Teaser for "Stranger is Truth to Fiction"

A man was lying down on a cot, eyes wide open in shock. His arms and legs were strapped down to the cot, binding him. Standing to the side of the cot was a woman with a grim expression on her face. She shook her head at the man. "You still won't talk to me?"

The man's eyes danced furiously in their sockets, practically shaking with rage and fear. The woman looked at him with piercing eyes.

"Don't do this to yourself! Your rage and fears aren't going to disappear from your body on their own!"

The woman moved her head closer to the man's ear. "Not after what you saw", she whispered. She playfully smacked the man's cheek and rose up again. She clutched her clipboard and notes and walked towards the exit of the dark room, the sound of high-heels echoed with each step she took. She turned around to look at the man sternly.

"Your mouth is the only thing that can get you out of this place...out of this moment. I suggest you use it."

Her free hand reached for the door. As she opened the door, the room was briefly splashed with the light and the noise from the outside hallway. She closed the door and left the man in the room. She reached inside of her purse and pulled out a cellphone. She sighed as she speed dialed someone, tensing as the dialing sound began to be made by the phone.

Eventually, the phone stopped the dialing sound and someone on the other end of the line picked up the phone.

"Any luck with our star witness?", a voice on the other end of the line inquired. The voice was ominous, yet it contained a very childlike edge to it. It was calm, yet authoritative.

The woman sighed. "No... he's a tough nut to crack. For all we know, he could have been the person that massacred the two people over at that research center."

"For all we know", the voice on the other side cooed, "The two people could have massacred each other."

The woman wasn't convinced. "Are you saying that this man just happened to walk into a room and saw two people that had fought to the death? Our station's medical examiner could tell you that the severity and variety of the wounds inflicted indicates significantly different attack styles, consistent of multiple attackers."

The person on the other end of the line let out a relaxed sigh that sounded like a person who had stepped into a hot spring. "What is your theory, Ms. Jenny?"

"I think it was a partnership that turned ugly. The man wasn't happy with his partner and eliminated him after the two of them killed off the professor"

"Is that right?", the man replied thoughtfully. "Then why was this Yeshua fellow the only one of the two attackers to get harmed?"

Jenny was silent, unsure of how to answer. She eventually came up with her response. "I don't know, sir..."

"Is the man still in custody?", the man inquired.

"Yes, sir... but I'm afraid that he'll be discharged from the hospital and out of our custody soon. Unless we charge him with something, we can't hold him any longer."

The man's voice took on a silkish edge as he spoke his next words. "He knows the truth about the events at the lab. No man should be the sole caretaker of all of the world's wisdom and truth."

Jenny didn't understand. "What do you mean?"

The man's voice calmed. "Do not concern yourself with my words, Officer Jenny. I intend to help convince this man to tell what he had witnessed."

"Sir?", Jenny respectfully acknowledged and questioned.

"I will give this man a role to play. I'll orchestrate the stage and the cast... all he needs to do is play along."

"A role?", Jenny spoke.

"I will shine the spotlight on him. As he bathes in the spotlight, every part of this man will be illuminated. He won't be able to hide anything from me."

Jenny didn't know what on Earth this person was talking about. However, she didn't want to dismiss him as a kook. The fact was that this man had recently put forth an enormous donation to the law enforcement across the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions. She didn't want to offend the person in any way. "Thank you for your support, sir!"

"I'll be taking the next flight over. Please inform our star that I'll be over very soon."

With that, the man had hung up the phone.

Several hours had passed, and the patient was staring into the darkness of the room. A knock at the door caused him to tilt his head in the direction of the door. The door opened, the light from the hallway intruding on the darkness in the room. The man saw the outline of a person he had come to know rather well recently. Officer Jenny walked inside and looked at him before speaking.

"Nikolai... you have a visitor."
Chapter End Notes:This was much more difficult to write than I thought. I hope I figure out what I'm doing soon.
