The First Trainer by mechsrule

Story Notes:

Yeah. I'm back. So anyway, I haven't made a verdict on whether or not I will revive NTG. I have decided a few things about it though. First, this is only if I do decide to revive it, it will be an almost total rewrite. The whole past thing was stupid so that will be dropped. So that can be considered non canon. However, this story is canon on what is non canon. If that makes sense. If you wanna know what's going on, read NTG for all the failure that it is. The warnings and such may or may not change as the story goes (depends how I feel), I haven't mapped it all out yet. This story shows how the first trainer came to be, and highlights one of my personal favorite psychic type Pokemon, Xatu. Anyway, I hope you like my story.Hey disclaimer:Disclaimer: All publicly recognizable characters, settings, etc. are the property of their respective owners. Chapter 5

The following morning the duo, now a trio continued their quest for the holy grail- err, the Xatu's home. Sara walked calmly on, unaware of the telepathic discussion going on around her.
"Have you noticed them too?" Nat asked with his mind.
"I've been hearing something. I'm still human so I don't have that good of senses, but yes I have." Wally replied.
"So, you want to get rid of them now?" Nat asked.
"Sure. I think they're after Sara but I don't think they'll hurt her, and they may trust me a bit." Wally agreed.
"Alright. Follow my lead but stay with her." Nat ordered. Then spoke out loud. "I'll be right back, I have to go to the big birds room."
"Hurry back." Sara called as Nat disappeared into the brush.

"Perfect. You take the bird while I grab the girl." The man from the previous chapter said to another man crouched next to him.
"On it." The other said. For the sake of saving time, lets call the first guy Bob, and the second Al.
Al crept along the branch and pulled a sniper rifle from his pack. Bob moved silently down the tree and weaved through the undergrowth towards his target.
"Weird." Al thought. "It's like the pokémon is looking right at me through the scope. I'm much too far away for it to see me. Though I will get to see the look on its face so that'll be fun." He watched Bob's progress with one eye to coordinate their efforts. When Bob reached the humans, Al fired. And fell backwards, wondering how the bullet just turned around in mid air like that and hit him. He didn't wonder long and death took him.
"I got ya!" Bob called, running at the two humans, and grabbing Sara and running away.
"Get back here!" Wally shouted, angry he hadn't been fast enough to stop him.
"Put me down!" Sara shouted, hitting the man who just continued running.
"I'm trying to save you so stop it!" The man growled.
"I don't want to be saved!" Sara protested.
"I don't know what they've done to you, but we'll make you normal again." Bob vowed. Then halted. He was near the edge of a large cliff. They couldn't see the ground below from their angle so it was pretty deep. Wally and Nat burst out at them.
"Put the girl down." Nat ordered, gesturing to make his point clear.
"Let her go." Wally demanded.
"Don't worry, I'll save you." The man said. He began running at the edge of the cliff as if to jump.
"Stop! Let go!" Sara screamed. There was a flash of green light and the man's arms flew away, dropping her. Sara had fainted before she hit the ground. The man continued, now making a strategic retreat. He jumped. Nat and Wally ran to the edge to watch. They saw him gliding away on a kite shaped contraption.
"I can't allow you to escape only to return." Nat glared. He closed his eyes, and the kite erupted in green arcs. It fell apart and it and the man plummeted. "Let's find a cave. We won't be able to go anywhere for a while."
"Did that really tire you out that much?" Wally asked. "I know psychics get tired when using their powers."
"It's more complicated then that, but I only ended his escape. Sara seems to have freed herself." Nat answered, picking Sara up and putting her on his back.
"There might be a cave around here." Wally said. "We can stay there."

"Good morning." Nat smiled as Sara slowly opened her eyes.
"What happened?" Sara mumbled, stretching.
"It would seem you have barrowed a bit of my powers and using them tired you out." Nat answered. He handed her some berries and continued "The man is gone, Wally's scouting ahead, and you've been asleep for about a week."
"A week?" Sara cried bolting up.
"Yup. Doing that psy-pulse really took a lot out of you."
"I did what now?"
"It seems when we merged, you got a little of my psychic powers. Since you're not naturally psychic, it wasn't much and very weak. I could to a psy-pulse big enough to push back this forest and I would be out as long. We psychics have basically a battery in us of psychic energy that allows us to use those powers. The power gradually restores itself over time. We don't know how exactly but it does. Some have a large battery so they can do more before needing to recover, others, like you, have small batteries that allow them to do very little. I don't know all the math behind it, and they have calculations for how much energy things take. What you used was about 7000pJ (psychic joules). About enough to levitate a ten gram rock for about 70 minutes."
"I hate math." Sara grumbled.
"That's an estimate that Alakazam told me when explaining pJs. I can estimate the energy of something by watching but it's not very exact. Anyway, when a psychic overextends himself, the battery begins drawing on the psychic's other energies. Abusing it makes you sleepy and hungry and can cause death eventually. And judging by how long you were out, you had at most 2000pJ. And doing the calculation to figure out maximum pJ, with the recovery rate... You should have about 4000pJ's maximum, which will take about two months to stockpile." Nat explained.
"Is that a lot?" Sara asked. Nat chuckled a bit.
"No. I had a far larger battery when I hatched. Most psychics innately sense their energy and though I haven't ever reached my maximum, it's about 1500pmJ(megajoules), which is 1,500,000,000pJ. Though I also recover it more quickly and as I get older it increases. You're not a natural psychic so you're going to grow as much. I'd estimate 10000pJs maximum. Though it saved you having it so that's not bad. And there are techniques for using very little pJs to do things that would that much more, but I only know what Alakazam taught me and what I taught myself. That's why I can't do much. That and I'm not a powerful psychic. If I'm lucky, I might get 150pgJs (gigajoules) eventually. Alakazam hadn't used much so he was full at about 3000ppJs (petajoules[1000 terajoules])."
"Wow. So even when I get super powers they're lame."
"It's not in your biology. It's all based on species and ability. Human psychics get around 100pmJs while some legendaries can peak at 1pyJ (a yottajoule. 1,000,000 petajoules). But they're immortal. We grow all our lives so the longer one lives, the more they grow so immortals have immense amounts. Though at that high energy, they would be ripped to shreds. That's more then enough to telekinetically separate every single molecule on earth by several million miles and effectively tear the world apart."
"So we shouldn't tick them off then." Sara joked. "So what do we do now?"
"We're going to catch up to Wally."
"But he's been going for how long?"
"We'll just teleport."
"What if we merge again?" Sara said worried.
"I'm not in pain and I can focus. I just need to locate Wally." Nat said. He closed his eyes and was silent for a few minutes while Sara ate the berries, realizing how hungry she was. "Got him." Nat finally said. "Are you ready to go?"
"I have to go pee." She announced. She got up painfully and hobbled out of the cave. A little later she came back in. "Let's go." Nat nodded and threw his wings around her. The grey cave was replaced by a sparse green forest.
"So you finally decided to wake up." Wally greeted.
"How'd the scouting go?" Nat asked getting down to business.
"How close are we?" Sara asked.
"Very." Nat replied.
"Well in a straight line, we're about 60 miles away. But we have this lovely mountain range in the way." Wally waved dramatically. Looming in the distance were massive mountains. Colossal piles of rock reaching into the sky. Each topped with white.
"Wow...." Sara and Nat said together. Both were from the city and a run down one at that so the sight of something so massive was awe inspiring.
"From what I got from the locals, just over this is where the Xatu live, but these are pretty tall. There are several paths over them that are well marked but it's pretty hard going and it'll be cold up high. Or we can go around to where the mountains are shorter. It'll take longer, about a month they say, and add about 800 miles to the trip." Wally explained. "I say we go around. We don't have much for cold weather, and we don't know if we'll find food up there."
"I say we go over. We have some winter gear and we can always take a low pass to stay warmer. And we can bring food. If worst came to worst, I could teleport us back here." Nat argued. "What do you think Sara?"
"Let's go over. That sounds like way too much walking." Sara decided. "How hard can it be?"

"Very, very hard." Wally grumbled shivering as he forced his way through the waist deep snow.
"How could I know the snow was so deep?" Sara complained, their words quickly rushed away by the roaring winds and snow.
"There's a big overhang up ahead. Maybe we can take a break there." Nat said telepathically to make sure they heard. They ducked under the overhang and took a break. It didn't stop all the biting winds but it blocked most of the snow.
"Crazy weather here huh? One minute sunny, the next a blizzard." Sara remarked.
"This is the work of an ice pokémon." Nat corrected.
"Perhaps they don't want us in their territory." Wally suggested.
"Hear that?" Sara asked. They fell silent and could hear a soft sound coming from nearby that wasn't from the wind or snow. "It sounds like crying." Sara whispered. They moved towards the source, a pile of snow farthest from the edge of the overhang. The pile shook and became quite as they approached.
"Hello?" Wally called.
"It's just a little Snorunt." Nat announced. "No threat at it's age."
Sara reached into the snow cautiously and removed the trembling form. The obviously child Snorunt began crying louder. "It's okay, I won't hurt you." Sara said soothingly and rocked the Snorunt in her arms. This quieted it. "Now what's wrong?"
"My daddy!" The Snorunt mumbled.
"I'm sure he'll be back soon." Nat said.
"No! He's making this blizzard." The Snorunt sobbed. "I'm too weak so he's going to kill me!"
"Why would he kill his child?" Wally asked.
"He's the strongest Glalie and he's mad cause I'm a girl and I'm not as strong as him." The Snorunt explained.
"Cant your mom-" Wally began but stopped when the Snorunt got teary again. "Well I'd like this blizzard to stop so what do you say we go beat him up until he stops?"
"Violence isn't always the answer, but with somemon (that is not a typo) acting on their base instincts... we're going to have to stop him. He's a treat to us and others. Let's stop him." Nat agreed.
"Don't worry, we'll make sure you don't get hurt anymore." Sara said putting the Snorunt down. "Now where is he?"
"I can take you there, cause you won't find it." The Snorunt answered. "But I'm scared."
"With two strong mon to protect you, it'll be just fine. Wally said confidently, flexing his arms.
"Meat head aside we will ensure your safety or die trying." Nat promised. The Snorunt agreed and nervously began leading them up the mountain. The going was steep and the snow kept piling up around them. Sara had a coat and Nat had plenty of down so they were fine, but Wally shivered in his light cloths. "I see it." Nat announced, pointing ahead into the blizzard. The others looked but couldn't make anything out.
"Okay, I led you here, but I'm going!" Snorunt said. "Good luck!" it shouted before running back the way they had come. Focusing on stopping the Glalie, Nat crouched down and sent telepathic directions to Wally to make sure they were understood. "Sara, wait here! We'll handle this."
"I'm not useless!" Sara protested but stayed just the same. Wally and Nat crept up on the shadowed form in the center of the blizzard. When they were close enough, Wally leaped up with all his strength.
"Mach punch!" he called. Being not a pokémon, the attack wasn't as it should have been, but as much as he would hate to admit it, Nat did see Wally accelerate and the punch connect. The hit knocked the Glalie off balance, opening him up for Nat to fire a confusion attack at it as well. The Glalie recovered and continued the blizzard.
"My child will learn to be strong or die! And none shall interfere!" The Glalie declared, firing a blue ray from its mouth. Nat and Wally dodged it and both attacked again. This enraged the Glalie even further and it began firing ice beams sporadically, freezing Wally's lower torso and Nat's left wing.
"Take that!" Sara cried, impotently throwing snowballs at the Glalie.
"More with a death wish!" Glalie shouted aiming at Sara instead. She ducked out of the way of the shot, but face planted to the ground and couldn't avoid the next one. At the last second, some shards of ice blocked it.
"You okay?" A worried voice asked Sara. She looked and saw the little Snorunt there looking at her concerned.
"I'm fine. I didn't want you to get hurt cause of me." Snorunt said.
"I should have brought something warmer." Wally whined. "Would you mind getting me out?"
"Sorry. Kind of busy." Nat replied. Glalie was firing more ice at them, but the attacks were being deflected.
"Stop it!" Snorunt cried hurling ice shards at Glalie. While Glalie was distracted, Nat shattered the ice binding him and Wally.
"Close combat!" Wally declared delivering a series of close range punches and kicks to Glalie.
"Confusion!" Nat shouted. The Glalie went cross-eyed and fell into a snow bank. Immediately the snow began letting up. "Let's get out of these mountains quickly before he wakes up."
"No kidding." Wally agreed whipping frost off his shirt.
"Can you show us the way down little Snorunt?" Sara asked.
"Yuki." Snorunt answered. "My name is Yuki. This way."
"Thank you." Sara said following Yuki down the mountain, Nat and Wally bringing up the rear.
