared with rose petals surrounding her as she made her entrance.
"Piplup, use Bubblebeam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup opened her mouth and started releasing many bubbles at Glameow.
"Glameow, dodge and use Shadow Claw!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow jumped out of the way of the bubbles and her paws started glowing a dark color, preparing for a Shadow Claw attack. She then moved forward and hit Piplup in the chest with her Shadow Claw attack.
"And Glameow strikes the first blow with its Shadow Claw attack." Marion said to the audience. Then, Dawn's points decreased slightly from the hit her Piplup took.
"Piplup, use Peck!" Dawn ordered. Piplup's beak started flashing and then grew longer. Piplup started charging toward Glameow, preparing to hit her with her Peck attack.
"Glameow, dodge!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow started backing away, dodging Piplup's barrage of Peck attacks. "Now use Iron Tail!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow jumped back and her tail started flashing, preparing to launch an Iron Tail against Piplup. Glameow started charging forward, to launch the attack wagered against Piplup.
"Piplup, dodge!" Dawn ordered. Piplup started to back away from Glameow, but it was too late. When Glameow got close enough to Piplup, she hit Piplup in the side with her Iron Tail attack. Piplup fell down to the ground, but then started to get back up.
"What speed! Using a series of dodges, then charging forward for an Iron Tail attack!" Marion exclaimed. Dawn's points started decreasing again from the hit that her Piplup had taken.
"Piplup, use Pound!" Dawn ordered. Piplup started running forward, pounding at Glameow with her paws repeatedly. Glameow started backing away, from being hit by the series of Pound attacks.
"And Piplup comes back hard using its Pound attack. Glameow's points are taking a hit." Marion said. Nozomi's points started decreasing slightly each time her Glameow was hit by the Pound attack.
"Glameow, use Faint Attack!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow smiled, before she disappeared into thin air. Piplup looked around her, searching for where her enemy could be hiding. Then, without warning, she was struck in the side by Glameow's body running into her.
"Impressive! Using an offensive attack for both offense and defense. What a technique!" Marion exclaimed to the audience. Dawn's points started decreasing again, but her eyes were focused on her Piplup that had trouble getting up.
"Piplup? Can you get up?" Dawn asked her Pokémon. Her Piplup started pushing against the ground, trying her best to get back on her feet. Then, she stood up on her legs and looked toward her trainer. "Can you keep going?" She asked. Her Piplup nodded her head at Dawn's question and turned to face Glameow. "Then, use Bubblebeam!" Dawn ordered.
Piplup started releasing many bubbles from her mouth, just like before. Seeing this, Nozomi smirked and calmly replied. "Glameow, use Fury Swipes." She said. Her Glameow's paws started flashing and then, she started scratching at the bubbles repeatedly so they wouldn't hit her. Piplup just looked on in shock at what had happened to her attack. There was about a minute left on the clock.
"Glameow uses its Fury Swipes attack to stop the Bubblebeam. With a minute left to go, can Dawn find a way to come back?" Marion asked the crowd. Dawn's points were decreasing again, from her attack being blocked by the Fury Swipes. She had a look on her face like she was unsure of what to do.
"Glameow, use Fury Swipes!" Nozomi's order quickly brought Dawn back from her thoughts as she saw Glameow running towards Piplup. Glameow's paws started glowing, preparing to launch the attack against her Piplup.
"Piplup, jump into the air!" Dawn shouted at her Piplup. Piplup did as her trainer had ordered, jumping into the air above Glameow and turning to face the Pokémon below her. "Now spin around and use Bubblebeam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup started spinning around as Dawn told her to and released bubbles from her mouth once again, watching them fall down and explode upon hitting Glameow.
"An awesome dodge, then a counterattack spinning around using Bubblebeam. And with that, Nozomi's points take a hit once again." Marion said to the audience. Nozomi's points started dropping again from the Bubblebeam attack her Glameow took, but her points were still higher than Dawn's.
"Piplup, use Peck!" Dawn ordered. Piplup's beak started flashing again as it grew longer. Then, she charged forward toward Glameow.
"Glameow, use Iron Tail!" Nozomi ordered. Glameow's tail started flashing, preparing to do an Iron Tail attack. She ran forward toward Piplup to hit her. Piplup and Glameow were on a collision course toward each other, but neither one of their trainers said a word as they didn't want their Pokémon to stop in the middle of their attack.
Then, at the last second, Glameow jumped out of the way of Piplup's Peck attack and launched her tail at Piplup's side, scoring a direct hit with her Iron Tail attack. Piplup fell down to the ground again and tried her best to get up. But, while she was doing this, the timer ran out and the battle was over.
"Time is up! So who will go on to the finals?" Marion asked out loud. She looked up toward the scoreboard and noticed that Nozomi's points were higher than Dawn's. "Nozomi and Glameow will go on to the final round of competition! Let's give them a big round of applause!" Marion exclaimed. Then, the crowd started cheering for Nozomi and Glameow, since they were the winners.
Dawn was looking at her Piplup, smiling at her. "You did a great job. We'll beat them next time." Dawn said, smiling to her Piplup. Then, she directed her eyes upward and saw Nozomi walking over to her and her Piplup.
"You did a great job. I'm impressed you made it this far in your first contest. I'm sure you'll do better next time." Nozomi said, smiling at Dawn. Then, she put out her hand to Dawn, so she could shake hands with her opponent. Dawn put out her hand and grabbed Nozomi's, shaking it.
"Thanks. I look forward to the next time we battle each other." Dawn replied, smiling back. Piplup was looking at Glameow as well, smiling at her.
"Well, that was a good battle. I look forward to an even better one next time." Piplup said, smiling at Glameow. However, Glameow turned her head and chuckled lowly.
"Are you kidding me? That was pathetic. You barely did anything to me." Glameow said. Piplup turned her head to the side in confusion.
"What are you talking about? I thought it was a good battle." Piplup replied in confusion. Glameow turned her head back to face Piplup.
"Well, I know from my trainer, that your trainer is the daughter of the legendary coordinator, Johanna. And as the Pokémon of the daughter of the legendary coordinator, I expected more of a fight from you. You're nothing but an embarrassment to your trainer." Glameow said, smirking at Piplup.
"Let's go, Piplup." Dawn said, breaking Piplup up from her conversation with Glameow. She nodded to her trainer's words and started walking off the stage with her. They walked back to the waiting area, where Ash and Brock were waiting for them. "Hey, guys." She said.
"Hey, Dawn. You did a great job out there. You should be proud of yourself." Ash said, smiling at her.
"Thanks, Ash. This was my first contest, though I plan to do better in my next one!" Dawn replied, smiling back at him.
"That's the spirit! Never give up!" Brock said. Then, Pikachu started walking over to Piplup.
"Hey, great job out there. You should be proud of yourself." Pikachu said, smiling at her.
"Thanks." Piplup said sadly. At this, Pikachu's face changed into a confused look.
"Is something wrong?" Pikachu asked. He was certain Piplup was feeling a bit down about something, but he did not know what it was.
"Well, it's something Glameow said to me." Piplup said sadly. Pikachu looked at her with a curious expression.
"What did Glameow say to you?" Pikachu asked. He was certain he wouldn't like to hear what Piplup was going to say, but he still wanted to know.
"She said I'm an embarrassment to my trainer and I think she's right. If it wasn't for me, Dawn probably would've won that contest." Piplup said softly. Pikachu didn't like seeing her like this. He didn't want her to feel sorry for herself, she did the best she could and that's all Dawn ever asked of her.
"Come with me." Pikachu said. He grabbed Piplup's paw and started leading her toward the door that led to the area outside of the waiting room. "Ash?" Pikachu said, drawing his trainer's attention toward him. He knew his trainer did not understand him, but his voice did its job. "Can we go outside for a little bit?" Pikachu said, pointing to the area outside with his paw.
"Sure Pikachu. You can go outside, but don't wander off too far. Come back when you're done." Ash said, smiling to his Pikachu. He knew his Pikachu was strong, but he still didn't want him to wander off too far on his own. Pikachu, still holding Piplup's paw in his hand, started walking with her outside of the room, down the hall, and then walked out of the contest building.
They kept walking around the building, until they had reached the other side. Piplup had a confused look on her face, wondering why she was brought here. She looked towards Pikachu and saw he had a smile on his face.
"Why'd you bring me here?" Piplup asked Pikachu. She was wondering why he had brought her out here.
"To try to cheer you up. Why do you suddenly feel this way just because of something your opponent said?" Pikachu asked. He really didn't know why Piplup would question herself just because of one thing her opponent had said.
"Because as I said, I feel she's right. You know my trainer's the daughter of a famous Coordinator, don't you?" Piplup asked. Pikachu looked at her with a curious expression, wondering why she had said something like that.
"Yes, but what's that got to do with anything?" Pikachu asked. He really didn't know what Piplup was doing. Was she saying that because Dawn's mother is a famous Coordinator, that she should be good like her? But Pikachu didn't think that she would ever compare herself to anyone else.
"Well, I feel that since Dawn's mother is a really good Coordinator, that I should be good at it as well. But, today proved that I'm not as good as I should be." Piplup replied sadly. She looked toward Pikachu to see that he still had a curious expression on his face.
"But, you can't expect to be good at something, just because Dawn's mother is. You've just started in Pokémon contests, so it'll take some time before you become good at it. I know it's taken me a while to become as good as I am in battles." Pikachu said. He looked toward Piplup and saw that she still wasn't cheering up.
"Well, that may be true, but I should still have a natural talent for it. Dawn doesn't deserve a Pokémon like me." Piplup replied sadly. She now had a sad look on her face that she was sure Pikachu could see. He looked toward her with a questioning look.
"What are you saying?" Pikachu asked fearfully. He was worried about what Piplup would say back to him, yet he still wanted to know.
"I'm saying that maybe it's for the best if I just leave. I know Dawn will be upset, but eventually, she'll get over it. Plus, she has Buneary, so she won't be alone." Piplup replied sadly. She looked toward Pikachu and saw that he had a shocked expression on his face.
"But that's crazy! Why should you have to leave, just because of losing your first contest? It doesn't make sense!" Pikachu exclaimed. He couldn't believe that Piplup was feeling like she was currently.
"It's because I'm nothing but a weakling. A pathetic loser, a nobody..." Piplup trailed off. Then, she started crying softly because she couldn't hold back her tears any longer. She didn't care anymore, she just wanted to let her feelings out.

"How do you know that? What makes you so sure?" Piplup asked curiously. She didn't know why Pikachu had said those things to her, unless it was just to cheer her up.
"Because I wouldn't have fallen in love with a loser." Pikachu said smiling. He looked at Piplup, who was staring at him with a confused expression. She looked away, blinked once, and then looked at him again.
"You love me?" Piplup asked. She saw Pikachu answer her with a nod. She couldn't believe that he was in love with her, but was wondering how and when this happened. She was brought out of her thoughts by him speaking.
"Yes, I do. You're so kind, caring, and helpful that I can't help but love you. I've loved you ever since we first became friends after we first met." Pikachu said chuckling. He thought back to when they first met, when Dawn was just starting out and she had ordered Piplup to battle Pikachu.

"Yes, I've realized that I love you too. You're so friendly, strong, and protective that I can't help but love you as well." Piplup said, smiling at Pikachu. "What took you guys so long?" Ash asked, wondering what the two Pokémon were up to. He noticed that Pikachu and Piplup looked at each other and smiled. Then, they turned back to face him. They both laughed as they looked at them and responded.
"Oh, nothing much." Pikachu said, knowing that his trainer couldn't understand him. Then, he put his paws around Piplup's body, hugging her close to him.
"Aw, isn't that cute? Looks like our Pokémon have gotten close while they were gone, Ash." Dawn said happily.
"Yeah, looks like it Dawn." Ash replied. Then, he heard someone walk up behind him, so he turned around and saw Brock walking up behind him.
"Well, looks like Pikachu and Piplup are back finally. So, are we ready to continue our journey now?" Brock asked, looking at his friends.
"Yeah, I'm ready!" Ash exclaimed.
"Me too! I'm going to train even harder and we'll win the next contest! Right, Piplup?" Dawn asked. She looked toward her Piplup and saw her nod at the question.
"All right, then let's go!" Brock said, walking out the door alongside his friends. Pikachu and Piplup were walking alongside each other as well. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
"What was that for?" Pikachu asked slyly. He turned to look at Piplup and saw her grin at him.
"Just felt like it. I'm hoping that we'll be together forever." Piplup replied. She saw Pikachu smiling at her.
"I'm sure we will. I won't ever leave you and that's a promise, Piplup." Pikachu said.
