The First Trainer by mechsrule

Story Notes:

Yeah. I'm back. So anyway, I haven't made a verdict on whether or not I will revive NTG. I have decided a few things about it though. First, this is only if I do decide to revive it, it will be an almost total rewrite. The whole past thing was stupid so that will be dropped. So that can be considered non canon. However, this story is canon on what is non canon. If that makes sense. If you wanna know what's going on, read NTG for all the failure that it is. The warnings and such may or may not change as the story goes (depends how I feel), I haven't mapped it all out yet. This story shows how the first trainer came to be, and highlights one of my personal favorite psychic type Pokemon, Xatu. Anyway, I hope you like my story.Hey disclaimer:Disclaimer: All publicly recognizable characters, settings, etc. are the property of their respective owners. Chapter 2

Sara woke up feeling like she just spent a night in a tree with a giant feather pillow, which of course she had, more or less. She felt strangely safe in the downy womb. Sure pokémon were dangerous, but she raised Nat, so maybe he was different. She noticed a lump in her pocket so she pulled it out forgetting about the 'Threat Guide'. Wondering more about what had happened to Nat, she flipped through to a page showing what he was now, which read "Xatu, Rank B. For a psychic they are very weak, boasting short shields, limited telekinesis, and some teleporting ability. It's strength comes from it's clairvoyance so it should not be underestimated for it may have already foreseen your attack. It seems to be related that Natu become Xatu under certain unknown conditions. They are solitary so while easy to fight, will be a challenge due to a combination of being able to anticipate your moves and teleport to avoid them." She put the book away and nestled closer to her friend. Part of her wanted to stay like that forever.
Nat knew Sara was awake. Being a psychic, he could sense when her thoughts focused into conscious thought, though he wasn't trying to read her mind but just brushing by her mind gave him that knowledge. It was peaceful and he quite enjoyed the close contact so he was inclined waste time there, but the dozen or so angry minds headed their way decided they didn't want that. He looked down at her, reaching out with his mind and brushing against hers so he could communicate.
"There are soldiers coming. We need to move." Nat spoke to her.
"Okay." Sara replied reluctantly. Slowly she forced herself to lean forward to allow Nat to stand up. After stretching his wings a bit, he leaned forward and signaled for her to get on. She did so and they were off flying towards an unknown land.
"I think if we can make it to the boarder we'll be safe." Sara said.
"Well I'll be safe, but you won't. I don't think they'll like you much there." Nat replied. "Let's hope they're more tolerant then humans."
They talked while Nat flew, watching the various human settlements zoom by underneath them. Eventually the scar on the earth that was the boarder appeared before them on the horizon, a once fertile area, ravaged by the fighting that had taken place, a desert that due to the blood spilt there could bear no life, and would likely not for centuries. All the extra iron had given the place a deep red color that was very appropriate.
"We're almost there." Nat pointed out.
"Let's stay flying. It's probably really gross down there." Sara added. However, has they passed the stench of gore was so great they were gagging even while flying several hundred feet off the ground. They held there breath and pressed on until the boarder was well behind them. Finally Nat touched down in a windswept plain and let Sara off.
"I'm getting tired, flying. Do you mind if we walk?" Nat asked.
"No. Is there anyone around?" She asked.
"Not that I can tell. Are you sure you don't want to go home? I can still fly you back."
"If suggest going back to me again, I'll hit you." Sara growled. "I'm staying with you. So where do we go now?"
"Point taken. I saw some mountains in that direction, just a few hours away on food." He pointed, across the open prairie to some mountains in the distance. Sara groaned but followed as he walked off.
Sara was fascinated by the open land, back home it was either grey foreboding buildings or dense forest. The change was nice. It was also a good place to be strategically, though she didn't know it. While they weren't hidden, they could see a treat from far off and would have ample time to hide or flee. The grass was very tall, but being early spring it reached just over her waist. Nat stopped in his tracks abruptly Sara walked into him.
"There's something approaching." Nat said emotionlessly. Sara looked past him and saw a white horse coming crossing the plain towards them. It looked almost like it was on fire. Sara pulled out the threat guide and identified it as either a Ponyta or a Rapidash, no one could tell at that distance.
"It's a fire type obviously but I can't tell which, one is a rank-C, the other a rank-B, the rank-B has a horn." She summarized.
"He's seen you." Nat answered, not moving, watching the flaming stallion gallop towards them. "I've got an idea. Did you bring rope?"
"Yeah." Sara replied pulling a short 10 foot rope out.
"Good. Now I'm going to tie it around your hands." Nat explained as the rope gained a green glow and wrapped itself around her hands in a knot. "I'm going to talk to him and hope this works."
"Okay." Sara whispered, the horned steed now stopping a few feet away.

"Don't embarrass me human!" Nat shouted out loud.
"What's going on here?" The Rabidash demanded.
"I'm taking this human slave back to my home." Nat answered.
"Ah, a mating toy eh? Nice catch there." Rapidash chuckled. He walked over to Sara who cringed back. He inhaled deeply trying to read her scent. "Bah! Humans bathe too much; you can never get their scent. Mind if I break her in? I haven't had a mare in a while."
"No!" Nat snarled. "I mean . . . she's mine! Get your own."
"I was just on my way to. Hope she's as nice in nest as she looks." Rapidash said before galloping off.

"What just happened?" Sara asked confused.
"Don't talk. He can understand you." Nat replied telepathically. "If you think something I will hear you though."
Nat pulled on the rope binding her hands and began walking off, forcing her to keep up. After a minute, he stopped and turned, looking into the distance. Sara looked too and saw the Rapidash was long gone.
"Sorry about that." Nat said, the rope slipping itself off her wrists. "I told him I had captured you so he wouldn't bother us."
"It's okay. He's gone and we're almost there." Sara replied, pointing to the mountains in the distance. Forgetting the incident, they continued on towards their goal which was only an hour's walk away. Unfortunately about half way there, dark clouds began rolling in, and within a few minutes it was raining heavily. One frantic scramble later, they reached the mountain soaked to the bone. Nat closed his eyes for a moment.
"There's a cave over there." He said.
"How can you tell?" Sara asked.
"I foresaw us finding it. Yeah, time paradox and what not." Nat replied leading the way. It was fairly close but they both breathed a sigh of relief when they reached it.
"I'm glad this bag is waterproof." Sara commented holding up her dripping satchel. "At least I can get out of these wet cloths, to bad you can't."
"No, but I have psychic powers." Nat smirked as well as he could with a beak. It was dark, but she could see him surround himself with a green glow, and then heard a splash of water hitting the floor. "Nice and dry. I'm going to try to start a fire."
"There's no one else here right?" Sara asked.
"No. I'm positive." Nat replied, some twigs flying into the cave. He did the same glow trick, and then with a burst of green light, a fire sprang to life. Sara pulled of her soaked cloths, each making an amusing splat as they hit the floor. Free of them, she walked over to the fire. "Uh...." Nat blushed.
"I only have a couple spare sets of cloths and I want to keep them dry for now." Sara replied, sitting down next to her bag, and moved it and herself closer to the flames. "You're not bothered are you?"
"I'm naked to if you haven't noticed, I'm just not use to you being as well... Anyway I don't suppose you have any food in there."
"Don't get use to it." Sara smiled "and I don't have food." Sara replied, her stomach rumbling. "Do you know what to do for food here?"
"I only have the instinct of my race. I know some things, but not that." Nat replied. "Wait, there's a Rattata outside!"
"Eek!" Sara squealed, covering herself. There was a green flash outside and a small purple rat floated into the cave. "Ew!"
"That is dinner." Nat replied, focusing on the rat. "Though you may want to turn around."
Sara did so and when she looked back there was a lump of meat on a rock next to the fire. After a few minutes, the meat floated up towards Nat.
"That should be cooked" he said, looking at it closely. The meat split into two pieces and the smaller one floated over to Sara. Nat ate his portion in one deft movement of his beak. "Eat up."
"This is so gross." Sara whined, grabbing the piece of meat and looking at it like it would come to life again.
"This is what we have for food out here. I can still take you home." Nat offered.
"Not happening." Sara shouted, forgetting her earlier declaration and gobbled down her portion.
"We won't be going anywhere today. I'm going to sleep. I'm pretty tired." Nat yawned and laid down, wrapping himself with his wings.
"Okay." Sara replied. After a few more minutes of drying off, she pulled out a new set of cloths and laid down at well, resting on the remainder of her cloths. This would become her main outfit so I should describe it. If you've played platinum, imagine a modification of Dawn's coat. If you haven't, look it up. She lacks the hat and scarf but the coat is about the same size on a much shorter girl. Her boots were also a much darker pink.

Sara was having a wonder full dream. She was flying around on Nat, but all the other kids in school were flying on Xatu of their own. The smell of meat woke her up.
"Morning." Nat said, pulling the meat away so she could get up. She grabbed it and yawned. The morning sun streamed into the cave, lighting the whole place up. Downing the small amount of mean, Nat presented her with a pile of berries. "Those are safe to eat." He explained needlessly. She wolfed down his harvest quickly, then sat back content.
"So, now what?" Sara asked lazily.
"We'll be good for a while here." Nat replied. "But the food will run out soon so we will have to move in a week or so from now."
"I wonder if there are any towns nearby." Sara wondered.
"According to your teacher, no." Nat replied, rolling his eyes. Though we should find some villages around, their are bad idea for you. Though there is one place..."
"What?" Sara asked.
"When we crossed with that Rapidash, I read his mind." Nat explained.
"And?" Sara replied. Nat shuddered.
"Not pleasant. Anyway, I did learn there is a location where the pokémon are at peace and refuse to fight. There we may be safe." Nat recalled. "It'll be a few days travel by foot."
"But we don't need to travel that way right!"
"Well...there are a large number of aerial scouts. And they will spot us before I can sense them and attack so we would do well to travel by land. The trees will hide us from them. There doesn't seem to be much ground reconnaissance but he wasn't the brightest."
"But I hate walking." Sara whined.
"It's only a few days walk. And at least we don't have to cross these mountains." Nat answered. "If we leave now we can be to that forest by night." He added pointing to a green blur on the horizon.
"Are you sure it'll be safe there?"
"Positive. Its called the Valley of Peace."
