Jack settled down in his sleeping bag, listening to the steady beat of the rain outside his tent. The second recruit, Bobby from what he remembered, had arrived at the Bravo Team camp about an hour and a half ago. The kid and the Blaziken seemed capable enough as team members regardless of getting themselves hopelessly lost in the woods. After a few minutes or so of staring through the tent fabric at the forms sitting under the pavilion, Jack fell asleep just as he felt a disturbance in the aura.
---
Screaming... Where was it coming from? ...Where am I? Jack opened his crimson eyes, feeling a hot wind rustling his fur. Disoriented, he tried to make sense of where he was; there was fire about thirty feet to his right, and he was lying with his head sideways in the middle of the road. What the hell? Picking himself off the ground, Jack further examined his surroundings. He was in front of the Eterna City Global Trade Station, crumbling and lit ablaze; the rubble was smeared with crimson gore. Bodies were strewn across the streets, half eaten and rotting, filling the air with a sickly sweet smell. Oh my God...
---
Frantic, Jack opened his eyes to see Matt standing over him. He had a worried expression on his face.
"You alright, bud? You're sweating like crazy."
Nodding his head yes, Jack motioned his paw towards the tent's open entrance flap and then towards his nose.
"That smell? It's breakfast time", Matt said. "You sure you're alright? You don't look so good."
Waving his paw in front of his face to signal that he was ok, Jack slipped out of his sleeping bag and walked past Matt, exiting the tent. I could use some food about now...
Three months later...
Doctor Nethaniel Jackson observed the sales results for his new EvolutionX supplement; much to his joy, the new product had been a smash-hit at the markets, eleven thousand seven hundred units had been sold in the first three days of release. That meant the total sum of the earnings was $114,660,000, and $57,330,000 now belonged to him. There had been a small mishap though; about one-eighth of the Pokemon that were given the product had developed a strange flu-like sickness after they evolved, and angry trainers were looking to him for an explanation. At this time, he was trying to figure out how the product had generated these side effects, even though it was manufactured specifically not to give the consumer any ailments. How strange...

"Jane!?" Zach called. The Feraligatr was unusually quiet for the last few hours. Because she had the flu since she took EvolutionX, Jane had been coughing and sputtering for the past two days. Worried, he went upstairs to check on her.
"Come on, Jane. You've got to take your medicine!" Zach yelled. No reply.
Opening her door, he gasped. Blood soaked the bed where she was laying and the wallpaper was torn apart. A low growling emanated from the hallway behind him.
Gathering his composure, Zach shoved his paralyzing fear into the back of his mind and turned around. It was Jane. But not the same Jane he had known. The Feraligatr appeared to be skinned alive, eyes completely white. She breathed in ragged gasps and twitched uncontrollably.
"Oh my..." Zach didn't get to finish the sentence.
The Pokemon swung a massive blue paw that impacted with the trainer's skull, claws tearing his head off. Fountains of blood erupted from the trainer's decapitated body, covering the walls behind it in scarlet. The body began convulsing as it fell to the floor. Growling satisfyingly, the Pokemon descended to the body and began to eat...

Rose gazed at the cloudless sky as she walked down the street with her claws full of grocery bags. She was wearing her class-B PRO outfit- a white tanktop with the standard khaki shorts; a nightstick and a large knife were attached to her belt. Almost home... she though happily as she strolled through the Eterna City downtown. As she neared her apartment building, a strange figure passed her in a black longcoat; it was twitching uncontrollably.
Turning around, her paws still full, she called out to it. "Sir, are you ok?"
The figure turned to face her, and then seemed to melt away into the crowd.
If my hands weren't so damn full I could have followed him. Rose thought to herself. "Oh, well." The more she thought about it, the more she could have sworn that the figure had a pair of pure-white eyes. Shaking the unpleasant thought, Rose opened the door to the apartment lobby and proceeded to her home.
---
After cooking dinner, Rose placed her food on the dining room table and turned on the television. Using the remote control, she scrolled through the channels until she arrived at the Sinnoh News Net channel. Seating herself, Rose listened to numerous newscasts about wild Pokemon swarms (the poor savages) and Battle Frontier win streaks when the news abruptly cut out. After a few seconds, a TV anchorman appeared on the screen.
"Hello, this is Francis McCreary for SNN bringing you a special Emergency Report. According to some sources, many rouge Pokemon have entered Eterna City, viciously attacking anyone in sight and in extreme cases actually eating their prey whether it be human or Pokemon."
The image of the reporter changed to a clip of a large twitching Pokemon crouched over something with a large CENSORED bar over it. The attacker seemed to be completely devoid of skin, muscles rippling and gleaming in the sunlight.
"What the fuck?" Rose said out loud as the image returned to the anchorman.
"Meanwhile, Professor Rowan is urging all people and their families to stay in their homes as the attackers are extremely aggressive. All attackers are reportedly pink in skin color and twitching violently. If any Pokemon you know displays flu-like symptoms or twitching, please contact an emergency technician immediately. This is Francis M-..."
Shutting off the TV, Rose dialed Rocher's phone number as quickly as her paws could manage.
"Rocher here." The PRO Bravo team leader answered.
"Captain, this is Rose. We have a problem. A big problem."
---
At Bobby's house the phone began to ring.
"Hey, Flara can you get that? I'm in the middle of an online game right now." Bobby called across the room.
"Now, huh?" Hopping out of the shower, Flara exited the bathroom and ran across the family room, answering the phone on the fifth ring. "Hello?"
"Flara, is that you?" It was Rocher's voice. "Good. We need you and Bob to get to HQ within the next ten minutes. There's an emergency."
"An emergency?" Flara asked worriedly.
"Just get over here ASAP." With that, Rocher hung up the phone.
Shutting off the Xbox, Bob looked over and asked, "What was that abou- ...Woah."
"Rocher says there's an emergency. He says we need to get to HQ ASAP." Flara replied, covering her bare chest with her arm.
Shaking himself from his dazed state, Bobby replied, "Yeah, ok. And... um... sorry... about... that."
Removing her arm she said, "It's fine."
Bobby saw her smiling as she left the room. "Wow." He said under his breath. Going to his room, he changed into his PRO uniform and proceeded to wait for Flara at the front door.
---
In his office, Nathan was panicking. If he was correct, those who had recently evolved and developed the flu-like ailments were the ones that had found their way to the streets. But how? Frantically running simulations on his computer with nothing giving a clue as to how EvolutionX could have caused aggressive behavior, Nethanial racked his brain. After five simulations for second evolution Pokemon, he began on the third evolution simulations. In this case, a Venosaur.
Much to the horror of Jackson, the addition of EvolutionX slowly began to shut down bodily functions beginning with the immune system. Once that happened something extremely strange and unexplainable began to take place. The simulated Venosaur's DNA strands began to change, the individual strands rearranging themselves while the body's physical structure began to contort. The simulation abruptly stopped, unable to continue because of the vast amount of computing power required. Horrified, Nathaniel began three more simulations of third evolution Pokemon with the same results.
"Oh, fuck." His voice was scarcely a whisper.
---
At eight PM, Bobby and Flara arrived at the PRO HQ. Looking around, Bob took note that practically nobody was outside, a complete rarity seeing how the city's population exceeded half a million. All that could be seen on the roads were ominous shadows projected by the dim streetlights.
In a gentle voice Flara asked, "Hey, are you ok?"
Facing her, Bob replied, "...Yeah, I'm fine. It's just a bit creepy out here. Usually this is one of the busiest parts in town and no one's around now. Don't you there's something it's a bit... wrong?"
"Well, there was that news report about those aggressive Pokemon out here. I doubt anyone wants to get hurt by going outside." She said.
"In that case we better get inside quick" Bobby remarked in a somewhat nervous voice.
Placing her three-taloned hand on his shoulder Flara laughed, "Don't worry it'll be fine! We're probably just going to do some checking around and this whole thing will pass by without a problem."
With that, the pair went inside.
---
Nearly all the members had already gathered in the Bravo Team meeting room. Now if only Bob and Flara arrived, the team could get their mission intel from the PRO Home Office stationed in Jubilife.
Sitting silently, Matt lifted his head and asked, "So what's this all about, Captain? News reports say there are some sort of crazed drugged-up cannibals stalking around outside. Is that what we're actually here for? Sounds like bullshit to me."
Replying, Rocher said, "I'm not too sure of it myself, but who knows? I can't request a mission update until we're ready to go with all team members present. Those two are making a habit of being late."
Jack the Lucario nodded in silent agreement.
"I hear footsteps down the hall. Maybe it's them." Rose commented.
Not ten seconds after her remark, Bob and Flara entered the meeting room, their uniforms appearing hastily thrown on. Looking around and observing that the rest of the team had already gathered Bobby sighed, "Fashionably late as always... Sorry Captain."
"Well at least you two are here. I'm calling in now for the mission statistics." Rocher replied sounding slightly irritated. Taking out a satellite phone, Rocher dialed in the Home Base. Silently listening to the person on the other end of the phone for in excess of three minutes he spoke. "Consider it done."
Hanging up the phone, he placed it on a desk. "There's been about two-hundred reported disappearances of Pokemon in the city. Home Base is sending us to check out the Eterna Forest to check out if there's anything suspicious there."
Getting up, Rocher walked over to a large metal locker and began turning the dial. "We're instructed to bring weapons with us. Intel says we are authorized to shoot if anything- whether it be human or Pokemon if the subject does not respond or comply. So if you find anyone who does not directly answer you, shoot. HQ says that these things won't respond to speech and are extremely aggressive and dangerous."
Having said that, Rocher opened the locker and pulled out four black cases. "Two months back I got us a special order of Custom Glock 17s, but only for those who can actually handle a gun." He dispensed three of the boxes to Matt, Bobby, and Flara. He set the last box on his own desk.
Returning to the locker, Rocher continued, "And for you Rose, I ordered two combat swords." Removing the sheathed swords from the locker, he handed them to the rather pleased-looking Zangoose. The hilts were wrapped with black leather and the front and back sides were embossed with a circular PRO emblem; unsheathing them, Rose saw the gleaming single-sided blades were two feet long with wicked-looking serrations descending a foot down each of the swords.
"Now that is some sexy stuff, Chief!" Rose murred happily.
"Just don't go homicidal on us ok?" Rocher laughed. He then turned to the silent Lucario. "And sorry, Jack. The catalogue didn't have anything that you could hold or use effectively. I trust you can use Aura Sphere if you get into trouble?"
Jack nodded, a smile crossing his face. If there was one single attack he could use effectively, it was definitely Aura Sphere.
Intrigued, Bob opened the gun case Rocher had given him. Inside was a sleek matte black G-17 with "PRO Bravo Team" etched into the slide; on the opposite side, the words "High-Performance Model" were engraved into the steel. Like Rose's swords, the gun also had the same circular PRO emblem embedded in the rubberized handle. Also included in the box were four fully loaded clips that contained seventeen rounds each of nine-millimeter hollow points.
"Geez, Captain, I never knew that the PRO could afford stuff with this heavy firepower." Bobby remarked after fully examining the contents of the case.
"Believe it or not son, this stuff is standard issue." Rocher answered. "Matt, Flara, and Bobby- bring all the stuff contained in those gun cases you got. I have a bad feeling we're going to run into some major trouble. "
Taking a final item from the locker- a small bag containing six LED flashlights, Rocher walked to the front of the meeting room and said, "Now let's get going- we've got an all-nighter to pull in the forest."Chapter End Notes:So?
