Chapter 5
We stayed there for a long time. I was extremely glad that Linda hadn't ratted us out about that night, otherwise, we would have been out of here faster than you could say 'Anthro.'
We stayed in the house that was allowed to us. It had been almost 2 months since we arrived at Kyodeon Town, and Taiyala was getting along in weight. Nurse Joy came in almost constantly nowadays, accompanied with a few of the children. Any of them at all seemed to be Chansey Evolution Morphs. The last time Nurse Joy came in the house, she brought along two little ones that seemed to be Happinys, so I asked.
"Yes, of course they are. They are going to be taking up the mantle someday, and they need to know how to do these things!" was Nurse Joy's simple answer.
I thought that this whole thing was getting a bit too real, but at the same time, there was also this nagging feeling in the back of my mind.
Every day, I checked with Martha to see the movements of our enemies in all of this. Fortunately, they seemed to be staying away from Kyodeon. After the initial scan, I always went out of my way to take each of my newly acquired Pokemon out to test their abilities. The Rapidash was an excellent choice if I needed speed. Then, there was the Gardevoir. She was amazing, actually understanding of the whole situation and ready to help in any way she could. It helped that she could convey what she wanted with her mind. A whole lot easier than having to guess what she wanted. Also, she had an incredibly great gift, which was to alter the minds of others in the vicinity, and she could control it to such a degree that she could just have one person at the end of her strings. Which is why, when I took her out one day...
"You know, you have a great and amazing ability. Did you ever recieve a name?"
'No, I do not believe I did. I believe I was always called my species.'
"Species? Oh, you mean what you are. Well, may I name you?"
'If that is what you desire, then name me as you will.'
"Not what I meant. I meant that, do you want a different name than just being called what you are? I'm not saying that I'm giving you a name. I'm asking if you want me to call you something different. After I present you a name, you can tell me if you like it, or not!"
'Well, then, I would say that I would appreciate a new name.'
"Alright, then. I see how you act when you control someone's mind, and it's as if you're a puppeteer and those people are your puppets. May I call you Meiyura?"
'What is Meiyura?' she asked.
"It is a combination of two Geran words. Mei, being the word 'Object,' and yura, being 'controller.' Your name would basically mean object controller, or Puppeteer."
She seemed to think about it for a minute, then she finally said 'Why not? I like it, and it suits my talents. I accept your naming of me, and I shall now be known as Meiyura.'
"Alright. Thank you." I said.
'Whatever for? If there is to be someone thanking someone, then it should be me thanking you for giving me a name.'
"I am thanking you, because people like you help unjumble the thoughts in my head. They seem clearer."
At that moment, there was a call. "Den?"
It was Taiyala. "I'm over here, honey!" I called back to her.
After a few minutes of rustling leaves, Taiyala appeared and saw me with Meiyura. "What are you doing with her?" she asked in an accusing tone.
"Nothing! I'm just assessing her talents."
"Well, why aren't you doing that with me?" she asked.
"Well, that would be because you're over halfway through your pregnancy, and it's starting to show."
She looked at herself. It was true. She had gained quite a bit of weight over the time that they had been staying there. It seemed that she was getting pretty close to her due date, even though it wasn't expected for at least a week. "This is nothing! Watch!" and with that, she ran as fast as she could towards the tree. As she reached it, however, she gasped and fell to the ground.
Me, seeing that there was something wrong, I ran up to her. "Taiyala! Are you alright?"
'She is in labor.' Meiyura said to me.
"What?! She's not due for another week!"
"Ohh, Nurse Joy said a week, but the baby's saying now! GET IT OUT OF ME!" she screamed to the sky.
I started to pick her up, but she screamed in pain. I then had an idea. "Meiyura, can you lift her with your powers so we can get to the town?"
'I can, and I shall.' She blinked once, and her eyes instantly glowed purple. Then, Taiyala was surrounded by a purple light, and lifted off the ground effortlessly.
"Ohh!" Taiyala moaned out.
I felt as if I needed to do something, but couldn't figure out what to do. I then had a brain fart, and grabbed her hand, and held it to my chest. As I did, however, she gripped it as hard as she could, and would not let go.
We then proceeded to the town as fast as we could. By the time we had gotten there, she had eased up a bit on the squeezing, and I called out "NURSE JOY! A WEEK EARLY!"
Just then, two Happiny children came up and said "We anticipated for this, and had everything prepared. Head for the Center." at the same time. It was a bit creepy, but I didn't contest it. I just ran as fast as I could to the hospital, Taiyala floating alongside me all the way, thanks to Meiyura.
We reached the Center, and there were two Chansey morphs waiting. The one on the right said "How far apart are the pains?"
I wasn't sure what she was talking about, but then Taiyala screamed again, and squeezed my hand, and I knew what she was talking about. "Second one, it was about 2 minutes between them."
"Okay, she's making good progress. Miss," the same Chansey morph addressed Meiyura. "Can I have you bring her to the back and get her on a table?"
"I'M NOT LEAVING WITHOUT DEN!" Taiyala screamed.
"I'm not leaving you, Taiyala. I promise." I turned to the Chansey. "May I accompany her?"
"If that is what you wish." She then beckoned for me to follow her, and the other Chansey was off to get Nurse Joy.
I followed the first one, and I just had to ask. "So, what's your name? I don't feel comfortable calling you Chansey, or Miss."
"It's Sylvia. The other one, my sister, is named Luna." she said in a hurry. "Now really isn't the best time to be having a conversation. Your wife is in labor!"
"Alright, Sylvia." I just followed her onward down the hall, into a room that looked ready for almost anything.
I brought her to the bed that was in there, she had stopped with the squeezing, and I counted out how long til her next squeeze. It was at this time, that she began to breathe differently. She was breathing in open mouthed, then closing it to almost completely closed and exhaling sharply, and she did this over and over as fast as she could.
"That's good, dear. Just keep breathing." Nurse Joy had just entered the room.
Taiyala didn't say anything, only kept breathing like that.
"Meiyura, you did a great job. You deserve a rest. Go ahead and wait for me at the cabin, please."
'Yes, Den.' and Meiyura walked off.
Nurse Joy went to where Taiyala's legs were spread and said "My, my. You're pretty far along there, dear! You're just lucky this happened on a slow day." She then went over to a side drawer and pulled out a blanket and draped it over Taiyala's legs. "Don't want the whole world to see your womanhood, now, do we?" she said with a wink.
Then, another squeeze. "A little less than a minute with this one." I said.
"Okay, it's getting to be about time." She went to another cupboard and pulled out a bottle of liquid that I couldn't quite tell what it was, until she squeezed it underneath the blankets and I heard Taiyala moan in relief. "Is that lubrication?" I asked.
"Yes, dear. It is. Being a Bird Pokemon, I wouldn't be a good doctor if the child came out with a beak and scratched your wife's insides to shreds!"
I gulped. I did not want that to happen, so I just stood there, waiting, watching.
Then, after 3 hours of that mind-numbbing torture, Nurse Joy said "Okay, dearie. I want you to push, as hard as you can!"
"I'm right beside you, Taiyala. Don't worry." I said, as I gripped her hand and held it tightly. She followed the suit, and gripped it as hard as she could, before grunting as if she were trying to pass a 5 ton turd. She then stopped to breathe a bit.
"That's good. You're doing great, dearie!" Nurse Joy complimented.
"Yeah, hon. You're doing incredible! Keep it up!" I encouraged some more.
"But, it hurts! I don't know what to do!" she said, crying.
"Just keep pushing!" I exclaimed.
"He's right, dearie. If you keep pushing, then it will all be over faster. No more pain, all you'll feel is happiness."
"Ohh, how can pain bring happiness?! MAKE IT STOP!" she shouted to the sky.
"Honey, I need you to be strong for me! Just keep pushing! For me, please?" I asked.
She breathed a few more times before saying "Alright, Den. For you." And she breated a couple more times, and grunted again.
This time, Nurse Joy spoke up while she was grunting. "Oh, dearie! I guess we didn't need that lubricator after all! I can see the head! Keep pushing!"
She did, and she squeezed my hand tighter all the while. I kept my grip, and tried to keep my focus by squeezing her hand right back.
After a few more minutes of pushing, Nurse Joy said "The head's out!"
Taiyala took a few more breaths, and then pushed some more.
This carried on for a good hour, in which time, the baby had been pushed out the entire way.
Nurse Joy picked it up, and set about cleaning it up, while Taiyala caught her breath, and her strength.
Nurse Joy came back, and handed the child, in a blanket now, to Taiyala. "Congratulations, dearie. It's a girl."
Taiyala smiled. "You were right, Nurse Joy. I'm happy now. I'm happy that thing is out of me, but I'm more happy that I'm seeing the birth of new life!" She cradled her newborn daughter with delicate care.
I looked into the blanket to get a better look at my new daughter. She looked almost like a normal human, except for the fact that her fingers, by what I could see, were a bit hooked, like talons, only on her hands.
"And she has them as well on the feet. Talons." Nurse Joy said, seeing me looking at her fingers. "I think she will grow feathers in time, as well. She seems to have pores that look as if feathers will come out. If you look there," she pointed at her hand. "There is a bit of redness. I checked it out, and it's not a rash, or any harmful thin, until the feathers come in, and then it will be painful for her."
"How long til the feathers come in?" I asked.
"I've seen a few bird/human couple children, and they all averaged their feathers after 2 months of birth."
"2 months. At least we don't have to worry about it right away." I said. I then walked over to Taiyala and asked "May I hold her?"
My love smiled, and held out our newborn daughter to me. I picked her up, and cradled her. I then had a sudden rush. A rush of emotion.
I stepped back, and sat down as softly as I could in the chair. I then began to cry silent tears.
Taiyala looked at me with worry; as did Meiyura. Taiyala asked "What's wrong, honey?"
I swallowed once, and said "It's just... this whole trip. This whole adventure. I don't know why we even have to have it in the first place! Almost everything that's come out of it has been sadness. First, I'm run out of my own home, then I figure out I'm marked for death, then my best friend dies!" I said this all with a steady stream of tears pouring down my face. My next words were cracked with sadness and emotion. "Then, the good things! Me, meeting you; us going away together, us being together, us having this child! It's all just so overwhelming!" I then started to sob a bit.
Despite just having a baby, Taiyala got out of bed, and shakily walked over to me and dropped to a knee. As soon as Taiyala's feet hit the floor, Nurse Joy was frantic. "My dearie! Get back into bed, before you give this old woman a heart attack! Please!"
She ignored her, however, and just went to my side. "I think I understand how all this is making you feel. You feel small under all this emotion, and it's just too much."
"Not only that, but I'm still sad about my friend's death! You know... I never really grieved over that, and I can't even remember what we did with him!" I sobbed a bit harder. At this, our daughter opened her eyes for the first time. I then looked down at her, tears still streaming down my face. She looked up at me, and smiled. All at once, my sadness, and my emotions, were brought down, as if someone had given me an antidepressent. She kept smiling, then she closed her eyes and began sleeping again.
I looked at her and said "I'm tired of giving names. How about you give her a name this time?" I asked Taiyala.
She looked at their brand new daughter and said "Can we name her Sylvia, after my mother?"
I smiled. "I think Sylvia's a perfect name for our daughter." I looked at my daughter, then at Nurse Joy. "Sylvia Roka."
Nurse Joy smiled as well. "I think that's a fine name. I'll go and register it." She then walked off.
I then looked at my daughter, then at Taiyala, then at the ceiling. "I now know what we need to do."
Taiyala was stunned by his words, but she replied with "And what's that?"
"Isn't it suspicious that Mac had created that rule, only to have it delayed for a day?" I asked.
She raised an eyebrow. "I don't get where your going with this."
"Well, I think we need to find out why it was delayed, first, then that might be a stepping stone to get that rule abolished."
"So, when do we leave?" she asked.
"Not yet. Soon. I want to be in this town until Sylvia can walk."
Taiyala smiled. "Fair enough." And with that, she kissed me. I couldn't have been happier if I tried. Everything was going my way.

"Sir! We've been able to connect to it!" a grunt said.
"Good!" came a familiar voice. "Let's give our old friend a gesture of good faith."
"Yessir, Mr. Mac, sir!" And with that, the grunt left.
Mac just chuckled. "If I can't, nobody can." He stood up, gears whirring in his body, and he laughed. His laugh was hollowed out, and it sounded as if it were reverberating on a tin can. "Denzel Roka, you will be found, and you will be killed!"Chapter End Notes:Read, Rate, and Review
