Story Notes:
I came up with the story one morning, and I've been frantically trying to construct it. This is my first story on AGNPH. I hope you enjoy it. I'll try to update as often as I can
Martyr
I found myself in front of the professor's office door. I became fixated on my confrontation with him. I looked over to mew, who had a concerned expression on her face.
"Yeshua... you don't need to do this..." she spoke.
I looked back to the mew with my amber eyes. I understood her concern. She didn't want to see anybody else suffer, and frankly, I didn't want to either. As much as I wanted to leave this laboratory and never return, I knew that part of me just couldn't make that decision.
I looked at her and held her two front paws. "I want to leave, too. I want to believe that I can just leave the professor and everything else behind... but I know I'll never be able to. I feel that our conflict is inevitable. This is going to happen whether I want it to or not... whether he wants it or not."
She looked warily to the side, but I cupped her cheek and kissed her myself. She looked back at me and smiled gently. I had calmed her down.
I proceeded to knock on the door of the professor's office. "Enter", was the man's reply. I went into the room, not sure if I was to ever exit it thereafter.
The professor was sitting at his desk with his signature worn-from-use textbook and a bandage across his right eye. He looked up at me and looked startled to see me, then he saw the mew by my side, and began to calm down slightly. "Yeshua... how you never cease to amaze me with your tenacity."
I was shocked to see this attitude from the professor. He didn't seem the least been fearful that I was still alive. In fact, he wasn't even angry. The professor looked almost exactly like I had remembered him from the first day. He was cool and calm, even with my apparent revival.
I shook my disbelief quickly. I wasn't going to spend this encounter in shocked silent. I rebounded immediately. "And your ambition is equally commendable, Professor Vandiros."
The professor smirked before reaching into his desk drawer. He pulled out a bottle of wine. He then stood up, making me tense immediately. I watch his movements carefully as he walked towards the cabinet, opened the cabinet door, and pulled out... two glasses? The professor sat down at his desk and set the two glasses on the desk. He opened the bottle of wine and began to pour it into one glass. He looked up at me, smiling. "Care for a drink, Yeshua."
I was utterly furious at this point. "What the hell do you think you're doing!?" I walked over to the desk and knocked the bottle of wine clear off of the table. The wine bottle shattered across one of the walls, creating a blizzard of crystallized dust and red rain to spread across the room. "You nearly kill me one moment, and you want to befriend me the next! What the hell is wrong will you!?"
The professor looked up at me curiously. "Why did you come here, Yeshua? You could have easily left this place with your little girlfriend here and lived your life anew. Why would you give that up?"
I looked at the professor in disbelief, as if the answer was just too obvious to miss. "Because there was nothing wrong with the life I was having moments before you killed me. You destroyed that life simply because it was a threat to your existence... I can't forgive you for that!"
"You blame me for all of this? It's your own damn fault for being so weak."
I snarled. "My fault?"
"I cast you into my past, and instead of living through it like I did, you died. Do you honestly expect pity from me, Yeshua? You're my former self... the self I tried desperately to rid myself of."
I looked at him, confused. "Your former self?"
He smiled. "I cast away my entire past. Instead of dissolving into the corridors of time, you managed to merge with each and every piece of my past. You are my past desperately clinging to life. I don't care about your life or death anymore."
"Is that right", I challenged.
The professor moved his hand up to the bandage around his eye. He slowly began to unravel the bandages. When he was finished, he threw the bandages to the floor. He turned and looked at me, triumph in both of his eyes.
I gasped. His right eye had lost any trace of the amber that it had held a week ago. "What happened?"
He smiled at me. "I regained my humanity, Yeshua. When I discarded my past, I obtained everything."
"Not everything", I replied.
He looked at me incredulously. "Really, now? I suppose you feel that you could do better?"
I nodded. "In case you haven't noticed, I survived with the pokerus virus in me. I now have the chance to make a significant difference in the world... with YOUR past, Vandiros."
The professor's smile faded from his face. His face turned into a scowl. "What do you want, Yeshua? Are you wanting me to kill you!?"
I glared back at the professor. "No. I'm wanting you to care about all of existence... not just your own!"
He looked at me smugly. "Then you know you're wasting your time?"
"I choose to think of my time as an investment. What are you doing with yours?"
The professor scowled. "You'll never know or appreciate that!"
"I guess not!", I responded.
"Are you going to fight your own fight this time? Or are you going to have pokemon fight it for you?"
"Don't worry, professor. I'm your opponent!", I promised.
The professor looked around his office. "So, where do you wish to fight me, Yeshua? I can't entertain you in an office of this size."
I looked at the professor and smiled. "Where do you think?"

I found myself staring at the professor as he stood on the other side of the garden. He held his seviper whip firmly in his right hand. His facial expression was much less menacing that it had been before, so he wouldn't be scoring any points in the intimidation department.
I looked at him with fierce, amber eyes. This man was out of lives... out of tricks. He stood before me with nothing more than his humanity and whip to protect him. It pained me to say that he never looked happier.
Several of the pokemon in the garden had gathered together to watch the fight. I had spoken to them and told them to not harm the professor in any way. Mew was floating amongst them, looking particularly anxious.
"Yeshua", a familiar voice called out. I turned around and saw Wally and Kappa. They were carrying a large, green object that resembled a scythe of some sort. I looked at the object strangely.
"It's from a scyther!", Wally eagerly answered my silent question. "We want you to have it, Mister Yeshua!"
I looked at the weapon. It looked really powerful. I picked up the scythe that belonged to the scyther. As soon as I did, I began to feel a little strange. I quickly brushed the feeling aside as I prepared myself to battle the professor.
(+)
The professor stood there, patiently awaiting whatever I had in store for him. I dashed toward him quickly, sprinting at a pace that I couldn't believe I could achieve. The professor seemed to be startled at my agility, but didn't react seriously to it. I arrived almost instantaneously at the professor's location and swung the scythe at him quickly. He had no time to dodge as I slashed him diagonally across his chest leaving his mouth open in shock. His lab coat had been torn through completely, exposing his chest and a gaping wound that was dripping blood. For some reason, I was excited to see all of this blood.
"I will not let the past outshine my future!", the professor screamed. "YESHUA!!!"
I was distracted significantly by the blood and failed to notice the professor binding my legs with his whip. He tugged fiercely and I fell to the ground hard. He straddled me and began to punch my face repeatedly.
"Look at me (punch) and tell me (punch) that you still think (punch) you feel significant now!! (punch)"
I suddenly felt myself attack the professor. I saw my arm swing and attack him once... twice... three times before he fell to the ground and clutched his wounds.
"Fury cutter?", he inquired, groaning.
I looked at the scyther's scythe in confusion. What was I doing?
"Yeshua!", a voice called me. "I turned around to see that it was mew who was calling me. When she saw that she had my attention, she continued. "It's from the pokerus! Your body is reacting the pokemon's object and responding as if you are that pokemon. You're basically a scyther now!"
I was a scyther? No wonder I dashed at the professor so quickly! Things were starting to look interesting.
"You shouldn't look too happy, Yeshua", the professor spoke. "After all, we all know what drives a scyther crazy, don't we."
I panicked as I turned to look at him. In his hand were several large payapa berries from the trees in the garden. I watched as he threw them in the air and slashed them open in the air. My vision exploded into a furious red. Red payapa berry juice stained the ground of the garden, causing me to attack the ground furiously.
I felt a painful smack across the top of my head. The professor had hit me incredibly hard across the head with his whip, causing me to hit the ground hard. I got up and immediately began to attack the ground again. The professor whipped me again, this time drawing blood from my skull.
"Yeshua!", mew screamed, "Drop the scythe! Your body won't react to it once it's away from you!"
I dropped the scythe just as another whip lashing hit the top of my head, sending my body reeling backwards and onto the tall grass. My head was throbbing, making it hard to think. Likewise, the professor had to deal with the pain from the horrific slashes I had inflicted.
As I struggled to climb to my feet, my left hand bumped into something. I looked at what my hand had bumped into and my eyes widened. It was the payapa berry that the professor had plucked from my backpack a week ago... the payapa berry that mew had given to me as a gift. I looked at it intensely. Would the pokerus pick up on the mew that was associated with this fruit?
I stood up with the payapa berry in my hand, facing the professor. He looked at the payapa berry in recognition.
"That's..."
"Mew", I interrupted the professor, staring now at her. She looked back at me, wondering. "Thank you for this. You're my last hope in this fight."
I brought the payapa berry to my lips and took a bite of the fruit. The taste was almost heavenly to me. I could feel mew's energy seeping into my body, but there was only a slight amount of that energy. I knew the limit of the power. I could only use one move or ability before that power would leave me.
The professor seemed to pick up on this. "Not enough energy to your liking, Yeshua? That's too bad."
The professor had his whip at the ready. "This is your last move, Yeshua. You have nothing but psychic attacks or recover to use. Whichever decision you make, I will strike you down in the end."
Everything seemed to move in slow motion. I looked around at the different pokemon around me and looked at their faces. They were all anxiously awaiting me to make my decision. I tried to think about what abilities that mew had. The professor shook his head at me.
"Pity. The one time you actually had a chance to decide something for yourself and you end up doing nothing!"
My eyes glowed pure gold. I stood up with an expression that was absolutely unreadable. I looked over at the professor. "You're going to lose..."
The professor looked at me and chuckled to himself. "There is no way that you can win!"
I shook my head. "I didn't say that I was going to win."
The professor's smile left his face as he pondered my words.
I looked over to some of the pokemon in the garden. I looked over at some pokemon to my right. I spoke. "Venomoth. Poison Powder."
The professor looked at me in shock and anger. "You cowardly bastard!!!"
The venomoth, however, understood my intention and flew over my head. The professor watched as the venomoth unleashed a poisonpowder on me, causing me to fall to the ground and groan with pain.
The professor was confused. "What the hell are you doing!?"
"Charmander. Flamethrower." A charmander in the garden used a flamethrower attack on me, causing me to scream in pain. Whether the attack subsided, I was covered in burns.
"Yeshua!!", the mew screamed. "STOP IT!"
"Pikachu...thunder... wave..." A Pikachu in the garden unleashed a thunder wave on me, leaving me paralyzed.
The professor looked at me in confusion. "You're insane!"
I looked directly at the professor, smiling through my weak state. "You said... that the past no longer has any influence on who you are. That the past doesn't affect you."
He looked at me, silent.
"But you're wrong... When the past self is hurt, the future self will suffer. Always...Now is no exception."
He looked at me, startled. "No!"
"SYNCHRONIZE!", I shouted. The professor watched helplessly as a beam of light shot out of my body and connected with him. He screamed and fell to the ground in agony.
He looked at me murderously. "How could you... do this to me!? Why do I... need to... suffer from my past ... again!?.... Ye..shu...a..." The professor stopped breathing as the status effects completely overpowered him. The professor's body fell to the ground, dislodging a locket from one of his pockets.
I looked at the professor's body and realized that I, too, would look like that soon. As I looked at the professor, I noticed a locket on the ground next to him.
"What... is this", I asked aloud. I picked the locket up off of the ground, and put it in front of me. I opened the locket and looked at what was inside. I gasped horribly.
"Yeshua!", the mew screamed, taking the gasp as a sign that I was going to die at any moment. "Grab my hand! You can use my powers and cast Recover on yourself until we get to a hospital."
I ignored her, staring at the locket that was in my hand. Tears were beginning to form in my eyes.
She grabbed my hand. "Yeshua! Cast recover on yourself! Please!!", mew pleaded. "You have to survive!"
"Why did you do it?", I asked her, ignoring her request.
She looked at me, confused. "Why did I do what?"
"Why did you abandon him!?", I yelled, crying.
I threw the locket on the ground and a small photo emerged from it. In the photo was a boy of around eight years old with black hair and a big smile. On the boy's left shoulder was a pink mew looking down at him and smiling.
The mew looked surprised to see that photograph. She shook her head and focused back on Yeshua. "I had my reasons for doing what I did. I sensed that there was a child that was born that would one day be able to bridge the gap between humans and pokemon. I set out in search of that child. And I found you, Yeshua! The love of my life"
"You destroyed him!", I screamed.
Mew looked at me, shaking her head. "Don't do this, Yeshua! Use recover! We can bring pokemon and humans closer together than ever before! Please... I love you"
I pushed her hand away from mine. "Look at that corpse over there, mew! Look at him!! Look at all that he lived his life believing..."
I looked at her desperate face, shaking my head. "The gap between humans and pokemon has never been greater."
I groaned as the poison began to destroy my body. "My existence... my truth... this was it." My breathing then stopped. The mew looked at me in disbelief.
"Yeshua? YESHUA!!!?"
I disappeared from this world knowing exactly who I was.Chapter End Notes:The end is very bleak, I know. Some of you may be angry that it is. However, this was the ending I came up with when I formulated this story over a week ago.
