Story Notes:

This story wasn't originally meant to be as large as it grew into it. It was just supposed to be a quickie for Valentine's Day. But I ended up falling in love with the characters and going along with their personalities and affections towards each other. It was just so endearing that I had to keep writing. I'm glad I did, though, because I personally believe that this is the best story I have written to date, far more so than even Middle of Nowhere. I can only hope that you, the reader, feel the same, but even if you don't, it was really great writing this story and has helped further my experience as a writer. Thank you! Also thank you to The Tinkler for helping me proofread this and to everyone else that has helped me while writing A Friend Indeed. :3

Chapter 5

A Friend In Need
-~+~-

"Florel... Florel... please wake up."

My sleep was suddenly interrupted. I felt someone shaking my body, calling my name. I slowly opened my eyes to see Dew staring down at me.

"Oh, Florel! We fell asleep again!" she said in a panicky voice. "It's night out! Mom and dad are going to kill us!" Great, not again...

Dew stepped aside as I sat up and looked around at the eerie scene of the darkened fields. "Great... now what," I said, feeling disappointed for allowing ourselves to get into another dangerous situation. We broke our promise to Dew's parents yet again. What if they stopped us from mating?

Dew looked at me with a look of worry on her face. Long gone was the display of happiness and delight worn on her face earlier. "We need to get home..." she said with a sigh.

I stood up and looked around, trying to fully grasp that it was really night out. It was, no question. We had let it happen again. Dew's parents were undoubtedly worrying about us. Maybe they were out looking for us right now? It has happened before... But wouldn't they know that we were here?

"Come on, we'd better not waste any time," I said, motioning for her to follow me. "Do you want to grab onto my tail like last time?"

"Y-yeah," she answered hesitantly, walking behind me and lightly nipping my tail with her mouth to hold on to it.

Unfortunately, it was overcast and much darker than the last time we were out. Clouds filled the sky and blocked the moon. It also felt rather moist, like it could rain or even storm soon. My worries were realized when I felt a drop of water hit my head.

"Was that you?" I turned around and asked Dew, just on that off-chance it was her being funny. She shook her head. I felt another drop hit me, then another, and another. "Guess it's going to rain..."

The Mudkip released her grip on my tail long enough to respond. "Oh, no... what if it storms? We don't even have shelter!"

"Let's not think that and try to think positive, alright? It's not going to-" It was as if the clouds were listening to what we were saying and just wanted to laugh at us. Just as I was saying that, they unleashed a weak flash of lightning.

We both paused for a few seconds before we heard the booming thunder that came along with it. "See!" exclaimed Dew. "Now what do we do?" She looked so worried.

"We try and beat it, that's what," I replied with a shrug. "Come on, let's go." Dew hung her head down for a few seconds before resuming her grip on my tail. "Actually, do you think you can run?"

"Y-yes... I think so. Not as fast as you, but-"

"It might be better to try and run back. It's a little riskier, because we won't be as alert, but if we get caught in a thunderstorm without shelter, we're screwed anyway."

Dew nodded her head in agreement. "I guess you're right..." I didn't want to overexert her, but I also wanted to make sure that we would get back home before the storm, if that was even possible.

"Alright, let's run," I said, nodding back at her and starting to run forward, looking back to see her running on all fours behind me.

***

We made our way out of the flower fields and back to the path that got us there in the first place. The rain had started pouring at a reasonable rate as more thunder and lightning plagued the skies. It also became much windier, blowing the rain onto us as we were running.

My suspicions were that the storm was, unfortunately, down towards our den. As we ran closer to it, the rain picked up, the lightning flashes became brighter, and the rumbling of thunder grew louder.

Every few seconds I looked behind me to make sure that Dew was still keeping up. She was, though she did seem to start tiring.

As we ran along, I accidentally tripped and fell forwards into the mud, taking me entirely by surprise.

"Florel!" I heard Dew shout, though only faintly through the pouring rain. "Are you alright?" she asked me, appearing to be right to my side now.

"Yeah, it just took me off-guard, heh," I said back to her, getting on my knees and starting to stand up again. "Ah!" I exclaimed in pain, feeling my leg give out and falling back down into the mud. It felt like I twisted my leg or something when I fell the first time. Great, of all the times...

"Your leg! Florel, you're hurt!" she said, walking in front of me and looking down at me with a look of concern in her eyes.

"Ugh, I don't know if I can walk on this," I said, trying to get back up on my knees again, though feeling the pain in my ankle teasing me. I knew that if I tried to stand up, it'd hurt even more, but if I didn't stand up, we'd get caught in the rain and likely get really sick or worse!

"What do we do now?" Dew asked me. I had given up on trying to stand upright altogether and was instead sitting down in the mud beside her, running my paw down my leg and probing my ankle to verify that it was definitely my ankle that was causing me so much grief.

"We, uh... we find somewhere to take shelter?"

"How are we going to do that if you can't walk?!" She had a point.

I'd really run out of ideas. "Maybe the storm is almost over?" Of course, immediately after suggesting that, I saw a powerful flash of lightning directly followed by a crackling boom. "Or... not."

"I'm scared! I knew we should have waited until tomorrow to mate! I just knew something bad was going to happen because of rushing into it!"

"Hey, Dew, don't blame yourself, and definitely don't blame that wonderful time we had on this. It was the right time for it, don't you think? We just need to do a better job of staying awake, heh."

I motioned my hand for her to come and sit on my lap, to which she obliged. I wanted to make sure that we stayed close to each other, because it helped put my mind at ease and I was sure it'd help put hers at ease as well.

"You're right... I just wish that-" Boom! Another flash of lightning and rumble of thunder interrupted her. "I- I wish that we weren't in a situation like this... I just wanted to get home to my parents and be happy."

"Well, you're with me, doesn't that make you happy?" I asked her.

She nodded. "Y-yes, it does. But I-"

I interrupted her. "Hey now, no butts except yours! We'll get through this storm just fine and then we'll be home and back with your parents so you can relax."

All of a sudden, we both heard something. It took us completely by surprise. "Dew!" Someone was calling Dew's name, faintly through the rain.

We looked at each other in disbelief for just a second before Dew cried out in response. "Help! I'm over here! Mom, dad, please help!" she yelled out in the direction we heard the voice from. We were found! Dew's parents were looking for her after all!

The two of us watched as we saw a figure start to form from beyond the rain, emerging from its veil of water. What we saw the figure form into, though, was not that of a Swampert. It was something far more terrifying than the likes of Dew's parents. Dew's parents would at least provide us the satisfaction of being brought home before we were killed; what we saw in front of us would likely kill us right on the spot: it was a Mightyena!

Dew and I both screamed at the top of our lungs after seeing the wolf-like figure emerge from the rain and enter sight. Its fur was completely soaked, but it still intimidated us with its threatening teeth.

"Looks like it was you two I heard after all, heh," said the Mightyena, panting a bit and slowly stepping towards us. I tried to slide myself backwards to gain some distance, since I didn't have the luxury of running away. Dew got off my lap and was stepping back as well, facing the Mightyena the whole time.

"Get away from us, you monster!!" screamed Dew, sounding both angry and frightened at the Mightyena in front of us.

"Dew, that's your name, right? And Flora?" asked the Mightyena in a surprisingly polite tone. I wasn't really up to disagreeing with my potential predator. "I'll explain everything later, but let's get some shelter first."

"What are you talking about?!" I exclaimed. "Shelter? Explain?" It had me so confused. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that it was the same Mightyena from earlier, but he was acting so much less aggressive. Something seemed fishy.

"Ha, I'm not gonna eat you, don't worry!" remarked the Mightyena, though I was having a hard time believing him. "Listen, I just want to repay the favor. Now can we talk about this when we're back at my cave? Ena needs food and I'm going to have to go back and get some for her."

Another flash and boom startled me even more. Seeing the face of the Mightyena lit up by its light really added to that fright.

I slid back even further. "I can't trust you! If you lead us back to your cave, you'll just eat us there, except bring the meal right to your mate!" I exclaimed, shaking my fist from the arm I wasn't using to support myself at him.

To my surprise, the Mightyena didn't snap back at me. He didn't get angry. He merely sighed and hung his head low, appearing quite docile and remorseful. "I'm really sorry about that... I do prey on Pokemon to survive, as does my mate -- I know you know this from our past encounter. But you also could have let that Swampert kill me, yet you cried out to save me, even though I almost ate you both... Please, we can talk later about this, but we're all going to get sick if we stay out in the rain for too long, so hop on my back and let's get going already! Come on, you've got to trust me!"

Dew looked over to me, wearing a look of suspicion on her face. I was also highly suspicious of his intentions, even though he was presenting us a way to get out of the storm. Not only that, but if he really were intent on killing us, he had the perfect opportunity to do so unless he was just looking for an easy way to carry us back to his mate.

"What should we do?" she asked me, looking highly worried about the predicament we were in. As she said that, a profound realization hit me and I knew exactly what to do. The gears were turning in my mind.

I turned away from Dew to look back at the Mightyena, then shouted over to him, "No! We're not going with you, so just go away!" It was indeed a gamble. If he was, in fact, intent on making dinner out of us and planned on doing the deed when back at his cave, he'd be forced to attack us now and bring us back, otherwise he'd miss out on the meal entirely. But, if he genuinely did want to help us...

"This storm could last another hour! I know you don't trust me, but-"

I interrupted him. "I don't care! Just get out of here!" I yelled to him, hoping that my plan would work.

The Mightyena nodded his head, sighed, then started walking away from us. "Florel...!" whispered Dew, sounding like she was more inclined to go along with him than I would have thought.

Oh well, regardless, it did turn out as I had hoped. Now he'd just need to listen one more time... "Wait! Mightyena! Wait!" I shouted over to him. He stopped in his tracks. "Wait, come back!"

He turned around and walked back towards us, looking a bit confused. "What is it?" he asked.

"I'm sorry, we've changed our minds," I told him, hoping he'd still agree to help us. "We'll go with you to your cave if you'll take us."

I saw him smile in response. "Well then, hop on my back." The Mightyena lowered himself to the ground and allowed easy access onto his back. "Do you need a paw getting on? Or can Dew help you out?"

"I can help him on," said Dew, grabbing me and sliding me over to where the Mightyena was, then hefting me up onto his back. She was surprisingly strong, though she was a lot heavier than me, so maybe it was just my lightness.

Dew hopped up onto his back as well. The Mightyena raised himself up and then started running at a fair pace through the rainstorm, leading us to either a safe retreat or a certain demise.

***

It wasn't too long before the Mightyena led us to the cave he was talking about and brought us both inside, allowing us to dismount his back and sit a few feet away from the entrance.

"Grey, is that you?" called out a voice from deeper inside of the cave.

"Yeah, I'm back. I had to leave the food, but I brought guests!" exclaimed the Mightyena, who I figured was named Grey. It was nice of him to at least make the distinction, though.

"Oh... Well," said the voice, drawing much closer to us, "who're the guests?" Through a flash of lightning, I saw the face of the creature that was emerging from the cavern's depths: it was another Mightyena! I only saw it for a second, but it was definitely a Mightyena. Hopefully when my eyes adjusted to the cave's darkness, I'd be able to see even better.

"Remember the Mudkip and the Treecko I was telling you about? It's them!" Grey sounded surprisingly enthusiastic about his statement.

"O-oh? You mean those ones?"

"Yeah, them!"

"I'm sure we can go without food for now... Dew, Flora? I'm Ena, Grey's mate." The female Mightyena walked over towards the entrance, allowing her silhouette to be seen against the backdrop of the rain. Grey walked over next to her and gave her a lick.

"See, babe? Aren't they just adorable?" asked Grey to his mate, looking over at us. It was still rather hard to see, though, but I could at least detect their movements.

"Well, I can't really see them all that well now, so how can I tell?" Hmm, I would have thought she'd be able to see us better. Perhaps Mightyena didn't have as good of eyes as I might have thought, or maybe there was something wrong with her eyesight. I wasn't up to asking right now, though.

"Just trust me, they are! Anyway, you two are welcome to stay with us until the storm passes, or until morning, or really as long as you'd like."

Dew finally broke our combined silence. "W-wait? Y-you aren't g-going to e-eat us?" she said skittishly.

"If we wanted to eat you, we would have skipped the introductions and done so," answered Ena. She sounded sincere enough and had a valid point.

"Then, why? Why are you doing this?" I asked while rubbing my sore ankle with my paw.

I saw the two silhouettes look at each other, then back at us. "I, uh, I'm... I'm gonna be totally serious with you two. When I was running back to this cave that night I attacked you, I couldn't stop thinking about what you said, about me having a mate and being in love... you even begged your dad to let me go, even though I tried to kill you!"

"I didn't want to see anyone die... I just wanted to get away," said Dew.

"I felt so ashamed at what I tried to do, even though it's what I have to do to survive. I realized that I, like you, could have and probably should have died that night. Then I thought about Ena and our soon-to-be-pup and just how horrible it'd be if they had to fend for themselves. And then, I thought about you two and just how truly horrible it'd be to separate you from each other... it's the same thing, and you saw that."

The male Mightyena took a step forward, then lowered his head to us. "Cheesy as it sounds, I... owe my life right now to you. Ena and our pup do, too," he said, bowing his head further down. "Even if we never met again, I would never forget that you let me live because you knew I was in love."

I felt Dew rest her head against my shoulder, so I rubbed it slightly while listening to his very touching story. For a more aggressive, predatory Pokemon like Mightyena, he seemed to be extremely sincere and reasonable.

"Yes, thank you two so much... I'm sorry that Grey here even tried to attack you, though I do hope you understand it's how we survive," said Ena.

I didn't really want to argue with them over my beliefs on killing Pokemon. I hated the thought, though I did know it was an unfortunate fact that certain Pokemon must prey on other Pokemon to survive. Fortunately, me being a speedy, crafty, and rather skinny Treecko, and Dew being a cautious and alert Mudkip, we never were the target of some of the smaller predatory Pokemon that preyed on the Wurmple, Taillow, and Zigzagoon in the area.

However, it was at least assuring hearing them recognize their regrets, or at least appearing to. "Well, that's how you live..."

"I-it's fine... just as long as you don't eat us," said Dew, probably trying to throw some humor in there. Or maybe she didn't mean that as a joke. Hmmm...

Another flash of light illuminated the cave. It was actually one of several that had flashed during the course of our conversation, but the silence was what made me notice it now. The time between the following rumbles seemed to be getting longer and longer, leading me to believe that we were getting closer to the storm's end.

I could also see quite a bit better now that my eyes had adjusted and the storm started letting up. I'd already seen Grey, but Ena was a new sight. She looked just a bit smaller than Grey and seemed to have slightly lighter fur.

"So are you two new mates as well?" asked Grey, who had regained his posture. Immediately after hearing that, I heard a thud and saw him get knocked back an inch or two by his mate.

"That's not something you should be asking!" shouted Ena, sounding a bit irritated.

"I was just trying to make conversation, that's all!"

"Actually," Dew intervened, "we are... um... r-right before the storm, we, um..." I was rather surprised that she'd bring up our time together. Not that I was embarrassed talking about it or anything, but just because it seemed like she wouldn't want to.

"Ha, oh? I think I understand, don't worry," said Grey, sounding like he got what she was struggling to say. "I wasn't sure if you were mates when I first found you or not, but judging by how much you cared about protecting each other and from that delightful scent, I figured you wer-"

Thud! Ena slapped her mate even harder than the last time. "What was that? You better not have been chasing them only because of her mating scent!"

"Babe, I swear I wasn't! Really! I just noticed it when I was chasing them, that's all!" He sounded highly embarrassed.

"Mating scent?" asked Dew. She actually beat me to saying it, as I was rather curious about what he meant by it, too.

"Yeah, it's that really nice smell that comes from females when they want to mate. Boy am I glad I've got a good smeller, ha, because just taking in a whiff of that fragrance drives me wild! I mean only Ena's, not any other female's, ha! Don't worry, babe." Grey licked Ena on the cheek, not earning any visible response from her.

"F-Florel? Is that true? D-did you smell anything?" she asked me.

I blushed pretty heavily, remembering the two times I got to lick at her and completely envelop myself in the delightful scent that Grey was talking about. Thankfully, I don't think she saw that. "Y-yeah, I did. It was such a powerful smell and it made me feel kind of lightheaded."

"Ha! You see what I mean, then! Isn't it awesome?" Grey sounded pretty happy about where the conversation was headed.

"Yeah, it is," I answered. "So, uh... have you two been mates long?"

"About two weeks," answered Ena. Exactly as I thought. That matched almost perfectly with the time we saw them, assuming my memory served correctly. "Not too much longer and we'll both be parents."

"Ha, yes, parents!" Grey proudly exclaimed. "I don't know if you can see her or not, but Ena here's carrying a mighty fine egg, so she's looking a little bit big around the bel-"

Thud! "Hey! You try carry this thing inside of you, cramping you and toying with your sanity day after day and see how much you like it, bucko!" Ena looked back over to us. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to scare you if that's what you two are going for."

Dew nuzzled against me even more. I really didn't know that those kind of effects happened when you were pregnant.

"Aww, don't worry, Dew, it's going to be worth it, huh?" I said to her, trying to reassure her that everything was okay.

"If you've got any questions, sweetheart, you can ask me, even though this is just my first time," said Ena. That was nice of her. It seemed like us four were getting along pretty well, especially given we the circumstances.

"Are you two nervous about becoming parents?" I asked, curious to find out how they were handling it.

"You bet, ha! I've never been as nervous in my entire life! It makes me even more nervous than the first time I mated!"

Thud! "Knock it off!" Ena yelled, punching her mate again just for good measure. "Of course we're nervous, but we're also excited. You should be, too, if you are looking to become parents."

I blushed again. The thought of becoming parents was really overwhelming, but I also felt excited about going on another new adventure with Dew right by my side -- an adventure unlike any we've been on before.

"Hey, um, how long? I- I mean, how long until you, uh, have your egg?" asked Dew with a slight stutter and hesitance in her voice.

"Sometime next week, and then it should be another few days before the egg hatches," answered Ena.

"So about three weeks total?" asked Dew to Ena.

"Yes, about three weeks, though you'll know, oh, a few days from now if you actually are pregnant." Her straightforwardness was a little embarrassing, but I guess it wasn't really a surprise that we mated now. I mean, we've told them that already, pretty much, and it's not like they haven't. Plus, they weren't Dew's parents, who would surely handle it from a different perspective.

"Oh... alright. Thank you, Ena," said Dew in response.

We continued to talk throughout the stormy night, telling tales of what our lives were like and hearing about what theirs were like. Somewhere through our conversation, the storm lifted, but we decided that it'd be safer staying in the cave rather than trying to get back home, despite how much Dew's parents would be worrying. Besides, it was kind of fun.

Talking with Grey and Ena was really fascinating, because neither of us had much of an opportunity to talk to other Pokemon like we were able to. I saw them more as friends rather than predators and I believe Dew thought the same. They also seemed to be quite friendly for being more aggressive, predatory Pokemon. Guess it goes to show that even those kinds need friends, too.

Dew and I finally did admit to the Mightyena couple that we saw them when they were mating and they both laughed at the humor of the situation. Ena had a feeling that she was being watched back then, anyway.

It really was amazing how it all worked out. Seeing them mate was what really got Dew and I thinking about each other and about mating, and now, here we were talking to them, sharing laughs and stories, treating them like friends. It made me wonder how they saw us. It made me wonder more about what their thoughts were throughout this whole story. We seemed to make an impact on their lives, as well.

Finally, after a few hours of talking, we became too tired to keep up a good conversation, so Dew and I went to sleep. Grey and Ena were more of creatures of the night, so Grey told us before we fell asleep that he'd go and get the food he was intending to get before his little distraction, though also assured us that he was glad to have actually gotten to meet us rather than eat us. Reassuring, I guess.

When Grey first took us to the cave, I had my doubts. I knew that there was a chance that he or his mate would eat us after luring us there. I'd even worried that they'd eat us in our sleep. After talking with them, though, I wasn't worried. I didn't keep one eye open while sleeping. I think it was a good thing that we couldn't see them well at all -- and likely same in reverse -- because they didn't seem hostile and we didn't feel like much of a meal.

***

The one thing that I regretted was not being able to talk to Dew about just how amazing of a time I had with her, mating for the first time together and in general. We got to share a really wonderful time together and didn't give it as much of an afterthought as it deserved.

Granted, we were kind of thrust into a predicament that required our full attention and then found ourselves with company, but it just would have been nice to talk to her about it alone. I knew, though, that we would. I didn't doubt that she was intentionally trying to avoid talking about it or anything. It was just the situation distracting us from each other, that was it.

Grey and Ena seemed really nice. I still couldn't get over the fact that he almost killed us that one night and now, just a few days later, he was showing gratuitous appreciation towards us. But I do suppose that even the smallest things can have a huge impact on one's life. After all, if it weren't us for stumbling upon them mating in the first place, who knows where Dew and I would be now? Maybe we should have been the thankful ones.

I'd know if Dew was pregnant in a few days, according to Ena. I couldn't stop thinking about that. I hoped we'd get a few chances to mate again before then in case we couldn't while she's pregnant. Torent didn't tell me if mating while pregnant was bad or not and I wasn't sure if Grey or Ena would know. I could ask them in the morning, I suppose...

Ah, Dew. We've finally done it. Just in these past two weeks, you've shown me that you are more than just a friend and are the Pokemon I want to spend the rest of my life with. We really were meant to be together, weren't we? Now, more than ever, I feel so attached to you. It sounds sappy, but it's true. I love you, Dew...

***

The next morning, I woke up to see that it was light out. The sunshine reached into the cave and lit the entrance up. Dew was sleeping on her side right next to me, snoring lightly. As I sat up, I saw that Grey and Ena were sleeping beside each other as well.

I stood up and walked over to the entrance of the cave to reflect on things, going over a lot of the thoughts I was having through the night. Looking at the scenery reminded me of somewhere... Wait! The cave I was in was the one I went exploring with Dew! I looked around to double-check and confirm it. Even the cave's ceiling looked familiar now that I could see it.

"Heh, I suppose that's just another coincidence?" I asked myself mockingly. It seemed like there were quite a few of them. I also noticed that I was able to walk over there without any problems. My ankle must have just been twisted or something. Thank goodness.

I walked back to Dew and watched her sleep contentedly. She wore a peaceful smile and would occasionally twitch in her slumber. Staring at her belly, though, was what really wrapped my mind up in thought and contemplation, reminding me that a piece of myself rested inside of her somewhere. Hopefully it would grow into an egg and eventually a healthy baby Mudkip.

Not wanting to wake up the sleeping Mudkip, I laid down on my back right next to her and placed my paws behind my head, continuing my contemplations about our future together, as well as if we'd ever see Grey and Ena again. I didn't see any reason we couldn't see each other.

To be honest, I was looking forward to seeing their kid, especially because it'd give Dew and I an idea of what to expect. I could only hope that Dew's parents would allow us to still see them after we got back and told them... if we told them.

Dew surprised me by rolling over and onto me, resting her head against my chest. "Mmmmm... Florel... is that you...?" she mumbled, still keeping her eyes closed.

"Yeah. You awake?" I asked her back, lightly petting her head.

"Mmmhmmm." She began opening her eyes. I was staring right at her face as she opened them and she locked hers to mine as they opened. "Guess we didn't get eaten, huh?"

I chuckled a bit. "Come on, you don't think they would have eaten us, do you?"

"Not before I fell asleep! But I mean, um, last night in the rain... I- I'm just glad that they didn't eat us!"

"Me too, obviously. They seemed pretty nice," I added, complimenting their hospitality.

Dew nodded in agreement. "Yeah, they are. I hope my parents don't freak out at us..." She looked a bit more worried.

"Freak out at us?" I asked. "What for?"

"Well, for running off, staying the night with the Mightyena that tried to kill us, and, um... m-mating."

I blushed after she acknowledged that we mated. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside thinking about it, especially now that I knew what it was like. "Heh, yeah, don't worry. They'll understand if we tell them."

"But how could they understand that we spent the night with two Mightyena, one of which was the one that tried to kill us?" Dew had that worried look on her face.

"It's alright, we'll just explain everything and-"

I was interrupted by her. "Wait, explain everything?" she asked, placing extra emphasis on 'everything.' "Like that we mated?" She was blushing and looking a bit nervous.

I wasn't so sure that flat-out telling them that we mated would be a good idea. It'd look like I didn't heed their advice and acted only on impulse, whisking her away -- or, rather, being whisked away -- to the flower fields to explore our adolescent curiosities.

When in doubt, selective interpretations of the truth work fine! "We can just say that we fell asleep and got caught up in the storm, then were saved by Grey."

"Won't they ask what we were doing before we fell asleep? They told us to be back before night! Already this is the longest I've been away from them..."

Calmly, I just said, "We were at the flower fields, talking and playing." Not like they really needed to know the specifics.

Dew sighed. "You don't think they'll get suspicious?"

"If they get suspicious, who cares? They know we're in love and gave us the okay to mate, so it's not like it's some big secret. We just don't need to tell them. They said we could do it whenever we wanted."

Dew nodded in response. "You know, you're right," she responded. The Mudkip then rolled over on top of me completely and pulled me in for a hug, licking at my face. "Florel... I really enjoyed yesterday. It felt so amazing... and so right. I'm so glad to finally be your mate, like, um, for real." For good measure, she pulled me in for a quick kiss, to which I was more than happy to return.

After breaking the kiss, I answered, "I'm glad to be yours, too," smiling at her with a wide smile on my face.

"It just feels like a dream. It's all so amazing. I thought that last night was some sort of curse for us mating or something, but it all turned out for the best, didn't it? Now I really have a chance to think back on it... and on how great you made me feel."

"Yeah," I replied, "it really was a great time. I'm glad we got to share it together." I smiled up to her, seeing her return the smile with a slight cock of her head to the left.

"H-hey, Florel," started Dew, "do you, um... do you maybe think that..." She kept glancing over towards Grey and Ena, who were presumably still asleep. "Do you think that we could maybe, um... maybe..."

Poor Dew was stuttering and nervous again. I thought we'd been over that! Oh well, guess that was one of the things I adored about her, hehe. "What is it? Come on, you can spit it out!"

"Well just maybe, um, maybe we could go exploring? Y-you know, i-in the cave..." Sounded to me like she had other intentions, especially due to how often she kept looking over at the sleeping Mightyena couple.

I started budging from underneath her to try and sit up. She took the cue and trotted up off of me, allowing me to do so, and sat beside me. "I'm game for exploring. Hopefully it'll be even more fun than last time."

"It will," Dew quickly responded, both of us pausing for a moment after she spoke. It definitely sounded like we were on the same page. I couldn't help but break out in laughter at the humor of the situation. It just seemed so funny hearing her say that! But it looked like she agreed, given how she began laughing shortly afterward.

After checking to make sure that Grey and Ena were still sleeping, worried that our laughter might have woken them up, I motioned for Dew to grab onto my tail as she did the last time so I could lead her through the dark cavern depths. She did so and we began walking further into the cave.

***

We made it past a few turns and down a few passages until we were far enough in to feel isolated from everything else. It was dark, but my eyes worked pretty well at seeing through the darkness. Dew, on the other hand, I was sure couldn't see a thing.

As we continued walking, I felt Dew stop and tug against my tail as I tried to go on ahead. "What's the matter?" I asked, turning around and looking back at her.

She ran forward, still keeping my tail in her mouth, until she nudged against me and released it. "I c-can't see a thing," she said, sounding a little worried. "But you're here for me, right?" she added.

Though I knew she couldn't see it, I grinned. "You know I am!" I assured her, petting her head. "Don't worry, I'm right here."

"Y-you can see, right?" she asked me with a stutter.

"Yeah," I answered confidently, not sure where she was going with her question.

I watched Dew do something a little unusual. I watched her take a few steps ahead, then arch forward, presenting her rear to me. She shook her tail and wiggled her hips. "So can you see me now? Hehe!"

"Well, I dunno..." I said in an extremely sarcastic tone. "It might just be my imagination."

Dew chuckled. "Maybe you should make sure it's real?" hinted Dew. Brilliant!

"That's a good idea," I answered, catching where she was going now. I walked up close to her rump and reached my paw up near her slit. It'd seem wrong doing something to her without being absolutely sure, even though I had a strong hunch, so I decided to ask her... just to be sure. "Dew, you want to mate... now?" I asked quietly, yet seriously.

She nodded her head and wiggled her rump at me. "Y-yeah... It was just so nice yesterday and we're alone again! Who knows when we'll get a chance to mate when we're back with my parents."

"Heh, might as well seize the opportunity while we've got it, huh? Alright, I was really hoping you were thinking that when you led me back here."

"Hey, you led me here!" she snapped back comically.

"Nuh-uh- oh, well, I guess I did... but you were the one that suggested we go exploring!"

She shook her booty again. "Well, hurry up and let's 'explore' before Grey and Ena wake up!"

Fortunately for us both, all the talk about mating got me pretty stiff down there, so I was ready enough to take a swing. I placed my paws on her hips, took a half-step forward with each foot, and positioned my growing erection down by her slit.

I spent a few seconds sliding it across her girlhood, coating it with her moisture and making me all the more anxious to continue. "Come on!" she shouted back to me, clearly not wanting to wait any longer.

Not like I could argue with a horny Mudkip. Without any further hesitation, I pressed my member against her slit and slid into her needy vagina. "Kip!" yipped Dew, lowering her head more. My member was welcomed inside with warmth and grace, reveling in the amazing texture it bore.

After I'd gotten a bit inside of her, I paused for a moment to catch my bearings. It felt so amazing! "Mmmn, this feels great...!" I said through my moans. "How about for you?"

"Y-yeah! Oh, Florel... This is awesome! I'm really glad we can do this," she answered back. The Mudkip shifted her hips back a bit, pulling more of me inside of her, then giggling afterward.

"Hehe, you don't want to waste any time, huh?"

"No! They could wake up any minute now! Plus I can't see a thing at all. It feels so great not being able to see anything and getting all this pleasure! It's like... a dream."

I'd forgotten about that; she couldn't see anything! It really must be quite an experience, mating without even seeing what's happening, just enjoying the feelings and what's being said. Kind of kinky, but I liked it, and it sure sounded like Dew liked it.

After resuming my thrusting and making a few more thrusts into her, I noticed Dew completely rest her head on the ground while keeping her rear elevated enough for me to thrust into. It was such a different angle to be inserting myself in comparison to last time, but I liked it and genuinely felt she did as well.

We shared moans and inaudible sounds of delight as we continued mating each other silly. I was sliding into her with very little effort now. I used my spare paws to reach under her belly and latch onto it, allowing me a bit more ease in thrusting in and out of her.

Unlike last time, we knew what to expect. We knew what was coming. We also knew that we were totally capable of mating. It made it more fun for me, I think, because it felt a lot more like something we were doing for fun rather than taking a big step, and ultimately, I felt more comfortable having fun with Dew rather than taking huge steps with her.

If Dew's parents stopped us from mating after we got back, I'd be lost. It was just too enjoyable to pass up and just so amazing-feeling to resist for long! Oh, the incredible feeling of her moist, heavenly insides squeezing at my penis as I thrust myself in and out of her. Mating was great!

"Mmmn, ohhhh, Dew...! Dew...!! I'm gonna...!" The intense pleasure of orgasm was nearing. I could feel the feeling surge through my body and focus in my groin. It was imminent.

"M-m-me t-too!! A-aaahh!!" screamed Dew, pushing back against me just enough for me to slide my entire length into her, and with perfect timing, too. With that, I hit my climax and felt numerous pulses of cum spew from my penis and deep, deep inside of Dew. I also felt Dew's inner walls squeezing at me even more intensely after I had orgasmed, feeling quite similar to the last time, except I paid more attention to it.

After half a minute or so of staying connected, I withdrew myself from Dew and fell onto my back, panting and with eyes closed. "Ha... haa... that was great," I said through pants.

"Yeah, mmm... it w-was..."

Ah, the lightheaded pleasure I felt was incredible. I felt so light, so weightless, and so free after releasing my load into Dew. If I opened my eyes, I wasn't sure I'd have seen anything, which would really mean we were screwed since I wouldn't be able to lead us back. Not that I'd want to right now, anyway.

"F-Florel, w-we should get back to Grey and Ena, i-in case they woke up," Dew suggested after a few minutes of contented silence.

I sat up and looked over at her. Fortunately I was awake to hear that, heh heh. "Yeah, good idea," I answered, getting up and walking over to her.

I walked over to her head and pet it to show I was right by her. She got up and wagged her tail. "Can you just, um, put your tail in front of my mouth? So you can lead me back?"

As instructed, I turned around and placed my tail in front of her, whapping her lightly with it as I did so. Whoops. "Here 'ya go," I said to her.

She didn't hesitate to lightly nip on my tail, nailing it on the first try, then gave it a tug. I nodded, even though it obviously meant nothing, and then walked back down the route we took to get to wherever the heck we were in the cave, back to see if our sleeping Mightyena friends were awake, back from our little excursion. Hehe. That was fun.

***

We got back to the entrance of the cave to see that Grey and Ena had both waken up. Grey was licking Ena's belly and didn't seem to notice us as we returned from the cavern's depths.

Dew and I looked at each other nervously as we approached the two, not expecting them to be awake, then continued walking towards them until we were just a few paces away.

"Hey, good morning," I said to them with a smile on my face.

"Hi Flora, Dew. Did you two have a good time, heh heh?" asked Grey. He was definitely insinuating something by the tone of his voice. Guess it wasn't too hard to figure out...

"Um, umm, uh... y-yes, w-we did. W-we were j-just exploring while y-you were asl-leep, that's all!" proclaimed Dew. That was a pretty lousy job at covering, I had to admit.

Grey smirked and walked over towards us. The Mightyena sniffed his nose at us. "Listen, you can either be ashamed of it and try to hide it, or you can embrace it and be happy about it." He turned his head back, but still directed his eyes towards us. "I prefer embracing it, but it's your call."

I looked at Dew to see her blushing a bit. She looked up at me with a hesitant look on her face. We both looked back to Grey, who was looking at us head on again, and sighed.

"Well, it was fun," I said, rubbing the back of my head while doing so. It was only the second time I'd ever mated, so I was still a bit shy talking about it. "Wasn't it, Dew?"

"Y-y-y-yeah... i-it was!" She nuzzled against me after saying that, though, which was unexpected, yet comforting.

"Ha! That's the spirit!" cheered Grey. "You two'll make some great mates with a bit of work, heh. My advice to you is to just keep on mating whenever you both feel like it, because you'll find yourselves more and more connected like Ena and I. Once we started, it was too much to st-"

Thud! "That's quite enough!" As expected, Ena had hit Grey. I didn't even notice her come over to us, though.

"Ow! How'd you do that?!" exclaimed the Mightyena, holding his snout with his forepaws.

"Hmph. He is right, though; mating is fun and, if you two do love each other, you'll feel that love grow. Isn't that right, Grey?"

Grey nodded his head, though he remained silent.

"Besides, you two wanted an egg together, right? If you keep mating, you'll almost certainly end up with one like mine here." She tilted her head and looked over towards her belly.

Now that she mentioned it, her belly did seem unusually large. Was that because of the egg inside of her? Did it really make her that big? Wow, I guess I didn't notice that last night.

"So, umm... what's it like being pregnant?" Dew asked.

"Well," Ena started, "I'll just be glad when it's done, let's just leave it at that. But I wouldn't trade it for the world, either."

"I mean, um, can you feel the egg inside of you?"

"Yeah, I can." Ena smiled and laid down on her side. "You can feel it if you'd like to. It might rustle..."

Without giving me a chance to think, Dew walked forward and curiously prodded at the Mightyena's belly. She looked really contemplative while doing so.

I walked over to join her, petting her back before placing my paw on Ena's stomach and rubbing it. I ran my paw across her belly and felt it kind of pulse a bit.

"Was that-?" "Did it-?" Dew and I both said in unison.

"Yeah... that's my little Poochy-to-be..."

I felt her belly pulse again. It really was a remarkable and profound moment, feeling life inside of Ena. Right now, right inside of her, was an egg containing a baby Poochyena, a real baby. It would hatch and be born... a Poochyena! A real, live Poochyena!

Just thinking that all Pokemon, myself and Dew included, started out in our mother's bellies -- or wherever they're stored inside -- and hatch... wow. Such deep thoughts. Dew would eventually lay an egg with our baby inside: an adorable Mudkip. But before that, she'd be all big like Ena and have our egg inside of her. Ow, that egg's gotta hurt on the way out!

"They're probably so worried..." said Dew in a quiet tone, almost a mumble.

"What?" I asked her, looking over to see what she was trying to say.

"I mean, my parents... what if they think I'm dead or something?" She looked really sad and distraught.

"Oh." That's right! I forgot about them. We probably should have left back home sooner rather than gone off and mated, though I was glad we chose to do the latter. Oops! "Well, at least they won't kill us when we get back because they'll be so glad we aren't dead, right?"

Dew gave a small chuckle. "Very funny..."

"Hey, I'd be glad to help take you guys home," Grey said, "but I don't think your dad wants to see much of me around you if you know what I mean, haha..." He'd gotten back up and was now by Ena's head, looking at us.

"It's alright," I answered, "you've got Ena to take care of. I know how to get back from here."

"I'm sure that my dad will forgive you after I tell him you saved us last night," said Dew.

"Your call. You don't have to tell him what I did if you don't want to. You don't even have to ever see us again... but, ha, I'd really like to see you two again, 'cuz you're a real great bunch of Pokemon!" He walked over and licked both Dew and myself.

"Thanks, Grey," I said in appreciation. "You two are really a lot nicer than I could have ever thought, plus you know we owe our relationship to seeing you two mate..."

"Ha! Anytime!" he responded.

Thud! "You better not have meant what I thought you meant..." scorned Ena.

"No! I swear that's not what I meant! Though, ha, don't you think that'd be pretty hot?"

Thud! "Just shut up, alright!" Ena looked back at the two of us after leaving a nice size bruise on Grey's forehead. "You two are welcome here anytime and, again, you have my thanks for sparing my mate. I'll always remember what you did for our family."

"It's alright," said Dew, "it was just the right thing to do. Florel, we should get going." The Mudkip walked behind me and started tugging on my tail.

"Okay, okay," I answered. "We'll see you two again, count on it! I want to see your little Poochy when he or she hatches, too!"

Grey and Ena both nodded. "Ha! You bet!" said Grey. "Now get outta here, runts, you've got worried parents to get back to!" The playful Mightyena surprised both Dew and myself by running and chasing us outside of the cave. We could both tell it was just for fun, though, especially due to how much laughter there was.

"Oh hey, you might want to take a swim in the lake before you get back to mom and dad, just in case they've got good noses, ha!" shouted the Mightyena as he chased us along. That was a pretty good piece of advice that we might have overlooked had he not have mentioned it.

We eventually fled from our playful pursuant and walked the path that would lead us back home, planning to take a quick dip in the river along the way. Dew's parents would undoubtedly be worried sick over us, especially for being in the presence of two strong Mightyena, but we both knew that not only did we meet new friends in them, we would definitely be seeing them again. Definitely.

After stopping by the river and cleaning ourselves off, as per the advice of Grey, Dew and I finally made our way back to our den to see Moyst sitting down inside and looking highly forlorn.

Cautiously, we both stepped inside, myself leading. "W-we're back..." I said hesitantly. This was gonna be hard...

"F-Florel! Dew!" Moyst ran over to us and quickly picked Dew up and locked her in a powerful hug. "Where the hell have you two been?!" she yelled.

"I'm sorry, mom... we, um, lost track of time and fell asleep at the flower fields, then got caught up in that storm..."

"Oh, Dewdrop, I'm just glad you're alright... I'm glad both of you are alright. Your father and I were worried to death over you... we were looking for you all of last night until dawn, when Torent told me to get sleep while he continued searching."

"So he's still out there?" I asked her, looking up to the tall Swampert.

"Yes, he is. I should call him back so he knows to come back here." Moyst set Dew down and stepped outside. The Swampert placed her paws around her mouth as if preparing to shout, then loosed a monstrous roar. "Torrrrreeeeennnnntttt!!"

That roar was so deafening that I fell to the ground, holding my paws against my head just trying to get the ringing to stop. Dew was doing the same, though she looked better prepared for it.

Moyst walked back inside and rushed over to hug her daughter again. "I'm so relieved that you're both okay... You have no idea how scared I was. Are you hungry?"

As if there couldn't be any more opportune timing, Dew's stomach growled loudly. "Y-yeah, starved!" After mating twice and spending a night without dinner, who wouldn't be? I knew I sure was!

Fortunately for us, Moyst had plenty of fresh berries for us to eat, so we sat down and feasted on them to satisfy our hunger until Torent returned. It felt so good being able to eat again and it made me appreciate just how great of parents Dew had. We were going to have to live up to their standard, after all...

***

Torent finally returned and gave his daughter a big hug, followed almost immediately by scolding and yelling. He was very upset that such a thing happened again.

We tried to explain the situation, omitting the part about us mating, and did decide to tell him about the Mightyena who saved us from the storm and brought us back to his cave. Torent was furious after hearing about that, though we continued explaining that they were great Pokemon and that if they planned on eating us, they would have done it by now.

Moyst seemed more understanding than her mate, but neither of them were fully convinced that the two Mightyena had good intentions. I guess it was a lot to ask, trying to get them to understand it and all...

It wasn't a surprise that Torent demanded we remain in the den for a week, but it also wasn't a surprise that Dew and I both fought that decision and pleaded it to be just for a day or two. We knew that we wouldn't be able to mate while in the den, so we absolutely needed to be free before too long.

Both Torent and Moyst eventually settled on three days of punishment before letting us leave the den again. Those would undoubtedly be the longest three days of our lives... even longer than the last time.

***

The first two days were about as boring as boring could be. I couldn't stop thinking about mating and eggs! Dew and I both tried to play inside of the den, but no matter what we did, it just didn't feel right. We spent most of our time talking, whispering when we'd have to in order to avoid drawing attention from her parents.

On the night of the second day, though, both Dew and I stayed awake to have a chance to talk. We'd gotten cozy enough to sleep in each other's arms instead of in separate ends of the room. Her parents already knew that we were in love, so we didn't have to hide our feelings quite as much. We just didn't want to mate in their presence.

"I wonder how Grey and Ena are doing..." said Dew, who was nuzzled up against my chest.

I nuzzled back and kissed her forehead. "I'm sure they're doing fine. We'll see 'em again before too long, don't worry."

She nodded in response. "Y-yeah... I... I wonder how I'll know if it worked?"

That certainly was a cryptic question. "How what worked?" I asked back, hoping for clarification.

"If, um, I- I wonder how I'll know if I have an egg or not... if our, um, mating worked..."

I couldn't help but blush thinking about it. The very thought of Dew pregnant with our egg made my stomach feel all knotted and jittery. "I'm sure you'll be able to find out. Hey, you can always ask Ena, too. She'd know."

"Y-yeah... I... I just want to mate again. It was so incredible...!"

I pet her forehead and gave it a light kiss. "Yeah, me too. Not tomorrow, but the day after... we'll be able to then."

"R-right... I just don't want to wait." She buried her head into my chest. Poor Mudkip.

"I don't either... I love you, Dew."

Dew withdrew her head from my chest and looked up at me with a look of affection. "I... I love you, too, Florel."

I pulled her in for a kiss and shared a passionate one with her, kissing her for what felt like an eternity. We couldn't mate, sure, but even just sharing our affection with a simple kiss was all I needed to get through it. Her lips always felt so nice when they were connected with mine...

After our kiss, we both said our goodnights and cuddled each other until we both fell asleep. She was the first to doze off, giving me a moment to look at and cherish the sweet Mudkip sleeping in my arms. Oh, Dew, I love you so much...

***

Before we knew it, we were free from being confined to the den and could wander out again. The first place we went was the flower fields, where we shared one of the most amazing mating experiences together. It felt like we hadn't mated in months!

After taking a dip in the nearby lake, we headed over to the cave to see Grey and Ena. They were both there, but Ena looked like she was due to lay her egg any second! The poor Mightyena was practically immobile and Grey was devoting full attention to getting her food and keeping her safe.

Dew inquired as to how she'd know if she was pregnant or not and Ena seemed to help answer her questions. She made it sound like Dew would start feeling like she was sick before she'd feel the egg inside of her.

As Dew was talking to Ena, she let out a screeching howl and started panting profusely. "Graaaah!! It's co- uhn- coming!!"

It's coming? The egg? The egg! Maybe she was going to lay her egg! Though I thought it'd be a few days from now...

Grey immediately rushed over to her in a panic, licking at her and offering to help however he could. "Ah! Babe, I don't know what to do!"

"G-g-gyaaaaah!! J-just help it- ghhuuuaaann!! Uhn, aahhgghh, help get it out of me, stupid!!" The poor female Mightyena looked to be in a considerable amount of pain. I didn't realize that giving birth would be so painful.

I briefly looked over at Dew to see her looking rather horrified at what she was seeing. "D-Dew, are you okay?" I asked, placing my arm around her.

She slowly nodded her head, though didn't actually speak her answer. I could tell that she was a bit frightened by what she was seeing. Heck, I was frightened, too! Thinking of Dew going through that... ack!

"Deeewwww, gyaaah, ungh, Florrraaa, if you want to see- ghaaauunnngghhh- ungh- the egg, go over by Grey," suggested Ena, barely able to talk through her tremendous convulsions and pain. One of these days, one of them would get my name right...

We both walked over to where Grey was and were looking at the Mightyena's red and swollen vulva. There we saw a light, creamy yellow egg start poking out of her vagina. It was pretty weird, to say the least, but just as equally awe-inspiring.

Ena released an absolutely deafening howl as her body convulsed and the egg appeared to be ripping her vagina apart, pushing more of itself outward and trying to make it to the outside world. Grey immediately reached down there and started trying to assist the egg and pry it free from Ena.

One more screech -- this one more powerful than the last -- was all it took for the egg to finally pop out of Ena and into the arms of its father, Grey. He fell back after pulling it out, grasping the egg firmly in his grip. Ena just laid there, panting heavily.

The mother Mightyena burst into tears after the ordeal. Her sobbing and crying quickly mixed in with her heavy panting.

"Are you alright, Ena?" I asked, walking over by her face to make sure she was okay.

After several more sobs, she managed to answer. "You have n-no idea... I'm in so m-much p-pain, but I f-feel s-so... happy... Grey... Grey... let me see our baby... let me... see..."

Grey was quick to get up and walk over to her, rolling the egg using his snout. Thankfully Pokemon eggs are supposed to be pretty durable. "It's... it's our egg, babe! Ha, our little egg!" The proud father licked his mate on the face, to which she smiled back at him.

"Our... egg... ah... ... Grey, I'm exhausted..."

"Get some sleep, then! I'll watch our little egg!" suggested Grey. By the time he said that, though, Ena had already shut her eyes and drifted off to sleep, as evident by her snoring.

"W-wow..." said Dew, walking over to me and Grey, finally speaking after the whole event.

"That was... wow, that was really something," I said.

"I'm a dad. I'm a dad! Woohoo, I'm a dad, I can't believe this!" The thrilled Mightyena was indeed a father now, and boy did he seem happy about it. He was dancing around all over the cave, proclaiming his accomplishment to the world. "I'm a dad!!"

Dew and I danced and cheered along with him, after realizing just what a proud moment we just witnessed, and joined his excitement and enthusiasm for the rest of the afternoon. We danced in circles around the egg and worshiped it for the amazing gift it was -- the amazing gift of life.

***

Life. Inside of that egg was a new life, the life of a little Poochyena. We watched it enter this world and exit its own. It wasn't even ours, yet I felt so attached to it. I felt it represented love, life, friendship, and everything Dew and I lived for.

I could hardly wait until I'd be blessed with an egg of my own to worship. It'd be one tough adventure, particularly for Dew, but between our love and friendship, I knew that we could overcome whatever adventure we went on.

And, just three weeks later, I learned exactly what that blessing was like. Together with my mate, my best friend, Dew, we would embark on an adventure unlike any other we'd ever been on before: raising a family.
