Episode 1 - Mt: Annex
"To be free is something you must cherish, embrace it and never let it go even if your life depends on it, I learned this lesson the hard way, my grip on freedom was just too weak and I could not hold on to it, I lost it all on September 26, 2055."
- Faicel Naeras, December 25, 2057.
These are the famous words of the Umbreon who lived in a small human-free area in the Hoenn region near Lilycove city; it was as if it was a Pokemon paradise, a "No Catching Zone" so their friends and families would not be taken away by young and upcoming Pokemon trainers. The small area uninhabited by humans was annexed on September 26, 2055, the day when every single Pokemon who lived in this area was captured by a group of Anti-Pokemon Cultists and taken to a Hidden Base which's location was unknown by the Hoenn Military while the cultists reaped the benefits of their new land, to build whatever they want for no Pokemon lived there any longer.
Faicel Naeras, an Umbreon, with his daughter Bonnie, a Skitty, was captured in the process of this annex and was taken to the dreaded Hidden Base as well. It was a truly horrible thing to deal with, especially since Bonnie was only a few months old in Pokemon years. The captured Pokemon were taken by boat to the Hidden Base, the human cultists were heavily armed with weaponry and protection, and there was no way any of the Pokemon could escape though some tried it. A Shiftry still kept his grip on his freedom, he would rather die than become a prisoner and he was killed by gunfire. Faicel will never forget what that man said, the man who grabbed the Shiftry's body and threw it overboard for the Sharpedos to snack on, "Let the rest of you filthy Pokemon take this as a warning that rebellion will not be tolerated, say goodbye to the freedom you owned, it is gone."
Even with this warning, more and more of the countless Pokemon who were transported by sea began to rebel against the Anti-Pokemon cultists, they were all killed and thrown overboard except for a Tauros who was used for a meal in the captain's office.
It has been 3 days and the captured Pokemon have only had one meal the entire time, just a few leftovers from the crew's meal on that Tauros. All of the Pokemon were kept in the lower sector of the boat within small walled spaces as if they were living the life of a racer Rapidash. It was like they were in a barn with small wooden walls around them that they called "Cells". Faicel was handed a plate full of bones with little scraps of meat stuck on them. He carefully scraped the meat off the bones and gave the entire plate to Bonnie, but before she received it one of the cultists pistol-whipped Faicel in the bad of the head. He groaned and fell to the floor near his daughter whose eyes flooded with tears so quickly.
"The children who cannot work don't deserve to eat, unless she can prove herself when we get to the Base."
Faicel looked up at the human and knew that he could not do anything, he felt weak and helpless against an obviously superior force. He could not speak the human language, so there was no way he could plead for him to give his daughter some food, but he just bowed his head and turned away from the human who stepped out of the enclosed area.
Bonnie shut her eyes and began to cry, seeing her father being in that type of pain just filled her up with so much sadness and so much hate. "Bonnie." Faicel whispered with his dark face near Bonnie's light pink and yellowish face, "Here, eat this before they come back." He pushed the plate towards Bonnie with his forehead and turned around to face forward so no one would get suspicious. "But daddy..."
"Bonnie, you need the food more than I do, I can handle myself longer than you can, now hurry, eat before they come back."
"Yes sir." Bonnie obeyed; quickly eating her given food before any more cultists was to come in and find out that Faicel had disobeyed their rules.
"That was truly a noble thing you did for her." a female voice broke through the loud and frightened conversations of the prisoners around them. Faicel turned to where the voice supposedly originated and found an Absol eyeing him from a small half-walled cell to the left, "My name is Midnight, may I ask what yours is?"
"Faicel."
Bonnie quickly finished her food and pushed it back to her father's paws as another cultist patrolled the area, it was the same one from before who checked their little cell specifically, "That food better be in your stomach and not that little slacker's."
Faicel shook his head as a response as the cultist gave him a long and hard look, his dark green eyes burning into Faicel's charcoal black eyes.
"I'll believe you this time, but only because I'm in a good mood, but if I find out you were lying... you'll be thrown off this boat in pieces" He departed from the under section of the boat and stepped outside where the air was cooler.
"He thinks that is being in a good mood?" Midnight began, "That man is evil, all of the humans here are evil, they are hateful people who all hate Pokemon." She growled.
Faicel stroked Bonnie's forehead with his right paw as she yawned and crawled into a fetal position to go to sleep. Midnight loomed her head over her cell and purred at the image of Bonnie's cute face. "She's such a beautiful Skitty." Midnight complimented with a friendly smile on her face.
"Thank you," Faicel responded, his eyes lit up when she gave his daughter such a kind comment, "Thank you very much."
"Your wife was a Delcatty?" Midnight asked.
Faicel did not respond, he looked away from her and concentrated his eyes on Bonnie who softly purred in her sleep, "Oh, sorry." Midnight apologized when she realized she may have said something she should not have.
"You don't have to be sorry, it was not your fault she died," Faicel started, "She died giving birth to Bonnie, Sage was everything to me... and now she has been reborn in the form of a child, Bonnie is my greatest treasure, she is like my wife plus a whole different person."
"I understand how you feel, though I'll never know the joys of having my own child." Midnight softly said.
Faicel looked back up at Midnight who had a barely noticeable frown on her delicate face; she was truly a beauty for Faicel's eyes to lie on after 3 days of pure horror in wondering if he was going to live to see the next minute after the next minute and the next minute after that.
"I don't know how to respond to that... but all I can say is that having children could be a great joy and a great sadness at the same time... I gained something perfect but I lost perfection in its fullest. I just wish Bonnie's birth would not have been so tragic."
A female cultist them came in to patrol the room, she wore what all of the other cultists wore, a suit of padded armor that gave her the appearance of an Assassin, all black with detailed markings on her shoulder pads and some sort of ancient writing on the gloves. She had black hair that flowed down to her back and that covered her eyes adding to the black lipstick over her lips, but only half of her face showed, the left half was visible but the right half was blocked off by a headband.
"You little creatures are pathetic," she taunted all of the Pokemon in the room, "Look at you, eating the leftovers of a meal almost 3 days ago... such shame."
"Oh yeah?" a male voice broke out of the silence; it was a Breloom, "Shut the hell up you bitch. Go suck a cock why don'cha." But of course the human could not understand what this Breloom was saying but she took it as an offense how he raised his voice at her and fired one bullet at him without remorse. The loud snap woke Bonnie from her sleep as tears instantly soaked up her dry eyes. Faicel placed his paw over her mouth so she could cry without making a noise.
"Anyone else...?" the human asked, her eyes burning with anger at all of the Pokemon in the area, "Good, let's keep it that way, I may not have known what that bugger said... but you'd best not use that tone of voice with me." She departed.
A Breloom, most likely the girlfriend or wife of the Breloom who was killed, wept over his loss, but she could only weep silently. Faicel and Midnight gave her a hard look and turned back to each other, "That's horrible." Midnight said.
Faicel did not answer; he just turned back to the female Breloom weeping over her husband's body. He saw himself as that female weeping over Sage's body, his wife's body. It almost brought tears to his eyes but that was broken when the entire boat suddenly jerked sideways. Faicel grabbed Bonnie and held her tight as everything and everyone slid towards the walls. Faicel let out a yelp as he hit the opposing wall with full force. Bonnie gasped and looked up at her father to see his face scrunched up in a painful-looking expression.
"Daddy?"
"I'm alright Bonnie, just worry about yourself, please."
"What was that...?" Midnight asked as she too regained herself and stood up on all 4 of her paws.
"We could have arrived at our destination." Faicel answered as he set Bonnie down and cracked his neck by twisting it to the sides.
A loud voice over a speaker broke through everyone's conversations, "Disembark." Is all the male said, his voice boomed through the room all of the Pokemon were placed.
They obeyed the man's orders and started to disembark.
As they neared the exit with the cultists guiding their paths, the smell of ash and smoke became more and more intense. The only thought that came to Faicel's mind was that they were maybe near a forest fire or something like that, but he was horribly wrong. The boat had dropped them on the foothill of a volcano that was formed in the middle of the ocean, a Composite Volcano.
"Welcome to your new home." The man over the speakers announced, "It will not have to be as bad as it may look, if you follow our orders and work diligently... you will reap the benefits of our new colony... Krissnira: The Home of the Anti-Pokemon Cult."
These people were going to convert these innocent Pokemon into slaves to create a home for all who hate them, all who hate the entire Pokemon race. This boat carried only 150 Pokemon, 138 after all of the rebellion that has been occurring. There was no way out, they were miles away from real civilization, miles away from the Hoenn region.
"Move it along everyone." The female human who killed the Breloom just for raising his voice at her said. Some of the Pokemon who disembarked from the boat by a large plank which connected to land were moving slowly due to their muscles finally being able to move freely.
"You..." the wife of the Breloom who was murdered said under her breath, "I'll get you back." Only Faicel heard her say this. He wondered what she was going to do, but he figured he should worry about that later; he needed to figure out what was going to happen to himself first.
The black land, heated up by the lava flowing down certain pathways to the sidelines, was rough under all of the Pokemon's feet; they were forced up to the top of the Composite Volcano which towered high almost 500 feet, luckily the path up the volcano was a proper elevation for manual travelling. So many colors rode up that hill, so many Pokemon with so many different postures and body parts, some with wings, some with paws, some with hands, some with fur and some with no fur. The most noticeable Pokemon was Midnight with her bright white fur and the black, glowing gem that resided on her forehead.
"Bonnie," Faicel whispered to his daughter who he carried on his back after she collapsed earlier; he had to pick her up before the cultists became impatient, "Don't be afraid, we'll get out of here in no time... I promise you."
Bonnie looked down at him, he had a fake smile on his face, she knew that was not true, he did not know when or if they would get out of there alive.
The first 200 feet up have been passed.
He has heard so much about the Anti-Pokemon cult, they all hate Pokemon, but he has never heard of them abducting Pokemon and bringing them here to this volcano that did not even seem to be on the entire Hoenn region map.
"Quicken the pace!" a cultist behind Midnight yelled, he lifted up his arm and ripped Midnight's skin with a whip. She screamed in pain which caught Faicel's attention instantly, he turned around and walked towards her but she called out to him, "No Faicel, I'm alright, just keep going, don't worry about me."
Without a word, Faicel turned back and continued moving with the rest of the Pokemon.
"Now you listen to me," the man who whipped Midnight whispered as he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her towards him, "Slacking will not be tolerated here, either you do everything perfectly, like a good little Pokemon, or your future will end, right then and there when you fail to uphold your perfection... I'll be waiting until you slip up and when you do... I'm going to have me a jolly good time." He then spit in her face and shoved her off in the travelling direction, towards the top of the volcano.
The 500 foot hiking was nearly over, they figured they would be at least 489 feet by now, or so they guessed by the looks of it.
"Daddy," Bonnie started as she began to pant to cool herself down, "It's getting real hot..."
It really was.
"I know sweetie, it'll be alright, I'm getting hot too but it's just..." he was stopped short when they finally reached the top, him and all 138 of these Pokemon, they had finally figured out that this Volcano was active. Lava boiled at such a horrific temperature, by this time every single Pokemon that could not sweat was panting to keep themselves cool.
"You will be creating a Base inside of this Volcano, but consider yourselves lucky... the outer wall of the Base has already been built with a metal that can survive the horrifying temperatures of this Volcano: Mt. Annex." A man broke out from the silence, he was in the same protection as the rest of the cultists, but he looked special somehow, as if his armor was unique in its own way but Faicel could not place out on the table exactly what that "something" was. Also, there was something wrong with his eyes, it was as if this man was so evil that his pupils have changed into a bright yellow, literally, this human's eyes were glowing bright yellow like electricity from Pikachus. Around his wrinkly face was a goatee on his chin, a very long goatee that weighed down to his chest, his hair was curly and combed backwards, it looked like little black flames were on his head.
"Mt. Annex...?" almost everyone repeated.
"Now," the man continued; wiping the salty sweat off of his forehead and dangling his hand so the water would wring off, "You may understand me, but I cannot understand you, but let me tell you one thing... Pokemon scum... if I sense any disloyalty, any slacking, any rebellious actions... believe me... I will end your life with much pleasure. Dismissed."
As soon as the man completed his speech, the cultists who led the large group of Pokemon up the volcano pushed them forward through a small pathway down the volcano so no one would fall to their deaths for lack of climbing skills. This path led straight to the Base the man from before was talking about, but as soon as they entered, it was as if they had stepped into a construction site, the only things completed were the cells where the Pokemon were required to sleep after a long day's work and the walls around them, everything else was just emptiness.
"You are to sleep in a cell tonight," the woman who murdered the Breloom from before said, still only the left half of her face visible, "As many to a cell as there is room, all required to sleep on the floor, mating is strictly prohibited..." by this time half of the Pokemon groaned, "... And lastly, only the workers are allowed food, the cubs that cannot pull their fair share will be denied food until the point of execution..." Faicel thought about Bonnie at this moment, a wave of horror passed through him, he knew deep in his heart that she could not stand hard labor for she had a disfigured right paw, she could barely even walk properly, "Dismissed."
**
Faicel, Bonnie, Midnight, and a female Vulpix by the name of Niya were placed in one cell which neared the ending of the hallway, the ending where all of the Pokemon were introduced to this Base that everyone now knew as "Hell's Concentration Camp". Bonnie lay asleep with Faicel in the eastern corner of the cell while Midnight and Niya lay on the Western corner. All they could do was wait for a meal to come, just sitting there like a stump in the ground.
"This is terrible, how could it have all blown up in our faces like this?" Midnight asked as she laid face first on the cold, cement floor that luckily did not melt due to the entire base being surrounded in a material with a melting point higher than lava itself.
"Yeah, we had everything in the No Catching Zone, everything we could ever want, and now we are taken away from it so abruptly?" Niya muttered.
"Guys," Faicel interrupted, "There is no way we are going down so easily, right now my hopes are high that we will be rescued, the Hoenn Military will see us through."
"Please Umbreon," Niya started.
"My name is Faicel."
"Fine... Faicel, try not to get OUR hopes too high, I know for a fact that we are not getting out of this... it's over."
"Don't talk like that Niya," Midnight cut back in, "I think Faicel is right, to have a little faith can't hurt, maybe we will get out of here alive, maybe we won't, but that is a decision for our destinies."
"Destinies?" Niya muttered in response, "A bunch of universal propaganda, how can you actually believe that trash?"
"You know, for a female... you're kind of nasty." Faicel said under his breath.
"What was that, darkness?"
"My name is Faicel..."
"I know that, but look at you over in that shade, the only reason I can see you is because of those ridiculous yellow rings tattooed all over your body."
"Niya, stop it right now!" Midnight snapped in Faicel's defense, he was surprised that she would even try to defend him.
"Why should I? I know we're going to die here, what's the point of even keeping my manners? I want to let out all my rage before I am buried with those horrid feelings."
"Your rage? What do you have against Umbreons?!" Faicel snapped back.
He gave her an infuriated look.
"Your kind killed my mother, the only thing I had in this world after my father vanished."
Faicel was shocked, so shocked that his frown became a blank look as soon as Niya finished up her sentence.
"2 Umbreons robbed us in the dead of night in the No Catching Zone; they killed my mother only for the berries she picked the night before, a precious life for a bunch of berries, and my father disappeared so long ago... the only suspects were Umbreons."
Faicel was speechless, he had no idea what to say to Niya, for those 2 Umbreons to ruin the reputation of all Umbreons in the world for just one Vulpix was just something barely heard of.
"You and I are not going to get along here, Umbreon," Niya started, Faicel gulped, "You may have Midnight convinced with your little 'innocent' behavior, but I know exactly what you are deep inside of your heart... and if you make one slip-up, let me have one reason to doubt you... I will make sure that your future is nothing, just like what your kind did to my mother, she was going to do such great things... and your kind ended her for stupid berries, and even if you get on one of my nerves... I'll kill you just like how your kind killed my mother: Without pity or remorse..."
