To Sleepy Hollow!

To Sleepy Hollow!

Mecha: *is dressed up in armor, with a stuffed headless horsemen on his back* Good evening to you all. Halloween is but a short while away. Even now, the call of the night goes out, calling forth all of the monsters, and bringing out the absolute darkness. I love this time of year. *smirks* Tricks and treats applenty for you all I'm sure. And what of Inferno, Sky, Bane, Rika, Blaze, Tia, Death, and Ferra? Well...they're in for an adventure that they'll never forget. *laughs darkly* Enjoy the tale...and make sure to check your closets and under the bed...you never know what Hallow's eve will call out at...*darkness engulfs the view* Night.

Inferno yawned, stretching out as he got up. It had been awhile since they had beaten down Team Rocket, had their celebration, and set off to do more traveling. Death and Ferra had tagged along, and everyone was pretty glad of it. Death was an okay fellow now that he stopped being a murderous ass-hole, and Ferra was just plain pleasent. Bane was happy he had his brother from way back when returned...more or less. Inferno gave a silent chuckle, as Sky yawned and looked up. "Morning Inferno."

"Morning Sky." he licked her cheek, getting a giggle and smile from her. Inferno had noticed she was a touch more emotional, but he dismissed it as nothing. He looked around, and saw that Death was also up, a wing drapped over Ferra for both warmth, and protection. "So where's the next stop, oh fearless leader?"

Inferno smirked, "Well gee...I find your manners so nice I thought we'd just walk around aimlessly for a bit."

"Pancakes!" Rika blurted out in her sleep, getting looks from everyone who was either already up, or had been forced up. Bane was of the latter, having been kicked in the face during her outburst.

Death ahemed, "Well...as much as Sky might love walking around like that...if for nothing else then to get you on her several times a day..." she went crimson. "I'd like a direction...now surely such a well traveled mon must have some idea on where to go?"

Inferno thought about it, then nodded, "I know...how about we go to the Sleepy Hollow Grove?"

Sky tilted her head, "What's there?" Death thought he knew, but he couldn't believe it.

Inferno smirked, "Nothing much...short of a galloping rapidash, ablaze in earie blue flames, and atop it, rides a scourge of the area, known as the Headless Horsemen. As his name implies, he's without a head, or so they say, and he rides at night, looking for his enemy." Inferno tried to look scary, "For he was once a night, till a rock throw knocked off his head, but so great was his lust for battle, that he never stopped."

Death shook his head, "You can't really believe that!"

Inferno shrugged, "I didn't believe that a demon like Orochi existed, but I was wrong. After everything that's happened...I'll believe damn near anything now."

Death grumbled, he had a point, "But still...I mean...a headless horsemen? Get real, there's no such thing."

"I agree with Death." Rika was up, and she looked a tad...scared.

"Oh really? And you're not just scared?" Bane jabbed at her.

She turned on him, "Of course not! I'm not afraid of a non-existent ghost!"

Bane smirked, "Then how about we go? Or are you too scared?"

"I'm not scared! I'll prove it! We're going!" she crossed her arms, and humphed, heading off, then stopped, "Umm...which way is it Inferno?" The houndoom snickered, pointing in the exact opposite direction. Rika nodded, turned, and began marching, "let's go!"

Death rolled his eyes, "This is going to be a waste of time."

The gang was en route for Sleepy Hollow Grove. Rika leading the way to show that she wasn't scared. Ferra was riding on Death's back, as usual, before looking to Inferno, "What more can you tell us about the Headless Horsemen, Inferno?" She spoke in a hushed tone, smiling.

Inferno smiled too, "Well...they say that he persues anyone he comes across, viewing all as evil enemies. A fallen night he is, no doubt of that. They even tell tales of one poor human who was caught by the Horsemen. I think his name was...Ickynod...no...Ichabod Crane...yeah that's it. Well Ichabod was trying to marry this pretty girl, but he had competition. But one night, Ichabod was seen being chased by the Horsemen. He was never seen again. Now some thought it was the guy who was competing with Ichabod, some thought it was a man who didn't like Ichabod's job, but those thoughts vanished when the horsemen kept appearing after the suspected parties were all dead." He gave a dark cackle, getting Rika's spine to stiffen, "All we know now...is that the Headless Horseman rides at night, wanting more enemies to burn!"

Death snickered, enjoying the reaction Rika had to the tale. He still didn't believe the horsemen existed, but at least this trip would be fun. Tia was surpressing a giggle, "Do you really think we'll find him Inferno?"

Inferno smirked, "We won't find him...he'll find us." Rika gave a light spark.

Sky snickered under her breath, "If he's headless then how does he see?"

"Some say he uses a pumpkin. But there are tale's still of him having a black skull, floating where his head should be." He smiled, "They say that it's the spirit of his head, but since it can fly off, he remains the headless horsemen."

Blaze smirked, "Scary...better watch out Rika...he might want your head."

"He's n..n..n..not real!" she was stiff as a board, still keeping on the path.

Bane gave a laugh, "poor me...my Rika's gonna wind up like Ichabod Crane."

"AM NOT!!!" Rika sparked up, a defence to her fear.

Bane chuckled, "I hope so honey."

Rika grumbled, stiffly walking on. "You can't scare me."

Inferno snickered, "less." Sky giggled, giving his side a light head-butt.

Death chuckled, "Don't worry Rika...it's just an old wives tale...besides if it's true...I'm sure Bane will come running to your rescue...well...maybe...he might find it nice if you didn't have a head...after all, he says you talk so much."

Rika glared at Bane, "What!?" Bane glared at Death. How did he always do that?

Ferra giggled up, "you'll protect me right Deathy poo?"

Death grumbled, "I might not if you call me that again." Ferra gigled some more, hugging him and kissing his head. "Aww...don't be mad."

************

The night was silent, a slight draft was rusling the leaves. Rika was shivering, saying it was from cold. The gang had made it to Sleepy Hollow, and were wandering about, looking for the fabled horsemen. Death was still skeptical, the others were all shivering, though none of them really were convinced it was true, it was still fun. Rika was sparking up constantly, straining to look left and right, keeping an eye out for the horsemen she claimed she didn't fear.

Death smirked, and started talking in a real low voice. "gonna get'cha....gonna get'cha...." he increased the volume slightly, sneaking up behind Rika, "gonna get'cha...gonna get'cha..." she was trembling, as he got right behind her, "gonna....GET'CHA!"

Rika let out a scream, as bolts flew. Death lept back to avoid a shock, Bane not so lucky. Rika was panting, as she glared at Death, "NOT FUNNY!!!" though that was arguable, as everyone but Bane were on the ground, laughing hard. Rika puffed up, and turned, "Come on out Headless Horsemen! We're tired of looking for you!" She turned to the group, who had calm down, "There! See? He's not..."

"It is over, your search is done! Let fate now choose, the righteous one!" Rika's eyes went wide, as she slowly forced herself to look behind her, and saw what had the others staring, mouth agape. A rapidash, with blue flames, stood before them, and on it's back, was a black garbed rider. His head was gone and in his right hand was a very black blade. But before they could register this look, a black skull like thing, most likely a helmet, rested where the head should have been. It was awash in a green flame. "I've come to meet my foe! Dreadful pain you shall know!"

Rika's arms went limp, before she let out a loud scream, and ran for the hills. Inferno gulped, "I think she's got the right idea...run!" The gang bolted after Rika, as the Headless Horsemen gave chase. "Run till your legs fail! I'll be right on your tail!" The horsemen cackled, galloping after them.

"I thought you said he wasn't real Death!" Ferra screamed as they kept running.

"I also thought that I could beat down these guys by myself!" Death retorted, as he kept along side her.

"What do we do Inferno!?" Sky said as she kept going.

"I don't know! I thought he was a myth!"

"Ha! Tis you I spurn! Now feel...the burn!" The horsemen launch a ball of fire, which landed right behind Rika. The raichu gave another scream, before going even faster, leaving a trail of smoke from her tail. The gang were having trouble keeping up with her before, now it was a lost cause, but they still had to keep ahead of the horsemen. Inferno looked back, "Hey...he looks...kinda solid...maybe we can fight him!"

Bane stared at him, "Are you mad!? That's a fucking ghost man!"

"What other choice do we have!?" Inferno shot back.

Bane rolled his eyes, conceeding the point, when they all came to a halt. They had run to a river, one that was running to fast for them to swim across. They all turned to face the horsemen, and Rika just stared wide eyed. "Now is the time for you to fall! Your heads will drop at my blades call!" The horsemen kept rushing at them. Inferno gulped, before firing a dark fire beam. He hit the horsemen square in the chest, knocking him off his mount. The skull helm went flying a short distance away, as the body stood up. The horse had stopped at a tree. "Over here you idiot!" The head called to the body. Death rushed and hit the horsemen with a tackle, then a shadow ball. But it stood up again, and slashed, fast. Death narrowly avoided a skull splitting attack. "Holy fuck!"

The horsemen ran forward slashing and slicing, and Death was just able to avoid getting a head slashing death. Ferra helped her love, using a water gun to push the horsemen back. The head retook it's position atop the body, "Here's my body, fit and pure! Now your blackened souls I'll cure!" His horse appeared at his side, and we was back on it. He charged the group, and swung as he rode through them. Tia yelped, her arm getting a slice, "he managed to cut me!" They all backed away, gulping.

A bolt of lightning hit the horsemen, the head turning to the source...which was a very frightened chu. Bane took the opportunity to strike with an iron tail, getting a grunt from the horsemen, but not knocking him off his mount. Inferno growled, and was sure he knew how to stop the horsemen, "we need to destroy that head! The body won't break, but I'm sure the head will!" Blaze nodded, launching a psybeam at the horsemen, getting another grunt, but the addition of an ice beam finally managed to knock him off the horse. The steed trotted a short distance away, as the Headless Horsemen stood up, then raised his hand, "Soldiers arise! Stand and fight! Bring victory to this fallen knight!"

From the ground four pumpkin headed warriors appeared, brandishing blades. The soldiers charged, and the group had to deal with them and the horsemen, who was chasing after Rika. The raichu was running around screaming her head off. "Vile rat, who dared to spark! A missing head will be my mark!" Despite his words, he was having trouble catching Rika, "No matter this will end the same! You will fall by blade and flame!" he launched another fire ball, which hit Rika's tail, making her scream, and run faster, holding her tail and trying to blow out the fire on it.

Death had had enough, and grabbed on soldiers arm with his tentacles, and tossed it aside. He focused on the horsemen, and let loose a hyper beam. The horsemen took the hit in the shoulder, distracted with Rika, and the head flew off. "Come my body, heed my word! To fight alone is most absurd!" But Inferno wasn't going to let that happen. While Sky kept the soldier busy, he launched a fire blast at the head, striking it, but not destroying it.

Sky's razorwind cut through the pumpkin heads of all the soldiers who had just been momentarily lined up. The others, short of Rika who was still running around screaming, then gathered by Inferno. They all focused, before launching their most powerful attacks at the head, blasting it hard. The force sent the head flailing then into the river. As it vanished in the moving water, the body crumpled. "This end I've reached before..." they heard the faint echo of the horsemen's voice, "What new adventures lie in store?"

The group all panted, moving in to make sure the body was motionless. After awhile, they all nodded, smiling. Rika catiously approached, tapping the body with her foot, before leaping back. She smiled, turning her back to the Headless Horsemen, "Ha! He wasn't much!" she then felt a gauntletted hand rest atop her head. Rika screamed out, and ran away! Death just laughed, rolling on the ground as his tentacle released the arm of the motionless horsemen.

Ferra lightly kicked his side, "Death..." she said as she laughed, "That was cruel!"

The whole group was laughing out, loud and hard. Inferno managed to recover some, to say what had just sparked, "We're gonna be legends now! We defeated the Headless Horsemen of Sleepy Hollow!" The group all cheered, still laughing as Rika kept screaming.
