Chapter 21

Journey to Another World 2
Ch. 2

So after checking the map one more time we walked outside the Pokemon center. I walked over to a bench at the edge of the street and sat down. Jenavee sat on my right while Rena jumped up onto my lap. I could tell that Jenavee really didn't want her to do that, by the psychic power that was starting to build around her.

"Ok you two. Calm down. We will be leaving here just as soon as I make sure we have enough supplies." Jenavee nodded and Rena looked up at me. After checking for another few minutes I saw that we needed some thing. So doing some last minute shopping at he local poke mart, we headed off. "Rena would you like to ride in your ball or would you like to walk with us?" Rena happily bounced around me then rubbed against my leg. "Well I'll take that as you want to walk with us." So the three of us walked North to Floaroma town.

Along the way we met up with several other young trainers who by the look of them were just on the second or third day out from home. Because many of them had large packs on their backs and I knew from my hiking days back in Scouts that if you carried more than a certain percentage of your own weight on your back you would wear yourself out really fast. I just wanted to laugh at some of these kids whose packs were so big and stuffed with so many things that they probably wouldn't ever need, and be dead tired by the end of the day.

So I decided to take advantage of that and challenged a few trainers to some battles. Of course Rena would have nothing to do with the battle, but Jenavee was more than happy to step in. The first battle that we were in she didn't know how much her psychic powers had grown and threw a Shinx over a few trees. When she realized what she had done she looked back to me and saw me give her a understanding nod. After that no trainer would battle us. They would either just throw a card at us, showing that they gave up before we even got to them, or just run off. So I decided to work with Rena and Jenavee.

We walked away from the main road and I sat down and leaned against a tree. Rena walked over to me and sat down in my lap while Jenavee sat next to me and put her head on my shoulder.

"Jenavee I was wondering if you would be upset with me if I tried to work with Rena for the rest of the day?" She slowly turned to look over at Rena, then back to me.

"No I do not mind, but I would like to ask a favor though."

"Sure." I replied.

"After you are done with her, could you help me as well. I feel like I threw that Shinx a little hard." I laughed then nodded.

"Of course Jenavee, I understand. I hope that trainer finds that Pokemon." "Since you evolved into a Gardevoir, you haven't really been able to see the extent of you abilities. But I would have to say, that until we do, we should probably stay away from other trainers." I pulled Jenavee into a hug and looked about to see if anyone was watching. When the coast was clear I gave her a quick kiss, and rubbed Rena on her head. "Ok Rena, I know you really don't want to battle but I would like to have you know a few attacks, just in case something happens."

She looked up at me with a scared look on her face. "Oh it's nothing to be scared over. The only reason I want to you to know a few attacks is in case you are in trouble and need to defend yourself. Like that time you were caught by those Beedrills." Rena shivered when I mentioned the word Beedrill. "Do you understand?" She nodded. So Jenavee took her head off my shoulder and Rena jumped off my lap. Rena and I walked a little ways away from the tree so that when we would practice, Jenavee wouldn't get hit by a stray attack. I knelt down so that I was closer to eye level with Rena.

"Ok Rena, I would like to know if you already know any attacks?" She shook her head. "That's ok, that's why we are here." I rubbed her head. "Well the first attack that I'm going to teach you is a tackle attack." She looked up at me with a confused look on her face. "The way that you do it is simple. All you have to do is run at me and try and knock me down. Just like you wanted to give me a big hug but you run to fast at me." A big smile spread across her muzzle. "Do you understand?" She nodded. "Ok, I'm going to walk a little ways away, then you try and tackle me." She happily gave me a soft bark. So I stood up and walked a little ways away then knelt down again.

"This thing he calls a tackle attack sounds like fun. I can not wait to try it."

"Ok Rena, just like I told you." With that Rena gave off a happy little bark then started to quickly run at me. It was so funny to see her run at me. She had her tongue hanging out while she ran towards me. But just before she was about two arm lengths away from me she jumped to the side, then jumped at me. The way she changed direction at almost the last second caught me off guard, so when she hit me I fell onto my back with her on my chest. Once I was fully on my back Rena started to lick my face. In-between licks I could hear laughter. I couldn't see who was laughing but I had a pretty good guess who it was.

Finally after getting a full tongue bath, Rena stopped and jumped off me. I wiped my face and looked over to see who was laughing and sure enough saw Jenavee with a hand over her mouth. Obviously failing to hide her laughter.

"Well she definitely caught you off guard." I nodded then picked Rena up and gave her a big hug.

"Well done Rena, you really surprised me when you jumped around there at the last second. Well done." With that I gave her another big hug. She started to croon a little when I held her close. Just then I heard someone clear their throat and I set Rena back down. "Well it seems that you've gotten down the tackle attack. Now if your up to it I thing that I could probably teach you one or two more. What do you say Rena?" She happily gave me another little bark.

"If what he is going to teach me is like that tackle attack, then I can not wait."

I was still surprised at how fast she moved that when I thought about it, the attack couldn't be called a tackle attack. It should be called a quick tackle attack, or just a quick attack. I smiled down at her. To think that no more than two or three weeks ago, I was just some other kid playing a silly game. But here I was, living it. I reached down and rubbed Ruby's head.

For the rest of the day I worked with Ruby. I taught her how to use Counter and screech. Though she really didn't like to use screech, since it hurt her ears so much. I sat down with Jenavee and Rena slowly made her way over to us and sat in my lap.

"You did very well today Rena." She looked up at me with tired eyes and gave me a sleepy smile, then set her head down on my lap.

"I would have to say that I am very impressed. I would have never thought you would be able to teach her how to battle." I looked over at her and shook my head.

"I'm sorry Jenavee but the moves that I taught her were only for her own protection." She gave me a questioning look. "When I taught her that Tackle attack, it was so that once her attacker was on the ground from the attack, she could get away while it was trying to get back up. Counter, was the same thing as tackle, but Screech was only to weaken her opponent so she could use Tackle and have her opponent down for a longer period of time."

"Oh, now I understand. But I thought that you were going to have her help us in getting us through that mountain." I nodded.

"True that was my first thought, but when I started to think about it. I realized that I had forgotten a promise that I had made her." Jenavee looked away for a second then turned back to me with wide eyes.

"You promised her that you would return her to her mother. Right?" I nodded.

"And that is a promise that I intend to keep. Though when she meets up with her mother and decides that she still wishes to travel with us, then I wont stop her." I rubbed Ruby on her head and she let off a small whimper. I looked up and saw that the sun was getting along in the day. "Well it's getting late, so I guess we should make camp near here and get a good nights sleep." Jenavee nodded. I slowly and carefully picked up Rena, then we went off in search of a place to sleep for the night.

And how little did I know that my sword fighting skills were going to be put to test once more.
