A full moon was over a moderate sized area in a forest, which was home to a moderately sized den. In the den was a family, and dear friends of them. The houndoom, Inferno, was nestled around his absol mate, Sky. She in turn was nestled around two pups. Barely a week old, the parent's couldn't have been prouder. Inferno's father and sister were also among the group in the den, smiling happily at their new status as grandpa and aunt respectively.

Aside from the pups' blood family, their extended family was also gathered. Rika the raichu, Blaze the genetically altered typhlosion, Tia the likewise tyranitar, Death and Bane the mightyena brothers, the former being genetically altered, and Ferra the floatzel had all been around to help. The whole group, after several adventures, had returned to Inferno and Rika's home for the birth of the pups, and nothing was going to deter the gang from enjoying the time they had to rest.

Almost nothing at least; for as the group slept, a dark figure slowly trotted into the place that was their home, its eyes set on members of the group. "So this is where those fools have come...and so here they'll pay the final sum!" With no other word, the figure galloped forward.

Rika yawned, groggily getting up and grumbling quietly. "Thirsty..." she got up and carefully trotted out of the den, towards the nearest water source. She stumbled a bit along the way, still half asleep. When she eventually got to it, she got down and started drinking till her thirst was gone. She let out another yawn, as she stood up.

Her ears perked when she heard the sound of a rapidash rustling on the other side of the little lake. She opened her eyes and took a good long look...her ears dropping and her spine getting a chill. It was indeed a rapidash, but it had blue flames for its mane. Upon the steeds back was something far more terrifying though, it was a warrior, garbed in black armor and wielding a black blade...and where his head was suppose to be...there was nothing. Rika stared in horror at the headless horseman. "The frightened rat I encounter first, and your fate is by far the worst!"

Just like the last meeting, his skull like helm of a head came swooping in, nestled upon his neck and was awash in green flames. The horse reared, and he began riding. Rika let out a scream, and bolted back for the den with a quick attack. The electric type easily out ran the fallen knight, and burst into the den, screaming still. The chaos of her entrance had everyone jumping and bumping into one another. Rika had taken cover under her male, leaving Bane blinking in confusion, "What's going on Rika?"

Everyone else mirrored the question, Death adding a curse along with it. Rika panted, "He's back! That headless guy is back!"

Obsidian, Inferno's father, blinked, "Headless guy?"

Inferno gulped, "The headless horseman?" Rika nodded, poking her head out from under Bane. The others stared at her, Bane making the mutual question asked, "Are you sure?"

Rika nodded, "Yes!"

Inferno sighed, "Dad...can you watch the pups...come on guys...let's check things out." The others nodded, and headed out to find the supposedly risen headless horseman. They went to the small lake, and saw from the hoof prints that Rika's tale probably wasn't as farfetched as they thought. Rika pointed, "See! I told you guys! He's back...he tried to get my head!" she had gone back under Bane, holding her paws over her head, shivering.

Inferno growled, "Damn it! I thought we dealt with him!...and he hasn't even been down for half a year." He looked about, making sure the specter wasn't silently watching. Death was doing the same, "I know...we did destroy him...didn't we?"

Ferra nodded, "I'm sure we did."

Bane sighed, "Rika...calm down...he's not here right now."

Rika shook her head, "But he'll come...I don't wanna lose my head!" she had her eyes closed, paws still trying to keep her head on her neck. Bane sighed, shaking his head...he did think it was kinda cute she was so scared, and a bit sad. The raichu was shivering in fright, obviously not over her last encounter with the horseman.

Blaze grumbled, "He can't be any different than last time...we'll beat him easily." They nodded, and began looking for the foe, keeping together. Soon enough, more evidence of the horseman's passage became present. More hoof marks, along with slashes that cut deep into solid rock, and small fires. The trail eventually led to an open area, with the headless horseman waiting on the other end of it. "Did you really think I had been undone? Your days are numbered, you cannot run!" his horse reared, and he charged forward.

The group got ready for him, but as he reached halfway through the clearing, he vanished in a swirling mass of darkness. Inferno blinked, "What the?" As they stared, a strange sound came from behind, and the horseman appeared from another swirling mass. "From twisting darkness I attack! And my target is your back!" he unleashed several fire balls, as he charged with the force of an extreme speed, knocking them about. He slowly turned in his gallop, looking toward them, "For my defeat you're all to blame, so now you shall taste my righteous flame!" He unleashed another barrage of fire balls.

Inferno met one fire ball with his burning shadow ball, growling, "He's learned a new trick." The others groaned, getting up and facing the horseman. He just laughed, charging them again and once more disappearing into the mass of darkness. They all listened carefully, than when the sound of his emergence rang, they quickly pinpointed the direct and got out of the way. Inferno, Bane and Death managing to launch attacks at the horseman, but he didn't get knocked off his horse. Ferra glared, "No you don't!" she let loose a water pulse, slamming the horseman in the back as he went through another dark whirl.

While coming out, the headless fiend hit the dirt, letting out a growl. "You may have knocked me off my horse, but my justice has yet to run its course." He got up and went for the group on foot, blade held up ready to strike. Inferno went forward to meet him head on, the blade coming down onto thin air and earth. The houndoom had leapt back than back forward with a spinning iron tail strike to the horseman's skull "helm." The horseman was knocked back, but unlike before, his helm remained on his shoulders. "Want to dislodge my head? Before than transpires you'll be dead!" he brought his sword down, Inferno escaping death, but he did receive a nick.

Sky was next into the fray, with Ferra along side. The floatzel smashed into the horseman with an aqua jet, his recovering stumble allowing the absol to use an ice beam on his "head." The horseman backed away more, but quickly forced himself forward to meet the females. A slash missed Sky, but left a cut on Ferra's arm. The floatzel let out a small cry of pain from it. That quickly caught the attention of her mate. The winged mightyena quickly rushed forward, stopping the Headless Horseman from attack again with a shadow ball, followed quickly by a tentacle to his face. The horseman was knocked off his feet and back, landing with a hard thud.

The fiend stood up, and let loose a whistle, his horse reappearing. Agilely leaping onto his mount's back, he rode off into another whirling dark portal. The group gathered together, waiting for him to appear again. The portal was in clear sight, and the horseman charged out, but something about him was odd. They didn't think about it much though, Inferno launching a hyper beam. When the attack struck, the horseman disappeared in a plume of smoke. Suddenly, the group was struck from behind, by the real horseman. Rika's tail was grabbed during his pass, and the raichu was dragged along, screaming her head off.

Bane snarled, "Let her go!" He rushed the horseman, unleashing a hyper beam. The attack forced Rika from his grasp, but didn't dismount him. The horseman went into another portal, vanishing. The group was forced to wait again, and once more a portal appeared, the group turning to face him. Inferno blinked, "Wait!" the horseman was different...his helm wasn't enflamed. "That's the fake! No head fire!" The faint sound of another portal caught everyone's attention, and they turned to unleash their attacks on the horseman. With a grunt, he was knocked from his mount, landing in the dirt.

Inferno and Bane quickly rushed him, each chomping into an arm. They were trying to keep him from attack...and make him an easier target for the others. Sky and Tia were quick to take the opening, using a slash and punch respectively; they sent the horseman flying back onto the ground again. He got up all the same, "Wretched mongrels that claw and bite, I shall destroy you all this very night!" he unleashed several fire balls, but Death and Blaze were able to stop the barrage cold with their unique abilities. The horseman glared, "You cannot win this just fight! You shall fall before my righteous might!" His remark was met by a fire blast and ice beam.

Another whistle and the horseman was again on his mount, taking off into a portal. A series of portals than opened, several spouting out phantom horsemen, but it also sent out horses mounted by the pumpkin headed warriors, which were solid. Every now and then the real horseman would appear, and would slash or blast one of the group. Utter chaos erupted, the group attempting to fight off the pumpkin riders, while also avoiding the horseman. Rika was terrified, but the fear was soon gone when she saw Bane blasted by a fire ball. The raichu ground her teeth, and started looking for the real horseman.

Her vigilance paid off, and using quick attack, than going into an iron tail, sent the horseman flying off of his mount, landing with a loud thud in the middle of the clearing. He rose again, as the portals stopped, "Loyal minions arise once more...put these fools on Death's door!" A mass of the pumpkin soldiers appeared, and immediately charged the group. The tide of soldiers was quickly engaged with the gang, Tia obviously having the easiest time thanks to her size and strength. The horseman laughed, "Go on, fight as long as your soul is aflame...your defeat will bring all the more pain!"

Rika sparked, "You son of a bitch..." she began to run straight into the mass of pumpkin soldiers. Just before impact, her body was engulfed in a volt tackle. The raichu tore a straight line through the mass of orange, reaching the horseman, and slamming right into his skull. A loud crack and a bright flash engulfed the area. The pumpkin warriors vanished, and the skull helm was sent flying. It landed on the ground, and then puffed into dust. "Defeated yet another time...a warriors end truly...sublime..." Rika panted, than smirked.

She turned to the others, "That's done." She kicked dirt on the body, the others gather around. Bane smiled, "Good work love." She smiled, winking at him, when the gauntleted hand rested on her head. "I'm not falling for that again Death."

"Uhh...Rika..." Death held up his tentacles.

Rika screamed out, "AHHH! DON'T TAKE MY HEAD!" she bolted from the scene, holding her head as she ran.

Ferra giggled, dropping the arm. Death laughed, "That was mean love."

She smiled, "What can I say...you're rubbing off on me Deathy poo." Everyone laughed, glad that the night was over. Rika's screaming woke up everyone else in the area, and Bane quickly went after her to calm her down, the others heading back to the den.

....
....
....

Amidst the dust a small speck of flame appeared. It was green, and it smoldered on, slowly growing as a shape began to form from the dust. "I know not the meaning of defeat...with enough time, again we'll meet." The Headless Horseman laughed.
