Night began to fall as the four neared a suitable clearing.It had been two days since Bane and Rika had joined the group. Inferno made a quick inspection, "Hmmmm, alright this will do. We'll rest here for the night."
Bane gave the spot a quick glance, "Whatever your the leader." He walked toward the far edge and layed down.
Inferno was about to launch a string of insults and retorts but Rika cut him off, "Give him a break Inferno. You and him need time to get use to one another." Inferno just huffed.
"She's right hon." Inferno was stunned by Sky's comment, "He seems to be okay. We should give him a chance."
Rika was glad that at least Sky was acting reasonable. When Inferno and Sky had settled on a little corner she went toward Bane, "You know your not making this easy. You really should tone down the attitude."
Bane gruffed, "Why should I? I only needed directions you didn't have to invite me along."
"But traveling alone is dangerous. I thought you learned that after you stepped into that beedrill nest." Rika gave him a small smile.
"I can handle myself. I've always had too." Rika gave him a puzzled look, "I was on my own since a group of humans killed my parents. That was when I was just a year old. Even when I was in that damn pack of idiots I had to fend for myself. I didn't need anyone then and I can do just fine on my own now. Why do you care anyway? We're not friends hell we just met two days ago." he said the last question in a much gentler tone.
"Because every one needs a little help in one way or another. You need someone to talk too. Like it or not everyone, even you, needs a friend or two." Rika gave him a big smile. He just gruffed. After a few moments of silence Rika walked back toward her other companions. Bane tried to sleep, but kept seeing Rika's smiling face, "Damn it why did she have to be so damn nice!" he thought. Bane shrugged and just closed his eyes and kept the thought of that beaming smile in his head until he drifted off to sleep.
When the first rays of light hit the clearing Inferno got up and streached. Sky woke up not long after, "Ohh sorry Sky did I wake you."
Sky gave him a smile, "Despite the fact you stink to high heaven no."
"Oh sorry princess but water and me don't mix well." As he finished his stomach began to growl and Sky's own added to the noise. "I guess we should get some food." He looked back toward Bane.
"Ohh Inferno stop being paranoid they'll be fine lets go and get something to eat." Rika began to get up, "Ohh Rika your awake. Me and Inferno are going to get some grub. Would you please humor his paranoia and watch Bane." Rika nodded with a big yawn, and the two set off.
Rika sat down next to a tree and kept a close watch on Bane. As he layed their curled up Rika thought he looked like a pup, all snug and cosy in a little ball oblivious to the world around him. It was a shame he was such a cold and distant ass. But, she reminded herself, he has been on his own all his life so he has a good reason for it. He train of thought was interupted be a smell. As she sniffed the air to get a better sence of what she was smelling she realized it was apples. At the thought of food her stomach began to growl, "Well one apple from yesterday is hardly a good meal." She set off in the direction of the smell, Bane wasn't going to do anything. After a little while she came upon an apple tree and let out a small cheer. She went about the base and ate every apple she came across. After she ate her fill she patted her stuffed stomach and sat down to let it digest before setting off for the clearing again. "Bane can handle himself. I don't need to baby sit him." She gazed at the sky and drifted in and out of consiousness.
Bane woke up and took a look around. Inferno and Sky were gone, most likely they were doing what lovers do. Rika was also gone, perhasp looking for food. He knew what the three had done the other day the smell was all over them. The more he thought of it the more he jealous of Inferno he felt. Not because he was with two girls but because one of them was Rika. "Damn it all why should I care?" He told himself. Raichus were supposed to be prey to his kind. He shouldn't think one of them was beautiful. But that smile she gave him was just so damn enchanting. "Crap I should have run away when I had the chance." Rika was the only person who ever talked to him, well aside from the friend he was going to mt. Kyoko to meet, and she was a lot kinder then most other were when they saw him. She had a kind and compassionate feel to her despite the fact she acted a little juvenille at times. She had given him a chance something not many others gave him. The more he thought the more he hated himself. "Bah I'm just wasting my time she just wants to be friendly. There's no way she could feel the same way for me." He thought that would silence his thoughts but it didn't it was always that damn smile. He closed his eyes and tried to put his emotions in order.
As Bane lay their trying to regain control of his thoughts the wind picked up blowing from Rika's position to his. All of a sudden his eyes darted open he sniffed the air again. "FUCK!" He darted off toward Rika and the other smell. "Damn of all the places. Rika please be okay."
Rika was still sitting down barly awake when she heard a voice, "well, well, well what do we have here."
"Looks like a fat little rat." a second voice spoke.
As Rika looked around for the voices source she saw the surronding brush rusling. A pack of mightyena appeared one had a giant scar down his side, "I do believe your right. A nice fat little snack." the pack began to laugh. Rika was dead silent, unable to run anywhere she could only sit as the pack drew closer. "Ain't she a cute one too."
"Sorry boss, but I dont find prey to be very appealing unless it's in my stomach." The one with the scar was the boss she concluded not that that did her much.
"True and my hunger for food is stronger than my hunger for a little fun so I guess we'll just eat her." The pack began to move in and Rika let out a small cry and closed her eyes. The next thing she heard was a shuffle of paws and a loud yelp of pain. When she opened her eyes Bane was standing between her and the mightyena pack and a mightyena was on the ground bleeding from where his ear used to be. "I don't believe it Bane. What the hell do you think your doing she's our prey go find some other meat."
Bane stood his ground, "Sorry but she's with me no ones laying a single tooth on her."
"My god Bane you really are pathetic. Hanging around with a raichu, a little rat good for nothing aside from food. Listen you weak little fool just stand aside and let us have her and you can keep your life."
Bane just stood there, "You not going to do anything to her. Back down now and I might spare you lives."
The pack just laughed, one of the mightyena to the sides joined the banter, "Please Bane your nothing but a weak little...." the rest of his sentence was cut off by a shadow ball to the face.
"RIKA RUN!" Bane yelled at her. She quickly set off through the gap with Bane and kept running when Bane stopped and turned, "Get outta here I'll hold them off." Rika looked back and was about to protest but Bane shot her a deadly look and she continued on.
"Damn it I see we aren't the only one's to learn a few things in three months."
Bane smiled, "actually I could do that since before I joined your little group."
"You always were a problem, never wanted to go with the pack and do as your told." The mightyena charged him. He blasted a few more with shadow balls before they closed the gap. He went into a malestorm of dodgeing and biting. He killed two with precision bites to the wind pipe and another one with a shadow ball two the head and into a tree. He tried to avoid as many hits as he could but the sheer number of them was to much and his injuries were mounting. A bunch of them, including the new leader set off after Rika. Bane broke free from the fighters and went after them.
Inferno and Sky had taken down a stantler and finished feasting on it. As they were cleaning eachother off they heared some noise, "What the hell is that?" Inferno turned toward the direction of the sound. It was near where Rika and Bane were. Sky was worried but as they were about to set off the wind blew the scent of the pack toward them. In a heart beat both of them set off toward the pack.
Rika had been running non-stop and could here the sounds of the fight. She prayed that Bane was okay. As she turned her head to see if she was being followed she exited the forest and nearly ran of a cliff into the rapids below. As she struggled to gain balance the small detachment of the pack caught up with her. "No where to run now."
As the group moved in for the kill Bane popped in to sight jumped over them and landed in front of Rika. "Like I said your not going to put one paw on her got it?" Rika saw that he had been biten in multiple places and was bleeding from most of the wounds.
The leader just stared at him, "Does that little raichu mean that much to you. Fine tell you what, if you come back to us and beg me for forgivness I might just let her go without even having some fun with her."
Rika looked at Bane unsure of what he would do or what he should do. He just sneered, "Go to hell and take that bull shit promise of yours with you. I'm not going to bow before such a reatched collection of dogs again."
The leader growled and gave the attack order when one of his subordinates was blasted by a fire blast. Inferno and Sky were running toward the group. "DAMN IT ALL BANE YOU WORTHLESS TRAITOR! HAVE YOU NO SHAME!?" He let our a string of shadow balls causing the edge to crumble away with Bane and Rika on it.
The two plummeted about twenty five feet before hitting the water. Inferno lost sight of them after that. The pack began to dispearse into the woods Inferno wanted to follow, but knew that saving Rika and Bane, something he couldn't believe he was doing, had to come first. Sky went back the way they came to follow the water flow, "No Sky this way we have to cross the thing first theirs no way to get on to land from in the river on this side." They set off toward a bridge up ahead hoping that some how the two would survive. Inferno however was prepared for the worst, the river was pretty rough at this point and he had no idea how injured they were. He knew they were more likely to find a couple of bodies rather than survivors.
*Mecha is untied and sitting in a circle with Inferno and Sky* Alright then you guys can stay and help but no talking about what's going to happen in the future.
Inferno: Sounds good to me.
Sky: Just in time two looks like this parts finished.
Ahh yes......ahem well Rika and Bane plummeted to a rushing river. I wonder will they survive or will they drowned and leave Inferno and Sky all alone. Yeah I cut the story here just for the cliff hanger. It may be short but as the saying goes it's quality not quantity that's important.
Sky: Your right thats what I keep in mind when I'm with you Inferno
