Chapter 3
Joe and Shara were walking along the path to the next town, to find a pokecenter so Shara can rest and get her wounds treated. Joe wanted to put her into one of his pokeballs so she didn't have to walk all the way there, but then he remembered that he promised her that he wasn't going to capture her, but Shara didn't want to leave his side anyway. It was then that she decided to strike up a conversation with him.
"Um, Joe?" she says looking up at him.
Joe turns his face towards her, expressionless as usual.
"Hmm? Yes?"
"Iv'e been meaning to ask you something."
"About what?"
"About you."
"What about me?"
"Well...." she thinks for a minute.
'I don't know if I should be sticking my nose in his business like this, but if I am going to travel with him, then I need to know.'
"Joe, how did you do that?"
Joe is a little confused by this.
"Do what?" he asks.
"Y'know, how you kick those two hitmonlee's butts the other night, iv'e never heard of a human out-kicking pokemon like them."
Joe just stares silently at her for a few seconds.
"You really want to know?"
She nods, "Uh-huh!"
Joe looks back towards the road ahead.
"It's simple, lots of training."
Shara gives him a very annoyed look, which he fails to notice.
"Well that was very vague!"
Joe snickers a little bit.
"If you want to know more, then wait till we get to a pokemon center."
"What?! But why?!"
"You'll find out when we get there."
After Joe said that, he noticed a small town that just came into view.
"Ah, finally." he says. "Now we can get your wounds treated, and I can get more supplies."
After another hour of walking they finally reach the pokemon center, where a pink haired Nurse Joy was waiting in the lobby. In the back of Joe's mind, he always wondered if the Nurse Joys may be clones of the original Nurse Joy insted of just cousins. He realizes how childish that actually sounds though and dismisses the thought. When Joe is halfway across the lobby, he stops and whispers into Shara's ear.
"Shara, I think it's best that you don't let anyone know that you can talk, we really don't need the attention right now."
Shara smiles at him and nods.
When Joe was walking up to the desk, Nurse Joy took notice of him and took her eyes off of the files she was reading to offer him some services.
"Welcome! How can I help you?" Nurse Joy says.
"My zangoose needs healing please."
Nurse Joy then looked down at the zangoose and noticed the bandages wrapped around her chest.
"Oh dear! What happened to her?"
"Can you heal her or not?"
Joy stares at him and just shrugs.
"Sure, and do you need a room?"
Joe replies with a simple, "Yes."
"How many nights?"
"Just 2."
Joy then turns around and grabs a room key off one of the hooks it was haning from and hands it to Joe. Joe takes the key and kneels down to Shara and pets her on the head before nurse Joy took her by the hand, er claw, or paw, or whatever you want to call it, and lead her into the back room for healing. Joe made it to his room and went inside afer unlocking the door with his key. The room is what he was expecting it to be, two beds, one bathroom, a nightstand with a clock on it and a phone, and a window with a curtain covering it. Joe decided that he needed to use the bathroom first, since he hadn't gone since this morning. When he was finished, he washed his hands and went over to his bed, taking his pack off, his hoodie, and his shoes, and falling flat on his back onto the bed, letting out a large sigh.
An hour later, Shana finally walked in and all her bandages had been removed. Joe raises his head and sees her smiling at him.
"So, feeling any better?" he says.
"Much better!" she says.
"Well that's good."
He lays his head back down.
"Don't forget Joe, you promised me that you would explain to me about how your able to fight like the way you do."
Joe then raised up, sitting on the edge of his bed, with his feet on the floor.
"I guess I did, didn't I? Well then come a little closer, I want to show you something."
Curious, Shara walks on all fours up to him and sits on the grounds infront of him. Joe then rolls up both of his pant legs to reveal what appear to be two large ankle weights strapped around his calves. He then realeases the straps on both of the weights and they fall to the ground with a surprisingly loud thud. Shara just looks at them bewildered, and then looks up at Joe.
"That's it? Just some ankle wieghts? That's all you wanted to show me?"
Joe smirks a little at her reaction.
"Pick them up." he says.
Shara just shrugs and attempts to pick one of them up with one of her claws, but she was surprised when it didn't budge!
"What the?"
She then places her other claw around it trying to pick it up, but it still wouldn't budge at all! She then tried to put all the strength she had into lifting it, but Joe had to stop her from straining herself because she only recently recovered.
"Hey, woah, hold on now! Don't push yourself! You don't want to get reinjured do you? Besides, there is now way you can pick them anyway."
Shara gives up, panting a little bit, and looks up at Joe.
"Jeez, Joe! How much do these things weigh!"
Joe just smiles at her and laughs a little.
"Two-thousand pounds each." he says.
Shara's ears just perk up real high, she goes bug-eyed staring at him, and her jaw hits the floor. She couldn't belive what she just heard!
"What?! No way!" she says loudly.
"Way."
She then remembered something.
"Wait a minute? Were you wearing these when you were fighting those hitmonlees?!"
Joe just nods.
"And you were that fast?!"
"Yep."
"BUT HOW?!"
Joe sighs.
"Like I said before, just lots of training."
Shara could easily understand that. Wearing weights like these all the time would make anyone super fast and strong, but she knew that there was more to it, she was no idiot.
"c'mon Joe, I know there is more to it than that!"
"What do you mean?"
"You definatley had some sort of martial arts training! What kind was it? And who taught you?"
Joe seems to shy away when she asked that.
"That's.....not important."
Shara notices that Joe seems like that he doesn't want to tell her, making even more curious.
"Aw, c'mon Joe! Tell me!"
"I told you, it's not important."
"Please!"
Joe is getting a little annoyed by this.
"I said no."
"C'mon, it can be our little secret!"
"Drop it Shara."
"Darn it Joe! Why can't you just tell me!"
"Because I just don't fucking want to! Ok!"
Shara cringes and backs away from Joe with a frightened look on her face. Joe realized what he had just done and looks away in shame.
"Shara, i'm....i'm so sorry, I didn't mean to...."
Joe looks back at her and notices how scared she is, making him feel worse.
"I...I need to go out for a little while, to get some supplies."
Joe then gets off the bed, puts his shoes, hoodie, and pack back on, and exits through the door without saying another word. Shara still in the room a little scared was thinking to herself.
'What's with him? Why did he get so upset from that question? What could possibly be so bad about it that he didn't want to tell me?'
Shara is sitting on the floor lost in her own thoughts, while Joe has exited the pokecenter, lost in his own thoughts on the way to an item shop.
'Man, why did I do that? I mean, yeah she was really pressing the issue, but I shouldn't have yelled at her like that! God i'm such an asshole!'
A few minutes later, he arrived at the shop, bringing him back to reality. Joe thought he should apologize to Shara by buying her a nice gift. As he was browsing the shop, picking things he needed for the trip, like food, potions, and whatnot, he saw a pink bow he thought would be perfect for her. Joe went up the the cashier and paid the money for the items. On his way out though, a shadowy figure on the corner of the street took notice of him.
'What the? Is that Joe?! I haven't seen him in years! Oh, I haven't seen him since that day!' the shadowy figure thought to himself.
'This is too good an oppurtunity! You may have beaten me last time Joe, but this time, I WILL KILL YOU!'
