Episode 1 - The Outskirts of Slateport City
ANTI-POKEMON: PART 1
Yes, it's true I live in a world where Pokemon are treated as if they are a national threat, we were tossed out of the cities and if we attempted to return, we were captured, tortured, and killed. Like most Pokemon, my dreams and loved ones were destroyed 1 long year ago when the humans began to drive us out of the towns. I knew I would never see my Trainer again.
Most of us were eventually forced underground due to mass extinction, we did not want to take any chances with more deaths, but even so it is incredibly dangerous to even be seen on the surface of Earth anymore, some of us still beg for peace, some are even bold enough to march straight towards human's cities, extending their hand for friendship once again on Earth, the result is death by gunfire.
If you want my honest opinion, I don't think things will ever be the same... the way the humans hate us now can't just be changed with a few peace speeches, no, much more drastic action must be performed, but the thing is, we can't fight back. The humans control everything and we can't even touch them, it all just seems pointless now.
I was travelling through the Hoenn region, I'm a wanderer type of Pokemon, no way I'm going to be cramped underground in Miir Cyraa forever. Anyways, night began to come again and so did the rain, no life to be found on the outside of a cave I happened to run into on my lookout for shelter. I searched for a good place to sleep, I did not even check for any other Pokemon, I just wanted shelter one way or another, even if I had to fight for it. I rested my long, furry Zangoose tail onto the mud behind a large boulder. I figured it was better that I slept in a secluded part of the cave, somewhere where I couldn't be seen by just taking one little glance inside. It was just for my own safety.
I slept peacefully even with the rain pounding against the cave and the ground, the occasional thunder strike woke me up but I fell right back to sleep. I dreamt about the peaceful days so very long ago when I was with my trainer, Cindy, how Cindy and I used to train together, battle together, live together. My eyelids couldn't hold anymore of the water that began to form under my eyes, the warm tears ran down my face, stopped flowing once they reached my chin, I would kill to have those memories once more.
I was startled when I heard another lightning strike, it awoke me from my pleasant dream, I sat there, muttering curses against the storm. That's when I heard a low, pain-filled moan. It sounded like pain but it could have been from pleasure, I had to summon up some kind of curiosity to check out who was making that moan and why, the way I think, it could have been someone dying over there or it could just be mating in process.
Slowly crawling out of my hidden corner, I got down on all 4 of my paws and stealthily moved across the cave's interior, quickly looking around every corner to scan the area. I heard the low moan once more, but this time I was sure it was from a female. My right ear pointed up in alarm when the sound waves bounced off my eardrums.
I finally found her, completely shrouded in the shadows, a young Umbreon, "Miss, do you need help?" I asked, slowly moved towards her, staring at her glowing red eyes and her shiny black pupils, "P-please, can I trust you?" she asked, seeming desperate, "Of course..." I replied, attempting to earn her trust, "Please... get my daughter to safety... I'm..." she cut her sentence short with a loud scream of pain, "What's wrong?!" I panicked, running to her side as she began to cough up blood, "The... the needle, it had poison..." she blankly said, not giving me any clue to what "the needle" was, "What do you mean?" I asked calmly, I backed off in surprise when she looked up at me with rage-filled eyes.
"Take her anywhere that's safe!" she yelled, grabbing her stomach in pain, "No, I'm not going to just leave you like this, I can probably help" I explained, flipping the pained Umbreon around so she lay facing up, "This needle you explained to me about, where did it enter your body?" I asked, searching the Umbreon's black fur for an opening, "Right on my neck..." she said, lifting her right arm and pointing at the exact puncture location. I quickly observed it, trying to figure out what this poison was. Suddenly she began to jerk around, like she was having a seizure, "Stay calm!" I yelled, lifting my arms away from her, she finally let out a long, sustained yell of pain. It was like nothing I've ever heard, her voice pierced through my eardrums like a knife. I covered both sides of my head with my paws, I really did not know what to do, I couldn't take out the poison at this time. The poison has most likely spread out through her veins by now.
The Umbreon grabbed onto my arm and pulled me towards her, "Stop wasting your time on me! You need to get out of here before the humans come!" she finally yelled out, "You're being followed?!" I yelled out in fear, having a failed attempt in breaking free of her hold, "Yes, please... just... get out of here..." she whispered, her paw finally let go of my arm and hit the ground, her eyes closed shut, she was fighting for her life... and she lost.
I didn't know what to do, I just stared at her until I saw an Eevee slowly crawl out from behind the Umbreon, rubbing her eyes, she must have been asleep the entire time, "Mommy?" she asked in a squeaky voice, grabbing her mother's arm and flailing it around, "Mommy, wake up" she whispered. All I could do was watch as the little Eevee couldn't figure out that her mother was dead, "You're mom needs some rest, she told me to take you out of here and she'll catch up" I lied.
I tried my hardest not to shed tears, but it was just so depressing to see an Umbreon die by poison like that, somehow I felt it was my fault I couldn't help but then I remembered that I found her at the last minute, either way there was nothing I could do. I picked up the little Eevee and started taking little steps outside, just making sure she wouldn't start panicking if we walked away from her mom.
Finally we reached the edge of the cave, the cold wind blasting in my face, I covered the little Eevee with both of my arms and tried to shield her from the wind and rain, "Such a depressing scene..." I whispered, staring at the trees, bent over by the wind, the gray and black sky, and the rain, all formed together to make one heck of a dramatic view. The water began to flood over the top of the grass, it nearly flooded over my ankle as I took one step at a time, slowly and carefully, the mud was making it incredibly difficult to move quicker, one false move and I could end up face flat in a pool of dirt.
"Finally, we found shelter!" I yelled, staring at an abandoned shack. By this time, my fur was completely drenched in rain, at least the little Eevee was warm between my arms. The last thing I would want is a sick Eevee. I just moved a few more steps and there, I was inside, I carefully placed the baby Eevee on the floor and I shook off the water from my fur, "I guess we're staying in here until the storm clears out" I said, not expecting an answer. I sat down and let out a huge sigh of relief, "Good thing the humans didn't get there, or... there's no telling what would've happened" I said, petting the baby Eevee. She let out a squeaky yawn and crawled onto my lap, curling herself into a fetal position with her long and bushy tail used as a blanket. I continued petting her as she lay down, staring at the door, making sure no intruders were to come inside.
I looked at the little Eevee, she was so innocent, unaware of the horrors of this world, "I wish I was like you... not a care in the world, sometimes knowledge could be a burden..." I whispered as I began to scratch her head, her straight fur became spiky, "I think I know where to go, I think it's time to give my friends at Miir Cyraa a little comeback visit" I said as my eyes almost closed shut, I shook my head and tried to keep myself awake, "I can't just call her "Little Eevee" while she's with me... I might as well give her a name" I thought, staring at her, it took me a while until I finally got the perfect name for her, "I'll call you... Cindy..." I whispered.Chapter End Notes:February 27, 2098: I found a new companion for myself, a little Eevee. I named her Cindy, after my trainer for the Eevee's mother did not give me a name. I'm returning to Miir Cyraa soon, I can't let Cindy travel with me, it's way too dangerous. I just hope nothing gets in my way from here on in
