Episode 14 - Nothing Ever Goes As Planned

I was finally free of that demon, Lucifer, but even though I have escaped his sights, his face still haunts my mind, what evil lied within him caused chills to go down my spine for I never knew how evil could live inside of a Pokemon and grow until it has become a manifestation.

And then there comes Gaia, who's evil and diabolical mind suited her that name. I knew just by that experience I had with her that she was angry with the world for whatever reason, yet the only thing that did not make sense to me is how she managed to achieve that odd ability. How is it that an Absol gained a tentacle defensive and offensive ability?

Carrying Sydney through Route 115 I noticed my strength deteriorating slowly and without warning my legs gave out causing me to hit the floor and let go of Sydney, her body rolling across the dirt like a rag doll.

My attempts in rising back up have failed after that incident for all of my strength had just disappeared. And then, the answer suddenly came to me, the Anriu ability was activated for too long, my life force was beginning a self-destruct sequence that was caused by the long activation. With my last moment of consciousness, I tried to de-activate this ability, but luck was not on my side on this one for I did not even have enough energy to cancel it out.

"I can't quit now... I have to keep going..." was the last thought that coursed through my mind before losing consciousness.

I couldn't believe what I was viewing afterwards for now I was in a misty room, dark and dreary. The Anriu insignia marked all 4 walls, stating that this was going to be a ritual or ceremony.

Witnessing myself positioned on a black table, I saw Lucifer and two other Pokemon wearing robes that completely blocked out their identities, they were ones who stand on 2 paws and wield items humans can wield, much like a Zangoose.

I considered them to have arms and legs instead of front legs and back legs for what would be the point of that if they stood up straight. These guys could have been Umbreons for all I knew, meant to scout the world on all 4 of their legs, but ever since I have figured out about the Anriu, nothing really made sense.

"Let the initiation begin..." Lucifer proclaimed, raising both of his arms and extending his claws out towards the sky as an audience in the background chanted, "Anriu... Anriu... Anriu..."

The two robed Pokemon knelt before me, one to my left and one to my right while Lucifer knelt behind me. Doing this I noticed a glowing purple ring under me and a dark, shadowy figure walking towards me. I tried to move but it was no use for something was constricting me, I tried to identify the cause of this and what I found out shocked me.

Gaia was in the background and by that I knew that her tentacles were the culprits of this accusation. I looked up at the figure walking towards me with hopelessness in my eyes. I shut them when the Pokemon un-hooded him or herself. Afterwards, there was a moment of silence, when I opened them back up I was devastated to see Lord Anriu standing before me. She was just as the statue portrayed her, an Anthro-like Serpent with the features of a Seviper, her scales colored with black and red just as all of the Anriu Drones and Archons in the room.

"You may have betrayed us by snatching away our Archon: Sydney Kuhn, but by nature your Zangoose clan belongs to the Anriu, the Kuhn family belongs to the Anriu... and you cannot fight it, you WILL become one of us one day and I will be waiting..." she silently whispered into my ears as she faded away with everyone and everything with her.

I suddenly found myself falling through a dark abyss to nowhere with no ending in sight, falling... falling... falling... until I heard a familiar voice pierce through it.

"... Jherek... please wake up... please..." it was a feminine voice, much like Litira's, but it didn't seem that was possible. But even so, I had to figure out who it was. I opened my eyes to see it really was Litira, her head buried against the fur from above my stomach.

With her on me like that it was becoming difficult to breathe, I gasped loudly so get her off and so she did. "Jherek?!" she squealed with hope that I was okay. I got up and stared at her, finally giving her a smile, "Why hey there Ms." I said, noticing I still had my Anriu robe on from earlier on.

I saw a couple of tears fall out from her eyes, she smiled widely and tried to hold back her incoming tears, "Jherek, you're okay!" she screamed, losing it and lunging on top of me, squeezing me tightly, "Okay... okay, I'm alright!" I laughed, happy to see Litira's smiling face once again.

It was still night so I was glad to see that I wasn't out for too long.

"So... I see he's awake..." I heard Kuimon's voice from the background, he stepped inside with Sparks at his left apparently still balancing himself on his hind legs just as before, "Hey buddy!" Sparks greeted me pleasantly. I was happy to see everyone, all in all, but where was the rest, Emma, Apple, and Timmy?

Knowing very well what I was going to ask next, Kuimon stepped in to tell me the truth, "Sorry Jherek, Emma, Apple, and Timmy were captured when we attempted an escape from the HQ..."

This news was extremely shocking for it was hard to imagine that sort of thing to happen to any of these guys. I just hope those three were alright, even Emma because she had a good heart, either way she deserves to live.

I remained silent, bowing my head down in respect to them, "I hope they are alright..." I whispered.

"Ah-hah, don't worry my friend, the PEF would not kill them if they are able to take them into custody... but we still cannot let those bastards keep Emma, Apple, and Timmy..." a human stepped inside, he was in a black lab coat with large oval-like glasses and a bald head, it seemed he was around 50 or 60 years old.

"Oh Jherek... meet Dr. Kenshon" Sparks introduced the human.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Jherek, I have heard a lot about you, how you and Lucifer infiltrated Rustboro city to retrieve Sydney..." Dr. Kenshon said as he re-adjusted his glasses to return back to its normal position.

"I can explain that, I was..."

"No, no, it is quite alright, Kuimon took the liberty of removing your growing Third Eye before it was able to complete its infection" Dr. Kenshon pointed out, I looked back at Kuimon who was leaning against the wall and smiling at me, "T'was no problem... I'd do anything for a friend in need, especially when it comes to the Anriu... I'm just glad you weren't high leveled or we probably would have had a problem there" he responded.

The Third Eye was removed, the evil manifestation was taken out of my body. This was a triumph in my case, it was a mystery on what could have happened if I let the eye grow and control my way of thinking. I brought my paw up to my forehead and rubbed around, searching for any marks or bumps, "Completely gone..." Sparks said, pretty much telling me that there are no scars, no marks, no nothing.

"Now... we must operate on your sister, Sydney" Kuimon quickly suggested, quickly walking on his two hind legs into the room next to mine, I got up to follow and everyone else copied.

The room resembled one of a hospital, large window right behind the bed which sat in the middle of the room, two nightstands to the left and right of the bed and a small bookshelf near the door, the moonlight shone on Sydney through the window as if she was dead.

Sydney's fur was still black and red, did this mean she was capable of being in this state all of the time?

"Okay... stand back guys I don't know how long this Third Eye has grown on this young female..." Kuimon ordered, charging up an unusual ability that caused his right paw to glow red, its essence vanishing into the air and recharging itself in his paws.

"So..." Litira started as Kuimon continued charging up, "Who's this?"

I could sense a bit of jealousy in her voice.

"Oh... this is my sister" I quickly responded.

Litira let out a long sigh of relief for I could tell she thought that Sydney was my mate or something peculiar like that.

Slowly and quickly, Kuimon's paw approached my sister's closed Third Eye, but as he drew near the eye opened up and stared at him, "Shit, everyone get down!" Kuimon yelled, but his command was too late for whatever he warned us about has already occurred.

The ground looked wavy like an ocean as I, and everyone else in the room, began to levitate straight up a few inches.

"Oh my...!" Dr. Kenshon let out, Litira screamed as if she was trying to get someone's attention, but I didn't believe anyone else was here besides us 6.

A reverberating hiss silenced everyone as Sydney lifted herself up off the bed she resided on, finally opening her eyes I saw that her pupils were a bit different from Lucifer's, they resembled two overturned triangles which formed the Star of David type of pattern.

She stared at all of us, therefore pulling us towards her like we were puppets, and with an evil and possessed voice she slowly proclaimed, "I... I... need... essence..."

Upon saying this I noticed she was slowly pulling Litira towards her, but there wasn't a thing I could do but watch. "Stop, please stop!!" Litira pleaded, shutting her eyes tightly and looking away from Sydney who's eyes were now glowing bright red, fur turning dark and red once again.

"Sydney, stop it now!" I yelled, "It's me, Jherek!"

When she heard my voice, Sydney suddenly stopped drawing Litira in, "Jherek... so we finally are reunited... my brother" she said, no emotion on her face just like Lucifer.

"But... you have the clothes of the Anriu... why are you not Anriu like everyone else in our clan?" she asked referring to the robe Lucifer gave me before our mission.

"Because the Anriu cult is evil, they are only interested in pain and suffering and it is wrong, do you hear me Sydney, it is wrong!" I yelled in an attempt to convert Sydney to return to her former self.

Sydney's Third Eye slowly closed as she freed us from her telekinetic hold. "Now...!" Dr. Kenshon yelled to Kuimon signaling him to rip out Sydney's Third Eye and so he did. Kuimon lunged towards her with the great speed he had from before and attempted to take out the eyeball, but he still wasn't quick enough, her eye opened once again and repelled everyone to the wall.

"Damn it!!" Sparks yelled, attempting to charge up his thunderbolt, "Let's give her a bit of a shock, shall we?"

"No, Sparks! If you shock her at this state she will become even more powerful!" Kuimon yelled.

"Oh shit... thanks for the heads up there Kuimon"

"You... my one and only brother attempted to trick me? I am heartbroken..." Sydney unemotionally said, pulling me towards her with great ease.

"Jherek!" everyone yelled at once.

"You have more of a life source than these pathetic creatures... since you are my brother I will let you die first..." she said.

"Gee... thanks..." I thought, still trying to break free, but it was no use, this telekinesis had too much pressure going for it.

"No fucking way, sorry Jherek but rash actions have to be taken right now!" Kuimon yelled as his round pupils turned back to that triangle shape, the same as Lucifer's.

A bright red beam shot out from his eyes and burned Sydney's Third Eye, it was the sound of a flamethrower igniting a tree.

She began to scream like a demon, an unnatural screech as her Third Eye disintegrated and disappeared from her forehead, the residue eventually disappearing as well.

I looked away after that moment, unaware if Sydney was going to live or die since Kuimon burned off her Third Eye so violently, I didn't know if there were any hidden consequences to that type of removal procedure.

We all finally hit the floor again. In joy, Sparks bowed down to the floor and began to kiss it, "Oh thank goodness..." he whimpered, "I thought I was going to be levitating like that for a lo-o-o-o-o-ong time!"

"Thank God that worked..." Dr. Kenshon whispered, panting as if he finished running a 3 mile run.

"Is she... going to be alright?" I finally decided to ask for I just had to know the truth, Kuimon's face gave me hope, he was happy and relieved, "Yup... she's going to be alright, let's just let her rest for a few hours... since her Third Eye has been destroyed, it would take another infection from Lucifer or Anriu to bring it back so we don't have to worry about that ever again"

I had to say, for a 15 year old, Kuimon sure did know a lot about the Anriu, it was pretty interesting how he gathered all of that information and just left them like that.

I placed Sydney back in a normal sleeping position on her back and covered her body with the white blanket which she threw off when she attacked us, "Don't ever scare me like that again..." I whispered, staring at her peaceful-looking face as her black and red fur began to turn back to white and dark orange.

Later on I realized how special the equipment was stored in this building, all of these rifles and mechanisms that have yet to be comprehended in my tiny mind. Dr. Kenshon lifted up an under-average sized sniper rifle with two straps around the bottom and a string that was attached to a switch handing down from the scope and said, "This is the AER-40 Sniper Rifle, much less powerful than a full-fledged human rifle, but this is built for Pokemon without opposable thumbs... such as yourself" he explained, holding the AER-40 near his chest.

"It is capable of firing bullets in Single, Burst Fire, and Automatic... but Sparks, Litira, and Kuimon did not desire to handle this rifle, so I wished to ask you, Jherek"

I did not know what to say at first, a rifle made for Pokemon was like a rock being smothered in sauce and being called a meatball, but I decided to try it out anyway so I accepted Dr. Kenshon's offer and equipped the rifle, strapping it to my arm as he instructed and slipping my right claw through the two string holes which dangled down the scope.

"Excellent... I will show you how to use this rifle later on Jherek, but time is of the essence" Dr. Kenshon said with a look of fear in his eyes, "What are you talking about, what is the hurry?" I asked, sitting down on the cold, metallic floor and tinkering with my new rifle.

"PEF forces found one of our major checkpoints in Route 115, we need to get there as quickly as possible, but when we found you guys we had to delay our advancement. So... we have until tomorrow morning to reinforce them..." Kuimon explained before Dr. Kenshon could. This news caused me to jump back up on my feet, almost falling over from the new weight of the gun on my right arm and almost tripping on my robe.

"I see..."

"Doc, Doc!!" a young man came bursting through the entrance with a grim look on his face, "We got problems, a PEF CE carrier is coming our way, and it looks like it is going to drop off some CEs!"

"Always something... Taylor, move up to the sniper tower and see if you can take out the Dropship's pilot!" Dr. Kenshon ordered the young man.

"Right...!" Taylor responded, taking his weapon and rushing out the front door.

Kuimon moved over towards the wall where a staff, much like Lucifer's, lay against the wall. He grabbed it tightly in his paws just like a human would have.

"I hate CEs... they are possessed..." Litira and Sparks whined as if they knew exactly what was meant to be said about these types of soldiers.

"What are CEs anyway, I've heard of them but I've never seen one..." I asked Litira.

"They are half human, half robot hybrids. They're minds have been completely erased and re-trained so that all they now know is how to hunt down enemies, and that is it"

"Are they really THAT dangerous...?"

"Well... if you want to see one up close, this is your lucky day" Kuimon said as he twirled his staff in his paws around in a propeller type fashion.

"Sir, incoming Dropship!" Taylor yelled over the intercom.

I stared at my rifle as everyone, except Dr. Kenshon, rushed outside, I wondered how it was I was supposed to use this contraption, but I had to wait for another battle to use this rifle for now was not the time for being oblivious.

I stormed outside with everyone else unaware of what lied on the crossroads of destiny from here on in.

Staring off at the horizon ahead with small sights of the sun approaching us, I saw the Dropship, one propeller on each side of it marked two, the metallic body structure pointed out like a skyscraper and the back tail resembled one of a normal C130 airplane.

The full moon glowed behind the Dropship, we waited with great fear, and only the propellers were heard in the distance.

The Dropship's guns began to go off in the distance for it must have spotted Taylor only because they were only firing at him. I saw him duck down, avoiding the incoming bullets with the small wall of his Sniper Tower as his only shield.

Finally the guns ceased, it must have been reloading time so Taylor took this opportunity to rise up and fire, but he was too startled, he fired but it hit the left propeller, doing no damage what-so-ever.

He missed his chance for now, the guns began to go off again, and once more Taylor ducked behind the small wall in his Sniper Tower.

We waited until the firing stopped, we all waited for it seemed as if the rest of us were completely useless in this situation, I could have been of some use but I did not know how to work this gun.

Taylor rose up again before the Dropship had a chance to choose an unloading zone, he pointed his rifle and yelled out, "Boom baby!" a loud pop was heard and the glass from the front of the Dropship shattered. Glass fell down to the dirt as it lost control, flipping around such as the helicopter that was taken down when my journey began, when I was with Yurrei and Belisivious.

"Shit, everyone get out of the way!!" Taylor yelled as the Dropship came flying towards the building at full speed. Sparks and Kuimon quickly moved out of the way while I took Litira in my arms and moved quickly with them.

"Doc, evacuate the building!"

Taylor's message was too late, the Dropship already came pummeling through the building, crushing and destroying everything in its path.

My heart skipped a beat when it dawned on me that Sydney was still in the building.

"Sydney!!!" I let out a scream of concern as I let Litira back down to the ground.

Kuimon and Sparks let out a groan while Litira squealed, covering her eyes from all the dust that flew towards us.

I began to sprint towards the destroyed building as fast as I could, even though I heard everyone else's pleas to return. But before I got to the building, Kuimon rushed in front of me his both of his arms stretched out before him, "Do not go inside, the building is sure to blow!"

I let out a growl and shoved Kuimon out of my way, kicked down the door, and rushed inside to the bedroom where we left Sydney.

The smoke from the fire that erupted from the engine of the Dropship filled my lungs as I searched for her, "Sydney!" I would yell, hoping for a response, but nothing, only the sound of burning wood was heard.

The front of my robe caught on fire, so I quickly ripped it off and threw it into the fire, the Anriu insignia melting along with it.

"Sydney, please answer me!!" I let out a long, overdone plea.

Finally finding the room where Sydney was, I noticed that the opening for the Dropships to let all of the soldiers out was right next to her, but she somehow was unharmed.

I let out a sigh of relief and rushed over to her, but before I had a chance to pick her up and take her out of there, a CE kicked through the wall on the other side of the bed, a plank flew and smacked me in the face. I tumbled to the floor and covered my injury with both of my paws and let out a yell of pain.

Sydney awoke from her slumber only to see the CE staring at her with a vicious, bloodthirsty look in his visible human eye. The right side of his body was normal and human-like while the left half was full in metallic equipment. It was hard to even imagine what this man had to go through to become this monster.

He picked her up with his metallic arm and strangled her, his left, half-human eye glowed a dark blue color as he threw her through the window behind her bed.

Her entire body flipped and twirled, sliding across the dirt and finally halting to a stop before she slid onto the road, I attempted to get up, but my legs were not responding. In pure instinct I began to crawl towards Sydney, trying with all of my might to beat the CE to her, but I failed.

He picked her up once again from where she lay on the dirt and squeezed her throat once again. Sydney was barely even conscious, she wasn't even conscious enough to let out a scream of pain. The CE let out a monotone laugh as he slowly suffocated her.

Suddenly, out of his metallic arm came a needle with the label "Anti-Pokemon 7" on it, I realized he was going to kill her the slow way, by injecting her with the poison known to kill Pokemon and only Pokemon, I never though I would see that poison again, it looked exactly how it did all those weeks ago back at Belisivious' room..

This soldier was not like the rest, the others would have just taken her to captivity, but this CE was only interested in murder, and I knew I was not going to get lucky here with that captivity thing.

Sydney finally screamed in pain when the CE shoved the needle through her neck, I yelled out in defeat knowing that I could not save her now.

Finally, but too late, Kuimon rushed towards the CE and rammed his staff right through the metallic monster's head, blood and sparks escaping as he pulled it out at once.

"Got ya!" I heard Kuimon yell as he grabbed Sydney and jumped towards me before the CE even had time to hit the ground. His paws generated a red force field exactly the same as the one Lucifer created.

Kuimon could not have cut it any more close, the building exploded at that very moment, the red shield became engulfed with fire and smoke all in an instant.

Dr. Kenshon and Taylor died in the explosion, and my little sister was lost as well. Sydney was dead and there was nothing I could do about it. I sat there, weeping over her dead body with Kuimon's struggling grunts heard in the background, he looked at me then at Sydney with sadness in his eyes as well, but if he couldn't hold out this shield we would all be dead.
