Longhearts by aven

Bring the rain

Aven tapped his foot, seeming a little impatient, and surprised Laura didn't beat him there. After an hour or so Laura slowly made her way to the tree where Aven had left his mark. "Woah, are you okay Laura? you look weak." Aven said, noticing slight dark shades under her eyes. "I'm fine, just tired i guess. No luck getting to sleep last night, or the night before, or before that." "Hmmm, anything happen those nights that you think kept you awake?" "You mean you didn't hear it?" Asked a surprised Laura. "Hear what?" "The loud screams? They never stopped, not for a single second. Whatever it was, it was in tremendous pain." "Wait a minute..." Aven thought to himself "Three nights, loud screams, did she mean...!" "My god, Laura. Your talking about me." Said Aven. "You can't be serious. What could possibly make you scream like that?" "Well, i'll say this....the Collectors are very real. They're the reason my fur isn't red and i still recognize you." Laura only stood and stared with disbelief at what she just heard. "But, that means you have to have been broken, doesn't it?" " I don't really know how to explain it, but in order to keep seeing you, every night i lay awake writhing in pain." "But why would you do that, there's no reason for anyone to have to go through so much pain. So tell me Aven, why?" Laura eye's were tearing a little by this time. "Because you told me not to give up, and i don't plan on losing you." At that exact moment they both burst into tears, collapsing to the tree in an embrace that the term "Loving" wouldn't even begin to describe. The beedrill above made soft humming noises that eventually put Laura to sleep. Aven closed his eyes and sat there not wanting to ruin this moment, Although she probably would have stayed there all day and night if it weren't for one little problem. Aven started to wimper once more, which awoke Laura. "Aven..." Spoke Laura still a little groggy. "The pain's coming again, isn't it?" "Yeah...but i've got an idea. I'll make sure you get some sleep tonight. And please don't worry about me. Good night Laura." Spoke Aven. They shared a quick kiss before getting up to return home. But Laura noticed Aven had not run off in the usual direction for his home. "Just what exactly are you up to Aven." Thought Laura to herself. Unknown to Aven, Laura had not taken her usual way home tonight either.

Aven quickly made his way past branches, bushes, and anything else that got in his way. Turning sharply before hitting the edge of the cliffs, a cave came into view in the distance. He dashed in, not caring to see if it was occupied or not, and made his way to the farthest parts of the cave where he was certain no sound would escape. As his screams started to slowly fill the air, hundereds of zubat swarmed, seeming like all they wanted was to leave this noisy cave. Unfortunately for Aven, he had forgotten to close up the cave entrance with something, so the cave acted as an amplifier, the echos making his screams louder than usual. He did as he usually did and hoped for day, but in the middle of the night, he started having trouble getting out his screams of pain, all that came out was uncontrollable coughing and wheezing. Aven was happier than ever to see the sun rise, and upon exiting the cave he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. There on the wall outside the cave was Laura, sleeping. "Laura?" Aven tried to say, but he could barely hear himself talk, he strained with his words untill he finally gave up and gently nudged her awake. "Oh...hey Aven, listen i need to talk to you." Aven had heard that before and almost burst into tears that very second, but he held it, hoping it was something good. "You shouldn't have to go through that kind of pain over me, im not worth it." Aven attempted a reasurring "yes you are!" but sadly nothing came out, he just stood there mouthing his words. "now you've lost your voice, your slowly killing yourself Aven, and i don't wanna be the one causing you to do it. It's never been my goal to cause anyone pain, and by staying with you that's exactly what im doing. It's not that i don't love you Aven, it's that i can't." She was standing now, but staring at her feet, looking away from Aven, softly crying. "This is for your sake Aven, by staying im killing you, therefore by leaving i'll be saving you. I'm sorry Aven. Goodbye." She ran fast, never looked back. Aven hadn't realized how much damage he had done to himself, or how much guilt he had put on Laura. It only made matters worse that he hadn't gotten to say one final word to her, no last goodbye, no I love you to, nothing. the emotions going through his head all mixed together and told Aven to forget everything, but his mind was set on one thing right now, self-destruction. Slowly walking towards the cliffs, tears runing down his face, Aven mouthed his final goodbye, not to laura, but to everyone. He closed his eyes as his foot left the ground and never came back down, he began his plummet for the ocean.
