It was the next morning, as through the dense trees sunlight could be seen and as the two now friends, Charke and Helen, set out to find the cause of the strange things that Charke had sensed recently. It was still telling him to keep looking in the area, so they kept a firm eye out for anything even remotely suspicious. Although with the general bustle of the woods, it was difficult to tell exactly what to look out for. At first Charke thought, that morning, that maybe he was just being pointed to yesterday's events, given that it wasn't exactly normal fair to be knocked out and brought right into the company of a total stranger. Though the strange feeling was still ever-lingering, so he decided to press on.
After about twenty minutes into the search, as breakfast was gathered and an early break was decided on, Helen decided to break the relative silence of that day.
"Hmm, nothing so far...", she mentioned.
"It's barely been half an hour since we started, I doubt anything would happen so soon.", he replied.
"So...what exactly are we looking for again?", she said, getting a little anxious.
"I don't know, that's exactly why we're looking around.", finding himself a little anxious as well.
"I suppose that makes sense. But it there anything, say, small details you might know about?", she asked.
"Well, no but the feeling is starting to get stronger as we go along, I'm sure something is going to happen eventually.", he replied.
"I wouldn't misjudge your sense anyway, it's the reason why we ended up meeting anyway", the memory of yesterday and her accidentally knocking him out after a fight with her ex-boyfriend still quite fresh in her mind.
"Speaking of that, if you don't mind, may I ask how exactly you two ended up fighting?", he said, hoping he wouldn't get her upset.
She let out a sigh, "Well, actually, everything was going about fine. That is, until..."
Flashing back to the last day, about two hours after her boyfriend, Leo, had left, he had finally got back from hunting and food gathering. He came back in a very sorry state, and told her that last week, when one of their friends, a Charizard, had had her mate die when he had gotten into a fight with a pack of angry Fearow, that she came onto him and they had brief relations together. Hearing this, she went into a serious rage and that's how things ended up the way that they did.
"I'm sure you must've been furious. Although she was probably that deep in grief that things ended up that way, he still had no right to cheat on you like that. I'm sorry."
"I know what you mean, and it's okay. I may still be angry with him, I'm sure that if I ever saw him again I'd try to make up.", she said, starting to think that maybe she over-reacted yesterday.
"Well, then I guess we have another thing to look out for. Speaking of, we should probably be going."
After he got up, she nodded and followed along with him, once again keeping her eyes and ears out for anything strange. But as they continued, they soon came upon a scene happening in a small clearing. A group of four Mankeys were staring down a small Pichu, each of them as angry as the next. Seeing this they quickly hid, trying to see what was going on.
"So, did you think you could steal from us and get away with it?"
Obviously in a panic, the little Pokemon struggled for words, "I-I'm sorry, I was-"
"You were what? Just trying to snatch some food? It that it?"
"No, well, yes and-"
"And you thought that nothing would happen? That everything would be just fine if we found out?!"
"I'm sorry, I won't do it again!"
"And that's because we're going to make you regret ever trying to steal from us!"
Meanwhile, Charke and Helen were contemplating whether or not to do something about this situation. Charke may have been strong, but he was no match against their numbers, while Helen was easily capable of taking them on, though she wasn't one to want to start a fight.
"I think we should help him! It doesn't seem right for him to be punished just for this.", she said even though she didn't really know what to do about this kind of situation.
"What do you think we oughta do? From the looks of it, it probably wouldn't be right to punish them either."
"I say we go for a non-violent approach."
"It's better than just standing here, c'mon let's go.", he said as they both rushed in just in time to stop them from hurting the small boy.
"Alright, what's going on here?", she asked in a firm voice.
"Who are you two? Can't you see we're busy?!", one of them said.
"I don't know exactly what he did, but I say that you leave him alone, we don't want to fight.", he said, trying to calm things down.
"What he did was steal food from us, the little brat! So unless you want to do something about it, then bug off!", another one said.
"We could always just get you more, we're not busy.", she replied, considering this was as much of something they could be looking for as anything.
"You'd really stick up for this little snack thief? Well then, fine, but be quick about it! We're not going to wait all day!", said the first.
Accepting their offer, the now calmed-down gang of Mankeys listed the food they wanted, though it was doubtful that so much could be pilfered by a mere Pichu, they weren't complaining. After finishing gathering everything that was wanted, they returned to find the boy unharmed, as they agreed, and giving them all the food they brought, they were now left with a small Pichu who now felt bad that he made so much trouble for these strangers.
"I really want to thank you for saving me, I really owe you two for it."
"It's no trouble, as I said, we're not busy.", she said, feeling glad to have done something good for the day.
"Well, I wouldn't say that Helen. We're still looking for something suspicious. Still, I guess that this would probably count."
"Not to be rude, but what exactly are you talking about when you say "something suspicious"?", the now curious boy asked.
"It's a long story, sure you want to hear it?", he asked back.
"It's fine, I'd really like to know, if you wouldn't mind."
And know he did, as they both explained everything that had happened so far, Charke's strange sense that led him here and Helen's tussle with her ex that ended up in her tagging along. Although, him being young and all, explaining some of the things was a little more difficult than first thought. Still, eventually they explained everything and how they were still looking for something, anything, out of the ordinary.
"So, any questions?", he said trying to make sure all of this got to him.
"Can I come?"
"Wait, what?!", he said, about as surprised as when Helen asked if she could come yesterday.
"We'd be glad to have you come with us! Would your parents approve though?", she asked.
After saying this, the boy quickly started to burst into tears.
"Whoa! I'm sorry! Is everything all right?", she said, a little embarrassed.
"Well...*sniff*...the thing is..."
He slowly began to explain about how he didn't actually have any parents. He was abandoned as a child, and still doesn't know why or where his parents could be, or if they were even alive. He had been living alone or in temporary company of someone else as long as he could remember.
"I'm really sorry to hear that. I never knew who or even where my parents were either, y'know", he said, understanding that kind of pain.
"So I guess you can come with us after all. I wouldn't sleep knowing you were out there all alone.", she said.
"Y-You really mean it?"
"If you really want to...then sure.", he said.
The boy's face lit up with joy.
"But it could be dangerous! Are you still sure you want to come?", he said, not wanting harm to come to someone so young.
"I doubt it's going to be anymore dangerous than being out there, all alone.", she said.
"That's true. But I don't think you've told us your name yet.", he replied.
"My name's Priscillo, my friends call me Pris.", he said with a certain pride.
"Well then Pris, welcome to the group!", she said.
After the events of the day, Charke, Helen and Pris decided to set up camp as it was already quite dark and they were all quite tired from the rather long day. With new goals and a new friend, it looks like tomorrow would be a big day.
