Untold Tales of Travelers by testa

Life in the Pack

A poochyena laughed, running around with his fellow poochyena. His name was Bane, and playing with him was his brother, Death, and his two friends, Spike and Thorn. The four dark types were wrestling around, Death having the upper hand as usual. Bane laughed, as he managed to dethrone Death for a bit, but was quickly pinned back down by his brother. "Alright! I give up!" Bane conceded in laughter.

"Weak little runt." All of the pups' ears went down, looking to the alpha, the mightyena father of Bane and Death. "Bane...you're pathetic."

Bane looked down, Spike and Thorn left, and Death only stood by, knowing saying anything contrary would only make things worse for Bane. "Come on Death...we've got training to do." Terror looked to his other son, "Get out of my sight you worthless whelp."

Death followed, as Bane crawled off. The little poochyena sighed, seeing his mother approaching, "Are you okay Bane?"

The pooch nodded, "Yeah...dad just came and picked up Death is all...he ruined all the fun."

His mother licked his head, "It's okay Bane...I'm sure you can have fun without Death." Bane smiled, encouraged by his mother's words. She smiled back, licking him again, making him chuckle. "Besides Bane...I know you'll move past the pack...and live a good happy life."

Bane smiled, nodding happily, "You're right mom. Me and Death and Spike and Thorn will go and do great things!"

The mightyena mother didn't let her pup see her face's reaction at his words, "Wanna get some food Bane?" The pup eagerly nodded, and followed his mother to get some berries for breakfast, spending a little time napping before heading back.

By the time Bane returned, Death had as well. "Hey Bane."

"Hey Death...how was training?"

Death sighed, "Same as always."

Bane shook his head, "Dad's a jerk."

Death nodded, "Yeah...he's pretty mean." The pup smiled, "Ready for a rematch?"

Bane growled, "You know it!" The two pups began tumbling around, Death getting the advantage once more.

*****

"Come on Bane...you need to be a little quicker!" Death smiled. They weren't playfully wrestling anymore; Death was training his brother to get stronger. "You've got decent power now, but you lack speed."

Bane smirked, "You're saying that now...but that'll change when I leave you in my dust...on the ground!" Bane charged, the grown poochyena appearing to match his fellow pooch brother. The two kept going, before a loud howl forced them to stop. Terror glared at the pups, "Death...come on...you're going on a hunt."

Bane looked away, but then looked back at his father, "Can I come too?"

Death nodded, "Yeah Dad...Bane's gotten real good."

Terror spat, "Weaklings don't belong on a hunt. You need to learn that you filthy little vermin. I'd have been able to live a happier life if you had just died young. Come on Death!" He turned and started heading off.

Death sighed, "Sorry Bane..."

The pup only shook his head, "It's cool...have fun Death." The pups walked away from one another. Bane's mother was going on the hunt too, so he had no one to comfort him. The pup sighed, shaking his head. "Dad's a big jerk...I wish he was gone." Bane curled up and waited for his mother and brother to return...unaware that he had just seen them for the last time.

*****

Bane shook against one of the females in the pack. In one swoop, his world had been ruined. His mother had been killed during the hunt, and Death had returned a mightyena, only he wasn't the same Death anymore. This Death was violent; Bane felt that he was being torn apart by Death's gaze alone. All Bane could do was shudder, as the female tried to comfort him, but no comfort would be enough for the pup, his home had been destroyed.

The pup sniffled, his tears falling as silently as they could. He was sure of one thing, his mother's death, and Death's change were all Terror's fault. His father was to blame; there wasn't anyone else who could have done these things. Bane whimpered, getting licked by the female who had taken him in.

And how did his father act when Bane learned...

"Stop crying you spineless whelp...she was a weak bitch...she got what she deserved."

Bane hated his father. He hated him with every fiber of his being.

*****

Bane growled, slamming and biting at a tree. Since Death's change, he had lost his trainer, and now he was on his own with getting stronger. But it was paying off, Bane could feel it. He kept going, his foster mother coming up, "come on Bane...dinner time."

"I'll be there soon." He went back to training. She sighed, shaking her head as she headed to eat her share. The pup didn't pay any mind, his focus solely on getting stronger, so he could evolve. "I promise mom...I'll leave this pack...and be great..." he snarled out, charging again, glowing white. The resulting impact broke the tree in two, leaves flying everywhere as it crashed down.

As the leaves settled, a mightyena stood among them, shaking them off. "I...I did it...I evolved." He smiled, "I'm strong enough to get out of this." He looked back, than sighed, "Sorry Spike...Thorn...Death..." he ran off quickly, not looking back. He had nothing to look back to, his mother was dead, and his brother was changed into something like his father, if not worse.

And his father...his father thought nothing of him. He had nothing in the pack, but he'd have something out in the world, he'd prove his father wrong. He wasn't useless and weak.

*****

Bane winced, falling flat on his side. "Did you think you could just leave!? You worthless little runt!" Terror snarled, snapping at his son's flank.

Bane's attempt at escaping his pack had failed miserably. The only thing he had accomplished was being captured by a group of humans who were doing bizarre things to themselves and pokemon. But that was a tale for another time.

"Filthy mutt!" Terror kept biting at Bane, trying his hardest to maim the mightyena. And all Bane could do was yelp in pain, since he couldn't fight his father off...not now anyway. Death was also there, and he had only gotten worse during the months Bane had been gone.

The pack had really suffered as a whole in truth. Death and Terror were destroying their power with their actions and disregard for anything else. Bane could see that from just being back for a few hours. "Wretched scum...you're lucky I didn't kill you as a pup...and this is how you thank me?" Terror spat on his maimed boy, then walked away. Death walked up, smirking, "Welcome back Bane." He turned and kicked dirt as his brother.

Bane glared, it was impossible to tell who was who with them now. Bane got up, joined by those in the pack who shared his sentiments about Terror and Death. "You okay Bane."

The mightyena nodded, "Yeah..."

"To bad you got caught...no matter what was going on than...you had to have been doing better than us." Bane recognized the mightyena talking as Spike. As usual Thorn was by Spike's side, smiling, "Good to see you again all the same man."

Bane smiled, "It's good to see you guys too." He sighed, "You're right...I was better off though." He shook his head.

Spike sighed, "Things are really heading south..."

"It's all that damn bastards fault..." he growled lightly, "One day...I'm going to kill Terror."

Thorn blinked, "You sure Bane...I mean...he is your father."

Bane spat, "He's no father." He snarled lightly, "A father is kind and takes care of you...he's not worth calling a pokemon..."

The mightyena around Bane all nodded, but all of them felt that his desire was going to remain only that. The concept of Terror and Death being beaten was outlandish. Nothing was going to break their evil hold on the pack.
Chapter End Notes:As I said...I know it's pretty lousy compared to other works...but I just wasn't feeling this story. But something in me knew I had to write it
