So corro has announced a new type of evolution in the new upcoming Pokemon X and Y series. it states that You achieve those forms of evolution in-battle. it is not said that it stays in this form after battle,, or that the pokemon will devolve. what it DOEs state is that Pokemon will achieve different stats, and even Different Types!
here ist the link to the topic itself: http://serebii.net/xy/megaevolutions.shtml
In my own opinion I can say, as much as some of those megaevolutions do look cool and that it is some sort of interesting feature to have a temporal boost in-battle if it doesn´t turn out too well, I still think that it is a really huge jump, and might be changing the whole gameplay alot, it is interesting to have this, but it also completely breaks the old habit that pokemon is in with a permanent evolution through leveling. It sorta reminds me of the anime where your pokemon are able to evolve while battle and don´t have to finish each battle.

Ok wait, so this type of evolution isn't permanent?
It's like the creative team of Gamefreak smoked weed and watched/played Digimon / Yugioh.
Honestly this new thing detracts the whole Pokémon franchise, because there are plenty of franchises who use such kind of 'evolution'. The megaevo's look also 'uncuddly' as the evolved monsters of Digimon / Yugioh are. And yes, it's only 'to fight' but eh, till X & Y they designed (almost) every (evolution of) Pokémon so that it doesn't look like a war machine |=(:/
It's indeed giving a new breath to the battle thing. But why can't they keep such monster-battle-thing unique and blatantly copy elements from other franchises?
Anyway, I find it a dumb move. Just like some music bands stop at the moment that they've reached the(ir) highest milestone, GameFreak could rather end the good old story of Pokémon and just launch a different monster-battle franchise.

Okay, I have to say, if it is a temporary thing they will lose my fandom... I will play the games and enjoy them, but I will not go around saying "Oh yeah I love Pokemon blah and blah"
If it is a full evolution I will just wait until they reveal more. Basically what this will be is like the opposite of the "baby" evolutions if it is permanent.Keep in mind, Pikachu used to be the first of its line, then Pichu came along which was cuter AND much weaker, so if this is what it sounds like, these will be a way of adding HIGHER evolutions without having to rebalance everyone's favorite Pokemon. I actually think this is a logical move especially with all the fans saying "We want Absol, Lucario, blahblahblah evolutions" when Absol is currently the strongest pokemon in direct moves, so instead of changing that and ruining many fans strateges in the competition, add new evolutions that change up peoples strategies. Keep in mind that even if these are uber powerful and can be unstoppable, that even the mightiest of pokemon can be brought dowm with a good strategy.
Now, I love the idea, but there are a few things I hope they don't do:
1. Because of this make legendaries legal in competitions and other ingame stuff.
2. Make this a way of making every Pokemon OP.
Now, there are rumors that it is a held item, and so if it is I only beg Nintendo/gamefreak that only one of these can spawn. If so, that means it's just another way to have fun and mess around, and get these things easier.
I have on more thing to close this post with, that this is just pre-release. DO NOT base all of your opinions on this piece of news. I don't want to hear a bunch of people saying "Well I will never play Pokemon X and Y because of Megaevolutions" just like triple and rotation battles. I know for a fact that many people argued that triple and rotation battles were ridiculous, but it was a brilliant change up from the normal battles allowing for strategies based on range of attacks with most being able to hit in a double battle range and others hitting opposite ends of the field, but many people who argued that triple battles and rotation battled were bad have not played the game, and should go try at least Black or White.
Also, these are just RUMORS until seen in-game, for now all we know is they are legit and that they will make an appearance in some way.

From what I've heard about this so far (which is not very much) I think it sounds pretty neat. I think it'll most likely work like alternate forms, similar to shaymin or deoxis.
The forms probably wont be too much different then their current forms other than being a different type and maybe some minor stat changes (the designs point to that by how they don't look too much different either). This can correct some type imbalances. It's obvious that GameFreak screwed up when they made 3 fire type starters in a row all evolve into a fire/fighting type so by giving a new form to blaziken, this can be them remedying that. It can maybe activate if the pokemon defeats a certain enemy in a certain way or something. If the form end up only lasting a certain amount of time and then spontaneously turns back it'd be a bit weird but I fail to see how that would ruin the game like some of you are suggesting. I'm gonna trust gamefreak on this one. I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing.

Temporary mid-battle evolutions from relatively cute forms into badass forms? Sounds very Digimon-like to me. Of course, I love Digimon. I predict transformation sequences, hopefully skippable ones if this comes into play very often.
Anyway, this looks more like a mode-change than a "real" evolution to me, considering that some of the Pokémon involved are stage 2 evolved Pokémon already. I'm a little surprised they're billing these transformations as "evolution", since the comparisons to Digimon are much easier to make because of it.
This feature could be cool, but it could also be very stupid. We'll have to wait and see how it goes.
Other than that, I find it utterly amusing that even with his new red-pawed hero form, Lucario remains just under four feet tall.

Yea, I'm hoping for a battle-only forme or something like that, but requiring the stone as a held item. Competitive battles would be more interesting to say the least (Trick, anyone?). I really hope it won't be an in-battle use item just to trigger a temporary 'evolution'.
Or maybe it'll be like the berries that only trigger the change at low hp?

Following yesterdays reveal of the new Pokémon, and the Mega Evolutions, some clear images have surfaced which showcase some of these Pokémon in battle. It also provides a few further bits of information. First, Pokémon can only Mega Evolve when they are holding a Mega Stone. Mega Stones are a type of item like Evolutionary Stones and include specific items such as the Blazikenite that the event Torchic holds. The Blazikenite is not found within normal gameplay. It also confirms that Mega Evolutions are temporary, being only in battle. It confirms that not all Pokémon will have Mega Evolutions. The Master Tower has a connection to Mega Evolutions It also confirms stat increases, stating that MegaLucario's Attack is higher. MegaAbsol has increased Attack & Speed. We also can confirm that Meekuru has the ability Sap Sipper. Finally, it also confirms that Super Training will increase Pokémon's "Kiso" Points. This is what EVs are commonly called in Japan. 05:33: Next month's CoroCoro to feature new Pokémon, new Mega Evolutions and type chart featuring the Fairy-type
While I'm not wild about the Mega-design for Blaziken or Lucario as they look like a bad deviant art fursona, I'm down with the idea itself. I was texting my roommate yesterday and we were concerned that this mega-evolution would change the entire game, but that doesn't appear to be quite the case. It seems like a balanced idea for some Pokemon to gain a temporary in-battle stat boost at the expense of their hold item. Don't really think Blaziken, Mewtwo, or Lucario really needed it, but Absol, Mawile, and even Ampharos could use the boost. Absol and Mawile were two Pokemon my roommate and I have talked about that could use an evolve form to keep them more competitively viable (still want that baby-evolution for Absol, it would be adorable!).
But more importantly, they'll finally confirm by next month what the damage given and taken for the Fairy type is.
Edit: Apparently the MegaAmpharos type changes into Electric/Dragon, MegaMawile gets the ability Huge Power, and Absol gets the ability Magic Bounce. That makes this whole thing like ten times cooler to me.
MegaBlaziken and MegaLucario get Speed Boost and Adaptability respectively, but that's not as exciting for me.
