Gamma's Story by gamma

Rehabilitation

Hello there again. I trust you want to hear more about me, so I shall continue.

I was waken suddenly by a shifting in the bed. I opened my eyes to see what caused it, and saw Jenny standing next to the bed. She was staring out the window as the storm from last night continued to rage. She sighed heavily, probably disappointed that she couldn't go out on a hike. Turning around, she noticed that I was awake.

"Oh, Gamma. Did I wake you up?" she asked me. I nodded slowly to her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

She reached down and began to stroke my fur. I arched my back as she scratched between my shoulders, enjoying the pleasure it brought to me.

"You hungry, Gamma?" she asked. Once again, I nodded in response to her question. She stood up and walked out of the bedroom. She returned a few minutes later with two dishes. She placed one in front of me, which was filled with chopped fruit. She kept the other one and ate its contents, which consisted of a few slices of toast. We ate our breakfasts together, watching the storm outside. When I finished, she took the bowl she'd lain in front of me and walked out of the room once again. She returned and picked me up, carrying me into the living room. She laid me on the couch and sat down along side me. She picked up the black object that was on the arm of the couch and turned on the strange box.

"Yet another body has been found near Ryca. Suspicions of human involvement are surfacing, as police found metallic shards in the corpse, most likely from a knife of some kind." the reporter stated.

"Oh, not another one" Jenny said sadly. "Tom might have been right last night, maybe there is some conspiracy against Pokemon."

"Also in the news: Captain Raney of Ryca's Island Transportation is interviewed about the bodies he's found. But first, bad news for Pokemon trainers and owners in or around Elysia. The truck containing the shipment of PokeFlu vaccinations for Elysia was hijacked earlier this morning. The empty truck was found about a mile north of the town. The driver has not been found yet. It is suggested that all Elysia residents lock their doors and windows and be sure to alert the police about any suspicious persons."

"Oh no. We can't get you vaccinated yet I guess, Gamma. We'll have to wait for the next shipment of the vaccination to get here."

I looked at her, not understanding why.

"We live in Elysia, Gamma" she explained. Well, now it made sense, I didn't know what her home was called.

The door slammed open. Jenny and I both shifted our gazes to see what was going on. Tom was visible in the doorway, dripping wet from the rain. He was dressed completely in black, and his face was partially hidden under a hat he was wearing.

"Tom! What are you doing back already?" Jenny asked him.

"They told me they didn't need me today because of the rain" he replied quickly.

"Why wouldn't they need you just because of the rain?"

"I was scheduled to do outdoor work today, but because it's raining, they told me I didn't have to."

"One more question for you Tom, why are you dressed in black?"

"I just grabbed some clothes before I left and I wasn't really paying attention to them. I guess I just happened to get black clothes." Something about his demeanor wasn't right. "I heard what happened to that truck on the radio when I got there. Too bad, huh?"

"Yeah..."

He walked past us and into his bedroom. Jenny and I watched him the whole way. I noticed a small tear in his pants. I began to get suspicious of Tom that day, something about him was all wrong. I wasn't sure what it was at the time, but something was definitely weird about him.

"Well, since we can't really do anything, you up for trying to walk again, Gamma?" Jenny asked, turning her attention back to me. I nodded and planted my paws beneath me, slowly rising to a standing position. I was surprised this time that I was able to maintain the posture.

"Alright, getting better, Gamma. Now, try walking towards me" she commanded, backing away a few paces. I slowly put one paw in front of the other, and my balance ended. I clumsily fell over, falling off the couch. I landed hard on my left side.

"Gamma, are you okay?" Jenny asked worriedly. I rolled onto my belly, stood up once again, and tried to take another step. I managed to plant the paw in front of me this time, but when I lifted another to step forward, I tumbled over again.

"Gamma, why don't you stop for a minute."

I shook my head, determined to be able to move under my own power. I stood up and took one step forward, falling flat on my face.

"Gamma, don't do this to yourself, take it easy."

I ignored her. I intended that by the end of the day, I would be able to walk again. I continued for well over an hour, getting back up, taking a step, falling, and trying again. Eventually, I was able to take that step without losing my balance. I took another step, maintaining my standing posture. I thought for a moment that I had beaten it. I began to walk around the room, but I didn't get too far. I thought wrong. After taking a couple steps, I once again found myself lying on the floor. Jenny came up behind me and picked me up. I struggled against her grip, desperate to continue, but she held me tight.

"Gamma, calm down. You've made a lot of progress so far, you should get some rest" she said soothingly. I continued to struggle. Realizing I wasn't strong enough to escape her, I settled down, accepting it. She laid me on the couch once more and sat next to me.

"Just take a break, that's all I ask. I don't want you to hurt yourself." She gently stroked me, giving me a very worried look. "Did you want something to eat? It's almost noon."

I stared up at her for a moment before answering. I really wanted to be able to move under my own power again, but I knew I was probably taking it too far. I shook my head, turning down her offer.

"You sure?" she asked.

I looked her in the eyes and nodded. I really wasn't that hungry. I did take a break like she asked me to though. All the effort had tired me out, so I decided the best way to stop and make sure I wasn't tempted to start again was to take a nap. I curled up against Jenny's body and closed my eyes.

When I awoke, I noticed it was no longer raining. I also noticed that Tom was now also in the living room, watching the box which he called a 'TV'. Jenny was still sitting next to me, and she looked down when I raised my head.

"Hey there, you awake?" she asked me playfully. I looked up at her, smiling. She scratched the top of my head, behind my right ear. I tilted my head, giving her better access to the spot as I enjoyed the feeling of it. She stopped and I looked up at her face. "You hungry now?" I nodded to her in response. She stood up and left the room.

Jenny returned a moment later, carrying two bowls, which she set on the floor. She picked me up and put me next to them. I gazed into them, seeing one filled with water, while the other had the Pokefood in it, but it had something else in it as well. I sniffed it, realizing that it was berry juice. Pecha juice to be precise, one of my favorites. I quickly dug into the bowl, savoring the mix of flavors. When I finished eating, Jenny removed the two bowls and took them back into the kitchen. She returned and lifted me up, placing me back on the couch and sat next to me.

Impatient to start trying again, I stood up on the couch. Jenny looked over at me as I did this. I took a step forward, maintaining my balance. With some difficulty, I managed to turn myself around to face Jenny. She was watching me intently. I took a step towards her, struggling slightly to keep my balance. She must have noticed my legs wobbling, as she reached over, coaxing me into a sitting posture.

"Take it easy, Gamma. I think you've done enough for now. You seem to be a lot stronger now, and I don't want you to overexert yourself" she said.

I hung my head. I knew I was taking my recovery too far. I wanted to regain my strength, but I knew I was going to hurt myself like this. I decided to continue my rehabilitation the next day.

Day one of my rehabilitation. Yeah, I did make some remarkable recovery, but I still wasn't going to beat it in a single day. I'll pick up on the story at a later time, I'm not feeling too well right now.
