Well just do what I do then. I don't do magic or anything.
You have a good sense of forms so it should be easy for you.

Use the pencil tool at low opacity and 0px wide to sketch, clean up a bit then thicken the lines where needed with a 1px wide pencil.
You have to draw the lines a lot which makes everything look smooth.
That way everything looks smooth without you having to clean up a lot.
Then apply a simple solid coloration on a layer below. Done.
Just watch the animation.

If you have a tablet you should download jtablet to let the pressure sensitivity control the opacity.

I tried something similar to your instructions there when I altered my drawing style, but it's a pain in the butt for me using a mouse with a somewhat bumpy surface and no mouse pad. :cool:
