Act 1: Chapter 6: The Meeting
Darkness was beginning to fall on the peaceful town of Eterna City, bathing the small town in dark shades of blue, the little light came from a the few lanterns scattered around the buildings. Rose sighed; Ella and David had disappeared sometime during the Gym Battle, which was really annoying, considering that she wanted to gloat about her victory to them. And now she was alone with no-one but Lance for comfort, and of course, he was already fast asleep on the branch above her, he may have had a hard day and everything, but the least he could have done was stay awake and give some company. Rose had to admit, she didn't like being alone...because that was when she started thinking, when memories started to re-surface along with the pain attached to them.
All of them were really hazy, and the majority of the time she couldn't even make out what they were about, but some of them were clear as day, and she could see them as if they were here now. The first was the face of the member of Team Rocket which had killed her mother, the look that he held was one of sadness, he looked as if he regretted what he had done...and more importantly, his face was extremely similar to someone's that she knew...or had known from a long time ago...but this was one of the memories that hadn't come back to her. The other clear memory was something that hadn't noticed at the time, but in this flashback it was obvious...on the day that she had died, and was being resurrected by the Mew...its face constantly flickered from the happy and care-free creature that she had sent that day...and a pained expression; more of guilt that anything else. It appeared every time he actually looked at her, most of the time he was looking just over her shoulder.
But that didn't make sense, why did it feel so guilty every time it looked at her...the obvious answer was that it knew something that she didn't know, but what would that be? Could it be something about her parents' death? Was there something it could have done to save them? Or maybe something entirely different...like know about her destiny that the...other creature spoke of in her dream. But that was a silly idea as well, because that part was a dream...there was no way that it could have been real, there was no gap in the rocks by the lake when she had woken up, she had probably just been sleep walking. But if it was real, that would actually kind of make sense... maybe it didn't end well for her.
Rose's head started to really hurt like it did when too man thoughts were cycling through her head, so she promptly tried to turn her brain off and leant against the trunk of the tree they had made camp under. As her eyes began to slowly droop...she noticed someone standing still...looking directly at her, she blinked and it was gone...great, now she was seeing things! But there it was again standing a couple of metres in front of her, she couldn't make out the person's face but his arm was stretched out, beckoning her to follow. It's not everyday that things like this happen, and on a normal day she would have completely ignored this and woken up Lance just in case the person was dangerous. But something inside her was telling...no commanding her to follow, so she did, she climbed out of her sleeping bag and walked after the person, who had promptly started walking way, it was obviously leading her somewhere...and the only way out was to follow.
The town was sleeping, so there was no-one on the streets apart from her and the person, which immediately sent alarm bells ringing through her head...but she was powerless to resist the part of her mind which wanted to find out where this person would lead her, hell, there was even a part of her that was telling her to trust this stranger. It led her to a house, which it entered leaving the door open so that she could follow, and then disappeared from sight. Of course, Rose was scared, but still she entered the door and walked down the dimly lit hallway, with bare oak walls and a cold stone floor, at the end of which was another door which was hanging slightly ajar, she opened it.
No longer was she in the house...she didn't even think that she was in Eterna City anymore, what lay before her was a beautiful secret garden, in which the trees were a magnificent golden hue, there leaves gently falling in the crisp autumn winds which quietly blue through the area, creating mini cyclones of leaves. At the centre of the garden was a fountain, intricately carved in the forms of many of the Legendary Pokémon which she had learned of in school, and there were even a few which she hadn't seen before! And there, leaning on the fountain was the person that had led her to this glorious place; she could see that it was a boy, with long black hair and strangely bright blue eyes which sparkled like sapphires in the sunlight.
"Do you like this place, Rose?" the boy asked, his voice echoed through the garden...but immediately she noticed that his mouth hadn't moved...more importantly though he knew her name!
"...Well...yeah, it's amazing," she replied, still a little cautious, after all she didn't know what his intentions were...or for that matter who the fuck he was.
"We all come here when we need a break from the insanity of the world; it's our own little paradise," he continued, so that meant there was more than one of him? But who were they? "Who are we? Isn't it obvious? Oh...wait of course it isn't, sorry about that, I'm always forgetting about which form I'm in," he laughed, leaving Rose in an even more confused state, until his body changed in an instant, becoming much smaller, furrier and cuter. "Long time no see," his voice echoed through Rose's mind, who was currently standing with her mouth hanging open. When had he been able to transform into stuff?
"A...Amethyst?" she exclaimed, she was pretty dumbfounded, what with a) not sure whether he was a dream or not, and b) not having seen him in a couple of years.
"The one and only!" the Mew shouted through her mind delightedly, swooping through the air in a series of somersaults and back flips for effect. Rose understood now, this was a place for the Legendary Pokémon to rest...no wonder it was so beautiful.
"Um...should I be here?" she asked, slightly concerned about being unwelcome in a place which could be filled with the most powerful Pokémon in the world, a reasonable fear. However, Am just smirked.
"I'd like to see them try it," he said in an amused tone, "I may be cute and fluffy and everything, but I still pack quite a punch...even with these small little arms," Rose giggled quietly, imagining the little Pokémon taking on the likes of Dialga, every time she imagined it, well...it didn't go well for the cute little thing floating in front of her, then again it had brought her back to life. "Damn straight I could take down any of the others...well except Cel...she'd just screw around with time, she's annoying like that," He said, before diving into Rose and giving her a hug (although most of it was using his tail, can't really do much with those cute little arms). And before long, Rose felt a wave of joy spreading through her mind, making her forget about all of those horrible things that had happened in her life, so she hugged the little thing back, resulting in a cute little giggle from the pink Pokémon.
"Am...You're doing it again aren't you," Rose whispered.
"Oh right, sorry, I just excited sometimes and emotions get splashed through whoever's mind I'm connected with, so I guess you've got some questions to ask me, huh?" he asked, Rose was taken back for a second, wondering how he knew, when she remembered that he was psychic, doh!
"Yeah...is that okay with you?" she asked hopefully, looking down into the Mew's eyes, who nodded. Rose sat down on one of the fallen logs, and got things straight in her head. First of all, "Why did you save me?" she asked, but before the Mew could answer she added, "I mean, really...you said that I was important...how exactly?" Instead of answering, Am looked up at her for a little while before speaking.
"Wow Rose...you've really grown up," he said plainly, right now it didn't seem like he was looking at her, but looking through her, into her mind, memories, experiences etc. This actually freaked Rose out a bit. "You're no longer that cute, innocent little girl from all those years ago...you may not know it yet, but you're becoming an attractive, intelligent adult....for a human anyway," he added at the end, with a mischievous smile on his lips. Rose couldn't help but blush slightly at the complement...but realised that he hadn't answered the question, which he soon realised she had noticed, "See, the old you wouldn't have noticed that... but I guess I owe you a few answers." Rose found that she was having trouble thinking straight, her mind was becoming pretty hazy, she knew it was the Mew's fault, but not due to his psychic powers...but she did hear the word "owe"...and she had no idea why he would owe her. "Anyway, that was two questions you asked, first of all, about the saving thing...to be honest I don't really know...I guess I did it because there was something about you that...was different," Rose broke eye contact with Am and found that her mind began to become clearer.
"I thought that...before you said I was important, that I had a destiny," The Mew's ears drooped slightly at hearing this; he knew that she wouldn't like the answer he would give.
"Um...well...I kind of...lied about that..." he muttered, looking at the floor promptly. Rose froze at this answer, her body became rigid, that was the answer that she had feared; the main thing that had kept her going all these years was the idea that she mattered to the world, she felt the Mew enter her mind and instantly felt comforted, but that didn't stop the anger that she felt towards him.
"You...lied; it's as simple as that is it? You just lied and resurrected me because you liked the look of me, well thank you! Didn't you think about how maybe I was supposed to die that day, and now I have no-"she was immediately cut off as she felt her mouth covered by an invisible hand, she looked furiously at the Mew below her, resisting the urge to strangle the cute little thing but only barely, words cannot describe the feeling of loss that had overcome her, but Am stared back at her with an equally intense gaze, but this was one of sorrow as opposed to anger.
"That's not what I meant! I swear...I didn't just bring you back because you looked nice...don't insult me like that...I did it because you're not like other humans, hell, your whole family are nothing like most humans, you've always valued Pokémon as equals, I can tell you now that there are less than fifty people in the world who truly believe that! Most would like to believe they think like that, but really, they don't, they just use Pokémon as tools of war." Rose was calming down a little, but Am was going to keep going, "Yeah...I've known a lot of your family...to tell you the truth I can remember your great-grandmother, so yeah, I lied about being young and everything as well...but I only lied to you to give you hope, which you needed to carry on going after your parents deaths." Rose felt the pressure on her mouth disappear, so that she could speak, in truth she was still distraught at being lied to...she sort of understood but that wasn't helping much.
"So...I don't have a destiny?" she muttered, the Mew smiled slightly at the last word.
"Well...if you want to talk about destiny you're going to have to talk to Cel, I don't really like that word...the future changes depending on the actions that you make, it's not written...or maybe it is and it knows what moves you'll make...its confusing, I don't understand it that much...but I mean this honestly Rose, you have the potential to be important to this world...for better or for worse it's up to you." He assured her, "I know what I'm saying sounds a lot like something you'd read on a fortune cookie... but this time I'm telling the truth; everything you do has an effect on the future, but I can't tell you what to do, that's up to you..." There was a brief pause as Rose processed this; she was actually flattered at the thought of being special.
"Am...I'm not special...you know about the whole revenge thing, I'm guessing..." Am nodded but wrapped his tail around her tighter, trying to comfort her without screwing around with Rose's mind.
"But you stopped yourself...that's the important thing, most people would have just charged in as soon as they found who was responsible...and I know that you've been thinking about going in once you're strong enough, but I'm pretty sure even when you're strong enough you won't...as I said you're different, you'll realise how much you'll lose if you try it, and walk away from revenge," Rose smiled inside at how high Am held her compared to other humans, it seemed like he really understood her. But then a question surfaced.
"Why didn't you save my parents...?" she asked quietly, and the Mew froze at this question, not quite sure how to answer this one in a way which would appease her.
"I....um...well...it wasn't as easy as it was with you...they had already lived a good deal of their life and accomplished a large amount, whereas you still had so much to do...I couldn't save your father because I was too far away at the time, I only made it in time to protect you from them after your father had been killed...and you're mother..." he paused, the memory of Rose's mother seemed to sadden Am greatly. "Well...I really do wish I could have saved her...but there isn't any coming back after taking a bullet like that...I knew you're mother well Rose...you're pretty much exactly like she was when she was your age... that's partly why I protect you...I owe it to your mother..." he trailed off, the sparkle of his blue eyes vanishing. Rose hugged the small creature tightly for a while, her anxiety escalating.
"Am...I'm really scared..." she said, how was she meant to help the world? Maybe it would have been better if she had no importance to the world, then she could just go on with her life as a trainer. The thought of having to make the right decisions at every turn worried her intensely...it was a huge weight to bear on her shoulders, and she didn't know whether she could cope. But in an instant the Mew was in her mind easing every one of her worries.
"The future is always scary Rose...that's why you need to focus on the present, just go with whatever your heart tells you to, and try your best, what else can you do, you're not a super hero...wow..." the Mew muttered.
"What?" Rose asked, calming down thanks to the Mew's help.
"I just realised how corny that all sounded...I could have been quoting from a film or something!" he exclaimed, trying to lighten the mood with laughter, which worked, soon Rose joined in with laughing too...because what else is there to do other than laugh your troubles away when faced with impossible challenges?
***************************************************
Rose lay on the moist, grassy floor gazing up at the sun-set, with Amethyst on her lap following her gaze. They'd been like this for around an hour; he had been constantly comforting her whenever a frightening thought crept up in her mind, as she thought about what the future held for her.
"Am...Should I be allowed to...love a Pokémon?" she asked, causing him to bolt upright at the sudden question, his cheeks going slightly red at the thought of answering this question.
"Err...I really...don't think I'm the right...guy to ask about that..." He stammered, rubbing the back of his head nervously, this one of those questions that in truth he hadn't expected.
"Why?" she asked calmly.
"...Cus' I'll probably just come up with something really corny like, "no boundary can stop love" or something like that..." he replied, on seeing that she wanted more help he sighed. "It depends on who you ask...as you know it's taboo in human culture for such a thing to happen...knowing you guys there's probably laws against it...at the very least if someone found out you'd be like an outcast to society...but I guess if you don't care about what might happen...its okay..." Rose giggled softly.
"That's not what I meant, I'm not that retarded...what I meant was, to Pokémon does it matter..." That question he really should have seen coming, it was a really nice thing to see in a human, a question about whether it mattered to the "inferior" species. But it was also another really hard one to answer.
"Well...Pokémon don't think like humans at all...so it's really different," Rose was confused by this, "But you think like us...and so do others, like Lance, Cyn etc." Momentarily, a dark expression crossed over the Mew's face, but it disappeared in less than second, so Rose wondered whether she had imagined it. "That's because us Legendaries...we're different, let's just say that we're what came before Pokémon, as like the guardians...and to fulfil that roll we needed to have a degree of intelligence...and Pokémon that have been caught and live in a close proximity to humans, often there minds develop and they become as intelligent as humans...but in the wild Pokémon are different...it's hard to explain...basically they wouldn't care, to Pokémon a mate is a mate...I guess." There were areas in Rose's mind which Am didn't want to go to, because they were private and he didn't have any right to go snooping into people's personal areas, so naturally he was curious about why she would ask a question like this, although with her mindset she was more likely to develop a close bond with Pokémon, because in her mind they were equals. "Why do you ask?" Her face immediately went a deep colour of red as Am looked up at her, humans were such funny creatures, love to them was so complicated, in the wild it was at least a hundred times simpler.
"No reason...." She said quickly, of course...it was a little too quickly.
"Oh really...?" Am said slowly, followed by a small wink, "Sure, whatever you say..." Her face managed to go even redder and Am giggled to himself, before floating up, off of her lap and stretching out in mid-air. "You ready to go?" Rose's face immediately dropped, he was surprised at how much she was enjoying herself here, especially after learning about his lying to her and everything...but I guess that was her in a nutshell, constantly switching from depressed - happy in a heart beat, another weird thing about humans.
"Do we have to...?" she asked, Am sighed.
"Sorry and everything but we really do have to go...if we do Lance is going to wake up and find no-one there, which would be funny...but he probably wouldn't get the joke." After seeing her unhappy face, and having partly caused that before-hand he sighed. "But that doesn't mean I'm not going to take you out in style!" he exclaimed, before transforming into this HUGE bird, the likes of which she had only seen in legends, the Mew had transformed into Lugia!
"Wow......" she muttered, completely in awe. In his new form, Am lowered a wing to allow her to climb on, which she did so without any hesitation what so ever, Am laughed heavily, sending vibration coursing up and down Rose's body. "Quick question, why do you walk around as a small pink thing when you can become this!" she asked, sure it wasn't a good idea to insult something this big...but inside he was small and fluffy, so it was okay. Am simply grunted, and took off, soaring high into the sky at speed, leaving Rose dangling on for dear life. "OKAY, OKAY, I GET IT, I LOVE YOUR NORMAL FORM, PLEASE JUST DON'T KILL MEEEE!" She screamed, and the huge Pokémon levelled up instantly and slowed down. After a couple of deep breaths, "You...bastard..." she muttered...but as soon as she felt him picking up speed. "I'M SORRY, I DIDN'T MEAN IT!" and he slowed down again, laughing.
The journey went on like that for a while, Rose constantly saying the wrong things and getting punished for it, up until the point when they were directly above Eterna City, above the cloud-line so that no-body could see them. They stayed up there for a while...Rose getting increasingly worried as Am didn't move in...And when she did move she almost had a heart-attack...he twirled round and dropped her, sending her screaming towards the floor at high speed. But just as soon as it had started it stopped, and when she managed to pry her eyes open she looked up and saw that the Mew was carrying holding her up by the hand, an amused grin across his small face, fortunately Rose managed to keep her mouth shut until they reached soft ground.
"That was fun!" Am squeaked happily, going back to doing flips, obviously teasing her...Rose just stood there, still frozen to the spot.
"I swear I'm going to kill you...I don't care how cute you are...you're going to die!" she shouted making a leap for him, which he skilfully evaded (going straight through her legs).
"Oh no...You were really close, I swear, almost had me!" He burst out laughing only to pause as he realised his mistake. "Oh shit..." he muttered, as Rose got back to her feet holding his tail in one hand.
"My turn!" she shouted, pulling him towards her, she then pinned him to the ground and committed the biggest crime ever in the history of history...tickle tortured a Mew. "Who knew that your biggest weakness would be this?" she laughed evilly, continuing the torture as the poor Pokémon begged for mercy.
"N-No, p-p-plea-se...S-top!" he cried, laughing so hard that tears were beginning to form in his eyes, his mind desperately sort for a way to escape and came up with a way...it wasn't going to be pretty, but it'd work. He timed it perfectly, waiting for the precise moment, when she was tickling his highly sensitive feet, he leant in and planted a Sweet Kiss on her cheek, her body from the neck down immediately was paralysed.
"Oh...Oh god no..." she whimpered, realising how stupid she was for falling into that trap, she couldn't believe that she'd forget he could use moves. "That's cheating!" she exclaimed. The Mew stood over her paralysed body, looking as evil as a pink fluffy thing could.
"You grabbed my tail...I'm afraid that for that! There is no forgiveness..." he spoke as deep as his voice would go (not very deep) and his eye flashed completely blue...and Rose could feel herself being tickled all over her body, it was pure and unadulterated torture!
"I-I'll do...a-a-nything! Just...stop...the tickling, pl-ease!" It immediately subsided and her body relaxed, thanking whatever god there was that he made Am have some degree of mercy within him. But something inside her told her that this struggle wasn't over yet, that evil Mew had something up his sleeve...or paw...or whatever.
"Fine then...who've you got a crush on?" he asked, managing to perfectly imitate the school-girl question, tone and everything! Rose froze, that bastard, she should have known not to tell him about that earlier.
"I'm not telling you anything!" she shouted, bracing herself for a torrent of tickling which never came.
"Oh dearry me, looks like you forfeit that one then...so I guess I'm going to have to make you do something much worse, you know, just in the spirit of the game and everything," he said in a sadistic tone, making Rose feel chilled down to her very bones.
"What are you going to do to me...?" she asked, frightened for her life.
"The first condition is this...you'll let me come with you..." What? Rose looked up at the little thing...what was so bad about that? Then Rose thought about introducing him to Lance and the others which would surely be awkward...but it'd also mean she could ask him anything she wanted...plus it'd be nice to have him around. "Good you agree...but there is a second condition that you must swear to follow...or I'll rend your body from you soul...and curse you to walk this land as a ghost for all eternity!" Rose paused...could he do that? "...No...I can't do that...but I promise it'll be something equally terrible...ish...um..."
"You haven't thought of a second condition...have you...?" Rose said, humoured.
"Actually...no...I haven't...give me a second..." he asked, running a list of things through his mind, which Rose waited patiently for. "Okay! I've got it...remember when I resurrected you...remember what we did?" he asked. Her cheeks went red, yeah, she sure as hell remembered.
"Err....really?" she asked, pretty surprised by the request. Now it was the Mew's turn for is cheek's to become traffic lights.
"Well...yeah...I mean the closest thing to that I've had since is...well...nothing...so that is your second forfeit!" Neither moved for a little while, and Rose was beginning to wonder whether Am had meant something else, but then he moved up to her and pressed his lips against hers, kissing her deeply whilst slinking his soft tail across her waist, pulling her closer to his body, it was different to the last time...this time it felt much more...real...it was deeper...closer...more affectionate. Soon she felt his tongue slip into her mouth, and hers met it and they twisted around each other like dancers in an intricate dance of lust. Bringing her arms around him, she ran her hand across the soft fur along his back, causing him to let out a soft moan of yearning. The heat started to become intense as he slipped the tip of his tail down her back, she knew what was going on was wrong...they both did...but it also felt wrong to deny what was transpiring...but just as his tail started to slip down her pants he broke away, leaving a thin strand of wire connecting the two, and when that broke both woke up from the spell that had been cast over them. Leaving them gazing into one-another's dreamy eyes blushing madly. "Um...I-I think that'll do..." he stuttered, stunned by the fact that it had almost got THAT far.
"Y-yeah...th-that was enough...um...horror for me..." she replied, leaving the Mew with a worried look on his face.
"W...Was it really that bad?" he asked, Rose looked down.
"...No..." she admitted, and just like that they both changed the topic and shoved that to the back of their minds in an instant, anyway, there were more important matters at hand. "So...how are we going to...keep you hidden and everything?" she asked, Am gave her an "are you serious look".
"Well, I was thinking of, you know, transforming" he replied with a teasing smile on his lips. Rose almost hit herself for not seeing that one, but her mind was still a bit...hazy so you couldn't really blame her. "But there's a hitch with it...I can only transform into someone I've seen before...so there's a chance we might wind up meeting him...and plus lip synching a bitch," Rose nodded.
"That's risky...you've been outside of Sinnoh, right? Transform into someone from...I dunno, Kanto," Rose suggested, Am nodded is head and promptly transformed into a roughly 5ft8 guy, with long, unkempt black hair and a pretty unspectacular face, however he kept Am's blue eye...oh yeah, and he was completely naked. "Um...can't you transform with clothes on...?" Rose asked, Am immediately went red and soon had a full compliment of normal-ish clothes on.
"Sorry about that! Why do humans have to be so awkward..." he moaned, before stretching and trying out his new body, "I hate being this tall...and not being able to levitate, it seriously sucks!"
"Welcome to my world, at least you have the option to levitate," He shrugged.
"Good point, ready to introduce me to Lance?" Right...that was going to be awkward, but tonight had just been a whole heap of awkward hadn't it. So, Rose sighed, put on a brave face, and walked back through the town...Chapter End Notes:A bit of frustration, a bit of lovins, a bit of fun, it's all good...oh apart from one thing that you rpobably over-looked =P Anyway, next chapter will take a little while to do cus I gotta work for a while. Remember to review, advice and criticism wanted
