The simple man and the cursed Lucario
"What the hell am I doing!?"
I yelled at myself as I got out of bed and instantly went into my routine. I had been doing this for 2 years and there was nothing new in my life. I needed a day off, so I decided that after I cleaned up, I'd call in sick. Simple enough, maybe that's all I needed. Work might have just been getting to me and I was bored. It was my mental health day, so to speak. I quickly undressed and got into the shower, grabbing a shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles. The water turned to luke-warm so I wouldn't get sleepy, but not enough so it would be uncomfortable. As I washed I kept thinking about what I was doing, and what caused this sudden reaction in me. I've been going through my life nearly comatose these last 2 years. Hell all I did was work on the computer.
Nothing special happening during these days. I would get up, get ready, eat, go to work on a bus, work and deal with my sadistic boss. Then go home, eat, relax on the couch for awhile and then sleep. Nothing out of schedule had happened, nor anything interesting. Maybe I should have actually tried to become a pokemon trainer, atleast they did something interesting. Then again, I never was too much of an outdoor person. As I got out and quickly dressed in a T-shirt and blue jeans, I looked at myself in the mirror. I wasn't extremely handsome, but I thought myself above average. I had long, dyed, maroon hair that I thought looked cool in a way. I had bright blue eyes that were very apparent on my tan skin, and were always slightly covered by my hair. I was no body builder, but I had some muscles from daily exercises. I was tall, a staggering 6 foot 2 inches. Which I loved to show off now alot.
I grabbed a quick bowl of cereal and chowed down so I could go take a walk to clear my head. Before I left I quickly called and explained I was sick and wouldn't be able to come in. The boss was surprised since I had never taken a day off before so he let it go with no problems. I walked outside then admiring how bright the sun was and the odd morning grass aroma. "Stop to smell the roses" the saying came into my mind. However that day, I couldn't, for it was the time when my life was changed.
As I walked onward I noticed a figure in the distance, near the forests edge. She looked lost and confused so I went over to her. It was then when I realized what she was. She was a Lucario! One of the rarest pokemon in the world! As she caught sight of me she froze and stared at me, while neither of us moved. She was beautiful, in every possible sense of the word. Her yellow fur glistened in the sunlight along with the blue and black. Her ears were pointed sharply up in surprise, which was oddly cute. Her bright blue eyes were open wide, they held an odd sense of fear though, which for some reason upset him.
"Are you lost?" I asked her as she tensed at the silence being broken.
"I...think. I was looking for some food..." She replied quietly.
"It's really rare to see a Lucario, and even rarer one that's alone..."I noted out loud, having a researcher for a friend rubs off alittle bit.
"I was exiled. So I'm looking for food to survive." She said emotionless.
I felt a pang of pity, being cast out and looking at her, I had no idea why she would be. "I can feed you if you want..." I offered with a smile.
She looked up at me hesitantly, unsure of what she should do. She eventually said yes and followed me into my house. I noticed she seemed to be shaking, but I brushed it off as my imagination. She sat down awkwardly at my table, looking around curiously, taking the whole house in. She looked adorable then I will admit, but I fixed her a quick thing of food. I set it down in front of her and she began eating. As I went back to cleaning up my own mess I noticed a cockroach and nearly shouted "Woah!"
I looked back at the female Lucario who jumped up at my response and nearly flipped the table over. At this point I decided to finally ask "Why are you so distrustful of me!?"
"I was taught to never trust your kind. You take us and use pokemon as slaves! I'm waiting for when you will try to capture me and if you do I plan to destroy you." She bluffed, she could never kill anything. I had no idea how I knew this, but I just did. Those bright innocent eyes could never harm anyone.
"Not all of us are like that. In fact my friend is a mate with a pokemon." He explained "I'm not a pokemon trainer and I would never put such a beautiful creature in that sort of pain or confinement" Wait, did I say beautiful then?
She looked somewhat relieved but it didn't last that long, as we heard a loud twack against the window. I looked over and saw a pidgy, it attempt to get in again, and failed. It's head was getting bloody with each ram, and when I looked back at her, tears were flowing down her cheeks as she curled herself up and held her head whimpering. As soon as the pidgy actually succeeded in killing itself from the head wounds, I ran over the Lucario and she kept begging for "them to leave". Unsure, I reached over and gathered her in my arms.
As I carried her I kept saying "It's alright, it's gone..." She calmed a degree as she laid down on the couch and I contemplated what just happened. The pidgy wasn't an idiot, it knew there was glass and it kept trying to get past it. It had a burning hatred in it's eyes and it was looking past me...to the Lucario?
"I'm so sorry, I never thought they could track me here." She finally sobbed as I walked on by. I looked at her confused, and she picked up on this. "You can abandon me if you want after I tell you. Basically the whole pokemon world hates me because of what I'm foretold to do. Apparently I'll change the world, and right now every pokemon wants me dead."
As fast as this was happening, I was able to pick up on everything "Change the world?" I asked, very curious.
She was silent for a minute before saying "There's some silly legend our people have and I'm the one it's about. It says, after I do something, the Pokemon world will never be the same."
"So it could be a good change?" I asked, wondering why everyone was trying to kill her over a "change".
"Possibly, but no one takes chances." She sighed as she sat upright. She was silent for a moment, wondering what I'd do.
"Can I ask your name?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"It's Layla...What's yours?"
"It's Seth." He looked directly at her and told her "I will not abandon you, you don't deserve this. I will make sure nothing harms you."
She looked up at me shocked "But I'm a total stranger...And I'm a pokemon..." was all she could manage.
"None of that matters right now. People are trying to hurt you for no good reason, and I can't just wait and pray you are safe. I have a friend who can hide us for awhile if need be." I'd be damned if she got hurt.
"I...No one is this kind!" She was stunned.
"Layla, I am." I smiled at her and she still had the look of surprise on her face. I stopped and thought for a moment before I said "I'll be right back." I needed to see if Dante knew anything about this. I went into the next room and quickly dialed his number. Dante was still a researcher, and though his reputation went down when he went together with Sin, he still has the same knowledge and access. Unsurprisingly, he answered on the first ring, to which I replied "Hey Dante."
"Seth!?" Dante was in shock "I didn't think I'd ever hear from you again, once all the slander was out."
"I could care less if you are gay, but as of now, we have a problem."
"What?"
"I've met a Lucario today, and she's being targeted by...well all pokemon, because of a legend."
"Layla?" Dante asked, almost certain it was her.
"Yeah, I was hoping you could tell me more." What he told me was pretty much everything I already knew, except he knew what she had to do. "Once she returns the Taboo Affections, the world will never be the same."
"Taboo affections?" I had no idea what that could mean.
"I don't know, I'll call you if I learn something new."
"Alright, thanks." I hang up and walked back to Layla, who was curiously studying my remote. I smiled at this and sat next to her, she looked up at me, still alittle nervous. "You can sleep in my room, I'll take the couch." I told her.
"Um.." She was very hesitant "Could you please stay with me...I don't like being alone at night."
"Sure." I answered with a blush, her face was quite red as well. I showed her up to the room and she got in under the covers. Being as the floor was wooden, we shared the single bed very awkwardly. She eventually got comfy enough to doze off, as I stayed awake, watching her. She looked so peaceful and cute like this, no longer plagued by the worries of wake. Her mouth was slightly agape, with a quiet purr escaping it. I smiled to myself as I entered sleep, not knowing the terror of tomorrow.Chapter End Notes:Eh, I think I'll update it either tommorow or the next day.
