Chapter 2: Nine-Tales

"That's...not...what." Leon started breathing hard as he finally was able to rest his legs. His deep breathing making it take a minute for him to go on. "What...I...would call a...city." He said in his tired state, almost falling off the bike. Lucario softly let herself off to try to steady her trainer. 'This is what he gets for not taking a break.' Lucario thought as she helped steady him as he pulled himself off the bike. "Now," Leon said, looking around, "where is a Pokemart?" Fuchsia City was not far off from Leon's comment. The entire city could more or less be easily confused for a small town if not for the masses of people covering the streets. The city seeming to be hidden around thick tree's seeming to stuck together like a wall. Their thick branches far above some of the highest buildings.

"I think it's over there, Leon" Lucario said as she pointed to a building much like every other Pokemart, designed as if they were just copy and pasted into each place from some computer. A faint blue metal building with a large sign proclaiming what it was.

"Okay let's go, I'm starving." Leon said rushing off, expecting Lucario to be following him. The Lucario seemed to be ready to move, quickly stopping as her paw went numb, the feeling spreading to her arm, and then to her mouth, her mind unable to yell for her trainer, who was rushing wildly for food. "h-h..elp me...le-le-on." her eyes started to feel heavy. Her body engulfed in a feeling of numbness, "he-hel...help me." She said, her own words feeling like hot iron as they past the only points of feeling left in her.

"That seems interesting," A voice said in her mind, "I wonder how the story will unfold." Suddenly she fell to her knees gasping for breath. Her body able to feel and move as if it had not happened only her own deep breathing a sign anything had.

"What...who are you." Lucario said between breaths.

"Nobody of concern right now... And good luck on your goal." The voice said, seeming to really have no real voice in her head but a mass of words pushed in there.

"My goal..." Lucario muttered, only able to think of one, something she had played in her mind so many times on how she could do, something she-

"Lucario!" Leon yelled, standing at the door to the Pokemart, his arm waving wildly "Come on, I'm hungry!"

"...Leon..." Lucario said staring at him. She smiled faintly bolting forward, taking advantage of her small form to slip around buildings to get to him in only a minute, stopping just short of slamming into him, a faint part of her feeling sad to not get the contact she almost gained. Her thoughts causing her to miss as her trainer has already ran through the door. A faint smirk on her face, "Always eager when it involves food."
As she pushed the door in she looked around dully while she thought, 'And good luck on your goal' was playing over in her mind. What were her goal?

"Okay I want that, two of those, and...does that come with free refills?" Leon said, his voice faint over the crowds of people either eating at the tables of browsing the main side of the store. The inside of this place looked more like a restaurant then a normal Pokemart. "Hey Lucario? Are you hungry?" Leon said looking at her. She had almost stumbled into him in her distraction.

"Oh nothing, I'm not hungry." Lucario said, a deep growl from her stomach saying otherwise. Leon just left off a soft smile.

"Should I take that as a yes then?" Leon said, Lucario nodded, and was glade for her fur that covered her blushing...could Pokemon blush? "Okay then, do you want the usual stuff?" Leon went on.

"Umm, What ever you are eating." Lucario muttered.
"Hmm, if your sure. Okay make a double on everything I ordered!" Leon said, seeming to be getting more eager for food.

"Okay kid, just wait at that table over there and when its done we will send it your way." The man Leon had been addressing said, waving them away so the next two could get in line. They walked smashed between people causing them to need to squeeze up next to each-other tightly to get through, Lucario enjoyed the feeling of her body pushed against Leon's own. Wondering if he felt the same for her.

"There we go." Leon said as they finally pushed themselves into the open seats, of a empty table. Lucario clinging to Leon for a second before pulling back.

"Sorr...sorry." Lucario muttered as she sat in the seat opposed him.

"Hmm, what's the matter Lucario, something on your mind?" Leon said. Lucario blinked staring again, while he was a good trainer and took good care of her, he never seemed to be very good at reading emotions, normally needing to be told for him to realize...was it that noticeable that she was bothered?

"It's nothing...its just..." Lucario stopped herself again...her 'goal' was not coming any time soon, switching over to another thought. "We just got those credits and the majority of its going to be spent on food." Leon laughed.

"Don't worry, after we go to win a few matches in the local gym, we will have plenty to spare. Until then we might as well fill up to get ready, there are going to be a lot of battles we will have to go through to get to fight the gym leader." Leon said as he looked back hoping to see through the crowd enough to spot a sign their food was coming. Lucario smiled softly, at him, he had faith in her, and he trusted her. Why was she thinking on this right now?

"I'm amazed your not a thousand pounds by now." Lucario said still smiling as he spotted a glimpses of a Alakazam holding two large plates of food, using its own psychic power over the crowd to avoid bumping it into anyone. Leon's mouth watered eagerly for his future meal.

"I'll get up there eventually." Leon said as the food landed on their table, a Alakazam standing at their table seeming to look at Lucario with a odd glint in its eyes. "So um, this will call cost about 600 credits, right?" Leon said, not noticing the look the Alakazam was giving. The Pokemon looked back at Leon giving him the same look for a second before nodding. Leon stuff his hand in his pocket, pulling out a large wad of money, quickly pulling the needed amount out of the wad then returning the rest to his pocket. Lucario sighed faintly.

'That's what he gets for rushing.' She thought

"Okay here you go." Leon said as he handed the Pokemon the credits, smiling as he looked back to his own meal a large smile on his face exposing his unnaturally sharp teeth. Lucario smiled softly before pulling the treys her way, just out of Leon's reach. "I was planning to eat that." Leon said waving his hands at the food in a over exaggerated way.

"I need to get my food first otherwise you might end up eating it all." Lucario said Pulling her share of the food off the trey before pushing it back over.

"Yes!" Leon said, stuffing a apple in his mouth shortly after. Lucario stared for a second before going to look at her own food. It was a mix of fruits and vegetables, mostly soaked in honey. Lucario's favorite thing was the taste of honey. But Lucario gave the funny look, Leon never liked honey, why would it been there? She glanced up to see his was free of any such covering.

"How..." Lucario shook her head stopping herself, noticing half of Leon's own food was already gone.

"Well that was good." Leon said as he stuffed the last berry down his mouth finishing his food. Lucario sighed, she had barley started.

"Sorry...I'm not as full as I thought I was." Lucario said

"It's okay we can save it for later." Leon said, "Wait a bit I'll be right back." Leon got out of his seat running through the crowd, leaving her to herself.

"Leon...I..." She closed her eyes bringing her paws to her chest, crossing them over the stop where most of her kind had a large spike, her own had placed themselves in a way to line her back.

"You're a rather interesting creature." A old man said taking Leon's seat as he popped out from the crowd. He leaned forward as he spoke, his visible teeth looking like fallen over tomb stones. "Now why are you sitting here by yourself?" Lucario just stared confused as to the man's sudden appearance. "You don't seem to be wild." The old man went on.

"Who are you?" Lucario said, thankful for the table's length, keeping her away from the man.

"Now where is your tri-" The old man was stopped as a hand rested on his shoulder.

"Isn't it rude to push yourself into another person meal?" Leon said as he squeezed on the man's shoulder. The old man laughed as he got up.

"Quite right, sorry child I was just enjoying the sight of such a rare form of Lucario." The old man said laughing. "Now, how much would she cost?"

"Not for sale." Leon said

"Come now, this is a rare look for a Lucario, she would be worth plenty of coin, surly you would be willing to part with her for the right price." The old man said.

"Sorry but we need to leave." Leon said, pulling Lucario softly to her feet.

"Just remember lad, when a person says 'not for sale' all they mean is they can't be bought cheep" The old man said just before they were out of hearing range. Lucario felt as he pushed her tightly into his side. Feeling a joy in his touch and how close she was to him even through it was just out of the events with the old man. Lucario looked up with concern at her trainer his silver eyes seeming to hang in a aggravated state. It bothered her to see him in such a state just because a old man had asked to buy her.

"Leon...are you okay?" Lucario said trying to push her voice to his ears past the loud ringing voices of the people around them.

"Yea....I'm fine." Leon said looking down with a fake show of the eager smile he had given before after seeing the food.

"If your sure...Leon." Lucario said as she looked down at the side she was plastered up against of her trainer. A memory of the past sparking in her head of the past. When she had first meant this boy with silver eyes and teeth that looked as if made to rip at flesh. She had saved him when she was still a Riolu, or more or less they saved each other. Yet she remembered a day before it, the night when she had first seen him, and what inspired her to help when other Pokemon walked away at the sight of a human, unwilling to help him against the wave of Pidgey.

It had been a year ago, when she had still been a Riolu and had just lost her parents to a pair of Pokemon trainer not far away from where she was left. She had wondered days, growing to hate humans, these creatures who so rudely had taken her family from her. Her mind thinking harshly on them as she walked alone in the woods. Their exposed skin, strange clothes and odd speech, it seemed as if they were monsters in her eyes.

"Now where is that food." A young boy said. Riolu looking over to a open spot of the forest she had almost blundered through, the human boy she knew now as Leon digging through the same old bag he had now, thick with unused items left over from years before mashing new items he added to the bag as he picked them up on his travels. She looked curiously at him. The boy was as he did now throwing to the side items he did not need in other to get to his prize, a metal water bottle with dents covering its frame, a broken pokeball, and a silver ring. Laying each thing to the side as he finally pulled out a bundle of food, fruits laid inside amazingly in good condition despite where they had been.

"Hey there." Leon said looking over at a single Pidgey in the grass hopping near the glowing fire that rested in the center of his camp. "Are you as lonely as me?" He said handing a bright red apple to the Pokemon as he looked eagerly at his own food. "Want to hang around?" Leon said coming out of his trance at the sight of food. The Pidgey looked sideways at him before grabbing the apple from his feet and flying away. "I guess not." He said pushing a bright red apple into his mouth, his sharp teeth ripping easily into it.

The Riolu watched as he ate, stuffing food into his open mouth, amazed as to how he could contain it on his thin frame. Her own mouth watering as she saw him eat at the large sum of food. Could she ask get some like that Pidgey did? What if he tries to catch her? Did he already know where she was? The boy yawned, his voice leaving making her feel more welcome by the boy. He seemed to stare at the fire for a minute before falling asleep.

She waited for what felt like hours before walking out into the camp ground of the boy. Noticing that he had yet to put the things he had taken out back into his bag. She walked softly aware of each sound made as her feet hit the ground, feeling like her attempts to be careful were making her walk even louder. The fire was weakened to a soft glow as she finally reached it and the boy. He lay illuminated with his white hair seeming to make the area even lighter.

"Hey Lucario wake up we need to train before you go to sleep." Leon said staring at her. While they had been walking she had fallen asleep on his arms. Her eyes weakly opening sad that she did not see all of her dream about the past. She was starting to enjoy it.

"Ugh, five more minutes." Lucario said closing her eyes again, a pat her head by trainer waking her up again.

"I already reserved a room at the Pokemon center, we will have plenty of time to sleep after you train." Leon said softly placing her on the forest floor. "Now We mostly have attack down, but we are not going to last against this next few battles on power alone. I bought information on this a move that I think should help to keep you from getting battered as much when we end up fighting the stronger trainers. A move called Double Team. I want you to read over this." Leon hands Lucario a large rolled up paper. ", and then try to do as it says. She shrugged not really thinking she needed any new moves to protect her. She yawned as she read over the contents of the paper, telling her information and examples she already mostly knew. "Do you think you can do it?" Leon said after a few minutes.

"Are you kidding? I can figure this move out in seconds." Lucario said in reply.

"Okay then, grace us with your skill." Leon said jokingly bowing. Lucario jumped back waiting for the command.

"Double Team!" Leon yelled, waiting for her reaction. Lucario looked to her left and right seeing copy's of herself move with a mind of their own. "I guess you were..." Leon's eyes went dull suddenly and then he fell over paralyzed. His body shaking as he lay face down open eyed on the forest floor.

"Leon!" Lucario yelled landing to the ground the copy's fading as she ran to him, flipping him up to face her. "Leon!" She yelled again.

"I have yet to see any Pokemon help someone by simply yelling their name." What sounded like a Ninetail's said inside her mind.

"Did you paralyze him?" Lucario said looking back to see in fact a Ninetails, her fur a deep white like Lucario's own.

"Sorry, had to." The Ninetails said in a mater-of-fact way.

"Why would you have to...." Lucario stopped speaking as a old man's aura became noticeable, it felt weak and decrepit, a mix of wealth and hunger hidden in it.

"So we meet again." The own man bowed and he walked out of the tree's. "Forgive me dear, but I don't think I quite have the money to convince the boy to give me your person. So I improvised a plan rather in a hurry."

"You..." Lucario lifted a paw at the man. "Aura Sphere!" Lucario said in replace of the command of Leon.

"Now dear girl, surly you can be reasonable." The old man said as he looked at her hand as it started to pulse with energy. "Ninetails, Protect!" The Ninetails rushed to the old mans side, its eyes flashing as a blast of Aura hit them, seeming to go at a constant barrage against the shield.

"Stop protecting him." Lucario yelled at the Ninetails.

"Isn't it common for a Pokemon to protect its trainer?" The Ninetails said in reply, starting to have a challenge holding up against the never ending blast.

"Is someone who tries to buy Pokemon off people even worth protecting?" Lucario said, her paw starting to blacken, small bolts of energy jumping to the side as she started to walk forward, the blast starting to bend Ninetails's protect ability.

"As long as he owns my Pokeball it's not like I can just attack him." The Ninetails said.

"Give me a second and I will get your Pokeball from him." Lucario said.

"Ninetails." The old man said, "What's with that look, I don't want to weakening your hold on that protect ability, I paid good money to get you, don't waste my time if you can't even protect your maste-" He was cut short as Ninetails dived out of the way, letting the old man take a full blast to the face with the Aura Sphere. Lucario smiled faintly as she walked over to the old mans form, he had lived but it was unlikely he would walk for a long time, his left leg was bent and mangled. She tried to move her left arm only to find it limp and the smell of burnt hair and flesh hanging around it. Ignoring her own pain she pulled the pokeball out of the man's hand with her right paw. Limped back over to her trainer, Leon. His body was calm and he seemed to simply be sleeping now.

"Leon." Lucario said.

"ugh....five more minutes." Leon said rolling on his side.

"I think I would rather like him as a master." The Ninetails said as she walked over.

"He prefers if you call him by name." Lucario said as she moved his head to rest on top of his bag to make his sleep a little better as best she could.

"So what's his name?" Ninetails said.

"Leon." Lucario said as she rested herself beside him.

"Leon? What a interesting name." The Ninetails said.
