Episode 29 - The Pass of the Undead

"So... this is the Pass of the Undead?" I asked as we neared a huge tunnel which seemed to go on forever, we were very close to Fortree city, so close we could see the houses which hung so delicately from its trees. Since Fortree city's security was very advanced, we had to pass by the hard way, from underground where we should end up in Miir Cyraa, the only thing that disturbed me about the cave though, was its name "The Pass of the Undead".

It was some time in the morning and everyone was here, Kuimon, Yorotoshi, Kodachi, Cyra, Miika, Tira, and Aiiran, still unconscious.

Aiiran woke up earlier when everyone else woke up, which was around 5:00 in the morning, but Kuimon used a certain ability to make him sleep for a few more hours, just so he would not be a bother while we were traveling and I am the one who ordered that to happen because it would be better if he wakes up to his father, then there wouldn't have to be much explaining besides the fact that his father somehow is alive again.

"Yes it is, from here-on-in, this is where your skills will be tested, team" Kuimon said, a calm look in his left eye, "Is it really so bad down there?" Yorotoshi asked as he cracked his neck by twisting it sideways a bit with his right paw, "Hmm, have you guys ever heard of Reanimes? If you have, then that's how bad it is down there" Kuimon stated.

"Fuck, Reanimes? I remember those things back at Nightraven Labs" I muttered, remembering when Lindsey and I were in the middle of a firefight with all of those PEF Prisms who were under attack by those Reanimes, undead humans.

Upon being stereotypical on how this tunnel may have looked from the inside, I'd say it was a bit foreboding, plus how Cyra and Miika were already shivering at the thought of undead humans living down in that tunnel made me feel uncomfortable on this whole situation.

"Wait..." Tira started, drawing everyone's attention, "How in the world did undead humans get under there?" she asked. She seemed to know how to get in on the situation even though she barely knows anyone here, a very good adapter I must say.

"Okay, long ago when Miir Cyraa was created, PEF used Fortree city to block off passages to Miir Cyraa, but the refugees found a way, they built a tunnel to the great city and here it stands today, but in all of the time it has been here, Reanimes have began appearing inside, more and more, so now all refugees are in terrible danger when they go on foot to Miir Cyraa in this Route" Kuimon explained.

"So this is what you were talking about when you said our real missions will begin on our travels?" Kodachi asked with his cape and attachment claws ready for action.

"Yes Kodachi, this is exactly what I had in mind, now let's go, but we need to split into groups, too many of us in one place would just be a hazard when all of our special abilities go off in the slim tunnel, get my drift?" Kuimon said, preparing to divide everyone into groups as we walked inside of the entrance of the tunnel which was divided into 2 tunnels, one left and one right.

"Okay, Yorotoshi, Tira, and Seppachu will be in one group going to the right pathway, the rest of us plus Aiiran will go through the left tunnel, I guess I'll have to hold Aiiran though..." Kuimon said, "Let's move out, we'll meet you guys on the other side, and one more thing... don't die!"

We all ran inside of the tunnels instantly, Yorotoshi, Tira, and I to the right, Kuimon, Cyra, Miika, and Kodachi to the left but including Aiiran who was pretty much dead weight.

The odd sound of emptiness filled the tunnel as we ran through it as fast as we could until there was no more light from the outside to see anymore, "Aww crap..." Yorotoshi whined when we could not see anymore due to pitch-black darkness, "Hold on... I got this" I said as I picked up a long stick which was conveniently placed near right corner of the pathway, and lit it up with my Flamethrower, "Nice job Seppachu, very resourceful" Tira said with a friendly tone, "Heh... thanks" I replied as I led the way deeper into the tunnel.

After a few minutes, I could tell Tira was getting bored, so she started making some weird clicking noise with her mouth.

~(Click... click... click... click... click...)~

A few minutes of that and I was beginning to get seriously annoyed, but Yorotoshi pointed it out first, good thing too, I didn't want to look like a jerk.

"Tira, keep making that noise and I'm going to rip your fucking tongue out!" he yelled, his sudden jerky movement almost caused his Pole-arm to fly off the strap on his back.

"Hey, hey, hey! You don't need to be so rude about it!" Tira responded, I could tell her feelings were hurt by Yorotoshi's rude comment, "Oh stop it, you and I both know you were just doing that to annoy us!" Yorotoshi yelled.

But before Tira had a chance to respond, I had to interject because I heard a low growling noise in the distance and just to make sure I was not mistaken, I needed silence, "Um, as much as I love catfights, I think I hear something in the distance that COULD BE WORTH LOOKING INTO!"

They both turned to where I pointed which was up ahead, the area of the cave which the light from my stick has not touched and then there was that low growling again.

Afterwards was just plain silence, we stood there, waiting for something to happen and that is when I saw a horde of Crobats fly right out of the darkness and towards the exit of the tunnel. Tira began to scream as Yorotoshi and I pushed her down to the ground so she would not get injured if half of her body was in the way of their retreat.

We pushed down against Tira's body, she was shaking with fear, I could not help but feel sorry for her because I know how it is to be in a scary situation then something pointless and freaky happens to just unnerve you, "That means something bad is up there... perhaps, I'm not sure, maybe they are just leaving for no reason..." Yorotoshi said as he got up and pulled out his Pole-arm, holding it close to his chest near the spike right in the middle.

"I'm sorry guys, I'm more brave than this, it's just that I can't handle surprising situations" Tira apologized, her head bowed down in shame, "Aw, it's alright, I mean... come on, we all got scared there" I softly said as I grabbed her paw and pulled her forwards.

She got close to me, really close to me as we moved along, it was like she was depending on me to protect her if anything went wrong. I held my torch in my right hand overhead, its heat shining on the top of Tira's head.

"So... how long is this tunnel anyways, I really don't like the looks of this place..." Tira muttered to me so she would not have to listen to Yorotoshi's rude comments again, "I really don't know, I've only been to Miir Cyraa once and I've never taken this pathway before" I responded, of course in a whisper. Tira seemed disappointed, she must have hated it here, I know I did too, but we had to, plus I want to be there before the PEF try to invade Miir Cyraa.

"Hmm, by the way Kuimon spoke of this place, he made it seem like a "Zombie Horde of Doom" kind of infestation..." Yorotoshi muttered, his Pole-arm a bit loose-on-end now due to letting his guard down.

"I know... he did make it seem a bit scary" Tira said, getting a grip on herself and no longer relying on me to protect her.

I decided to pull out my Katana before we got any farther, I switched the torch with the Katana and now held the torch in my left hand instead of my right, "Ooh, nice sword, it's all golden!" Tira pointed out, tapping it a bit on the tip of the blade.

"Here we are... the base of the right tunnel, Kuimon told us about this place of the tunnel earlier... it is where most of the Reanimes hide, so we must be careful" Yorotoshi said as we looked over a large section in the tunnel, it was about the size of a Football field if I'm not mistaken, it had rocky pillars everywhere and it seemed empty, but who am I to guess, the Reanimes are most likely hiding, I just hope they've already had their breakfast time on some other unlucky soul.

"Okay now all we need to do is..." but before Yorotoshi could finish giving his instructions, there was a huge burst of loud growling coming from all around us, its screech was dreadful, even with all the strength I possessed, the noise made me fearful.

We all stopped short as the screeching just grew louder and louder, Tira had went into a certain stance that looked like she was preparing to dance while Yorotoshi and I held our blades near us just incase a Reanime decided to pop up out of nowhere.

"Contact...!" Yorotoshi yelled as 3 Reanimes charged us from the darkness around us, one came after each of us. I used my Darkline against the Reanime charging me, but missed because these undead guys weren't the kind that just slowly walked towards you, these were those types of acrobatic, ridiculously fast kinds.

He dove over my Darkline and ended up running right into me, that is when I swung my Katana randomly upwards, pretty much slicing up his body like he was butter, "Ahh, these guys are like sacks of peanut butter, we can take them!" I yelled as I moved over to help Tira, but soon realized she did not need help. She stood there with the Reanime that attacked her on the ground, moaning and groaning in pain while Yorotoshi rammed the back of his Pole-arm into the one that attacked him.

"Cripes, that was weird" Tira whispered, "How did you get rid of your so quickly?" I asked her, referring to the fact that she took her down even quicker than the rest of us.

"Well, I have a special ability that..." again someone was interrupted by the loud screeching of Reanimes. That is when we realized all of them staring at us from the darkness, we were surrounded by these unnaturally charcoaled undead humans.

We all went back to back in the middle, preparing for all of them to come at once, "You know... I could choose to say something dumb right now, but ah hell, I'll just say it... ZOMBIE FIGHTERS!!" I yelled.

That is when all of the Reanimes charged us at once, I took the advantage of charging up first with a devastating blast from my Darkline which exploded right in the faces of those undead humans, ripping them apart as it made contact.

"Ah, you guys stay back, let me handle the first part!" Tira ordered us as we backed up to the location where we I blasted my Darkline, it was a way we could NOT be completely surrounded by these undead creatures.

Tira stretched out her legs then charged forward, jumping right into a large group of Reanimes which just attracted most of the others to her as well. One tried to bite her several times with sudden lunges and uncoordinated movements, but Tira had kept her element of surprise on that one by staying behind them, then quickly landing a few jabs to his neck, causing the Reanime to just fall over instantly.

"Whoa... what kind of attack is that?" I asked myself as Tira cart wheeled passed 2 other Reanimes who had lunged towards her but ended up running into each other in mid-air which somehow broke their necks.

Once she was completely surrounded, she began to gently jab and poke away at all of them quickly, ducking under their strikes and staying behind them so they could not get a clear strike on her.

Yorotoshi and I were at awe after it was all over, Tira stood there dramatically with a pile of Reanime bodies surrounding her, some of them trying to get up but ending up falling to the ground once again.

"Tira, that was amazing, how did you do that?!" I yelled as I ran over to her and hugged her, "Wow, um, it's my special ability, it allows me to cut off control from the brain to a certain part of your body" she giggled, "Okay guys, I really don't think this is such a romantic place... let's keep going before we run into an army... much like the one right behind us" Yorotoshi said with an annoyed look on his face, pointing back to all of those Reanimes staring at us, so many of them it was unbelievable, all growling and drooling disgustingly in the distance, all blank looks.

"Oh... I see what you mean..." I muttered, letting go of Tira and turning around to stare at all of the Reanimes, "You know... this reminds me of something..." I chuckled, "No, we're not listening to something dumb again like "Zombie Fighters", we are getting the fuck out of here!" Yorotoshi yelled as he sprinted in the direction of our current advancement.

We ran and ran until we got to the exit of this large section of the tunnel, "Block off the door, quickly!" Tira screamed as I sheathed my Katana and told everyone to stay clear as I used my Darkline in order to block off the passage, it exploded and rock plus other various items came crashing down, blocking the Reanimes from our pathway.

"Nice one, Seppachu" Yorotoshi said as he quickly moved forward once more with Tira and I following close behind.

"I wonder what would have happened if we were stuck in there..." Tira whispered, "I really don't know, but I hope the block I made doesn't mess up other refugees from getting passed..." I said with a brush of guilt that I blocked off the exit of the right tunnel so we could get away.

"Well... I don't think we really have to worry about that more than we have to worry about what is in front of us..." Yorotoshi whispered, Tira and I moving up to see what he was talking about. And there before us was a large portion of the tunnel, a bit smaller in width than the passage behind us, but this area seemed more dreaded and more foreboding than the last.

"Aah... I was hoping I would never see another one of these Anriu contraptions..." Yorotoshi was referring to an odd totem pole covered Anriu hieroglyphs in the middle of the area in front of us.

"So, what is that...?" I asked, walking towards the totem pole but only to be stopped by Yorotoshi, "That is an Anriu Reanimizer, it is used to infect dead humans with Nectodaphillia... therefore turning them into Reanimes" he explained.

"...And that is why there are Reanimes all over this cave?" Tira asked.

"Yes ma'am, and if we destroy this thing, we would have made this tunnel a safe place to take refuge or travel through" Yorotoshi said.

"Alright then, let's take it out!" I yelled with a victorious tone in my voice as I ran towards the totem pole and unsheathed my sword, but only to be pushed away by a bright red blast of energy escaped the middle of the Reanimizer like a halo expanding around an angel's head.

I fell over to the ground with a loud Thud, seething my teeth in pain, "Great..." Yorotoshi muttered as he readied his Pole-arm for some unexplained reason, "Wha... what's happening?" Tira asked with a fearful look on her face.

"More Reanimes, let's take this thing down now!" Yorotoshi yelled as he charged towards the Reanimizer, the blade on his Pole-arm dragging behind, then he jumped and spiraled with the blade ramming right into the totem pole, but sadly, nothing happened, a red misty shield appeared where Yorotoshi hit as the Reanimizer suddenly shot the halo ray of energy once again, but this time it shot out 3 rings which summoned about 6 Reanimes. They all came out of the ground, the Third Eye of the Anriu on their foreheads.

"Be careful guys, Reanimes that were directly summoned by the totem pole for protection are granted the Anriu abilities!" Yorotoshi yelled as one of the Reanimes used a devastatingly powerful Darkline which exploded right in Yorotoshi's very own Darkline shield.

Tira jumped right into action as 2 Reanimes charged her and both aimlessly used Darkline which missed as Tira got up behind them and landed a few quick jabs, causing them to lose control of their bodies, then she cart wheeled out of the way as 2 more Reanimes charged up with the Anriu Thunderbolt. They both shot red lightning out of their fingertips, I ducked under it and kicked a Darkline which flew out of my feet, it exploded right next to the Reanimes, sending them flying away.

Yorotoshi had charged one hostile, slicing his head off before he was able to activate an Anriu ability as Tira jumped right over him and jabbed a Reanime who was coming up from behind, causing him to fall over instantly.

"Quickly, destroy the Reanimizer before it summons more Reanimes!" I yelled as I charged up a powerful Darkline in my hands, letting it fly right into the totem pole and exploding, but the damage it caused was once again deflected by the red shield surrounding it, "How the hell do we destroy that thing?!" I yelled.

"Wait... I've heard that all Anriu Reanimizers all come with a riddle to solve..." Yorotoshi said, "Wait, I see some writing on the side of it... I think it says "Hereditary are not permitted, neither the abilities of the realms, only the one who has mastered the true sides of the realms will know what the destruction of this shall be"."

"Uh... what the HELL does that mean?!" Yorotoshi screamed as the Reanimizer let out another wave of energy, 3 of them, therefore summoning 6 more Reanimes.

Yorotoshi began to swing his Pole-arm around and around like he was dancing with someone, he killed one of the Reanimes who charged towards him, but the other two near him were smart enough to know that they should use a far range attack for someone like Yorotoshi who uses a Pole-arm so fluently.

With rotting flesh and a demonic look on their face, they both lifted up their right hand, revealing the 4th Eye of the Anriu on each palm, "Shit!! Yorotoshi, get down!" I yelled as the Reanimes' palms began to pop and spark as a red line appeared from them, aiming themselves at Yorotoshi who stood there like an imbecile, unaware of what was going to happen next.

I pushed Yorotoshi to the floor right before the Fireline exploded, but it was still a close call. "Fuck, thanks for that, I forgot about Fireline... a very destructive attack" Yorotoshi muttered as we both got up, realizing that Tira had already taken down 3 Reanimes and was cart wheeling to the ones pointing their 4th Eyes at us. She jabbed away at their necks, making them both fall over to the ground.

"Hereditary are not permitted... so I can't use a move like Extremespeed or Shadow Ball against this Reanimizer... neither the abilities of the realms... I can't use my Darkline either, so how can we beat it?" Yorotoshi said to himself.

I knew if I tried to figure it out, I would not be much help for I really was never good at puzzles and riddles like this.

Tira let out a yell of frustration, suddenly beating the crap out of the shield which protected the Reanimizer with her paws, "Why... won't... you... die!!" she screamed, jabbing away at the shield with such great speed.

"Holy cow, I think I'm in love..." I muttered.

Right then, another wave of energy flew right out of the Reanimizer, but once we realized how many crawled out of the ground, we knew this was a "Do or Die" situation. They surrounded us like ants charging for food, some even on the tunnel walls and ceiling.

Then, suddenly the answer hit me, "Yorotoshi, don't ask me why, but use your Nightline!" I asked, I was referring to the X'rivva's special Darkline, the very same I saw Aylla using.

"Uh... okay" he responded, charging up the same blue mist I saw Aylla doing when she almost struck Yorotoshi with her own Nightline.

The Reanimes took this as a threat and all attacked at once, but once they all got so close that we could feel their disgusting breaths of our faces, Yorotoshi's Nightline struck the Reanimizer, thereby penetrating the shield and destroying it, killing all of the Reanimes in the area as well. They all dropped dead on the floor, so many of them.

"Whoa... what kind of move was that?" Tira asked, but of course we did not answer her, it would be better if she didn't know that much about the realms.

"Seppachu, how in the world did you figure out that dumb riddle?" Yorotoshi asked me.

"Well, I figured that the true side of a realm is its special Darkline..." I responded with a triumphant look on my face.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Finally we're out of that Godforsaken place!" Tira squealed as the sunlight warmed our faces while Kuimon and his group came out as well, "Whoa, hey guys, it looks like you beat us" Cyra said. Aiiran was still unconscious on Kuimon's back, I wonder how long he was going to be like that, maybe Kuimon's little trick he used may last for more than a day, I didn't really know

"So I see you guys found the Reanimizer in that tunnel, good job" Kuimon said.

"So that is why all of the Reanimes died so abruptly like that? Because they took out the main source of Reanimes in this area?" Kodachi asked.

"Yup, that's exactly what happened" Kuimon said as he turned to look at the scenery.

This area was beautiful, a large hill in front of us, tropical trees everywhere, the light shined through the leaves, making a beautiful scenery.

"Well guys... we finally made it" Kuimon started as he began to climb up over the hill, standing up at the top and looking down upon all of us as if he was superior, "After all of this traveling, many have died but we have finally made it... I welcome you to Miir..." but when he turned around, he stopped short with a dreaded look on his face.

"What's wrong?!" I yelled as I ran up there to see why Kuimon was so devastated, "Oh no..." I whispered. There Miir Cyraa was in all of its glory, the tower which protected the residence which lied underground, but near the tower was, in all terms, an Anriu Portal. It swirled around in an orbiting fashion so very fearfully, the essence was a dark red color and the middle black hole showed the Anriu realm world "Diranus", it was like hell itself, the buildings completely black and the sky red with purple lightning in the background.

But I knew instantly that this was no ordinary Portal, even though I've never seen a Portal-Wielder create one before, but the vision the original Seppachu gave me was this exactly, the Anriu's ultimate Portals, able to transport armies at a time.

"This... is the beginning of the second war..." the original Seppachu's voice echoed through my mind.

Kuimon suddenly growled, clenching his mechanical hands together, "I guess our relaxing time is going to have to wait..." he murmured with a hint of fear in his voice.
