Have you never heard that there's a river in the valley made of melting snow...? by lion_vom_silberwald

Story Notes:

The chapters in this story are in no way connected to each other, except for the fact that they are all inspired by song lyrics from "There's a river in the valley made of melting snow", by Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, formerly The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band, formerly A Silver Mt. Zion (ASMZ) and, at one point, The Silver Mountain Reveries. There will be 36 chapters, with none of them having more than 2000 words. Each will have its own topic, according to the individual titles. Each will have different characters and a different setting, in order to show just how many topics this song deals with. Speaking of which, in case you'd like to listen to it, you can find it on YouTube. I recommend this song; I've been listening to it for about three years now, and it just never gets old. There are so many things that come to my mind when listening to it, so now I'm trying to write them all down. Since the chapters are going to be really short, I think I'll be able to put a new one online every two days or so, depending on how much time I have. I know there are other projects I should be working on, but now I suddenly had this idea and I'd really like to see how it turns out. It's a bit hard to write stories that are so very short and still meaningful, but luckily they don't have to stand on their own, as they are mostly ways to interprete the song they are based on. Well, I hope I'll be able to update as often and as quickly as I am planning to, and I hope you'll enjoy reading and listening to "There's a river in the valley made of melting snow".

and oh my love... so gently breathing...

PLEASE NOTE: I do not own Pokémon, and I have to say that I'm kind of proud of it, because the idea of capturing animal-like creatures to make them fight each other is pretty sick, actually. Be this as it may, every species of Pokémon referred to in the following text and everything else that is a part of the Pokémon franchise is the property of their rightful owner, however, the actual story belongs to me. The title belongs to Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band/ The Silver Mountain Reveries. No copyright infringement is intended.

Thank you.

Have you never heard that there's a river in the valley made of melting snow...?

and oh my love... so gently breathing...

As Telmar awoke, he immediately noticed that something was not right. Slowly moving his front paws, he could feel that his mate was not lying next to him, which could only mean that she was already up. The Dragonite opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was the Tyranitar's healthy green skin and her big blue belly. She was sitting just a very short distance away from Telmar, her hind legs spread widely. There was simply no other way for her to sit, as her pregnancy had made her belly grow quite a bit. Still, the Dragonite blushed a little at being granted such a completely unobstructed view on her nether regions first thing in the morning. As he slowly raised his head, he could see that she was leaning back a bit, supporting herself with her strong tail. He also saw her face and immediately noticed that she had cried not too long ago. Still, she was obviously happy that he was awake now.

"Good morning," she greeted him, taking a deep breath and then showing him a warm smile. Telmar quickly stood up. He looked at her worriedly and offered her one of his front paws, which she grasped with one of hers. He carefully helped her up on her hind legs, making sure not to put any pressure on her.

"Why didn't you wake me?"he asked lowly. His tone of voice showed clearly that he was not accusing her of anything; he was just worried. His mate blinked and then looked to the ground.

"I'm sorry," she mumbled. "You seemed to be having such a good sleep, I just couldn't do it..." Telmar nodded, as he had expected such an answer.

"You don't need to apologize," he said. The Tyranitar still kept her gaze lowered. "Ravia?" Hearing her name, she raised her head to look at her mate. He could easily see that she was feeling guilty because she had not woken him up. He gave her a kiss on her cheek. "Please don't feel bad," he spoke softly. "I know you cried again, and I'm so very sorry that I wasn't awake to be there for you..." Ravia shook her head. The Dragonite knew she was going to insist on everything being her fault, so he quickly stepped closer and hugged her. Because of how big her belly had become, his paws did not meet on her back, but that was unimportant. He looked into his mate's eyes and then sealed her lips with a deep, passionate kiss.

When their lips parted again, Ravia blushed slightly.

"You're too good to me," she said lowly. Telmar gave her a lick along her nose, all the way up to her forehead.

"I'm not," he murmured. "No matter what I do, I will never be the mate you deserve." He kept quietly holding her for a few moments, just trying to make her feel that he was there. "Would you like to go for a walk?" he asked after a while. Ravia nodded. He slowly released her from his embrace and then took one of her front paws with his.

Their den was a small paradise. Basically, it was a big hole in the ground, with about half of it being covered by a natural ceiling, which was held by the roots of trees and bushes. The forest had found its way inside, so the earth was covered with soft, green grass. Every morning the two large Pokémon were awoken by the first rays of the sun, which shone into their den.

Telmar helped his mate climb outside. It was a bit difficult because of her condition, but as she could hold on to him, everything worked out fine. Of course, her big belly was not the only effect the pregnancy had on the Tyranitar. Ravia had always been a very gentle and sensitive female; it was simply in her nature. However, now that the egg had been growing inside of her for a few months already, these characteristics seemingly had become amplified. She often cried for no apparent reason and she always had to be touched by her mate in order to not feel terribly lonely. Ravia never got angry. Whenever there was any kind of a problem, she immediately took all the guilt upon herself. Telmar always did his very best to keep her from feeling bad, but sometimes this was a bit difficult. Some time ago they had come to the decision that they should not mate during Ravia's pregnancy, as the strain on her body would probably be dangerous for the egg. Her first reaction had been to cry, because she hated to disappoint the Dragonite in such a way. She had told him that he had every right to be angry or even hit her if he wanted to, as a punishment for her being such a bad mate. After her initial despair, she had spent about an hour trying to convince him that he should go outside and find another female to mate with for the time of her pregnancy, as there was no reason why he should have to suffer for her failings. It had taken Telmar all day and all night to make her calm down and reassure her that she was the only one he loved, that everything would be alright and that he would never even look at another female. However, the Dragonite was not certain that Ravia had really understood that she had never disappointed him in any way.

They were walking quietly and at a slow pace, with Telmar leading the way. He knew his mate would not be happy just sitting in their den all day long, so they always went for a walk together before noon. Ravia was holding on to Telmar's paw, and he looked at her every once in a while to see if everything was alright. The Dragonite knew where he was going; the route brought them to their favorite place. On the way there they passed a few trees that were carrying fruits, and Telmar plucked some pears, which looked ripe and juicy, for his mate. She ate them and, once again, said he was being too good to her. Telmar stopped walking and decided not to insist on the opposite being true. Instead, he kissed her, and then they continued through the forest.

After a few more minutes had gone by they had reached their destination. The forest went all the way up to the bank of a big lake, which reflected the bright blue sky, the water glistening in the sun. A soft wind was blowing. The water smelled fresh and clean. Because of her pregnancy, Ravia could not kneel down, so Telmar did it for her. He pressed his front paws together, filled them with water and then reached it up to his mate, who drank straight from his paws. After he had done this a few times he stood up and held her paw again. Before she could say that he was too good to her, he pointed at a spot that lay a considerable distance away, where the water was moving.

"There," he spoke cheerfully, "do you see the Goldeen? Look how happy they are..." He stopped talking, as he noticed his mate's blank expression. She was grasping his front paw with hers a bit more tightly now, and he knew what that meant. He quickly stepped forwards and hugged her, feeling her push herself closer to him.

"It's alright," he said. "I'm here." Looking at her face, he could see tears standing in her eyes.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, "I'm so sorry... I know you hate it when I cry..." Telmar was gently rubbing her back, his paws moving back and forth between her blunt spikes.

"I don't hate anything you do," he spoke in a soothing tone. Ravia wanted to turn her head away, but he carefully held it in place with a paw on her cheek. He locked lips with her again and began caressing her tongue with his as they kissed. His paw was slowly becoming wet with the Tyranitar's tears. After a few seconds he slowly wanted to break the kiss again, but Ravia shoved herself a little closer to him, and the desperate movements of her tongue told him that she did not want this moment to end. Thus, Telmar kept kissing her with all his love and passion.

Some time went by until Ravia moved her lips away from his. She was still crying a little, and lowered her gaze.

"I'm sorry," she mumbled. Telmar gave her a kiss on her forehead and kept holding her.

"Everything's alright," he whispered. After a short moment had passed, he added: "Would you like to go home?" Ravia nodded slightly in response. Once again, the Dragonite released her from his embrace and held her paw in order to guide her back home.

"I'm sorry for being such a burden," was the first thing Ravia said when they had entered their den. Telmar had helped her sit down on the grassy ground. He was now sitting in front of her, his paws placed on her sides. He shook his head.

"You've never been a burden to me," he replied lowly. The Tyranitar sighed.

"Of course I am," she spoke, her voice shivering a little. "Now that I'm pregnant I'm even more clingy than usual... You can't ever have even a single moment just for yourself, I'm so sorry for that..." Telmar knew she was going to cry again, and he also knew that, the closer they were to each other, the better he could make her feel. Since she would have had a lot of trouble leaning forwards to snuggle up to him, he let himself sink against her a little, so his cheek came to rest on her chest.

"I don't want to have time for myself," he said in a soft, warm tone. "I just want to be near you." He raised his head so he could look at her. "I love you, Ravia," he said. The Tyranitar blinked a few times. The tears started to flow, and she could not hold them back.

"I love you, too," she sobbed. Ravia was taking deep breaths, trying to calm down a little, but it did not work very well. "I'm so sorry, I... I have no idea why I'm crying..."

"Don't be sorry," Telmar spoke soothingly. He moved one of his front paws and began to gently rub her belly. "I promise you that everything is alright. Just cry, if it makes you feel better." It took some time for the Tyranitar to stop crying again. She was tightly holding her mate to her with her front paws.

"I know I shouldn't ask this of you," she mumbled, "but... please... please promise me that you will always stay with me..." Telmar looked up at her again and gave her a soft kiss on her cheek.

"I promise," he replied. Ravia sighed in relief.

"You're too good to me," she whispered.

Because of her pregnancy, the Tyranitar felt tired very quickly, and so she fell asleep soon after. Her eyes were closed, and she was taking deep, regular breaths. Telmar looked up at her and noticed the small, but genuinely happy smile that was standing on her face.

It made him feel warm and gave him a deep sense of satisfaction. To see his mate smile like this was truly all he desired.

Chapter End Notes:This is another one of those chapters that could have just gone on forever. However, it had to end somewhere, and the 2000 word limit actually helped me in this case, because if it had not been for that, this short story would have been much longer without anything else actually happening. There would have been endless dialogues between Ravia and Telmar, but the message would not have changed, and so it is probably a good thing that I had to cut it short. As usual, if you'd like to comment, please write a review or send an email to [email protected] . I really appreciate any kind of feedback I get.
